William Shakespeare Literature Essay
We all know and love William Shakespeare is and his incredible works. William
Shakespeare was born in the year 1564 on April 23rd. Between the years 1585 and
1592, William Shakespeare supposedly began his apprenticeship as an actor. A few
years later is when Shakespeare began writing poems, and soon began writing plays.
These plays would soon become the plays that are famous around the world. William
Shakespeareis one of the most influential playwrights in American theatre. For more
than three centuries, his work is being taught in schools nationwide and theatres are
having no trouble selling out tickets to his plays. ( William Shakespeare ) (Thrasher)
Throughout world history, William Shakespeare s plays and sonnets have been an
influential everywhere. Even in today s times, his work has had an influence in
different parts of the globe. You might be wondering how Shakespeare s classic
literature could impact other countries around the world. Shakespeare s impact in
East Africaspecifically has done so much for the people who live there. So much
more than you ever imagine. Who could have guess that William Shakespeare has
also been a big influence in East Africa. East African theatre and civilization would
not be what it is today if it was not for William Shakespeare s influence.
Shakespeare s productions and expressionism influenced East Africa to develop and
articulate cultures. In many parts of East Africa, people who are of European and

Research Paper On Paring Knife
Picking the best paring knife
Kitchen knives come in a wide variety of styles and types and all of them have their
specific uses. However, there are certain types of knives that any cook cannot survive
without and a paring knife is among them.
A paring knife is a small, lightweight knife that you will pick for most jobs during
the preparation of meals. It is ideal for slicing, chopping, trimming and peeling of
fruits and vegetables.
Besides, it is also helpful when it comes to jobs such as deveining prawns since a
cooks knife is quite large.

Americanism as a Generational Divide Essay
The strain between Americanism and Jewish cultural identity is manifested
throughout the Krichinsky family in the 1990 film Avalon. While the Krichinsky
family is not portrayed as explicitly Jewish in the film, their cultural identity is
reflected in their Jewish roots, and one of the strongest aspects of this is in
community bonds. Judaism as a religion and as a culture focuses more strongly on
familyand personal relationships than on the individual. A large part of Jewish law is
about the relationship between man and his neighbors (Rich). Conversely, the
foundations of America were created on independence from Britain, and American
identity puts a great deal of respect and importance on self reliance. While in

The decorations and celebration that went on reinforce the sense of perceived
importance on Sam, as the individual especially because he does not know of the
holiday. He is notably alone in his arrival, as his brothers had already arrived before
him, thus perhaps denoting this as the first split of the family. Independence Day, and
Sam s arrival on it, regards the American assimilation that will precede the family and
lead to the eventual breakdown of its connections. Another repeating motif, besides
July Fourth, is Thanksgiving, notably another American (and not religious) holiday.
This harkens back to the idea of the Jewish Shabbat meal, a weekly meal traditionally
celebrated with family and guests, and while a Shabbat meal is never shown in
Avalon, there is allusion to this sort of gathering. Sam s cousin, Gabriel, and his wife,
are chronically late to Thanksgiving dinner and this becomes an underhanded joke
among the family. However, they still wait for them, year after year. Eventually, the
family decides that Gabriel and his wife were late every year, and they decide to cut
the turkey before they arrive, hoping that it will not upset Gabriel, noting that his
promptness has always lacked. They rationalize that the children were hungry
(Avalon) when Gabriel becomes enraged that the family has started the dinner
without them ( You cut the turkey?! ). This outburst is not
Examples Of Doublethink In 1984
The people of Oceania have absolutely no control. The Party supervises every aspect
of their lives from what one says to their facial expressions at any given moment.
Nobody is free to express their own will and everyone must follow the rigid guidelines
set in place by Big Brother. Although there is no law against what one may think, if
one s thoughts defy any aspect of the Party, serious consequences are put into effect.
Fear is ingrained into the citizens minds and they must act obediently to Big Brother.
The Party s manipulative manner constricts the citizen s individualism due to the fact
that Big Brother is able to control the entire population by constantly watching,
enforcing doublethink and enlisting the Thought Police. The Party s... Show more

Essentially, doublethink is the concept of holding two contradictory beliefs in one
s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them (Orwell 190). The Party uses
this form of manipulation to overpower the people and control their thoughts. One
of the most crucial examples of doublethink is the Party s four ministries which
include the Ministry of Love, Ministry of Truth, Ministry of Plenty, and the
Ministry of Peace. Based on the titles of these ministries, they would seem to have
a positive impact for the citizens of Oceania; however, all of the titles are
contradictory. In the Ministry of Truth, which is where Winston works, the people
are constantly rewriting history in old newspapers to ensure the Party is always
right. Everyday the people work to bring the past up to date and in this way every
prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have
been correct (Orwell 35). Within this ministry the employees also work to update
news about war between Oceania and other countries. Once Oceania begins war
with a new country the people are forced to believe they have always been at war
with that country. For instance, at one point in the past Oceania had allied with
Eastasia and been at war with Eurasia. However, as soon as that changed and Oceania
began to fight Eastasia within one week no reference to the war with Eurasia, or the
alliance with Eurasia, should remain in existence anywhere (Orwell 161). As
information dealing with any current event shifts the people must revise the past to
ensure the Party s reputation upholds. This same concept of deception goes for the
rest of the ministries. The Ministry of Love focuses on punishment through torture
and violence, the Ministry of Peace concentrates on war and the Ministry of Plenty
concerns itself with starvation. This

the cultural affects of national geographic Essay
Thailand is a country enveloped in much mystery and cultural tradition. This fact is
reflected very clearly in a series of pictures taken from the article, The Many Faces
of Thailand in the February 1996 issue of the National Geographic magazine, titled,

portray the richness of Thailands cultureand people and prove this statement about the

According the picture description, prostitution serves intercontinental clientele and
some 800,000 citizens are HIV positive and one in three prostitutes may be infected
with the virus. This photograph shows a less harmonized side of Thai life than the
first yet still maintains the theme of religion seen in the lives of many Thai people. It
shows a Thai woman pausing to respect a spirit house while being stared at by what
looks like two American men. There are many things that come to mind when seeing
this photo but one major thing is the way the men are staring at the woman. The way
in which the men are checking out the Thai woman while she is pausing to pay
respects to her religion is extremely distasteful. In my opinion National Geographic
may have been trying to say something about the way tourists treat natives when
visiting Thailand with this photograph. As for the mention of AIDS, I believe it was
brought up within this photograph because the nonchalance of sexuality is shown
here. It is very doubtful that the men are considering HIV when hiring prostitutes
while vacationing in Thailand.
Culturally the photographs tell completely different stories but are tied into the same
theme of showing Thai people to be religious and traditional. In the next photograph
the Royal Guards are shown riding in a truck that looks like a greenhouse. The
soldiers are protected from Bangkok s dirty air,

When he, his wife and a servant escaped from the house, all of his worldly
possessions burned in front of his very own eyes. The following day, he visited the

gigantic cat with a rope around its neck. This brought the narrator to believe that
during the fire, someone threw the cat inside one of the houses windows when the
house was on fire. Since the cellar was made of concrete, it was not destroyed and
they decided to live there. After some time, they find another cat with a splotch of

followed the narrator everywhere and everywhere. This eventually angered the
narrator again. When he was in the cellar with his wife the cat made him trip and
he was about to kill the cat with a fatal blow with an axe, until his wife stepped in
the middle and the axe slammed into her skull, oozing of blood and killing her

Johnny Cupcakes, a Multi-Million Dollar Clothing Brand
Johnny Cupcakes

Johnny Cupcakes is a multi million dollar clothing brand. The brand was founded
in 2001 by Johnny Earle. One of Johnny s acquired nicknames was Johnny
cupcakes. He thought it would be funny to make a couple random shirts that said
Johnny Cupcakes on them for the fun of it (Earle, 2012). After massive interest in
these shirts, he decided to continue to make more and change up the designs. In
2001, Johnny stated, the band I was in, On Broken Wings, finally got signed to a
record label and we began to tour full time (Earle, 2012). This opened up Johnny and

People not only crave exclusiveness, but will pay top dollar for it. Because they re
collectibles and not just apparel, customers are willing to pay $60 for a Johnny
Cupcakes shirt and even stand in line for a new release like kids waiting for concert
tickets (Spaeder 2007). This exclusiveness plays off of our cultures social classes.
Most Americans want to be in a better social class. Exclusiveness is a trait that is
common in the highest of classes. The limited edition shirts not only sets the
standards for someone s social status, but also keeps inventory at a low, making
sure the products that are produced are sold. Having limited edition shirts erases
much of the risks and fears of the changing trends of JC s market. Since there are
only a handful of the shirts available, they are long gone before the design and style
gets soggy. Also, this allows the company to be very flexible with the changing
market.
The two major internal factors that impact the organization are how they enhance
the customer experience and their product packaging. These are two very important
factors that help create the Johnny Cupcakes brand. They are part of the JC culture
and without them, the brand wouldn t be what it is today. Part of the customer
experience lies in JC s three retail store locations. They re set up just like bakeries,
complete with glass display shelves, employees wearing aprons and the smell of

