Transition In Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of "Transition in Essay" poses a unique set of challenges that
require a keen understanding of both the overarching concept and the nuanced details that
contribute to its execution. The difficulty lies not only in elucidating the essence of transitions
within an essay but also in seamlessly integrating these transitions to ensure a coherent and fluid
narrative.
One must grapple with the intricacies of language and syntax to create a piece that not only
articulates ideas effectively but also ensures a smooth flow from one thought to the next. The
challenge intensifies when attempting to strike a balance between clarity and complexity, as
transitions should guide the reader without becoming overly explicit or intrusive.
Furthermore, delving into the subject of essay transitions demands a thorough comprehension of
various writing styles and genres. Different types of essays may necessitate diverse approaches
to transitions, making it imperative for the writer to adapt their techniques accordingly. This
adaptability adds an additional layer of complexity to the task, requiring a nuanced
understanding of the purpose and audience of the essay.
Navigating the intricate landscape of transitional phrases, sentence structures, and paragraph
organization is akin to maneuvering through a literary maze. Each transition must serve a
purpose, whether it be to connect ideas, highlight contrasts, or propel the narrative forward. The
writer must possess a discerning eye for identifying the optimal placement of transitions to
ensure a seamless and logical progression of thoughts.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of "Transition in Essay" demands more than just
proficiency in writing; it necessitates a profound grasp of the intricacies involved in creating a
cohesive and engaging narrative. The challenge lies not only in understanding the theoretical
aspects but also in applying this knowledge to the practical task of constructing a well-
transitioned essay.

Electric Fireplace Advantages And Disadvantages
10 BENEFITS OF AN ELECTRIC FIREPLACE
There are so many options when it comes to selecting the heating source for a
room. Lots of people love additional fireplaces: who doesn t love the warmth, the
crackling sound and lively flame inside the room on a cold, rainy day? Nowadays,
fireplace is still a popular option but more and more people prefer using electric
fireplace because they want to go green and care more about their health. If you are
not familiar with this practical appliance, the following guide will help you
understand the benefits and comfort they bring.
1.GETTING STARTED
An electric fireplace is a specific type of fireplace that requires no gas or wood
burning. Instead, it is powered by electricity and therefore requires no chimney or heat
venting. It provides real looking flame and crackling sounds.

2.WHAT ARE BENEFITS THAT AN ELECTIC FIREPLACE PROVIDES?
Electric fireplaces have many advantages over traditional fireplace.
It is very environmentally friendly: Unlike a traditional gas or wood burning
fireplace, an electric fireplace only requires electricity to run. No burning means
saying goodbye to harmful smoke or emission. As people are getting more and more
conscious of the environment, electric fireplaces have gained popularity over the
years.
It adds aesthetic value to your room: Electric fireplaces are not boring at all: they

you use this appliance for zone heating, you will be satisfied with the warmth it
The Woman Who Dared Of Vote
The Woman Who Dared to Vote
On November 5, 1872, in Rochester, New York in a barber shop a woman by the
name of Susan Brownell Anthony had the satisfaction of seeing her ballot for the
presidential election be added to the ballot box. Just this one action of a woman
caused a great uproar, multiple protests, an arrest, a trial that will be remembered for
years to come, and a fine of $100 one that will never be paid.
On February 15th, 1820 Susan B. Anthony was born to Daniel and Lucy Read
Anthony in Adams, Massachusetts. Anthony s father, Daniel Anthony was a
Quaker; however, Anthony s mother, Lucy was raised in a Baptist family, because
Daniel married a woman raised as a Baptist instead of a Quaker woman he did not
have a well off relationship with the traditionalist congregation. Even though Daniel
Anthony was pushed away by his congregation he still followed the Quaker beliefs
and this is why Susan Anthony was raised in a strict Quaker household for the
beginning of her life. Anthony s father believed that all of his children, the girls and
boys, could support themselves, and he taught them key principles and gave them
responsibilities to better prepare them for the future lives. This strict Quaker life was
what shaped Susan B. Anthony to be the woman that she was.
Growing up with Quaker beliefs Anthony and her family were against the ownership
of slaves, they believed that and worked to end slavery and help them to be free, this
was called the abolitionist movement. This
Lion King Psychology
When first looking over this assignment, my first thought was why is the The Lion
King on this list? Being one of my favorite Disney movies, I felt like I remembered
most of the movie pretty well and there were none of the concepts sticking out to
me. After tracking the movie down to watch again, I realized how wrong I was.
There are so many psychologyconcepts in this movie and it truly was a different
perspective to watch it while watching for these concepts also. While explaining the
concepts I found, I will try not to use Simba in each one! While researching Milgram
s Study, I tried to think about how this would fit into The Lion King. Milgram s Study
was conducted to gauge how far someone would go in harming another person while

I see all three happening in one particular scene. Simba is told specifically not to go
to a certain area of the land. When he goes against his father and is cornered by
hyena s, Mufasa rushes in to save the day. Simba has put himself, his friend Nala,
and Mufasa at risk and Mufasa is furious with him. He has his main man Zazu take
Nala home so he can have a conversation with Simba. He starts out very angry with
Simba and raises his voice, telling him how much danger he put himself and other in.
After that, he calmly explains that even the bravest lions get scared sometimes. Once
Simba understands the lesson he is trying to teach, they play in the grass and seem to
forget all about this. This using both positive and negative reinforcement. Negative
by yelling at him and telling him how disappointed he is, and positive by turning it
into something fun after Simba understands what he has
The Amazon. Com
Amazon.com is widely regarded as the first significantly successful enterprise to sell
traditional consumer goods over the Internet and the epitome of retail electronic
commerce. According to analyst Lauren Cooks Levitan, when you think of
Web shopping, you think of Amazon.com first.
Customers shop by visiting www.Amazon.com, a World Wide Web site where they
can search among more than 3 million book titles and purchase ones they like by
entering a shipping address, credit card number, and other information. After the first
purchase, the customer s shipping and credit card information are stored securely in
Amazon.com s information system. The next time, it only takes a single mouse click
to complete an order. Amazon.com makes it very easy to buy a book on line.
Making the customer s on line experience warm and pleasant is a key
Amazon.com strategy. The site retains information on each customer and even uses
an information technology called collaborative filtering to recommend books based
on the past purchases of buyers with similar histories. In addition to the
personalization afforded each shopper, the site allows readers to post their own
reviews of books, offers profiles of authors, and includes staff recommendations. The
result has been a perception among customers that they share a relationship with the
company one they value so highly that in February, 1999, when it was revealed
Amazon.com accepted payment from publishers to have books placed on
recommended lists,
The Organization For Leadership Development
Organization I choose the Centerpoint Organization for this assignment due to their
leadership development. Their Leadership Toolkit appeared interesting and I believe
that leadership is very important within the healthcare work force, organizations, and
just within life daily. Leadership is the process of getting things done through people,
the leader moves the team toward success. The Centerpoint Organization for leaders
discusses in their background statement, their resource for people who lead nonprofit
organizations and community initiatives (www.centerpointforleaders.org). The

One point to remember is to encourage positive behavior, attitudes, and actions.
Similarly, we must address negative behavior, attitudes, and actions promptly.
Otherwise, not only is it likely that the negative behavior will continue, but you also
risk discouraging other members of the team. Sincere encouragement and genuine
caring are traits of all truly good leaders. Main Goals Centerpoints organization s
main goals are to help create leaders and to help non profit organizations and services
with their unmet needs. Additionally, Centerpoint s Organization is trying to
accomplish future and current executives on nonprofits to mange to get board
members, business people, and community volunteers to learn leadership. The most
powerful thing a leader can do to mobilize others is to set the example by aligning
personal actions with shared values (Kouzes, Posner, 2004). Strengthening your
leadership ability can help you improve your capacity to achieve results and reach
personal or organizational outcomes. Leadership is intimately tied up with motivating
an influencing others.

