The Art of Competition for College Students
During our daily routine, we see many different individuals. We can only wonder where they
come from, who they are, and what they are doing here. Unfortunately, people tend to forget who
are around them because our eyes are solely glued onto a small screen or too distracted by the
sounds of music pulsating through their ears. People nowadays are fixated on discovering what
their purpose is. By being a college student, you are entitled to just studying and doing well in
school because we all want a great job later on. The pressure of competition comes into play and
how it is so difficult to pursue a career knowing that another individualcan have it. The
requirements that are expected from people develop into more self seeking individuals.
Competition for having a career becomes very stressful and exhausting. Long hours of studying,
restless nights are all attributes of what a college student goes through. With California alone, there
is an unemployment rate of 8.9% as of August 2013. Fear just forms within a student s mind when
they think about what their future may consist of. Questions run through their mind of whether or
not they will ever be in that unemployment rate or will a career lead them to never landing in that
percentage. People are like ants carrying the leaves or stuff found along the way towards their
central home. (Anderson and Figueroa) Ants have a direct purpose. Students are very similar where
they are buying books to study or carrying that notebook

Daniel Evans Adaptation Of The Play The Seagull
The Seagull
The Seagull is a Queensland Theatre Company production, written by Anton Chekhov in 1869,
adapted and directed by Daniel Evans. The play has been adapted from its original Russian setting
to fit the modern Australian context. Changes were made to the language of the script, but the
characters remained virtually the same through their plight against unhappiness. Through the
manipulation of symbol, tension, and language, Daniel Evans adaptation utilises the unique
conventions of post dramatic theatre to help realise the play s dramatic meaning. The Seagull
focuses on the character s perpetuating sense of misery while searching for fulfilment. It captures
the reality that, in love and life, you choose your own misery.

Though language each character tried to define life and their struggle in hope of controlling it. In
one scene, Masha in her drunken state unmasks her true emotions and declares her love for
Konstantin, upon rejection she proclaims the meaninglessness of life without love and how in the
end the only result of it is misery. Her pretence of having a callous exterior was to masks the
underling pain that she is unable to deal with. Dim lighting accentuated the foreboding mood of
misery and her off centre positioning on stage underpinned the neglect of sympathy she was
receiving from other characters, most importantly Konstantin, due to the seemingly unimportance
of her character. At the pinnacle of emotional pretence, Irina as a character constantly maintains a
façade of extravagance. Upon returning to the lake, she vociferates the perfection of her life and
career, but moments later runs off stage and sobs in despair. The use of split staging depicts Irina s
battling emotions and her fear of showing emotional sincerity least it enhances her vulnerability.
Throughout the play the seagull is a recurring motif and appears in peaks of tension in the play. In
this case it reinforces the theme of the existentialism revealing the characters denial of their misery
and unwillingness to change their

above average grades when I ll have sixes, sevens, and eights. I set high expectations so I push
myself harder to reach to my goal, that makes me land perfectly where I want to be, in between
where I started and my expectation. I also have set a goal to read 30 minutes every night. Granted
last year I did read almost every night, I wouldn t read the other days. So I would like to read
everyday by setting a time period for each night so I can have my 30 minutes of reading in each
night. This will allow me to be superior at reading longer books knowing that if I can read a certain
amount of pages in 30 minutes, I will be able to find out how quickly I can accomplish a long
book. Which also will benefit me read and achieve a large amount of books at a time.

The Racist Movement
To what extent was the rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 due to Mussolini?
The rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 was largely due to Mussolini himself. It is
worthwhile to examine the consequences of government inefficiency, the growth of the socialist
movement, the support of others as an enabling factor, but his leadership allowed the fascist party
to be relevant, and to take advantage of these other conditions. Though trasformismo and socialism
did destabilise Italian society, it was nevertheless Mussolini who offered solutions; though he
assumed control of the country through Victor Emmanuel s assent, it was him who created
alliances to maintain the position. Thus, Mussolini s opportunist outlook and his command ... Show

In the countryside, the Labour Leagues, a form of rural trade union, was powerful enough to take
control of local governments in areas such as Tuscany and Emilia. In response, the squadristi
attacked the socialist leagues, encouraged by landowners and large farmers, natural supporters of
the fascist movement. By late 1920, landlords and industrialists even began paying for their terror,
thus providing financial support for the fascist party. As a result, right wing violence became
tolerated and normalised, allowing it to breach Italian society. Inevitably, Mussolini s leadership
once again proved to be significant, though he was not directly in control of their activity. He took
credit for their role as protectors, and shifted the position of the fascist programme to be more
conservative, in accordance to the public mood. His pragmatic attitude meant that the fascist
programme was less important than its spirit the heroes and defenders against the red threat .
Middle class voters also had cause to support fascism in its new direction, since the government
was perceived to be too lenient with socialism an example being the Occupation of the Factories in
September 1920. In fact, anyone who owned property, or was better off than an urban worker
found appeal in fascism, as it now represented anti communism, patriotism, but above all, action. It
is true that the ras had more direct control of the squadristi, but Mussolini was the leader who
united their causes to take advantage of the socialist threat that divided Italian society by widening