Exploring The Tax Treatment Of Deductions, Losses, Sales...
Investing in real estate has become increasingly popular over the last fifty years and
has become a common investment vehicle. Although the real estate market has plenty
of opportunities for making big gains, buying and owning real estate is a lot more
complicated than investing in stocks and bonds. It is pretty common for people using
rental propertyto offset high expenses and provide some cash flow. However, the
tax effects on these transactions can be complex and not well understood. This
paper is focus on describing the tax treatment of deductions, losses, sales and
exchange for real property, especially a mixed use rental property, where a property
is used as a personal residence as well as for rental purpose.
1. Types of Residential Property for tax purpose
For tax purpose, there are three types residential property, which are personal use, the
mixed use, and rental use. The deductibility of the expenses and rental losses depend
on the categorization of the real property belong to. Therefore, it is important to
understand the categorizations.
1) Personal
Obviously, if a real estate is used for personal purpose not for rental or business
purposes, it is personal use real estate. However, it is still personal use when a
taxpayer rents out his or her personal residence less than 15 days during a tax year.
Under this situation, the taxpayer is not required to report the rental income and may
not deduct any rental expenses other than mortgage interest and property
Essay about Innocence in Daisy Miller
James manipulation of appearances in Daisy Miller as well as other character s
notions of these appearances provides us with a novella of enigmatic and fascinating
characters. Daisy, the most complicated of these ambiguities, is as mysterious as she
is flirtatious. James gives her a carefully constructed enigmatic quality that leaves the
reader wondering what her motivations were and who she truly was. He structures the
novella in such a way as to stress the insights that the supporting characters provide
into Daisy s character, weather accurate or erroneous. Despite their questionable
reliability, they allow James to make commentary on both European and American
cultures and social class. In Daisy Miller the protagonist, Daisy,... Show more content

Walker goes a step further than merely gossiping about Daisy s scandalous
meetings with men by trying to stop one such episode. On this particular day
Daisy was walking around a very crowded corner of Rome with both Giovanelli
and Winterbourne. Mrs. Walker pleads with Daisy to get into the carriage with her
but Daisy laughs her off saying If this is improper, Mrs. Walker... than I am all
improper, and you must give me up (93)! James attempts to explain this lack of
inhibition by constructing for her a simplistic vernacular and almost oblivious
approach to life that would prove her innocence. Without knowledge, any faux pas
are assumed inexperience, not immorality. This inexperience with more cultured
society is also apparent in her vernacular. Daisy says things like ever so (56) that
give her away as an uncultivated person (121). Her name, and the fact that it is her
chosen, not given one, is also very significant. Miller suggests her family s humble
history and Daisy, a common flower...is also simple and unpretentious. The fact
that it opens up in the sun also suggests [Daisy s] life loving qualities (121). That
she chose this name also supports a view that Daisy had no qualms about living
the way she does as a simple, life loving creature. James also provides some subtle
symbolism to support once again Daisy s innocence. In one scene, Daisy sits alone
with Giovanelli and a painting of Innocence X by Velazquez (105) hangs above them

Reasons For Pe Being An Important Part Of The National...
The foundation subjects in the national curriculum comprise of history, geography,
modern foreign languages, physical education (PE), religious education, art and
design, citizenship, computing, design and technology and music (DFE 2013, p7).
All the foundation subjects have a place on the National Curriculum; however, for
the purposes of this essay we will be focussing on the reasons for PE being an
important part of the National Curriculum.
The National Curriculum (DFE 2013, p5) states that every state funded school must
offer a curriculum which is balanced and broadly based and which promotes the
spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school
and of society and, prepares pupils at the school for opportunities, responsibilities
and experiences of later life .
It aims to give children the knowledge that that they need to be educated citizens and
gives an outline of the core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting
and creative lessons to promote pupils knowledge, understanding and skills as part of
the wider school curriculum (DFE 2013, p6).
The key aims of PE on the national curriculum focusses on a healthy lifestyle
developing competence across several physical activity areas and for children to be
active for sustained periods of time and encouraging children to engage in competitive
activities and sports (Smith 2014. P213).
At Key Stage 1 the national curriculum states that pupils should develop fundamental
Sudden Death In Denver, A Day To Remember
Sudden Death In Denver, A Day To Remember. January 8, 2012 dawned Cristal
cold in Denver. The snowfall from the night before had vanished, giving way to
bright sunshine. The winter sun began its slow ascension above the Rocky
Mountains, as if to glimpse over the upper deck of Mile High Stadium at the
spectacle to come. It was cold. However, the chances of the Broncos proceeding to
the second round of the NFL playoffs were even colder.
Quarterback Tim Tebowhad assumed the helm of a struggling Bronco team that
was sporting a 1 and 4 record in late October. They looked to be out of sorts and out

demanding that Tebow be given a chance to save the season.

Chicago at the gun.
Denver was riding the momentum of a six game winning streak. Tebow and the
Broncos had become a national phenomenon. They were bucking the law of
averages. Yet no one could see beyond the horizon and the adversity that lay ahead.
Denver went on to lose their last 3 games, giving the Broncos an 8 and 8 record. It

however, another miracle occurred for the 2011 Broncos. Despite their record,
Denver would proceed to the first round of the playoffs against the vaunted Pittsburgh

Crazy Horse And George Armstrong Custer Summary
Statement of Thesis:
The distinctions between Crazy Horse and General George Armstrong Custer are
discussed throughout historical works in depth. The main idea that separates the two
men is the perspective that they are viewed though. Historical scholarship and other
work uses the battle of the Little Bighorn as a uniting factor of the two men, but little
more thought or work is given to the matter of the men, mainly due to prejudice
views of that time as well as present day.
Through application of a trilogy (social, cultural and political) of historical lenses
will provide a better representation of Crazy Horse and General Custer.
Analysis of Questions:
Throughout the history of the United States of America we see from the white, male,
Christian, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A major case of this trend is the views of Crazy Horse the Man of the Oglala Sioux
and George Armstrong Custer. The perspective of Custer and Crazy Horse is being
viewed from different angles. Is Crazy Horse validated for killing soldiers, or was
Custer doing what was best for The United States. Many controversies are raised
from the two arguing opinions, and Historians argue over both. What do historians
feel now as opposed to the 19th Century view of historians and the public? The bias
from the time of the attacks to the bias that we face today can be said to have
changed, and how have historians documented this, and prepared to defend the ideas
they raise?
Explanation of Thesis:
As historians develop their ideas and writings of Crazy Horse we see the newer
thoughts or ideas trend to say that Custer was out witted and was the weaker man.
Before the last twenty years this idea was less prominent. Historians record the two
men in two separate lights, and for the most part are lacking to pair the men together.
The majority of historical scholarship focuses on how the men were different, and
how they fought. Very little work writes about the similarities of Custer and Crazy
The Story Of Ruth Is More Than A Romantic Story
The story of Ruth is more than a romantic story seeking to give hope to the
community in need of finding a husband. The book of Ruth contains a story of
oddities and redemption through the interaction of Ruth, a Moabitess, Naomi,
Ruth s mother in law and Israelite, and Boaz, a man related to Elimelek. The story
starts out by telling the readers the current lineage that is present in the story.
Elimelek and Naomi, from Bethlehem, have two songs named Mahlon and Kilion.
Those two are married to Ruth and Orpah. They lived in Moab but during that time
all the three of the men of this family died. The three woman are left by themselves
and the mother tells them that they should leave her in order to reestablish life in
their homeland. She was now worthless to them as they would only be burdened.
Orpah returns back out of logical decision, which respected the head of the
household and general survival. Ruth on the other decides to stay, respect, and
obey whatever Naomi may need from her. This extends to respecting and following
the cultural laws that belong to Naomi s character. Ruth works the land to provide
food and marries Boaz in order to redeem Elimelek and Naomi s line. The story has
many points that seek to be explained but I would like focus on the concept of Ruth s
identity from the beginning to the end of the story. Ruth helps the people in the story

Beal Street In Memphis, Tennessee
While walking down Beal Street in Memphis, Tennessee, people watching and
having fun, our group stood at a corner. Some flash of color caught my eye and I
looked down to see more. As I stood and stared, one of the group, a girl, asked me
what was so fascinating about junk on the sidewalk. Now, I m not the type of guy
that hangs around art galleries or for the matter, even looks at pictures in a book. I
really like the bright colors and jazzy looking saxophone on the sidewalk and
started looking for more. That s how the conversation start on what is art, what is
not, and just what is graffiti? Most people think of graffiti as vandalism or the
defacing of private property by wild teenagers with spray cans. I had never really
thought about graffiti or art for that matter until I found myself defending something
I didn t know about because I liked what I saw on the sidewalk in Memphis,
Tennessee. Now, that s sounds crazy but I did my best to explain using simple words
that I hoped they would understanding. When, one of the guys, starting in on... Show

scenes of children in the park, flowers, and my favorite, people dancing. Those

artist gets paid to do the work, but because the work comes out of his or her

Half Life Research Paper
Half Life, everybody loves Half Life right? One of the most successful games in
history, it s been given countless awards in the time since it s release. With people
to this day still developing Half Life mods you d expect them to have built upon
the original to try to improve its quality. Some, like Black Mesa have, others, like
Sven Co op have most certainly not. Now don t get me wrong, it has nothing bad
about it in principle, the idea was to add multiplayer missions to Half Life and
allow players to combine their strength against bots. On paper the idea of
multiplayer Half Life sounds amazing, however all things come at a cost, and this
mod paid that cost dearly. In terms of its original function Sven co op serves its