The Is An Acronym Recreational Equipment Inc.
REI is an acronym Recreational Equipment Inc. This is an American retail and free
services corporation that aims at providing fun to the citizens of America at large. It
is one of the best service providers when it comes to hiking, camping, sporting and
other traveling equipment.
The U.S economy is growing rapidly and therefore it has affect any business
organization of a firm. The current economic state affects the retail services of REI in
the following ways. The U.S. Economy has truly possessed the capacity to mitigate
the effect of downturns in local retail buyer spending. This is because of substantial
exchange with outside countries. The consequence of this is retailers are
encountering noteworthy decreases in deals because of individuals taking care of on
their outgoings and furrowing into their properties or somewhere else, consequently
the economy withstands a lot of challenges while trying to maintain its position
(Mook, Quarter, Armstrong, Whitman, 2015). Therefore, customers in the US have
reduced the rate at which they purchase or search for REI services since they are a
bit expensive. It is obvious that the company will have to cope with some changes.

reputation of MINI brand for offering the premium quality products. There also have

the product portfolio has grown from the MINI One and MINI cooper to include the

Kotler, P. And Armstrong (2006) define price is the cost of product and service that
the customer can accept and can pay. Their decision making is based upon several
factors, including their budget, their desire for the product and their perception of the
brand, the quality of products and additional services on offer. A prime consideration
is that the vacation will leave them with memories to treasure .
Based on the case, MINI provides different kinds of price level from 7500 pound to
30000 pound based on the specific series of the car. Because of the internet,

The European Recovery Program Of The United States
Essay
Left as one of the only remaining major powers, not significantly devastated by
World War II, the United States of America lit the beacon of humanitarian aid. At
its own discretion, after the Soviet Union s refusal of America s extent of influence
and relief in the European continent, the U.S. was free to do as it pleased regarding
attempts of foreign assistance. Secretary of State in the U.S. at the time, George
Marshall, proposed the Marshall Plan , originally called the European Recovery
Program , in June of 1947, during his speech at Harvard University. Marshall s
argument was to provide 13 billion U.S. dollars, about 5% of the American gross
domestic product during that period, to European nations to bail them out of their
continental crisis post World War II. The plan was in operation for four years,
rebuilding war terrorized countries with several goals put in place by the United
States. America would take on the responsibility to rebuild their economies, rebuild
their currency, and foster a free and open trade between European and U.S.
economies. Aid provided by major powers usually involves some level of self interest,
benefiting the donors as well as the needs of those in less fortunate situations. The
Marshall Plan was set in motion with the idea that, if successful, the U.S. would
become better off in the long term, creating new markets for American goods and
flourishing the economy back home. Funds used within the European continent

The Role Of Temperance In Jacksonian America
Temperance, the moderation of consumption of alcohol, created conflict between
different sets of ideas and interests because the beginning of American history was
heavy with alcohol use. Alcohol was the meeting point of many. The Marine
Corps was started alone in a tavern. Creating this idea of being more moral because
one doesn t drink set people off. As written in our textbook, one person s sin is
another s pleasure or cherished custom (449). The emerging middle class felt they
had more control of themselves because they didn t drink. They brought religion in it
to also make some of the public feel they were sinners for participating in a part of
their culture. One large issue with temperance was the heavy Irish and German
immigrants.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were men against women, blacks against whites, slaves against non slave
owners, alcohol against sobriety. It was a confliction across America that spread
transcendentalism as well as feeding heavily into the upcoming civil war. With
these debates all evolving around each other, it was a conflicting time on which
way groups of people would come together as a union. It seemed our country was
split in too far of a way and it was going to either be slavery or no slavery to even
cross into our other issues. With the expansion of America going West, there needed
to be drawn lines on the way of our country for it to run
Hertzsprung Russell Diagram
The Hertzsprung Russell diagram was developed in 1911 by Danish astronomer
Ejnar Hertzsprung as a ways of representing the properties of stars. The method was
improved in 1913 by American astronomer Henry Norris Russell. Today the diagram
is known as a Hertzsprung Russell diagram, or simply an H R diagram. This diagram
is very significant tool for studying the evolution of stars.
A H R diagram plots a star s luminosity against its temperature or color. The vertical
axis is the stars luminosity relative to the sun (1 L0 is the luminosity of our sun) and
the horizontal axis plots the temperature or color of a star. The highest value of
temperature is shown on the left while the lowest is on the right. Each star is plotted
as a single point,
Gear accountability
Gear accountability is one of my most important things I must do as a United
States marine. Many things go into keeping track of your own military gear as
well as personal gear. Cif gear for example. All of the gear that is issued to me I
must make sure I have everything at all times, otherwise if I lose a piece of gear I
must fill out a missing gear statement, get it signed off by my section head, the
platoon sergeant, and my platoon officer. I always have to make sure that all my gear
is clean before any kind of field op. I have miss placed gear before in the past
because I didn t keep track of it. Every day a marineloses a piece of gear, whether it is
from a field op, moving barracks rooms, or when I am getting ready to go on annual...

If you lose a piece of gear while you are in the field then the entire field op will stop
doing what they are doing and you will all search for that missing piece of
serialized gear. Losing a piece of gear could also be a direct violation of article 108
of the UCMJ. Violation of article 108 could possibly be resulted by a court martial
and bad conduct discharge and confinement for a year. If you are not being
responsible about gear accountability then that could potentially find its way back
and make your higher ups look bad. Another reason that gear accountability is
important is because all of the gear that you are issued is re issued to another
marine after you turn it back in that is why it is also important that you do not lose
any of you gear no matter how big or small that piece of gear might be. If you lose
enough gear then when you get court martial then you are actually spending more of
the marine corps money and making them waste their time doing all of the paper
work because you did not want to be accountable for your gear. another reason why
the marine corps is so strict on accountability is that out of all of the branches of the
military the marine corps has the smallest amount of money and does not have to
money to go out and buy more gear that marines lost. Gear accountability is not just
important when you get to the fleet marine force but it is also important through
marine corps recruit training, marine combat training and also through your

John D. Rockefeller s Role In The Oil Industry
John D. Rockefeller, last but not least, came from a fairly poor family life just like
Carnegie did; his father was a vendor while his mother was the primary housekeeper
(Folsom, 1988, para. 3). After high school, Rockefeller studied such subjects as
finance and bookkeeping in college and soon put them to work as an assistant, and
eventually head, bookkeeper for a produce and commission business (The Linux
Information Project, 2006, John D. Rockefellersection, para. 1; The Rockefeller
Archive Center, 1997, para. 3). Once Rockefeller was in the oil industry, he
revolutionized it by presenting new uses for by products of the refining process
(Folsom, 1988, Discovering Crude Oil section, para. 9). The other main strategy

Causes Of The Great Awakening
On July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the The United States of America
proclaimed their independence from Great Britain and its king by virtue of the
Declaration of Independence. This was a result of many constituents expressed by
the colonies. One major revival that could be examined as a viable cause of this is
The Great Awakening. Government, social order, politics, and religion were all
factors in the colonies bout for independence. But how much of an impact did The
Great Awakening truly have on America in the independence and breaking away from
Great Britain to be its own country?
The Great Awakening, was a succession of religious revivals spanning from the 1720s
to the 1760s, that swept across the thirteen colonies, and with it its ideals and
doctrines. A theorized reason for the appeal of these revivalist principles was because
it cut across lines of class, race, gender, occupation, and education (Press). This would
further unite the colonies into a more common understanding of shared values, which
introduced the spread of mass communication in America as revivalists travelled the
colonies preaching to all. The thirteen colonies spread across a vast canvas of land,
and each with their own unique state, but the religious revivals of the eighteenth
century consolidated them with its reach of a lasting legacy that tolerated divergent
ideas, promoted religious pluralism, and the separation of the church and the state
(Press). These were all new concepts that were
Buffers Lab Report
In this lab, the pH of seven different substances and solutions were tested both
before and after the addition of multiple drops of acid (HCl), or base (NaOH).
Depending on the variation of the affected pH from the original, the buffer range of
the substance could be calculated by finding the average pH fluctuation, both with the
added acidand the added base. As shown in the graph above, the buffer is labelled in
dark blue, and the average pH fluctuation from the original was only 1.12. This low
pH variation characterizes a buffer, and therefore, the tested solutions and substances
with an average buffer range close to the buffer solution can also be considered
buffers as well. For example, both lemon juice (magenta) and baking soda (yellow)...

