2. Globaly, Hyundai is know for its car business. But very few
people know that there are 42 companies in the Hyundai
group, For example Hyundai Elevator, Hyundai Information
Technology and Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Hyundai is the biggest shipbuilding in the world and
because of Hyundai, South Korea has raced ahead of Japan
to become the world’s biggest shipbuilding company.
For South Korea, Hyundai is not an ordinary company.
Hyundai is an institute that built County, create thousands
of jobs and won global recognition to South Korea.
And all this was started by a village boy. Who didn’t even have basic facilities like food,
education and healthcare. But, he had immense passion, vision and most importantly

3. Hyundai Motor Company is a South Korean multinational automotive manufacturer
headquartered in Seoul. It was founded in 1967 by Chung Ju-yung as a construction firm
and entered the automotive industry in 1968. Hyundai quickly gained traction in the
global market, known for its affordable yet reliable vehicles.

Chung ju-yung was born in 1915 in a small village in Korea. His family was so poor
that he couldn’t study much. As a child he had to work in the field with his family.
But after working so hard, the couldn’t afford proper clothes and food. Afterall, he
realizes the he would never be able to beat poverty by working in the field and
that’s why he tried to run away four times. But each time, his father found him.
Finally in 1934, at the age of 18, he attempted his fifth escape and reached
Seoul. Which is the capital of South Korea. He did construction, labor and the a
factory worker. He got a delivery boy. In just six months he became the store
manager. Because the store manager handed his store over him before his death.
Everything going well but when World War started and Japan ruled over Korea.
Japan overtook all the rice shop in Korea including Chung rice shop. All of his hard
work destroyed at once. But he didn’t give up.

With this thought he started looking for a business that the Japanese Govt. couldn’t
control. Soon he started car repairing company. But this time, he was so unfortunate
that the garage burnt down just after a month of opening and everything was burnt
to ashes.
But like always, Chung faced a problem head first. He took another loan of 3500
Won and built an even better garage. His garage was so successful that in the next 3
years till 1943. Business was growing rapidly but then another disaster struck. Japan
needed to make war related equipments for World War 2. So, Japan took his
garage’s ownership and merge it with a local steel plant.
8. HYUNDAI CIVIL WORK COMPANY 1950:
In 1946, with the end of World War 2, Japan’s rule in Korea also ended.
Chung came back to Seoul in 1946 and restarted his car repair business.
Business was old but this time the name was new HYUNDAI AUTO
SERVICES. Hyundai means MODERN. At the age of 31 in 1947, he
ctreated the HYUNDAI CIVIL WORKS company.
In June 1950, North Korea attacked South Korea. At that time US Army
was fighting North Korea along with South Korea. And they needed
tents, warehouse and army headquarters. Chung observed that America
had no shortage of money. They just reliable and timely delivery and
Chung gave it to them. He started with a small team. Due to his
reliability, he developed strong relationship with Americans.
Hyundai played a major role in all his and had exponential growth in the
business. South Korea’s biggest Dam, Soyoung Dam was made by
Hyundai.
9. MAKING CARS:
In his 50s, Chung built thousands of kilometers of roads and now it was time to built cars to run on those roads.
In 1967, he established the HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY. Chung set up several new plants and Hyundai produced
South Korea’s first ever mass produced car, Hyundai. After this Hyundai became the Kora’s biggest car
manufacturing company. Then he target the overseas market. In 1982, Hyundai launched Pony 2 with many
improvements. In the next few years, Hyundai sold 400,000 four lakh cars and become profitable. Then, targeting
to the US market, they offered their new Hyundai Excel at the price of a second-hand cars. In 1986, Hyundai sold
about 260,000 cars. In these years Hyundai XL became the top.
Today, Hyundai is the world third-biggest car company. In jus 2022,
they sold about 40,000,000 fourty lakh cars.
10. First Hyundai Car
Hyundai Motor Company was later established in
1967, and the company's first model, the Cortina,
was released in cooperation with Ford Motor
Company in 1968.