I found the AI had much higher numbers than the players on every server, reaching
upwards of 300 enemies in 10 minutes on some. The servers actually had at most 32
or so players but that many can cause a lot of damage. So much havoc was caused
in fact, that the players could lag the server to a halt. Unfortunately for the game
this took very little to manage, because when such a large group of people are all
causing explosions and banging on walls, or all trying to fit down one passageway
while trying to hit each other with crowbars. So the servers lag out too easily, of
course, I imagine a lot of games would have this problem if the players could run
amok too. However part of the blame for this rests with Half Life, its engine wasn t
built to support 32 living players working together and heavy instances of AI beside
them. There were other errors and problems that aren t the fault of Valve, like the
fact that there was no way to mute players spamming the voice and text chat (and
boy did they), or that the guns either did virtually no damage to enemies or would

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Rachel Carson s Silent Spring
Rachel Carson s Silent Spring, is arguably a seminal text of the environmental
movement and continues to impact on critical ecological discourse fifty years on.
The late 1950 s were a period of relative economic prosperity in the United States
with a parallel baby boom following World War 2. However, the Cold War between
the United States and the Soviet Union manifested economic and political rivalries
during the same time. It was in this era, that Rachel Carsonwrote Silent Spring which
invoked the public into an environmental consciousness (Griswold 2012). Inherent in
Carson s text, that fundamentally sought to inform the wider public about the
biological dangers inherent in pesticides, was her ability to utilise a variety of literary

The Realism And Romantic Period And The
Impressionism...
The Impressionism movement in art was followed by the Realism and Romantic
periods. In complete contrast to Realism and Romanticism, with its detailed, accurate
and photo like paintings of contemporary life, Impressionism brought about more of a
blurred reality to the canvas. Specific techniques Impressionist artists used were
unblended colors and quick, short brush strokes with a unique play on light. An
Impressionist artists goal was to objectively paint reality in terms of transient effects
of light and color. (1) The Impressionist artist would place vibrantly contrasting colors
directly on the canvas; which was a great contrast to the traditional art of blending
somber colors. Not understanding, or accepting these new techniques, the Salon of
the French Academy consistently rejected most artwork by Impressionist artist.
These rejections from the Salon eventually forced a group of Impressionist painters to
organize their own exhibitions; Exhibitions of the Independent Artists.
Claude Monet was the chief pioneer of the Impressionism period. Monet was born in
Paris (1840 1926) and moved near Le Havre at a young age. At only the age of 15,
Monet created his first successful drawings of caricatures. Monet continued to study
drawing until he met Eugene Boudin, who is responsible for intruding Monet to a
new style of painting; stepping outside the studio and painting in the open air. This
style would give way to more than 60 years of art that used effective methods to

System analysis and design is the scientific method of breaking down a system into
its component pieces and studying how well those component parts work and
interact to accomplish their main purpose. In essence, this course introduced me to
the art of solving problems with the aim of making a person or an organization s
work easier and more efficient. In the course of learning, I learnt how system analysis
and design employs a four pronged approach to solving these problems; planning,
analysis, design and implementation. Mainly the system development life cycle
(SDLC) is the process of understanding how information system can support business
needs, designing the system, building it, and delivering it to users.
In my study of system analysis and design, I have come to appreciate several
concepts that I have learnt throughout the course. More than anything else the system
analysis is a creative activity. The analyst must frame the whole such that it can be
analyzed. The analysis must work with all levels of an organization, data, work
progress, gathering information through a host of sources, and somehow shape these
into a cogent whole and the rest of the document describes in broad strokes how to
frame any system, how to harness these to create the documents necessary for
implementing a new plan.
The analyst must be aware of the organization from the abstract level (e.g., the
mission statement), to the data and technical level, the

Ann Starrett Mansion Bed and Breakfast
In 1899, George Starrett built a majestic mansion for his love Ann. Many
descendants lived in the mansion too. There have been sightings of the couple as
well as the nanny who helped raise the couple s son.The figure of a red haired
woman has been seen by many guests and staff. She s often seen admiring the solar
calender built by George for his wife, Ann, which is why many people have felt that
this peaceful spirit is Ann herself. While a male apparition is said to haunt the bed
and breakfast, the most lively spirit is the nanny herself. She s been known to interact

assistants. However, almost all of those advisors started their careers in Baltimore.

Each advisor gave me a positive rating on making the CRC s. However, there were
a few instances where I did not correctly highlight the client s assets. For example,
if a client had made a significant profit over the years, I was to create a CRC where
the assets are numerical rather than in percentages, and vice versa if a client had lost
money.
Another task I performed was assisting two advisors on their new presentation to for
perspective clients. I mostly worked on constructing a bullish support line for several
of the clients. The bullish support line determines when there it is the right time to sell
your stocks. It is very similar to work I had done in the past weeks with the point

bought new shares of stock. It s true that the majority of the clients deal strictly with
mutual funds or annuities, but there were numerous cases where clients decide to
buy stocks. With the list of clients, I researched the stocks they had bought. Of
course, there must be a buy signal, which the support line will indicate. Once the line

Art Appreciation
Art cannot be classified into one category, style, or period. Art is very diverse,
ranging from the beginning of the human being to today. Through the years, art has
evolved dramatically from stick figures and two dimensional animals to three
dimensional sculptures and intricate paintings. The artwork featured at the Seattle Art
Museum shows many different types of art and features several different periods in
which these artworks were created. Two pieces of art that stuck out the most at the
museum was Albert Bierstadt s Puget Sound on the Pacific Coast and Robert Arneson

The pool that Robert formed using the ceramic media is three dimensional in form
and is closely shaped like a lima bean. The water of the pool, is made up of many
different pieces of ceramic and has several different shades of blue and green. In
order to represent the movement of water within the pool, Robert used
complimentary blues and greens together and slightly swirled them to make it
look close to how water moves. Each piece of the pools water fits together like a
tight puzzle. They are numbered so that the colors and shapes can be set together
perfectly while on display. In the center of the pool, is a large white ceramic
splash . Robert gave this piece curves and form to represent the splash of water as
if someone was jumping into the pool and creating a huge backsplash. The edge of
Roberts Pool with Splash is created to look like the cement barrier that contains the
water of the pool. He formed each piece to look like a block which forms the shape of

that the water pieces give. The Pool with Splash by Robert Arneson really shows
and represents how a pool in someone s backyard would look on a hot summer day.

The Color Purple begins by giving the readers a very vivid and vulgar message.
Alice Walker, the author, portrays the cruelty that specifically one character from
her perspective received. The book is written in diary entries from Celie to God

own father and had two children by him, one of which died. She s basically forced
to marry a man who she calls Mr. ____. He reluctantly took her because he couldn t

children and receives no attention. Harpo, the oldest boy, steps up and marries a
lady named Sofia who has two children by him. They live in a very small home on

The Downfall Of Habits In William Shakespeare s Macbeth
Macbeth , one of William Shakespeare s many famous plays, and the story that it
follows is one that is quite unfortunate. The protagonist, Macbeth, is a thane in
Scotland who after a battle meets three witches who grant him three prophecies, one
is of the title that he already held, another is of a position he would receive moments
later, and the last most lofty one is that Macbethshall become king. The first two
predictions create credibility for the third, and with this third prediction made it
would seem that Macbeth has been stripped of any decision and is forced to assert
himself as king through murder. The third prediction in particular creates the
greatest evidence that Macbeth is acting on the witches prophecies because he
must, but when the situation is further inspected it becomes clear that the evil acts
he commits are of his own free will, and examples of this can be found in three
murders he either commits himself or hires murderers for: the murder of the king,
the murder of one of his friends, and the murder of a man s entire family. The first of
the heinous crimes that Macbeth commits is by far the most monumental, and that is
the murder of the king of Scotland, Duncan. From the witches first set of predictions
that Macbeth, shalt be king hereafter, (Shakespeare I.3.71 72) it would seem that
Macbeth s hands were tied and he had no choice but to kill his king, but in reality the
witches don t say this anywhere in their first predictions. In addition to
Taking a Look at Coordinating Compounds
Coordinating compounds, usually noted by their Indo Aryan name dvandva .
Coordination complexes were notable since the start of chemistry. The definition and
border of the class of coordinating compounds involves two issues: initially, what a
compound is and how can we distinguish coordinative compounds from alternative
multiword expressions; second, the understanding of what coordination is, and the
way it s to be distinguished from alternative, non symmetrical relations (e.g.
subordination). The major breakthrough occurred once Alfred Werner put forward in
1893 that Co(III) bears six ligands in an octahedral geometry. His theory permits one
to grasp the distinction between coordinated and ionic in a compound, for instance
chloride within the cobalt ammine chlorides and to clarify several of the earlier
unexplainable isomers. In 1914, Werner resolved the first coordination complex,
known as hexol, into optical isomers, overthrowing the idea that solely carbon
compounds may possess chirality.
Introduction
Coordination compound is a compound formed from a Lewis acid and a BrГёnsted
base , a Lewis acid being an electron pair acceptor and a BrГёnsted base a proton