Human blood, in fact, contains large amounts of both carbonic acid, a weak acid,
and bicarbonate, a base. Together, they help maintain the blood s pH of roughly
7.4. If the pH were to fall below 6.8 or rise above 7.8, the organism affected can
become sick or die. The bicarbonate neutralizes excess acids in the blood while the
carbonic acid neutralizes excess bases. Similarly, when we consume antacids or milk
of magnesia after eating a meal with particularly rich foods, the stomach must
produce gastric acid to digest the food. This acid can enter the lower end of the
esophagus, causing an uncomfortable burning sensation. To relieve this burning, one
would take an antacid, which when dissolved, the bases buffer the excess acid by
binding to them. All throughout the biology and life processes, even down to
individual cells, chemical homeostasis must be maintained for optimal function.
Therefore, buffers are extremely useful and important to all aspects of life, as they
regulate the pH of solutions and aid in the consistency of organic
Parole Is Not A Sentence
Parole is the conditional early release of a prisoner back into the community under
the supervision of correctional authorities until the end of the full term of their
sentence. When a sentence is handed down to an offender, they are given a non
parole period which they must serve first before being eligible to be released or
apply to be released on parole. Parole is not a reduced sentence, it is a part of the
sentence where the offender can be conditionally released back into the community
under supervision (Evans, 2013). This essay will look at both the advantages and
disadvantages of offenders serving the remainder of their sentences while integrating
back into the community under supervision, and finally discuss the use of parole in
Australia and whether this approach to corrections is under or over utilised.
There are two types of parole; court ordered parole and board ordered parole. Court
ordered parole is applicable if the offender is sentenced to a period of imprisonment
of three years or less; at the time of sentencing the court will set a date when the
offender can be released on parole. Board ordered parole is applicable if the court
sets a date for the offender to be eligible to apply for parole; it is then up to the
parole board to make the decision whether the offender will be released on parole
(Queensland Government, 2012). Parole boards will consider each offender and case
individually, and assess factors such as the nature of the offence for which
The And The Target Market
Spain is the 8th largest consumer of cosmetic goods in the world, and collectively,
Spanish men and women spend around $7.4 billion annually on them. Looks play a
large role in Spanish culture, as youth and sensuality are highly sought after by men
and women alike. Although most focus is placed on perfumes, aromatics, and
skincare products, there is a large demand for conventional cosmetic products as well.
Lipstickhas existed for thousands of years and is considered a staple in any women
s repertoire. As such, there is always a demand for new lipsticks. The target market
is primarily women between the ages of 18 45; lipsticks are not limited to certain
age groups, and certain shades, like blue based reds are worn by women of all
ages. To a lesser extent, men are also a target market as acceptance has risen for
men who wear makeup, but the market is still primarily focused on women.
Lipsticks are not purchased very often, but because so many women purchase
lipsticks over the course of a year that isn t much of an issue. Climate and
geography do not present much of an issue as lipsticks are easy to transport from
one place to another due to their size, and do not change depending on the weather as
they are packaged. There is no confliction with traditions, habits, or beliefs in Spain,
as cosmeticshave existed since pre historical times as a luxury (and non luxury) good.
There is nothing in Spanish culture that limits a woman s ability to use cosmetics.

Cobalt Synthesis Lab Report
Results and Discussions By using the principle of LeChatlier, one can determine the
two Cobalt forms CoCl4 2 and Co(H2O)6 2+. In order to determine whether or not
the solution will shift left or right with respect to equilibrium, it is based on Cl .
However, when silver nitrate was added to bis(tetraethylammonium), it showed that
Cl was reduced in the given solution. This ultimately caused the synthesis of the
product turned it a pink color. When given a blue color, it was determined that
tetraethylammonium Chloride was involved with the stock solution, which
ultimately caused the Cl to form the reactants. Finally, based from the results, it is
shown that CoCl4 2 is blue, and Co(H20)6 2+ is pink. Since we now have
determined the two different colors of Cobalt, we can now find constant K. With the
help of the spectrophotometer, the absorbance of the stock solutions were measured
at 656nm and 519nm respectively. The concentration was determined with the help of
Beers Law and the extinction coefficient of each wavelength. Finally, the equilibrium
constant was .327x10^ 7. CoCl4 2 6H2OCo(H20)62+4Cl I0.0162.8 M0.000.00

Likewise, the solution was placed in an hot water bath in order for the temperature to
rise. Given the solution in the ice bath, it turned pink. Moreover, given the solution in
the warm bath, it turned blue. At the wavelengths of 656nm and 519nm, the solutions
absorbance s were recorded at 4degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius. Given the
results, one can conclude that the reaction was exothermic. This is true because the
reaction shifted to the left when heat was added which ultimately led to the
production of more CoCl4

Tips for Designing Kitchens
TIPS FOR DESIGNING KITCHEN KITCHEN The kitchen is the most lively and
important part of any household. It is the place where people spend their quality
time either in cooking or enjoying meals with their family. It is not an easy task to
design a kitchen. A lot of important points must be kept in mind before you decide
to design your kitchen. A kitchen becomes ideal when all the features of the
kitchen like storage, cooking area, dining area, floors are considered carefully
before designing it. If you want to save money by not renovating the kitchen again
and again, please take a pen and paper and write important things to include in
design of kitchen. Otherwise, you will regret after the kitchen is constructed and
you forget to include one or another feature in it. So, proper planning is necessary
to design a beautiful and useful kitchen. DESIGN VS USABILITY Anyone can
spend a huge amount of money and get a designer kitchen built by the help of an
interior designer. However, it is you who have to spend the time in the kitchen.
Therefore, you must decide on the features that you want in the kitchen design apart
from someone else doing it for you. It is your money and it should worth every
penny that you spend on designing the kitchen. Sometimes, a kitchen may look
beautiful but you may hate to work or cook in the kitchen due to the kitchen design
which is not user friendly. To avoid such a scenario, please take interest in designing
a kitchen as per your needs and

Growth Pressures
All companies have moments of growth and decline. As companies age, change in
the form of growth is brought about (Palmer, 2009, p.65). Companies look for the
increases in revenue and ways to create more revenue. When money is being made
growth happens, new jobs are created, expansions begin and technology is
heightened. Last week Time WarnerCable announced that there will be a new CEO,

about the growth pressures concerning Time Warner Cable. Mr. Marcus emphasized

Flexibility can be a reason for changes in the competitive environment in an

Point Of View In Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow...
A story s point of view helps the reader get the writer s perspective. As such, one
can determine the truth about a character thus affecting their response to the
character. It also influences the reader s response based on what the narrator knows
or their objective. In Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper the point of
view is in the first person. The narrator participates in the action of the story. In A
Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, the writer uses the third person point of view
and lets the reader know how the characterfeel. As such, one learns about the
characters through an outside voice. As such, the narrativeof any story is a crucial

The Yellow Wallpaper can also be tied to this theory since it spins an exciting tale
of how a wife of a doctor becomes guilt ridden with depressed after the birth of her
child. As a result, her physician husband decides to place her under homecare to
help cure her of her disease (3). However, this only serves to intensify her illness
and put a damper on her marriage. The first person point of view in this story helps
one to catch a vision of what a suffering woman must endure. The first narrative also
influences the reader to be able to connect to the narrator in a humane way.
Further, the first person standpoint in this story provides the reader access only to the
woman s thoughts thus limiting the reader. However, the limited point of view in this
story helps is crucial in letting the reader get into the shoes of the wife and experience
the feeling of isolation throughout the story. The limitation of the viewpoint also
involves narrating the story in the present, which prohibits the main character from
the benefit of hindsight
Rhetorical Analysis Why We Can T Wait
During the 1960 s, Black African Americans had to face multiple social conditions
and attitudes. Many were living in poverty or low income communities, with either
no education or very limited education. This certain community during this time
period was neglected, rejected, and disrespected by the American society. In Martin
Luther King s book Why We Can t Wait , he uses rhetorical strategies and devices
like parallelism, repetition, imagery, and rhetorical questions in order to seek social
change in the United States.
This passage can be divided into three distinct sections. The first section is where he
uses rhetorical strategies to get his point across. The second section is where he uses
a literary device to appeal to his audience s emotions. The final section is where he
uses multiple questions to strengthen the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This literary device is being used when he states, I see a young Negro boy. He is
sitting on a stoop... The stench of garbage is in the halls. The drunks... jobless...
junkies are shadow figures of his everyday world . The use of imagery throughout
his passage is to evoke emotions like empathy, from his audience. It allows his
audience to be able to establish a connection with the images he portrays, and for the
audience too also be able to understand how desperately social change is needed in
the United States. Another example of imagery would be where he states, black people
, brought to this land in slave ships and in chain, had drained the swamps, built the
homes... to lift this nation from colonial obscurity to commanding influence... . He
uses imagery to put the audience into the Black community s hoes, so that they are
able to comprehend that the way Americans are treating them is not right and needs
to be changed because they also made the nation great. He is further persuading his
audience for social
Music Is Music Essay
Everyone has that one thing that has always been a part of them and will continue
to be for the rest of their lives. As it probably is with many people, mine is music.
However, music affects everyone differently, and that effect makes me who I am
today. The simplest answer, for me, is that music makes me happy. Musicis always
there for me, whether in the form of playing or just listening to it, it is a huge part of
my life, and I could not imagine life without it. Throughout my life I have had many
people to thank for that, but the person who is initially responsible for my interest in
music is my mother. She listened to music frequently and got my brother into band at
Randolph Elementary School. After that everything changed.
My brother started band in fourth grade and also got involved with Sal Cruz s
Cruzline program. Since I was only in first grade, I could not be in band, but I was
always forced to go and watch my brother anyway. At first I did not want to be
there, and eventually I got bored enough to where I would sit in the back of the
room and mimic what Mitchell was doing on my lap. One day Sal noticed me doing
that:
He asked everyone, Whose little sister is that? Yours?
No she s mine. my brother answered.
He then replied, Well, come on up here, and we ll get you a box to stand on, and
then I want you to play what your brother has been playing I was beyond nervous
but I did it anyway, and Sal was so excited, he was hooting and hollering the rest of
practice. I guess he liked me because he let me start practicing with everyone and
even play in the performance. I did not have a problem with that part. The part I
did have a problem with was him singling me out to the entire audience. I was so
embarrassed that, while standing on the box, and with hair the length of about half
of my body, I dropped my head and let my hair fall around my face the entire time he
was telling the audience about me. Little did I know, this would be the first of many
performances.
This day was the beginning of an entirely different life. My brother and I now had
something in common and our relationship grew significantly better from then on.
My free time was spent practicing either drums or the piano, which I had also
Environmental Sustainability Can Start With One Person
Or...
Environmental sustainability can start with one person or a group of people. We can
become more environmentally sustainable by using less water or turning off the
power when we leave a room. How we do it isn t the difficult part, it s getting others
to follow in our footsteps and join us in the movement to become more
environmentally sustainable. A great place to start is a college campus. With
potentially thousands of students on board, we could make a difference in our
environment. The trick however is convincing students to turn off the light before
they leave a room or even not using as much water to when they brush their teeth. I
believe it is possible for Union University to become more environmentally
sustainable with a little hard work and dedication. While we already have several
great programs such as recyclingand the rehydration stations, we could always
benefit from more. One idea that may take only a minimal amount of effort would be
composting. I can think of countless times I did not eat everything on my plate and
just scraped it into the trash can, completely wasted where as all that food could
have been scraped into a compost bin and taken outside to an area where students are
free to compost and hundreds of pounds of food would be put to a much more
environmentally friendly use. Colleges across the nation are turning to composting to
not only reduce waste but to help reduce their environmental footprint. By educating
students what can and can not be
Child Pageants Analysis
Dazzling dresses, sparkling jewelry, and perfect makeup sounds like every girl s
dream, right? Sadly, these are just a few of the things that are used to lure children
into the clutches of the detrimental world of pageants. Child pageants may seem to
be fun and games, just look pretty to win a prize, but the damages it can do to a
young girlbrings new light to the subject. Parents are submitting their kids to be
judged by fully grown adults, based solely on their child s incredibly altered
appearances. These parades of artificial beauty can lead to both low self esteem, an
inflated self image and irregular growth in the developing children involved.
One of the first concerns about this topic are the things it is teaching children, and ...