Harry Potter and its Archetypes
The word archetype, frequently used in literature, is defined as a typical character, an
action or a situation that seems to represent such universal patterns of human nature
(literarydevices.net). There are three main types of archetypes, Symbolic archetype,
Character archetype, and Situation archetype. Symbolic archetypes are archetypes
such as the quest, the journey, the fall, etc. Also, examples of symbolic archetypes are
Colors, numbers, shapes, etc. Lastly, character archetypes are the hero, mentors,
friendly beast, etc. The effect of the situation archetype the Quest and the Battle
between good and evil of the movie, Harry Potter, is that it makes the audience easier
to understand the plot of the movie, and the purpose is that it helps the audience
identify the characters and the situations in the movie.
The movie, Harry Potter, is about a boy, named Harry Potter who was born with the

Just like its definition, archetypes represent universal patterns of human nature. With
archetypes, the audiences can easily detect what is happening in the story, because
archetypes show the important factors of the movie. For example, by watching the

good and evil, and continue on with the story with the information that the movie is
about the battle of Harry Potter and Voldemort. Also, by the character archetype of

diverse ways. Like this, with archetypes, audiences can easily be aware of who is
who, and what is going to happen along the
Analysis Of The Novel Fearless
There are many heroes in the novel Fearless, which is a book based off the life of
Adam Brown, a Navy SEAL. Making it obvious to tell that he is a hero, due to him
giving his life for his country and how he treated people he had never met.
However, he is not the only hero in the novel. The other hero in this story is Kelly,
Adams wife. She is a hero for Adam, as she helped him through his drug addiction,
always supported him, and most of all, she trusted in him. First, the quality that
made Adam a hero in everyone s eyes. This quality is that he gave his life for his
country. He did so, on a mission in Afghanistan. The mission was called Objective
Lake James, as stated in the chapter 17 title. This was a very risky mission, as a
matter of fact, they said it was so risky they sent Adam s team because, they knew
that his team was the only one crazy enough to go on this mission. Along with that,
a member of the Army, near the location of the attack, compared the valley to a
hornets nest; this can be found on page 272. To add to the pressure of this mission,
they had to do it at night. However, they had night vision goggles but, they didn t
know if the enemy also had the ability to see at night. Another good example of
how Adam was a hero for giving his life for his country, is how ready he was to give
his life. You can tell this by what the members of his platoon said Adam told them
while he was bleeding out. These words were I m okay. ,which can be found on page

Why Is Calculus Important
Studying the history behind Calculus can seem, for the untrained eye, an impractical
use of time. One might think that since as Calculus students, we are using the most
advanced and contemporary functions of calculus, it s useless to look back and see
what people did before us. However, there are several reasons why looking at the
historical background of Calculusis important. As the lecture stated, the main reasons
why the historyof Calculus is important is that it opens our, being the students, eyes.
It opens our eyes to the motivation behind historical Calculus scholars. It opens our
eyes to how we can organize Calculus results. It opens our eyes to the human and
personal aspects of the people who developed calculus. Finally, it opens our eyes to
the link between faith and mathematics. In this historical discussion of the definite
integral, we will look at several of the founding fathers of this concept. To begin, the
first organized attempt at computing an exact computation of a mathematically
defined area was made by Eudoxus. Eudoxus was a Greek Mathematician and
astronomer, who also wrote and discussed on topics like geography and philosophy.

his studies in physics, astronomy, and engineering. He is often regarded as the father
of integral calculus (Rorres.) One fascinating concept Archimedes studied was
mentioned in the virtual lecture: Archimedes explored the concept of calculating the
area in a curve by calculating the volume of smaller and smaller triangles. This
method is similar to what we are currently using in our modern definite integral

Most of the hormones present in the human body are transported through the blood.
Hormones according to www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/nature/etc
/hormones can influence the function of the immune system and alter one s behavior.
These chemical signals are the reason for many factor including why one s arms are
the same length, why one can turn food into a viable fuel, and why one grows
through puberty. Hormones are indicative of changes in target cells by binding to
hormone receptors. In this way, even though hormones circulate throughout the body
and meet different cell types, they only affect cells that possess the necessary
receptors. Receptors of a specific hormone can be found on different cells or a small
number of specialized cells. Per www.pbs.com/ the thyroid hormones act on different
tissue types, stimulating metabolic activity throughout the body. Cells can have
receptors for the identical hormone, but often also possess receptors for different
types of hormones. The number of receptors that respond to a hormone determines
the cell s sensitivity to a specific hormone. The number of receptors that respond to a
hormone can change over time, resulting in increasing or decreasing the cell s
sensitivity. Often in up regulation, the number of receptors increases to rising
hormone levels, making the cell more sensitive to the hormone. Down regulation
describes when a cell is decreasing the quantity of a cellular component. When the
cells respond to a hormone, they express a specific receptor for that specific hormone.
The hormone binds to the receptor protein, resulting in the activation of a mechanism
that ultimately leads to cell type specific responses. Receptor binding alters cellular
activity, resulting in an increase or decrease in normal body processes. According to
www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline depending on the location of the protein receptor

Where Worlds Collide By Pico Iyer
Where Worlds Collide is an essay by Pico Iyer who talks about the expectations and
reality of Los Angeles through the perspectives of travelers from different
backgrounds. In Where Worlds Collide, Pico Iyer argues that even though Los
Angeles is depicted as a vicinity to receive wealth, happiness, and many opportunities
it is actually the antithesis, and instead, many harsh prejudice and unending craziness
will occur instead; Iyer argues this by using allusions, anaphoras, and juxtapositions
to help convey what he is saying.
In the beginning of this passage, Iyer starts off with a lively and narrative tone to
introduce a biblical allusion in the first paragraph; Iyer explains how many travelers
come out from the airplane to reach their final destination, the Promised Land. This
allusion sparks an interest to the readers because Iyer is referring to the Los Angeles
International Airport as the Promised Land. Throughout the essay, Iyer refers to the
LAX as the Land of Opportunity Iyer is using these two allusions to help paint a
picture of what the LAX means to these naive travelers, a place filled with hopes and
dreams. These allusions help correspond to the jubilance of the author s tone and
helps keep the writing capture the author s passion about his story.
Later in Iyer s passage, he uses anaphoras to help solidify the hectic attributes of the
LAX, which contradicts the supposed Promised Land. Iyer describes how the second
thing that the travelers see is that [i]n front of them is a Van Stop, a Bus Stop, a
Courtesy Tram Stop, and a Shuttle Bus Stop... (101). The repetition of stop is
utilized to show that all of these stops are bombarding their way through towards
the travelers just as if everything is going out of control. The scenery that Iyer is
depicting is about a hectic airport, not about a Promised Land. Iyer includes more
anaphoras as he talks about how [t]hey have already braved the ranks of Asian
officials, the criminal looking security men in jackets... They already, perhaps, visited
the restroom where someone has written, Yes on Proposition 187. Mexicans go
home... (101). The anaphoras being used in this example shows the repetition of they
have and the emphasis of this

Dungeons And Dragons
How Dungeons and Dragons Affects Social Anxiety and Cognitive Abilities
Dungeons and Dragons is a tabletop role playing game designed to fuel people s
imagination creativity and other cognitive abilities. Dungeons and Dragons or
DnD for short is a great game for social interaction and entertainment between
friends and even strangers. One of the advantages of DnD is being able to create
connections with new people. The people that play DnD include a variety of
different people, other than just the stereotypical nerds, like Vin Diesel. DnD is
more than just a game, it can be used as a tool for therapy and learning/teaching.

Social anxiety is not fun, but maybe one day with the help of DnD people can
eventually overcome it. I believe that DnD will be able to help deal with mental
afflictions like anxiety and depression. Many people struggle with interacting with
other people, but that is not a bad thing. It is unfortunate at some times, but
eventually they will have a bad social experience. DnD is not used to perfect their
social choices, but more to make sure they can cope with the bad choices. When
they swing at that dragon they better be know what they are getting into, and the
same when they may be offered drugs. They must make the right choice and
hopefully DnD will help them through. Life skills are skills obtained through
experience, good or bad they always learn something. With DnD maybe the bad does
not have to have the same harsh consequences as real life. To summarize that is the
main point of Dungeons and Dragons, to make life not as
The Defense Satellite Communications System
The Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) began supporting wideband
communications requirements for the government in the summer of 1966; the
DSCS was broken down into three phases. The first phase was to send 26 small
communications satellites to orbit with a lifespan of 18 months with one of the 26
satellites lasting 11 years after the launch (DSCS, 1982). Phase two of the DSCS
program started shortly after the final launches to orbit of phase one. The first
launches of phase two we done in the fall of 1971, phase two DSCS were launched
to replace all phase one DSCS. DSCS phase two had all the incorporated technology

Usain Bolt s Secret Golden Girl Summary
USAIN BOLT S SECRET GOLDEN GIRL, BIASED? In the article Usain Bolt s
secret golden girl of the Sun, a tabloid newspaper, Usain Bolt s love life is
described. This is mostly done in a negative way. Besides the way the Sun talks
about his love life, The Sun also seems to be disgusted by the amount of money
Usain Bolt earns with his top career in the sports world and how he spends it. They
tried to convince the reader to look at Bolt in a negative way by using emotive
language and by putting pictures next to the text which are misleading. To start
with the headline; Usain Bolt s secret golden girl. The headline is full of bias. For
example the author only names Usain Bolt in full and calls Megan Edwards the
secret golden girl , this could be interpreted as that Usain Bolt is the most important
in this relationship and that Megan Edwards is not even worth naming. The name
the writer gives Megan Edwards; the secret golden girl is also biased; for example
secret could mean that there is actually no relationship, but the Sun changes this in
the word secret . So the reader will not mind... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The source is very important to find out whether an article is biased or not. Media
is at the moment the most powerful way to influence people. So when a source is
for example politically biased then the ideas of the politicians could be spread as
facts. This is not the case in this article, even though it is biased. They only choose
sources, which strengthen their point; sketching the image of a superficial relation,
based on looks and money. Like in: She s really smitten with Usain. It s nothing too
serious at the moment as he s jetting all over the world but they are two adults
having fun . The definition of smitten is; starting to like someone. In this context
(with all the other bias) it looks like she did not like him in the first place, but choose
him for his money. As said
Stand By Me Point Of View
Stand By Me Stand by me directed by Rob Reiner is based on Stephen King s
novella the Body . Released in 1986 this coming of age drama tells the adventures
of four neighborhood friends as they travel the countryside of Oregon to find a
dead body in search of fame and notoriety. Aristotle s elements shines throughout
the film and in my opinion the director nails every key element. The point of view
is unique and wonderfully told, the plot is simple and easy to follow and the
characters are likeable, easy to relate and honestly depicted. To begin with, the
narrator s point of view captures your attention straight from the beginning of the
film. The story is told by the main character Gordie Lachance who is an author
having a flashback to 1959 in his hometown of Oregon. I feel this choice to make the

The choice of indirect presentation shows the characters in action and how they
progress through the plot. They infer what the character is like and give a little
background on each individual. For instance teddy Duchamp is the son of a war
veteran who abused him and disfigured his ear as a result of mental illness caused
from actions in war. Fathered by an alcoholic Chris Chambers worries about his
future and longs for acceptance which causes him to act out. And Vern Tessio is
often picked on for being a square and always afraid. The characters complement
one another and what makes the film great. Stand by Me is my absolute favorite
film despite being released almost 30 years ago. The director s vision along with
Aristotle s six element allow this film to stand the test of time and be called a
classic . These four young boys are forced to mature and deal with adult situations
such as death, neglect, abuse, and peer pressure. Friendships are depicted as
temporary but yet eternal. Everything was there and around us. We knew exactly
who we were and exactly where we were going. It was
Characteristics Of Feral Pigs
Feral Pigs By Jessica Hollitt
Feral pigs were introduced by the early European settlers in 1788. Pigs were used as
domesticated companions of the Europeans as they moved around Australia. After
time, these animals escaped from captivity and their population began to increase
dramatically. Feral pigs have a huge negative impact on the native vegetation,
environment and agriculture. They have very destructive habits when feeding and
foraging. They can cause erosion of soil and fouling of watering points with their
wallowing.
Feral pigs need satisfactory supplies of food and water and enough shelter for
protection against extremes of temperature. Feral pigs can be found in areas with
these conditions including rainforests, monsoon forest patches, paperbark swamps,
open flood plains, marsh areas, semi arid flood plains, dry woodlands and subalpine
grasslands and forests.
They are a medium to large sized animal with a short stubby snout, sported by a
short neck. The body of a feral pig is rounded. They have small eyes, and large ears
with points. Feral pigs are four legged animals with four toes of each foot. Their tail
is generally curled or straight covered with hair and they are covered in fur and have
very thick skin which helps to insulate their body temperature.
Feral pigs are omnivores, preferring succulent green vegetation, fruit, grain, and a
wide variety of animal meat including, frogs, reptiles, birds, small mammals; and
carrion. They also feed on underground plants such as root, bulbs, corms, and fungi.
As a result of fossicking for food. The vast diet of feral pigs can cause severe
environmental damage to vegetation. Feral pigs can also cause erosion of soil and
damage to the native species of animals and vegetation. The requirement of protein
and energy in a pig s diet is very high. This is needed for breeding, successful
lactation and growth of young.
Feral pigs restrict their activities to cool parts of the day such as dusk and dawn.
Throughout hot weather, pigs become primarily nocturnal, and in cooler weather the
inactivity is generally throughout the middle of the day. Feral pigs create and use
trails to easily travel to and from places such
Linguistic Relativity Essay
Introduction:
Linguistic relativity is the notion that language can affect our thought processes,
and is often referred to as the Sapir Whorf hypothesis , after the two linguists who
brought the idea into the spotlight. Whorf writes how Language is not merely a
reproducing instrument for voicing ideas but rather is itself the shaper of ideas, the
program and guide for the individual s mental activity (1956:212), and I will
explain how it is able to do so. In this essay I will argue that certain ways of mental
categorization, spatial cognition and reality interpretation, based on the
characteristics of our specific variety of language, influence our perception of the
world. I will discuss how languages divide up nature differently, and... Show more

Dirven and Verspoor note how the English differentiation is entirely forced on these
children by the contrast between the English prepositions in and on (1998:140),
whereas in Korean, Kkita (glossable loosely as fit ...) is indifferent to whether the
Figure goes into, onto, over, or together with the Ground, as long as it leads to a tight
fit (Choi and Bowerman 1991:90).
The fact that the tested children grouped the actions in accordance with the
grammatical structure of their respective language is evidence for linguistic relativity,
as both groups of children construe(d) the relations between objects in the world on
the basis of their language specific categories, and not on the basis of some universal,
conceptual categories (Dirven and Verspoor 1998:140 141). This suggests that the
children from the two linguistic communities will partly see the world in a different
way, being inclined to categorise the things they see in contrasting fashions.
Certain features are deemed important enough to warrant a category, and different
languages prioritise different qualities. What this means is that when we say
something belongs to a certain set, e.g. that putting toys into a container falls into an
in group, we are focussing on some, but neglecting other details of the situation, such
as the tightness of the fit. The framework of our language

1.0 Introduction 2.1 Background of the Study
It all started when four visionaries conceptualized setting up a training center to fill
very specific manpower needs.
It was in the early 80s when Augusto C. Lagman, Herman T. Gamboa, Benjamin A.
Santos, and Edgar H. Sarte four entrepreneurs came together to set up Systems
Technology Institute (STI), a training center that delivers basic programming
education to professionals and students who want to learn this new skill.
Systems Technology Institute s name came from countless brainstorming sessions
among the founders, perhaps from Sarte s penchant for three letter acronyms from the
companies he managed at the time.