If these little girls succeed in their pursuit of the pot of gold at the end of their
bedazzled rainbow, if not handled correctly, these girls can turn into selfish
narcissists. Most americans are familiar with the show, Toddlers and Tiaras that
portrays some insight into the world of child pageantry. Young girls and their
parents are filmed throughout their journey of preparing, participating, and either
partying, or pouting once the results are revealed. In Glitter and Glamour: Inside
children beauty pageants, Jackie Salzano addresses this particular show, and how it
portrays child pageants. She says that the children are seen being rude to their
parents, be extremely physically altered, and the parents doing whatever it takes for
their child to win. In this cutthroat world of stages and lights, both the child, and
their parents can turn into pageant zillas . Also, these competitions are teaching
girls that the extremely fake make overs that they undergo, is what they are

Vassalage And Senmenment In The Song Of Roland, Oliver
And...
The word, vassalage will have a different meaning to different people and their
personalities. This will cause people to argue about how to deal with situations and
what course of action is the best option.
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, vassalage is defined as a position of
subordination or submission to a political power. While a vassal is someone who is
under the protection of someone with authority such as a feudal lord. This person
(vassal) will feel obligated to vow their loyalty to that person in power. In The
Song of Roland , Oliver and Roland both have a different definition on what makes
a great vassal. This paper will discuss both viewpoints on what makes a marvelous
vassal , why the poet used Roland and Oliver to balance out vassals, and a brief
understanding of vassalage and fief holding.
First, a vassal and fief holding is more than just someone of lower status being
obedient to their ruler and using their land to pay them. According to Britannica,
some vassals were apart of their lord s court as household knights. Although,
vassals who did not live in their lord s court were required to have a fief in order to
sustain his land and have a solid holding of his service for his lord and/or king.
However, if the vassal did something to violate or break his allegiance to his lord
then it could result is a felony. This could explain why Roland refused several times
to use his horn to call Charlemagne. However, he mentioned several times that calling

Last Night By Sharon Olds Summary
In the poem Last Night by Sharon Olds, the essence of the poem was greatly
enhanced through the wistful delivery of the speaker and the present tone of lust and
desire. This was obtained through the successful pronunciation of words and the
various use of literary devices such as metaphors and similes, in addition to the
steamy atmospherethat the erotic tone of this poem brings. The profound languages
used helps the reader develop an idea of what the context is and the main idea that
revolves around the sentences or words. In the where it begins with Love? it shows
the uncertainty of an individual who s confused and possesses unanswered questions.
When the speaker emphasizes the question mark at the end of the word, it genuinely
separates the idea of a general question and one that is searching for answers. The
goal of the language used in the poem will not be achieved without the speaker
acting on it verbally. Words are empty without emotions and therefore the speaker
plays an important role that enforces meaning and structure onto what is being said.
Another important factor would be the speaker s attitude. How the speaker
approaches the poem gives away the main idea, the concept and even the identity of
the person behind these words. For example, if the speaker proceeds through the
poem with a very positive attitude, it sets a different atmosphere than the one that
would be if it was approached negatively. In this case, the speaker continues with the
poem
Analysis Of Emily Gilmore s The Matriarch Of The...
Case History Emily Gilmore, born in 1942, is the matriarch of the complex
Gilmore family. She attended Smith College and majored in history before
meeting her husband, Richard at a Yale party. A little while after she and Richard
got married, they had their only daughter, Lorelai Gilmore. Emily is a long
standing member of Connecticut high society. She is an active member of the
Hartford DAR chapter, hosts work events on a weekly basis for her husband, and
volunteers her time and money very often. Emily goes through maids like a
normal person changes clothes. She has had maids from all over the world, but
none of them last very long. Emily is too particular about the state of her house for
any maid to please her; this is why she pays the most of all her friends. She is very
controlling of her environment and always feels as if she is the most important
person in the room. Although she interacts with people every day, Emily Gilmore
doesn t have many people she is close to. Before his retirement, Richard was often
out of town with his insurance business. Now, they spend more time with each other.
Lorelai left home after having her daughter, Rory, at age sixteen to get away from her
controlling mother. Since Lorelai, and Rory have left, Emily s relationship with her
daughter has not been the healthiest. Emily saw her daughter and granddaughter only
Christmas and Easter. This changed when Rory was accepted into Chilton

Utah s Coal Mining Industry
he coal mining industry started when people in Utah wanted fuel. Lumber at that
time in Utah was used just for building, not for fuel. In 1854, the LDS church said
that they would pay for the first usable coal mine within forty miles of Salt Lake
City. The first coal mine was in Summit County. Its name was Coalville, and it was
about forty miles from Salt Lake City. The Mormons built a railroad to the
Coalville Coal Mine. They also found a mine that would give them fuel for
transportation named Castle Gate Mine. Soon the Denver and Rio Grande Western
Railroad was built from 1881 1883. It went to the Book Cliffs; that was discovered as
Utahs richest coal deposit. Coal mining had three big challenges The first problem
with mining was labor. Most people that worked in the coal mines were
immigrants that came because they believed that mining would make them rich.
The second problem was money. The workers often complained about how low
their wages were, and how high the store prices were in mining camps. The last
one was a safety concerns. It was very dangerous working in coal mines. You could
die from explosions, or gas leaks. Because of those three problems, the workers
protested and many strikes occurred. The first strike happened in 1883, at Winter

were in working the mine when four mineshafts unexpectedly exploded. That led into
the strike in 1901, again, about safety. Next, in 1903 and 1904, the miners attempt to
gain the protection of a national union, but that also failed. Then a local strike

improving education for both the upper, and the lower class. According to The

the amount of money flow coming into the Unites States, why are impoverished

Recrystallisation and Chemical Separations Essay
Introduction:
Recrystallization is used for the purification of solid compounds. The recrystallization
process relies on the fact that majority of compounds are more soluble in hot solvent
than in cold. The hot saturated solution containing the compound will have unwanted
impurities and will be filtered out and cooled to produce the pure crystal constituents
of the compound.
Thin layer chromatography can be used as a physical method to segregate compounds
from natural sources. E.g. Spinach leaves are visibly green, but consist of a variety of
components that have more colour than others. This experimental procedure uses
compounds from spinach leaves that are exposed to chromatography, TLC plate to

Clear silica gel turned visibly green once green food dye was added. The first band
within column (yellow) was collected after Nacl was added; methanol was added
to the column to start the second mobile phase which extracts the second band of
(blue) liquid from the remaining silica gel + green food dye solution. The column
chromatography produced two beakers of blue and yellow from the green food dye.
Wavelengths of maximum absorption were calculated: yellow = 428nm; blue =
629nm; food dye green = 629 426nm.
Discussion:
Part A:
The warm water was added to the dehydrated mixture of table salt, sand and the
copper sulphate. The solution changed to a visibly blue homogenous colour. The
sand and some of the copper crystals that did not dissolve remained at the bottom of
the beaker. A small amount of copper sulphate residue was left in the collection
funnel. The temperature of the solution was too high for the mixture to bind and
recrystallize; Ethanol was added to the mixture to lower solubility. The beaker was
then placed in a cooler for duration of 10mintues to decrease temperature and
increase the rate of recrystallization. When the beaker was removed from the cooler
it was still visibly blue indicating in was not a complete recovery. Recovered copper
sulphate pentahydrate crystals were solid, multi edged and uniform in assembly.

The Warfare During The World War II Essay
Hybrid Warfare
Since the very first war on record, each belligerent has attempted to find more
advanced ways to defeat the other. Usually wars have been fought traditionally: In
terms of conventional, classic war, definitions are almost identical around the
world: type of war where weapons of mass destruction are not used, only classical
combat means, the fight is fought only by regular armed forces (Frunzet), called
conventional warfare. As populations around the globe grew, another type of warfare
came about. This other warfare can be classified as, activities taken to enable a
resistance movement or insurgency to coerce, undermine or overthrow a government
or occupying power by operations conducted through or with illegal auxiliary or
guerrilla power, in a restricted area (Frunzet), this is known as unconventional warfare
. Most adversaries that the United States has faced can be classified as either a
conventional or unconventional force. Since moving into the information revolution,
there is another type of battle tactic that has come into existence: cyber warfare. This
involves attacking enemies via the Internet, targeting anything that requires Internet
access, such as power plants. Recently, U.S. forces and North Atlantic Treaty
Organization (NATO) allies have noticed a new type of warand given a name to this
different style of war: hybrid warfare. Hybrid warfare is not new; it has been around
for some time, but it was not until recently that it has been studied.

Investigating a Factor that Affects the Rate of Decent of a Parachute
Aim To investigate one factor that affects the rate of decent of a
parachute.
Plan
There are many factors that affect the rate of decent of a parachute, some of these
are: The weight of the object on the end of a parachute, the weight of the parachute,
the length of the strings on the end of the parachute, the surface area of the parachute,
and the shape of the parachute. As we were only instructed to investigate one of the
factors listed above we chose to find out how the surface area of a parachute affects it

We will use sellotape to attach the string to the corners of the parachutes, we must be
carefull to put the sellotape on flat so that the binliner doesn t ruckle and turn the
parachute into a funny shape so it affects the results. We measured both the parachutes
and the strings using a meter ruler.
Thirdly we will attach a lump of plasticine to the ends of the strings of each
parachute. The lump of plasticine must be put on at exactly the same point on the
strings on each parachute so that the out come isn t affected by the parachutes
being pulled down awkwardly or the strings being longer/shorter so that the
parachute touches down quicker/slower. The plasticine should also be exactly the
same mass (5grams) for each parachute because if there is more weight on some of
the parachutes those parachutes will be pulled down faster and if there is less
weight on some of the parachutes those parachutes will be pulled down slower. The
plasticine must also be stuck at the same point on each of the parachute s strings so
that the results aren t affected by the parachute being pulled down awkwardly or the
strings don t vary in length.
Once all of the parachutes are made we will drop each parachute from the ceiling,
which is 2.5m high, and time how long it

Last season, he averaged 10.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1. 6 assists per game.
Coach Van Gundy has said that Morris has been impressive this off season and
really showed that he can beat defenders off the dribble. He will be inserted into the
Pistons starting lineup in 2015 16, so there will be plenty of opportunities for him to
get us all fantasy points.
Morris does leave behind his twin brother Markieff Morris in Phoenix, though,
which has caused much controversy this off season. The Morris brothers are a
force to be reckoned with together, but how will they perform separated? This will
be Marcus real chance to shine for the first time in his NBA career. I think he will
be a buy low guy that could make an impact on your fantasy squads this season!
Fantasy Prediction for 2015 16

A Diverse Workforce
The problem iNOVA does not have a diverse workforce. Of the 103 employees, 78
of the employees are male. 89 of the 103 are white. (INOVA REPORT) There are a
number of reasons why this could have happened. In smaller companies like
iNOVA, many new employees are friends or associates of current employees who
have been recommended. (Miller) People often associate with those similar to
themselves, so those who they recommend will be like themselves, creating a
homogenous environment. Likewise, it has been proven that hiring managers
tend to hire people that they themselves get along with on a personal level rather
than their qualifications. (Miller) People who are different and may bring
diversity to a workplace are thus overlooked by managers in favor of those who the
hiring staff relate to because they share similar interests or backgrounds.
Oftentimes ethnicity also plays a role in human bias. A study from the National
Bureau of Economic Research shows that having a white sounding name can lead
to as many job offers as someone with an African American sounding name who
possesses an additional eight years of research. (Francis) Regardless of whether this
bias is conscious or not, it has a negative impact upon companies that lack diversity
(such as ourselves) as we are often missing out on much more qualified and talented
candidates due to human bias when hiring. Benefits of Diversity Besides improving
a company s social perception, there are many proven benefits to a
Third Punic War Research Paper
Unfriendly Relations
After the Second Punic War there was no reason for Rome to wage war against
Carthage, but there was still a little resent and Rome always held a grudge against
them. They would not let them pay their fine all at once, and anytime Carthage sent
Roman army loads of rice as gifts, they would be fully paid by the roman senators.
Fanning the Flames The Third Punic War was the result of a few Roman Senators
attempting to convince other members of the Roman government that Carthage was
still a threat to the Roman empire. The unofficial leader of the movement was Cato
the Elder. At the end of every speech he said Carthage must be destroyed . He told
other senators that Carthage was gaining power and wealth, and this made them ...

It wasn t until Carthage broke the treaty by waging war against Numidia that Rome
waged war. Pushing The Limit
In 149 BC, Rome finally declared war on Carthage after the treaty was broken.
Rome sent soldiers by the tens of thousands. This included an army of 80,000 infantry
and 4,000 cavalry. When the Romans arrived with their army to Carthage the
Carthaginians panicked and followed any order the Romans gave in an attempt to
prevent war.
But the Romans wanted to push them into war. They made them hand over 200,000
sets of armor, give up their weapons, and other such commands.
Even with these orders the Carthaginians still complied. It was clear to the Romans,
they had to find a way to push the people of Carthage to the limit.
So finally, Rome ordered them to leave the city of Carthage and settle somewhere at
least 10 miles from the ocean. This is when to Carthaginian snapped and realized
they had no choice but to fight.
Bloodshed So the war had begun, on both side there is a bit of advantage. The
Romans have the advantage of being on the offense giving them a foot hole in
Carthage. The Carthaginians also had an advantage. When the Carthaginians realized
it was time for war they began preparing for siege. The got an advantage because the
Roman army contracted disease during this time so Carthage had enough time to
Beach Lifeguard
Calm and Cool, the endless aqua colored water stretched as far as the eye can see.
Swooping down from the sky, seagulls snatched up food that was left on the sandy
shores. Colorful umbrellas popped open all along the beach. Perched in my
lifeguard chair, I watch the people swimming through the rolling waves. Today was
like any other day at the beach. To get everyone s attention, the lifeguard to my right
blew his whistle. Immediately, all the people swimming turned to see what was
happening. Agitated by the lifeguard blowing the whistle, a group of teenage boys
started to swim out of the swimming zone. The people that come to the beach are
extremely diverse. A women, who looks about 20 stands just out of reach of the