The Pros And Cons Of Invading North Korea
If the United States were to become a real empire tomorrow, I would hope the
leaders of our empire would invade North Korea. North Korea is one of he United
States most feared threats. Invading North Korea would make the United States as a
whole, feel more protected or secure. Many reasons come to mind when thinking
about invading North Koreasuch as, nuclear bomb threats, partial benefit towards
North Korea, and the advantages and disadvantages.
Nuclear bomb threats to the United States, I believe, is the main reason invading them
would be the best idea. In my opinion, I don t think North Korea s nuclear bombs
have the right requirements to hit the United States, but they are still a treat. North
Korea may say they have the technology and
Comparing Blackberry-Picking And Digging
In his poems Blackberry Picking and Digging, Seamus Heaney unveils many events
of his childhood along with his own feelings about his past. As a naive child, Heaney
reveals many simple and paradoxical emotions in the two poems written in the voice
of his youth.
Just like any other boy from a countryside, Seamus Heaney portrays feelings of pure
excitement and joy in Blackberry Picking. The length of the stanzas tell the
readers how much he is looking forward to the day when the berries will ripen (a
longer description is made of the process of waiting and picking the blackberries),
and when a glossy purple clot appears among others, red, green, hard as a knot,
Heaney finally starts to get ready. An image is created where he is running around
and calling his friends to join him in picking blackberries. Also, the readers can
almost feel the blackberries, which are still quite ... Show more content on

The title of the poem Digging is very collective of Heaney s past and repetition is
used to emphasize the title. Heaney s father and grandfather had owned a farm, but
he had chosen not to follow their routes, instead preferring to become a poet. As he
recalls his childhood, some memories are in more detail than others (the irregular
stanzas). The poem ends with Heaney saying Between my finger and my thumb
the squat pen rests. I ll dig with it. This line itself is a repetition of the first few
lines of the poem, and an image is created where Heaney is sitting on his desk,
bringing his past back to life on paper. Again, he expresses feelings of guilt and
regret as he claims that he will still continue on the family business, but though
digging with his pen instead. Heaney doesn t want to become a farmer; however, he
digs with his squad pen, remembering the olden days when he used to love watching
and helping his father and grandfather,
American Psycho vs. Wall Street
The Reagan 80s , a Wall Street bull market and excess for the sake of excess.
During this decade, the economy was coming out of a severe recession after 1982
and it exploded shortly thereafter. It seemed out of nowhere, people were getting
rich by investing in the stock market. The 80 s was the decade of the corporate
raiders. Powerful, money hungry investors would buy companies when their values
were on the line and dismantle them, selling off the assets piece by piece and
becoming filthy rich off of it. Clearly, these investors had to have had the education
and long career in the financial industry in order to have the knowledge to pull off
maneuvers like this. This whole idea of excess that ran rampant in the 80s leads us to

I was the victim of the burgeoning culture of the politically correct. I had more
money than I knew what to do with. It was the year of being hated.
Wall Street has been touted as one of the most accurate portrayals of Wall Street
culture and recently spawned a sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. The
character of Gordon Gekko and his obsession with greed is still prevalent today,
especially during the fall of Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns in 2008. Many of
the executives of those firms as well as Wall Street executives in general were
referred to as being the Gordon Gekkos of our generation. Most news coverage
regarding government intervention in the economy has been about Wall Street
intervention as of the past few years. There are so many events in American Psycho
that have been left open to interpretation, but the most popular being that Bret Easton
Ellis was commenting on morality within society and its obsession with vanity and
greed. Wall Street is a much more straightforward text which shows the deep roots
of greed in the business world. Oliver Stone modeled Gekko after several notorious
Wall Street executives who were arrested for trading scandals as well as his father
(who was a stock broker) and himself. Both characters (Gordon Gekko and Patrick
Bateman) were developed so that they have no redeeming qualities (especially
Patrick Bateman). One of the big controversies over American Psycho was how

Children Of A Child Protection Process Essay
There are a number of different organisations that may be involved when a young
person or child has been abused or harmed. This includes health visitors, GP s, the
police, schools, the NSPCC, psychologists, school nurses and probation workers.
Health visitors have a vital role in protecting children from harm and abuse
because they are one of the first to recognise children who are likely to be abused
or neglected. They play a big part in all stages of a child protection process
including case reviews. They support and guide parents of young children, provide
developmental checks on children under the age of five, have contact with many
multi agencies and they support the work of the Local Safeguarding Children s
Board (LSCB). They are trained to a high level to recognise any risks that the child
might be in and also they will visit the children at home. They are in a position to
gather information from very early on and therefore this enables them to start the
process quite quickly when any signs or concerns of abuse or neglect are detected.
The health visitor will need to have ongoing contact with the family if abuse or
neglect is suspected. Health visitors should use their own judgement on when to
share information with other agencies.
The role of a General Practitioner is to maintain their skills in recognising if a child is
being abused or neglected. They need to follow all correct procedures if abuse or
neglect is suspected. All GP s should have regular training and

  • 4. Americanism as a Generational Divide Essay The strain between Americanism and Jewish cultural identity is manifested throughout the Krichinsky family in the 1990 film Avalon. While the Krichinsky family is not portrayed as explicitly Jewish in the film, their cultural identity is reflected in their Jewish roots, and one of the strongest aspects of this is in community bonds. Judaism as a religion and as a culture focuses more strongly on familyand personal relationships than on the individual. A large part of Jewish law is about the relationship between man and his neighbors (Rich). Conversely, the foundations of America were created on independence from Britain, and American identity puts a great deal of respect and importance on self reliance. While in American culturethis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The decorations and celebration that went on reinforce the sense of perceived importance on Sam, as the individual especially because he does not know of the holiday. He is notably alone in his arrival, as his brothers had already arrived before him, thus perhaps denoting this as the first split of the family. Independence Day, and Sam s arrival on it, regards the American assimilation that will precede the family and lead to the eventual breakdown of its connections. Another repeating motif, besides July Fourth, is Thanksgiving, notably another American (and not religious) holiday. This harkens back to the idea of the Jewish Shabbat meal, a weekly meal traditionally celebrated with family and guests, and while a Shabbat meal is never shown in Avalon, there is allusion to this sort of gathering. Sam s cousin, Gabriel, and his wife, are chronically late to Thanksgiving dinner and this becomes an underhanded joke among the family. However, they still wait for them, year after year. Eventually, the family decides that Gabriel and his wife were late every year, and they decide to cut the turkey before they arrive, hoping that it will not upset Gabriel, noting that his promptness has always lacked. They rationalize that the children were hungry (Avalon) when Gabriel becomes enraged that the family has started the dinner without them ( You cut the turkey?! ). This outburst is not
  • 5. Examples Of Doublethink In 1984 The people of Oceania have absolutely no control. The Party supervises every aspect of their lives from what one says to their facial expressions at any given moment. Nobody is free to express their own will and everyone must follow the rigid guidelines set in place by Big Brother. Although there is no law against what one may think, if one s thoughts defy any aspect of the Party, serious consequences are put into effect. Fear is ingrained into the citizens minds and they must act obediently to Big Brother. The Party s manipulative manner constricts the citizen s individualism due to the fact that Big Brother is able to control the entire population by constantly watching, enforcing doublethink and enlisting the Thought Police. The Party s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, doublethink is the concept of holding two contradictory beliefs in one s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them (Orwell 190). The Party uses this form of manipulation to overpower the people and control their thoughts. One of the most crucial examples of doublethink is the Party s four ministries which include the Ministry of Love, Ministry of Truth, Ministry of Plenty, and the Ministry of Peace. Based on the titles of these ministries, they would seem to have a positive impact for the citizens of Oceania; however, all of the titles are contradictory. In the Ministry of Truth, which is where Winston works, the people are constantly rewriting history in old newspapers to ensure the Party is always right. Everyday the people work to bring the past up to date and in this way every prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have been correct (Orwell 35). Within this ministry the employees also work to update news about war between Oceania and other countries. Once Oceania begins war with a new country the people are forced to believe they have always been at war with that country. For instance, at one point in the past Oceania had allied with Eastasia and been at war with Eurasia. However, as soon as that changed and Oceania began to fight Eastasia within one week no reference to the war with Eurasia, or the alliance with Eurasia, should remain in existence anywhere (Orwell 161). As information dealing with any current event shifts the people must revise the past to ensure the Party s reputation upholds. This same concept of deception goes for the rest of the ministries. The Ministry of Love focuses on punishment through torture and violence, the Ministry of Peace concentrates on war and the Ministry of Plenty concerns itself with starvation. This

According the picture description, prostitution serves intercontinental clientele and some 800,000 citizens are HIV positive and one in three prostitutes may be infected with the virus. This photograph shows a less harmonized side of Thai life than the first yet still maintains the theme of religion seen in the lives of many Thai people. It shows a Thai woman pausing to respect a spirit house while being stared at by what looks like two American men. There are many things that come to mind when seeing this photo but one major thing is the way the men are staring at the woman. The way in which the men are checking out the Thai woman while she is pausing to pay respects to her religion is extremely distasteful. In my opinion National Geographic may have been trying to say something about the way tourists treat natives when visiting Thailand with this photograph. As for the mention of AIDS, I believe it was brought up within this photograph because the nonchalance of sexuality is shown here. It is very doubtful that the men are considering HIV when hiring prostitutes while vacationing in Thailand. Culturally the photographs tell completely different stories but are tied into the same theme of showing Thai people to be religious and traditional. In the next photograph the Royal Guards are shown riding in a truck that looks like a greenhouse. The soldiers are protected from Bangkok s dirty air,

This brought the narrator to believe that during the fire, someone threw the cat inside one of the houses windows when the house was on fire. Since the cellar was made of concrete, it was not destroyed and they decided to live there. After some time, they find another cat with a splotch of white on his chest. They decide to adopt him and bring him home. This cat followed the narrator everywhere and everywhere. This eventually angered the narrator again. When he was in the cellar with his wife the cat made him trip and he was about to kill the cat with a fatal blow with an axe, until his wife stepped in the middle and the axe slammed into her skull, oozing of blood and killing her instantly. He decides to put her body in one of the walls of the cellar, like the monks of the middle ages did. For the next three days he does not see the cat. This exclusiveness plays off of our cultures social classes. Most Americans want to be in a better social class. Exclusiveness is a trait that is common in the highest of classes. Although the real estate market has plenty of opportunities for making big gains, buying and owning real estate is a lot more complicated than investing in stocks and bonds. It is pretty common for people using rental propertyto offset high expenses and provide some cash flow. However, the tax effects on these transactions can be complex and not well understood. This paper is focus on describing the tax treatment of deductions, losses, sales and exchange for real property, especially a mixed use rental property, where a property is used as a personal residence as well as for rental purpose. 1. Therefore, it is important to understand the categorizations. 1) Personal Obviously, if a real estate is used for personal purpose not for rental or business purposes, it is personal use real estate. However, it is still personal use when a taxpayer rents out his or her personal residence less than 15 days during a tax year. Under this situation, the taxpayer is not required to report the rental income and may not deduct any rental expenses other than mortgage interest and property

Essay about Innocence in Daisy Miller James manipulation of appearances in Daisy Miller as well as other character s notions of these appearances provides us with a novella of enigmatic and fascinating characters. Daisy, the most complicated of these ambiguities, is as mysterious as she is flirtatious. James gives her a carefully constructed enigmatic quality that leaves the reader wondering what her motivations were and who she truly was. He structures the novella in such a way as to stress the insights that the supporting characters provide into Daisy s character, weather accurate or erroneous. Despite their questionable reliability, they allow James to make commentary on both European and American cultures and social class. In Daisy Miller the protagonist, Daisy,... On this particular day Daisy was walking around a very crowded corner of Rome with both Giovanelli and Winterbourne. Mrs. Walker pleads with Daisy to get into the carriage with her but Daisy laughs her off saying If this is improper, Mrs. Walker... than I am all improper, and you must give me up (93)! James attempts to explain this lack of inhibition by constructing for her a simplistic vernacular and almost oblivious approach to life that would prove her innocence. Without knowledge, any faux pas are assumed inexperience, not immorality. This inexperience with more cultured society is also apparent in her vernacular. Daisy says things like ever so (56) that give her away as an uncultivated person (121). Her name, and the fact that it is her chosen, not given one, is also very significant. Miller suggests her family s humble history and Daisy, a common flower...is also simple and unpretentious. The fact that it opens up in the sun also suggests [Daisy s] life loving qualities (121). That she chose this name also supports a view that Daisy had no qualms about living the way she does as a simple, life loving creature. James also provides some subtle symbolism to support once again Daisy s innocence. In one scene, Daisy sits alone with Giovanelli and a painting of Innocence X by Velazquez (105) hangs above them to remind the

The book of Ruth contains a story of oddities and redemption through the interaction of Ruth, a Moabitess, Naomi, Ruth s mother in law and Israelite, and Boaz, a man related to Elimelek. The story starts out by telling the readers the current lineage that is present in the story. Elimelek and Naomi, from Bethlehem, have two songs named Mahlon and Kilion. Those two are married to Ruth and Orpah. They lived in Moab but during that time all the three of the men of this family died. Ruth works the land to provide food and marries Boaz in order to redeem Elimelek and Naomi s line. The story has many points that seek to be explained but I would like focus on the concept of Ruth s identity from the beginning to the end of the story. Ruth helps the people in the story to reach happiness but she does necessarily not accept the relationship/devotion to the God figure. The story itself