Hydraulic Turbine Systems With Elastic Water Column
Under...
In this paper, a new probability shaping control method is investigated for hydraulic
turbine systems with elastic water column under stochastic excitations. First, a
dissipated Hamiltonian model is presented for the hydraulic turbine system by
utilizing the method of orthogonal decomposition and feedback theory. Furthermore,
in order to obtain a pre specified stationary probability density function (SPDF) of
turbine system output, a probability shaping control method is designed based on the
technique for obtaining the exact stationary solutions of the dissipated non integrable
Hamiltonian systems. In addition, the Lyapunov function method is employed to
prove the transient PDF of the controlled system do converge to the pre specified
SPDF. Finally, system simulation shows effective control results under the proposed
control strategy. Hydraulic turbine is a widely used governing system in
hydroelectric plants. It can constantly adjust the active power output of hydroelectric
generating set to guarantee the safe operation of power generation according to
different system requirements. The control for hydraulic turbine plays a key role to
retain the stability of the electric power system. Other than the early research on the
linear model of hydraulic turbine, the nonlinear model based studies are exploited
actively in decades. Most nonlinear models rely on modern control theories, the main
idea of which is that the nonlinear nominal model without disturbance of power
Global Staffing Process Paper
The steps used in the process of establishing guiding principles and rules for staffing
purposes within global organizations are extensive and time consuming. They are
necessary, however, in order to ensure strategies, practices, and tools are implemented
properly throughout all areas of a global organization. Global organizations are not
independent businesses located in different countries, rather they use resources from
one part the organization to create competitive advantages in other areas (Ryan,
Wiechmann, Hemingway, 2003). One of the first steps in the process in designing
global assessments is determining the objectives (Scott Reynolds, 2010). This will
involve gathering information about what an organization seeks to achieve with...

For example, global projects require even greater attention to the composition of
project teams than a domestic assessment, but if an organization did not put in
enough effort at this stage it may not be as effective in later stages of the endeavor.
As mentioned above, global project teams can take longer to build (Ryan et al.,
2003), and organizations may want to skip this longer build time. Helping an
organization understand that this stage is one of the foundations of the overall
process may help, especially considering that this may reduce possible resistance to
the selection system during implementation (Scott Reynolds, 2010). Organizations
may try to skip determining the comparability of various job related functions, since
this step can be daunting and time consuming (Scott Reynolds, 2010). However, a
clear understanding of each job is necessary and would be best demonstrated rather
than simply assumed; some KSAOs may overlap, but others may be unique to a job
in a specific locale, and treating them all the same could create foundational issues.
Another step organizations may try to skip could be an analysis of job markets. The
complexity involved with creating and implementing effective systems may seem
daunting to an organization (Ryan et al., 2003). There are many reasons to do this
though, such as finding top
Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse
SlaughterHouse Analyisi Written by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. His book took close to
twenty three years to finish, due to a internal strife. His book was still in writing
during the times he went back to Europe to visit the old battlegrounds he had once
fought in. Vonnegut served the during World War 2 and was a American P.O.W.,
to the town of Dresden, where he and other captured American prisoners were
forced to do work. During the years he was captured he lived in an underground
made facility. During his stay, Allied Forces fire bombed Dresden, close to 100,000
people were killed. The times he was trapped in Dresden, and the friendly fire attack
and the obliteration of close to hundred thousand people left emotion scars. The visits
back to Europe,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His writing shows characters with no faces, and have readers understand the
tribulations of what the war was like through the main character Billy Pilgrim by
showing his ways of escape. There is a blurring line at times between the character
Billy Pilgrim and Kurt Vonnget, as both were present in the book, but Vonneget as
the narrator of the story. Though the theme is different many times, the one thing
that sticks out is the idea that war is bad. Death of 135,000 people in Dresden and
being a P.O.W. can take a toll on soldiers in

The Woman Who Dared Of Vote The Woman Who Dared to Vote On November 5, 1872, in Rochester, New York in a barber shop a woman by the name of Susan Brownell Anthony had the satisfaction of seeing her ballot for the presidential election be added to the ballot box. Just this one action of a woman caused a great uproar, multiple protests, an arrest, a trial that will be remembered for years to come, and a fine of $100 one that will never be paid. On February 15th, 1820 Susan B. Anthony was born to Daniel and Lucy Read Anthony in Adams, Massachusetts. Anthony s father, Daniel Anthony was a Quaker; however, Anthony s mother, Lucy was raised in a Baptist family, because Daniel married a woman raised as a Baptist instead of a Quaker woman he did not have a well off relationship with the traditionalist congregation. Even though Daniel Anthony was pushed away by his congregation he still followed the Quaker beliefs and this is why Susan Anthony was raised in a strict Quaker household for the beginning of her life. Anthony s father believed that all of his children, the girls and boys, could support themselves, and he taught them key principles and gave them responsibilities to better prepare them for the future lives. This strict Quaker life was what shaped Susan B. Anthony to be the woman that she was. Growing up with Quaker beliefs Anthony and her family were against the ownership of slaves, they believed that and worked to end slavery and help them to be free, this was called the abolitionist movement. Com Amazon.com is widely regarded as the first significantly successful enterprise to sell traditional consumer goods over the Internet and the epitome of retail electronic commerce. According to analyst Lauren Cooks Levitan, when you think of Web shopping, you think of Amazon.com first. Customers shop by visiting www.Amazon.com, a World Wide Web site where they can search among more than 3 million book titles and purchase ones they like by entering a shipping address, credit card number, and other information. After the first purchase, the customer s shipping and credit card information are stored securely in Amazon.com s information system. The next time, it only takes a single mouse click to complete an order. Amazon.com makes it very easy to buy a book on line. Making the customer s on line experience warm and pleasant is a key Amazon.com strategy. The site retains information on each customer and even uses an information technology called collaborative filtering to recommend books based on the past purchases of buyers with similar histories. In addition to the personalization afforded each shopper, the site allows readers to post their own reviews of books, offers profiles of authors, and includes staff recommendations. The result has been a perception among customers that they share a relationship with the company one they value so highly that in February, 1999, when it was revealed Amazon.com accepted payment from publishers to have books placed on recommended lists,

  • 9. The European Recovery Program Of The United States Essay Left as one of the only remaining major powers, not significantly devastated by World War II, the United States of America lit the beacon of humanitarian aid. At its own discretion, after the Soviet Union s refusal of America s extent of influence and relief in the European continent, the U.S. was free to do as it pleased regarding attempts of foreign assistance. Secretary of State in the U.S. at the time, George Marshall, proposed the Marshall Plan , originally called the European Recovery Program , in June of 1947, during his speech at Harvard University. Marshall s argument was to provide 13 billion U.S. dollars, about 5% of the American gross domestic product during that period, to European nations to bail them out of their continental crisis post World War II. The plan was in operation for four years, rebuilding war terrorized countries with several goals put in place by the United States. America would take on the responsibility to rebuild their economies, rebuild their currency, and foster a free and open trade between European and U.S. economies. Aid provided by major powers usually involves some level of self interest, benefiting the donors as well as the needs of those in less fortunate situations. The Marshall Plan was set in motion with the idea that, if successful, the U.S. would become better off in the long term, creating new markets for American goods and flourishing the economy back home. Funds used within the European continent required agreement and

As written in our textbook, one person s sin is another s pleasure or cherished custom (449). The emerging middle class felt they had more control of themselves because they didn t drink. The method was improved in 1913 by American astronomer Henry Norris Russell. Today the diagram is known as a Hertzsprung Russell diagram, or simply an H R diagram. This diagram is very significant tool for studying the evolution of stars. A H R diagram plots a star s luminosity against its temperature or color. The vertical axis is the stars luminosity relative to the sun (1 L0 is the luminosity of our sun) and the horizontal axis plots the temperature or color of a star. The highest value of temperature is shown on the left while the lowest is on the right. Each star is plotted as a single point,
  • 12. Gear accountability Gear accountability is one of my most important things I must do as a United States marine. Many things go into keeping track of your own military gear as well as personal gear. Cif gear for example. All of the gear that is issued to me I must make sure I have everything at all times, otherwise if I lose a piece of gear I must fill out a missing gear statement, get it signed off by my section head, the platoon sergeant, and my platoon officer. I always have to make sure that all my gear is clean before any kind of field op. I have miss placed gear before in the past because I didn t keep track of it. If you lose a piece of gear while you are in the field then the entire field op will stop doing what they are doing and you will all search for that missing piece of serialized gear. Losing a piece of gear could also be a direct violation of article 108 of the UCMJ. Violation of article 108 could possibly be resulted by a court martial and bad conduct discharge and confinement for a year. If you are not being responsible about gear accountability then that could potentially find its way back and make your higher ups look bad. Another reason that gear accountability is important is because all of the gear that you are issued is re issued to another marine after you turn it back in that is why it is also important that you do not lose any of you gear no matter how big or small that piece of gear might be. If you lose enough gear then when you get court martial then you are actually spending more of the marine corps money and making them waste their time doing all of the paper work because you did not want to be accountable for your gear. another reason why the marine corps is so strict on accountability is that out of all of the branches of the military the marine corps has the smallest amount of money and does not have to money to go out and buy more gear that marines lost. Gear accountability is not just important when you get to the fleet marine force but it is also important through marine corps recruit training, marine combat training and also through your

  • 15. Causes Of The Great Awakening On July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the The United States of America proclaimed their independence from Great Britain and its king by virtue of the Declaration of Independence. This was a result of many constituents expressed by the colonies. One major revival that could be examined as a viable cause of this is The Great Awakening. Government, social order, politics, and religion were all factors in the colonies bout for independence. But how much of an impact did The Great Awakening truly have on America in the independence and breaking away from Great Britain to be its own country? The Great Awakening, was a succession of religious revivals spanning from the 1720s to the 1760s, that swept across the thirteen colonies, and with it its ideals and doctrines. A theorized reason for the appeal of these revivalist principles was because it cut across lines of class, race, gender, occupation, and education (Press). This would further unite the colonies into a more common understanding of shared values, which introduced the spread of mass communication in America as revivalists travelled the colonies preaching to all. The thirteen colonies spread across a vast canvas of land, and each with their own unique state, but the religious revivals of the eighteenth century consolidated them with its reach of a lasting legacy that tolerated divergent ideas, promoted religious pluralism, and the separation of the church and the state (Press). These were all new concepts that were

Depending on the variation of the affected pH from the original, the buffer range of the substance could be calculated by finding the average pH fluctuation, both with the added acidand the added base. As shown in the graph above, the buffer is labelled in dark blue, and the average pH fluctuation from the original was only 1.12. This low pH variation characterizes a buffer, and therefore, the tested solutions and substances with an average buffer range close to the buffer solution can also be considered buffers as well. Human blood, in fact, contains large amounts of both carbonic acid, a weak acid, and bicarbonate, a base. Together, they help maintain the blood s pH of roughly 7.4. If the pH were to fall below 6.8 or rise above 7.8, the organism affected can become sick or die. The bicarbonate neutralizes excess acids in the blood while the carbonic acid neutralizes excess bases. Similarly, when we consume antacids or milk of magnesia after eating a meal with particularly rich foods, the stomach must produce gastric acid to digest the food. This acid can enter the lower end of the esophagus, causing an uncomfortable burning sensation. To relieve this burning, one would take an antacid, which when dissolved, the bases buffer the excess acid by binding to them. All throughout the biology and life processes, even down to individual cells, chemical homeostasis must be maintained for optimal function. Therefore, buffers are extremely useful and important to all aspects of life, as they regulate the pH of solutions and aid in the consistency of organic

When a sentence is handed down to an offender, they are given a non parole period which they must serve first before being eligible to be released or apply to be released on parole. Parole is not a reduced sentence, it is a part of the sentence where the offender can be conditionally released back into the community under supervision (Evans, 2013). This essay will look at both the advantages and disadvantages of offenders serving the remainder of their sentences while integrating back into the community under supervision, and finally discuss the use of parole in Australia and whether this approach to corrections is under or over utilised. There are two types of parole; court ordered parole and board ordered parole. Court ordered parole is applicable if the offender is sentenced to a period of imprisonment of three years or less; at the time of sentencing the court will set a date when the offender can be released on parole. Board ordered parole is applicable if the court sets a date for the offender to be eligible to apply for parole; it is then up to the parole board to make the decision whether the offender will be released on parole (Queensland Government, 2012). Parole boards will consider each offender and case individually, and assess factors such as the nature of the offence for which

Looks play a large role in Spanish culture, as youth and sensuality are highly sought after by men and women alike. Although most focus is placed on perfumes, aromatics, and skincare products, there is a large demand for conventional cosmetic products as well. Lipstickhas existed for thousands of years and is considered a staple in any women s repertoire. As such, there is always a demand for new lipsticks. The target market is primarily women between the ages of 18 45; lipsticks are not limited to certain age groups, and certain shades, like blue based reds are worn by women of all ages. To a lesser extent, men are also a target market as acceptance has risen for men who wear makeup, but the market is still primarily focused on women. Lipsticks are not purchased very often, but because so many women purchase lipsticks over the course of a year that isn t much of an issue. Climate and geography do not present much of an issue as lipsticks are easy to transport from one place to another due to their size, and do not change depending on the weather as they are packaged. In order to determine whether or not the solution will shift left or right with respect to equilibrium, it is based on Cl . However, when silver nitrate was added to bis(tetraethylammonium), it showed that Cl was reduced in the given solution. This ultimately caused the synthesis of the product turned it a pink color. When given a blue color, it was determined that tetraethylammonium Chloride was involved with the stock solution, which ultimately caused the Cl to form the reactants. Finally, based from the results, it is shown that CoCl4 2 is blue, and Co(H20)6 2+ is pink. Since we now have determined the two different colors of Cobalt, we can now find constant K. However, music affects everyone differently, and that effect makes me who I am today. The simplest answer, for me, is that music makes me happy. Musicis always there for me, whether in the form of playing or just listening to it, it is a huge part of my life, and I could not imagine life without it. Throughout my life I have had many people to thank for that, but the person who is initially responsible for my interest in music is my mother. She listened to music frequently and got my brother into band at Randolph Elementary School. After that everything changed. My brother started band in fourth grade and also got involved with Sal Cruz s Cruzline program. Since I was only in first grade, I could not be in band, but I was always forced to go and watch my brother anyway. At first I did not want to be there, and eventually I got bored enough to where I would sit in the back of the room and mimic what Mitchell was doing on my lap. One day Sal noticed me doing that: He asked everyone, Whose little sister is that? Yours? No she s mine. my brother answered. He then replied, Well, come on up here, and we ll get you a box to stand on, and then I want you to play what your brother has been playing I was beyond nervous but I did it anyway, and Sal was so excited, he was hooting and hollering the rest of practice. I guess he liked me because he let me start practicing with everyone and even play in the performance. I did not have a problem with that part. The part I did have a problem with was him singling me out to the entire audience. I was so embarrassed that, while standing on the box, and with hair the length of about half of my body, I dropped my head and let my hair fall around my face the entire time he was telling the audience about me. Little did I know, this would be the first of many performances. This day was the beginning of an entirely different life. My brother and I now had something in common and our relationship grew significantly better from then on. My free time was spent practicing either drums or the piano, which I had also

A great place to start is a college campus. With potentially thousands of students on board, we could make a difference in our environment. The trick however is convincing students to turn off the light before they leave a room or even not using as much water to when they brush their teeth. I believe it is possible for Union University to become more environmentally sustainable with a little hard work and dedication. While we already have several great programs such as recyclingand the rehydration stations, we could always benefit from more. One idea that may take only a minimal amount of effort would be composting. I can think of countless times I did not eat everything on my plate and just scraped it into the trash can, completely wasted where as all that food could have been scraped into a compost bin and taken outside to an area where students are free to compost and hundreds of pounds of food would be put to a much more environmentally friendly use. Colleges across the nation are turning to composting to not only reduce waste but to help reduce their environmental footprint. By educating students what can and can not be

While a vassal is someone who is under the protection of someone with authority such as a feudal lord. This person (vassal) will feel obligated to vow their loyalty to that person in power. • 30. Last Night By Sharon Olds Summary In the poem Last Night by Sharon Olds, the essence of the poem was greatly enhanced through the wistful delivery of the speaker and the present tone of lust and desire. This was obtained through the successful pronunciation of words and the various use of literary devices such as metaphors and similes, in addition to the steamy atmospherethat the erotic tone of this poem brings. The profound languages used helps the reader develop an idea of what the context is and the main idea that revolves around the sentences or words. In the where it begins with Love? it shows the uncertainty of an individual who s confused and possesses unanswered questions. When the speaker emphasizes the question mark at the end of the word, it genuinely separates the idea of a general question and one that is searching for answers. The goal of the language used in the poem will not be achieved without the speaker acting on it verbally. Words are empty without emotions and therefore the speaker plays an important role that enforces meaning and structure onto what is being said. Another important factor would be the speaker s attitude. How the speaker approaches the poem gives away the main idea, the concept and even the identity of the person behind these words. For example, if the speaker proceeds through the poem with a very positive attitude, it sets a different atmosphere than the one that would be if it was approached negatively. In this case, the speaker continues with the poem