In complete contrast to Realism and Romanticism, with its detailed, accurate and photo like paintings of contemporary life, Impressionism brought about more of a blurred reality to the canvas. Specific techniques Impressionist artists used were unblended colors and quick, short brush strokes with a unique play on light. An Impressionist artists goal was to objectively paint reality in terms of transient effects of light and color. (1) The Impressionist artist would place vibrantly contrasting colors directly on the canvas; which was a great contrast to the traditional art of blending somber colors. Not understanding, or accepting these new techniques, the Salon of the French Academy consistently rejected most artwork by Impressionist artist. The protagonist, Macbeth, is a thane in Scotland who after a battle meets three witches who grant him three prophecies, one is of the title that he already held, another is of a position he would receive moments later, and the last most lofty one is that Macbethshall become king. The first two predictions create credibility for the third, and with this third prediction made it would seem that Macbeth has been stripped of any decision and is forced to assert himself as king through murder. The third prediction in particular creates the greatest evidence that Macbeth is acting on the witches prophecies because he must, but when the situation is further inspected it becomes clear that the evil acts he commits are of his own free will, and examples of this can be found in three murders he either commits himself or hires murderers for: the murder of the king, the murder of one of his friends, and the murder of a man s entire family. The first of the heinous crimes that Macbeth commits is by far the most monumental, and that is the murder of the king of Scotland, Duncan. From the witches first set of predictions that Macbeth, shalt be king hereafter, (Shakespeare I.3.71 72) it would seem that Macbeth s hands were tied and he had no choice but to kill his king, but in reality the witches don t say this anywhere in their first predictions. The definition and border of the class of coordinating compounds involves two issues: initially, what a compound is and how can we distinguish coordinative compounds from alternative multiword expressions; second, the understanding of what coordination is, and the way it s to be distinguished from alternative, non symmetrical relations (e.g. subordination). The major breakthrough occurred once Alfred Werner put forward in 1893 that Co(III) bears six ligands in an octahedral geometry. His theory permits one to grasp the distinction between coordinated and ionic in a compound, for instance chloride within the cobalt ammine chlorides and to clarify several of the earlier unexplainable isomers. In 1914, Werner resolved the first coordination complex, known as hexol, into optical isomers, overthrowing the idea that solely carbon compounds may possess chirality. Introduction Coordination compound is a compound formed from a Lewis acid and a BrГёnsted base , a Lewis acid being an electron pair acceptor and a BrГёnsted base a proton acceptor. One might think that since as Calculus students, we are using the most advanced and contemporary functions of calculus, it s useless to look back and see what people did before us. However, there are several reasons why looking at the historical background of Calculusis important. As the lecture stated, the main reasons why the historyof Calculus is important is that it opens our, being the students, eyes. It opens our eyes to the motivation behind historical Calculus scholars. It opens our eyes to how we can organize Calculus results. It opens our eyes to the human and personal aspects of the people who developed calculus. Finally, it opens our eyes to the link between faith and mathematics. In this historical discussion of the definite integral, we will look at several of the founding fathers of this concept. To begin, the first organized attempt at computing an exact computation of a mathematically defined area was made by Eudoxus. These chemical signals are the reason for many factor including why one s arms are the same length, why one can turn food into a viable fuel, and why one grows through puberty. Hormones are indicative of changes in target cells by binding to hormone receptors. In this way, even though hormones circulate throughout the body and meet different cell types, they only affect cells that possess the necessary receptors. Receptors of a specific hormone can be found on different cells or a small number of specialized cells. Per www.pbs.com/ the thyroid hormones act on different tissue types, stimulating metabolic activity throughout the body. Cells can have receptors for the identical hormone, but often also possess receptors for different types of hormones. The number of receptors that respond to a hormone determines the cell s sensitivity to a specific hormone. The number of receptors that respond to a hormone can change over time, resulting in increasing or decreasing the cell s sensitivity. Often in up regulation, the number of receptors increases to rising hormone levels, making the cell more sensitive to the hormone. Down regulation describes when a cell is decreasing the quantity of a cellular component. When the cells respond to a hormone, they express a specific receptor for that specific hormone. Where Worlds Collide By Pico Iyer Where Worlds Collide is an essay by Pico Iyer who talks about the expectations and reality of Los Angeles through the perspectives of travelers from different backgrounds. In Where Worlds Collide, Pico Iyer argues that even though Los Angeles is depicted as a vicinity to receive wealth, happiness, and many opportunities it is actually the antithesis, and instead, many harsh prejudice and unending craziness will occur instead; Iyer argues this by using allusions, anaphoras, and juxtapositions to help convey what he is saying. In the beginning of this passage, Iyer starts off with a lively and narrative tone to introduce a biblical allusion in the first paragraph; Iyer explains how many travelers come out from the airplane to reach their final destination, the Promised Land. This allusion sparks an interest to the readers because Iyer is referring to the Los Angeles International Airport as the Promised Land. Throughout the essay, Iyer refers to the LAX as the Land of Opportunity Iyer is using these two allusions to help paint a picture of what the LAX means to these naive travelers, a place filled with hopes and dreams. These allusions help correspond to the jubilance of the author s tone and helps keep the writing capture the author s passion about his story. Later in Iyer s passage, he uses anaphoras to help solidify the hectic attributes of the LAX, which contradicts the supposed Promised Land. Iyer describes how the second thing that the travelers see is that [i]n front of them is a Van Stop, a Bus Stop, a Courtesy Tram Stop, and a Shuttle Bus Stop... (101). The repetition of stop is utilized to show that all of these stops are bombarding their way through towards the travelers just as if everything is going out of control. Iyer includes more anaphoras as he talks about how [t]hey have already braved the ranks of Asian officials, the criminal looking security men in jackets... These four young boys are forced to mature and deal with adult situations such as death, neglect, abuse, and peer pressure. Friendships are depicted as temporary but yet eternal. Everything was there and around us. We knew exactly who we were and exactly where we were going. It was
  • 47. Characteristics Of Feral Pigs Feral Pigs By Jessica Hollitt Feral pigs were introduced by the early European settlers in 1788. Pigs were used as domesticated companions of the Europeans as they moved around Australia. After time, these animals escaped from captivity and their population began to increase dramatically. Feral pigs have a huge negative impact on the native vegetation, environment and agriculture. They have very destructive habits when feeding and foraging. They can cause erosion of soil and fouling of watering points with their wallowing. Feral pigs need satisfactory supplies of food and water and enough shelter for protection against extremes of temperature. Feral pigs can be found in areas with these conditions including rainforests, monsoon forest patches, paperbark swamps, open flood plains, marsh areas, semi arid flood plains, dry woodlands and subalpine grasslands and forests. They are a medium to large sized animal with a short stubby snout, sported by a short neck. The body of a feral pig is rounded. They have small eyes, and large ears with points. Feral pigs are four legged animals with four toes of each foot. Their tail is generally curled or straight covered with hair and they are covered in fur and have very thick skin which helps to insulate their body temperature. Feral pigs are omnivores, preferring succulent green vegetation, fruit, grain, and a wide variety of animal meat including, frogs, reptiles, birds, small mammals; and carrion. They also feed on underground plants such as root, bulbs, corms, and fungi. As a result of fossicking for food. The vast diet of feral pigs can cause severe environmental damage to vegetation. Feral pigs can also cause erosion of soil and damage to the native species of animals and vegetation. The requirement of protein and energy in a pig s diet is very high. This is needed for breeding, successful lactation and growth of young. Feral pigs restrict their activities to cool parts of the day such as dusk and dawn. Throughout hot weather, pigs become primarily nocturnal, and in cooler weather the inactivity is generally throughout the middle of the day. Feral pigs create and use trails to easily travel to and from places such
  • 48. Linguistic Relativity Essay Introduction: Linguistic relativity is the notion that language can affect our thought processes, and is often referred to as the Sapir Whorf hypothesis , after the two linguists who brought the idea into the spotlight. Whorf writes how Language is not merely a reproducing instrument for voicing ideas but rather is itself the shaper of ideas, the program and guide for the individual s mental activity (1956:212), and I will explain how it is able to do so. In this essay I will argue that certain ways of mental categorization, spatial cognition and reality interpretation, based on the characteristics of our specific variety of language, influence our perception of the world. I will discuss how languages divide up nature differently, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dirven and Verspoor note how the English differentiation is entirely forced on these children by the contrast between the English prepositions in and on (1998:140), whereas in Korean, Kkita (glossable loosely as fit ...) is indifferent to whether the Figure goes into, onto, over, or together with the Ground, as long as it leads to a tight fit (Choi and Bowerman 1991:90). The fact that the tested children grouped the actions in accordance with the grammatical structure of their respective language is evidence for linguistic relativity, as both groups of children construe(d) the relations between objects in the world on the basis of their language specific categories, and not on the basis of some universal, conceptual categories (Dirven and Verspoor 1998:140 141). This suggests that the children from the two linguistic communities will partly see the world in a different way, being inclined to categorise the things they see in contrasting fashions. Certain features are deemed important enough to warrant a category, and different languages prioritise different qualities. What this means is that when we say something belongs to a certain set, e.g. that putting toys into a container falls into an in group, we are focussing on some, but neglecting other details of the situation, such as the tightness of the fit. The framework of our language
  • 49. Documentation in Sadsign 1.0 Introduction 2.1 Background of the Study It all started when four visionaries conceptualized setting up a training center to fill very specific manpower needs. It was in the early 80s when Augusto C. Lagman, Herman T. Gamboa, Benjamin A. Santos, and Edgar H. Sarte four entrepreneurs came together to set up Systems Technology Institute (STI), a training center that delivers basic programming education to professionals and students who want to learn this new skill. Systems Technology Institute s name came from countless brainstorming sessions among the founders, perhaps from Sarte s penchant for three letter acronyms from the companies he managed at the time. The first two schools were inaugurated in August 21, 1983 in Buendia, ... • 50. The Pros And Cons Of Invading North Korea If the United States were to become a real empire tomorrow, I would hope the leaders of our empire would invade North Korea. North Korea is one of he United States most feared threats. Invading North Korea would make the United States as a whole, feel more protected or secure. Many reasons come to mind when thinking about invading North Koreasuch as, nuclear bomb threats, partial benefit towards North Korea, and the advantages and disadvantages. Nuclear bomb threats to the United States, I believe, is the main reason invading them would be the best idea. In my opinion, I don t think North Korea s nuclear bombs have the right requirements to hit the United States, but they are still a treat. North Korea may say they have the technology and
  • 51. Comparing Blackberry-Picking And Digging In his poems Blackberry Picking and Digging, Seamus Heaney unveils many events of his childhood along with his own feelings about his past. As a naive child, Heaney reveals many simple and paradoxical emotions in the two poems written in the voice of his youth. Just like any other boy from a countryside, Seamus Heaney portrays feelings of pure excitement and joy in Blackberry Picking. The length of the stanzas tell the readers how much he is looking forward to the day when the berries will ripen (a longer description is made of the process of waiting and picking the blackberries), and when a glossy purple clot appears among others, red, green, hard as a knot, Heaney finally starts to get ready. An image is created where he is running around and calling his friends to join him in picking blackberries. Also, the readers can almost feel the blackberries, which are still quite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The title of the poem Digging is very collective of Heaney s past and repetition is used to emphasize the title. Heaney s father and grandfather had owned a farm, but he had chosen not to follow their routes, instead preferring to become a poet. As he recalls his childhood, some memories are in more detail than others (the irregular stanzas). The poem ends with Heaney saying Between my finger and my thumb the squat pen rests. I ll dig with it. This line itself is a repetition of the first few lines of the poem, and an image is created where Heaney is sitting on his desk, bringing his past back to life on paper. Again, he expresses feelings of guilt and regret as he claims that he will still continue on the family business, but though digging with his pen instead. Heaney doesn t want to become a farmer; however, he digs with his squad pen, remembering the olden days when he used to love watching and helping his father and grandfather,
  • 52. American Psycho vs. Wall Street The Reagan 80s , a Wall Street bull market and excess for the sake of excess. During this decade, the economy was coming out of a severe recession after 1982 and it exploded shortly thereafter. It seemed out of nowhere, people were getting rich by investing in the stock market. The 80 s was the decade of the corporate raiders. Powerful, money hungry investors would buy companies when their values were on the line and dismantle them, selling off the assets piece by piece and becoming filthy rich off of it. Clearly, these investors had to have had the education and long career in the financial industry in order to have the knowledge to pull off maneuvers like this. This whole idea of excess that ran rampant in the 80s leads us to ask... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was the victim of the burgeoning culture of the politically correct. I had more money than I knew what to do with. It was the year of being hated. Wall Street has been touted as one of the most accurate portrayals of Wall Street culture and recently spawned a sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. The character of Gordon Gekko and his obsession with greed is still prevalent today, especially during the fall of Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns in 2008. Many of the executives of those firms as well as Wall Street executives in general were referred to as being the Gordon Gekkos of our generation. Most news coverage regarding government intervention in the economy has been about Wall Street intervention as of the past few years. There are so many events in American Psycho that have been left open to interpretation, but the most popular being that Bret Easton Ellis was commenting on morality within society and its obsession with vanity and greed. Wall Street is a much more straightforward text which shows the deep roots of greed in the business world. Oliver Stone modeled Gekko after several notorious Wall Street executives who were arrested for trading scandals as well as his father (who was a stock broker) and himself. Both characters (Gordon Gekko and Patrick Bateman) were developed so that they have no redeeming qualities (especially Patrick Bateman). One of the big controversies over American Psycho was how Bateman
  • 53. Children Of A Child Protection Process Essay There are a number of different organisations that may be involved when a young person or child has been abused or harmed. This includes health visitors, GP s, the police, schools, the NSPCC, psychologists, school nurses and probation workers. Health visitors have a vital role in protecting children from harm and abuse because they are one of the first to recognise children who are likely to be abused or neglected. They play a big part in all stages of a child protection process including case reviews. They support and guide parents of young children, provide developmental checks on children under the age of five, have contact with many multi agencies and they support the work of the Local Safeguarding Children s Board (LSCB). They are trained to a high level to recognise any risks that the child might be in and also they will visit the children at home. They are in a position to gather information from very early on and therefore this enables them to start the process quite quickly when any signs or concerns of abuse or neglect are detected. The health visitor will need to have ongoing contact with the family if abuse or neglect is suspected. Health visitors should use their own judgement on when to share information with other agencies. The role of a General Practitioner is to maintain their skills in recognising if a child is being abused or neglected. They need to follow all correct procedures if abuse or neglect is suspected. All GP s should have regular training and