At present the most important decisions of the Scottish courts are published in the series known as Session Cases Examples are: a) Donaghue v. Stevenson, 1932 S.C. (H.L.) 31; b) H.M. Advocate v. Kirkwood, 1939 J.C. 36; c) Smith v. Oliver, 1911 S.C. 103. 3) Lawyers in the 17th and 18th centuries (called institutional writers ) wrote books setting out the principles on which Scots law is based. Many of these principles were based on Roman law. Lawyers in Scotland today still look at what the institutional writers said about the law and apply these principles to modern day situations. Their authority is always less than that of legislation and case law, and so the court must always apply the legislation or the binding precedent in the event of a conflict. The most notable institutional writings are: a) Sir Thomas Craig b) Sir George Mackenzie c) Viscount Stair d) Lord Bankton e)
  • 42. Detroit Pistons Argumentative Essay The Detroit Pistons franchise has an illustrious history, but over recent years there have been times of utter disappointment. The 2015 16 Pistons team is a young, talented group of guys who can put up solid fantasy stats for us. Center Andre Drummond leads this Detroit team into this season as the top fantasy option on the team. From Drummond to Reggie Jackson, the Pistons should be a team to look at during your upcoming fantasy basketballdrafts. So, here we go with my 2015 16 Detroit Pistons fantasy team preview: Reggie Jackson, PG For the first few years of Jackson s career, he served as the backup point guard to Russell Westbrook. When Westbrook was injured, though, Jackson stepped into the starting five and really showed what he had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Last season, he averaged 10.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1. 6 assists per game. Coach Van Gundy has said that Morris has been impressive this off season and really showed that he can beat defenders off the dribble. He will be inserted into the Pistons starting lineup in 2015 16, so there will be plenty of opportunities for him to get us all fantasy points. Morris does leave behind his twin brother Markieff Morris in Phoenix, though, which has caused much controversy this off season. The Morris brothers are a force to be reckoned with together, but how will they perform separated? This will be Marcus real chance to shine for the first time in his NBA career. I think he will be a buy low guy that could make an impact on your fantasy squads this season! Fantasy Prediction for 2015 16 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per
  • 43. A Diverse Workforce The problem iNOVA does not have a diverse workforce. Of the 103 employees, 78 of the employees are male. 89 of the 103 are white. (INOVA REPORT) There are a number of reasons why this could have happened. In smaller companies like iNOVA, many new employees are friends or associates of current employees who have been recommended. (Miller) People often associate with those similar to themselves, so those who they recommend will be like themselves, creating a homogenous environment. Likewise, it has been proven that hiring managers tend to hire people that they themselves get along with on a personal level rather than their qualifications. (Miller) People who are different and may bring diversity to a workplace are thus overlooked by managers in favor of those who the hiring staff relate to because they share similar interests or backgrounds. Oftentimes ethnicity also plays a role in human bias. A study from the National Bureau of Economic Research shows that having a white sounding name can lead to as many job offers as someone with an African American sounding name who possesses an additional eight years of research. (Francis) Regardless of whether this bias is conscious or not, it has a negative impact upon companies that lack diversity (such as ourselves) as we are often missing out on much more qualified and talented candidates due to human bias when hiring. Benefits of Diversity Besides improving a company s social perception, there are many proven benefits to a
  • 44. Third Punic War Research Paper Unfriendly Relations After the Second Punic War there was no reason for Rome to wage war against Carthage, but there was still a little resent and Rome always held a grudge against them. They would not let them pay their fine all at once, and anytime Carthage sent Roman army loads of rice as gifts, they would be fully paid by the roman senators. Fanning the Flames The Third Punic War was the result of a few Roman Senators attempting to convince other members of the Roman government that Carthage was still a threat to the Roman empire. The unofficial leader of the movement was Cato the Elder. At the end of every speech he said Carthage must be destroyed . He told other senators that Carthage was gaining power and wealth, and this made them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It wasn t until Carthage broke the treaty by waging war against Numidia that Rome waged war. Pushing The Limit In 149 BC, Rome finally declared war on Carthage after the treaty was broken. Rome sent soldiers by the tens of thousands. This included an army of 80,000 infantry and 4,000 cavalry. When the Romans arrived with their army to Carthage the Carthaginians panicked and followed any order the Romans gave in an attempt to prevent war. But the Romans wanted to push them into war. They made them hand over 200,000 sets of armor, give up their weapons, and other such commands. Even with these orders the Carthaginians still complied. It was clear to the Romans, they had to find a way to push the people of Carthage to the limit. So finally, Rome ordered them to leave the city of Carthage and settle somewhere at least 10 miles from the ocean. This is when to Carthaginian snapped and realized they had no choice but to fight. Bloodshed So the war had begun, on both side there is a bit of advantage. The Romans have the advantage of being on the offense giving them a foot hole in Carthage. The Carthaginians also had an advantage. When the Carthaginians realized it was time for war they began preparing for siege. The got an advantage because the Roman army contracted disease during this time so Carthage had enough time to

Colorful umbrellas popped open all along the beach. Perched in my lifeguard chair, I watch the people swimming through the rolling waves. Today was like any other day at the beach. To get everyone s attention, the lifeguard to my right blew his whistle. Immediately, all the people swimming turned to see what was happening. Agitated by the lifeguard blowing the whistle, a group of teenage boys started to swim out of the swimming zone. The people that come to the beach are extremely diverse. A women, who looks about 20 stands just out of reach of the waves that lap against

In this paper, a new probability shaping control method is investigated for hydraulic turbine systems with elastic water column under stochastic excitations. First, a dissipated Hamiltonian model is presented for the hydraulic turbine system by utilizing the method of orthogonal decomposition and feedback theory. Furthermore, in order to obtain a pre specified stationary probability density function (SPDF) of turbine system output, a probability shaping control method is designed based on the technique for obtaining the exact stationary solutions of the dissipated non integrable Hamiltonian systems. In addition, the Lyapunov function method is employed to prove the transient PDF of the controlled system do converge to the pre specified SPDF. Finally, system simulation shows effective control results under the proposed control strategy. Hydraulic turbine is a widely used governing system in hydroelectric plants. It can constantly adjust the active power output of hydroelectric generating set to guarantee the safe operation of power generation according to different system requirements. The control for hydraulic turbine plays a key role to retain the stability of the electric power system. Other than the early research on the linear model of hydraulic turbine, the nonlinear model based studies are exploited actively in decades. Most nonlinear models rely on modern control theories, the main idea of which is that the nonlinear nominal model without disturbance of power
  • 47. Global Staffing Process Paper The steps used in the process of establishing guiding principles and rules for staffing purposes within global organizations are extensive and time consuming. They are necessary, however, in order to ensure strategies, practices, and tools are implemented properly throughout all areas of a global organization. Global organizations are not independent businesses located in different countries, rather they use resources from one part the organization to create competitive advantages in other areas (Ryan, Wiechmann, Hemingway, 2003). One of the first steps in the process in designing global assessments is determining the objectives (Scott Reynolds, 2010). This will involve gathering information about what an organization seeks to achieve with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, global projects require even greater attention to the composition of project teams than a domestic assessment, but if an organization did not put in enough effort at this stage it may not be as effective in later stages of the endeavor. As mentioned above, global project teams can take longer to build (Ryan et al., 2003), and organizations may want to skip this longer build time. Helping an organization understand that this stage is one of the foundations of the overall process may help, especially considering that this may reduce possible resistance to the selection system during implementation (Scott Reynolds, 2010). Organizations may try to skip determining the comparability of various job related functions, since this step can be daunting and time consuming (Scott Reynolds, 2010). However, a clear understanding of each job is necessary and would be best demonstrated rather than simply assumed; some KSAOs may overlap, but others may be unique to a job in a specific locale, and treating them all the same could create foundational issues. Another step organizations may try to skip could be an analysis of job markets. The complexity involved with creating and implementing effective systems may seem daunting to an organization (Ryan et al., 2003). There are many reasons to do this though, such as finding top

Vonnegut served the during World War 2 and was a American P.O.W., to the town of Dresden, where he and other captured American prisoners were forced to do work. During the years he was captured he lived in an underground made facility. During his stay, Allied Forces fire bombed Dresden, close to 100,000 people were killed. The times he was trapped in Dresden, and the friendly fire attack and the obliteration of close to hundred thousand people left emotion scars. The visits back to Europe,... His writing shows characters with no faces, and have readers understand the tribulations of what the war was like through the main character Billy Pilgrim by showing his ways of escape. There is a blurring line at times between the character Billy Pilgrim and Kurt Vonnget, as both were present in the book, but Vonneget as the narrator of the story. Though the theme is different many times, the one thing that sticks out is the idea that war is bad. Death of 135,000 people in Dresden and being a P.O.W. can take a toll on soldiers in