Mexico is a country of diverse populations. This is seen in its culture, government, and history.
Mexico gained its independence from Spanish rule in 1821 following the victory against the
Spanish forces that were in Mexico. Mexico has a government that is similar to the United States.
Mexico is a federal republic that has executive, judicial, and legislative branches (World Book

The Aztec empire fell when their leader Montezuma II let the Spanish into the capital. The Aztec
people revolted against the Spanish conquistador, Hernan Cortes killing hundreds of Spaniards
living within the city. Later, the Spanish brought more soldiers and invaded the rest of the Aztec
empire (World Book Online).
Once the Spaniards were in control of the colonies the Spanish king made the Amerindians pay
tribute, convert to Catholicism, and work for the Spaniards when help was needed. Although Spain
imposed many laws onto the citizens it allowed the natives to continue to speak their own
languages to help prevent revolt. The Europeans brought many diseases along with them such as
small pox. As a result, about 24,000,000 indigenous people died (World Book Online).
In the wake of the loss of the indigenous peoples two new races of people came to power; the
creoles and the mestizos. They were the product of indigenous peoples bred with Europeans. Later
on, the Spanish introduced about 200,000 African slaves to help perform work in the area that is

How Does Maus Conform To Art Spiegelman
Art Spiegelman s genre transcending work
Maus is a graphic novel by Art Spiegelman, serialized from 1980 to 1991. It tells the story of Art
Spiegelman s father, Vladek, a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor; it tells the story of the
relationship between Art and his father, complicated by his father s Holocaust trauma; and Maus
tells the story of the relationship between Art and his artwork. A remarkable work, Maus is for
sure. Not only is the use of a comic book format daring for a horrible topic as the Holocaust, Maus
also defies definition in terms of genre. A biography, memoir, autobiography, history, or a mix of
genres? Fiction or non fiction? Maus remains rather unclassifiable.
This critical essay will discuss whether Maus conforms to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Fonte et al in 2006 [3] Suggested that Most of catastrophic mechanical failures in power rotor
shafts occur under cyclic bending combined with steady torsion: Mode I (О”KI) combined with
Mode III (KIII). An analysis of the influence of steady torsion loading on fatigue crack growth
rates in shafts is presented for short as well as long cracks. Long cracks growth tests have been
carried out on cylindrical specimens in DIN Ck45k steel for two types of testing: rotary or
alternating bending combined with steady torsion in order to simulate real conditions on power
rotor shafts. The growth and shape evolution of semi elliptical surface cracks, starting from the
cylindrical specimen surface, has been measured for several loading conditions and both testing
types. Short crack growth tests have been carried out on specimens of the same material DIN
Ck45k, under alternating bending combined with steady torsion. The short crack growth rates
obtained are compared with long crack growth rates. Results have shown a significant reduction
of the crack growth rates when a steady torsion Mode III is superimposed to cyclic Mode I. A 3D
Finite Element analysis has also shown that Stress Intensity Factor values at the corner crack
surface depend on the steady torsion value and the direction of the applied torque. Citarella et al in

Figurative Language In Jeanne Duprau s The City Of Ember
In Jeanne DuPrau s book The City of Ember it takes place in a very dark city without power or
electricity and nobody s happy. And when two kids are presented with the opportunity to help
save their city and risk their lives, they are the ones who want to do so. They go on this journey
and hit many obstacles on the way but they have the mindset to never give up and it may or may
not help them. One theme that can be supported throughout the book is that when someone risks
their life for others they can earn great respect from other people and other peers.
The theme in the story The City of Ember is shown early on in the book and it is represented by
using author s craft. The author s craft that is being used in the book is figurative language, such
as similes and metaphors. She uses figurative language in many different ways that can support
the theme. For example Fear had settled over the city. Lina felt it like a cold chill (Duprau 85).
This is a good example of figurative language and it also supports the theme. This is a good
example, because it is describing how bad the city is and also how Lina realized she needed to
take charge in saving the city. Duprau also uses another good example of figurative language
towards the beginning also. For instance it states in the book Once they are out the door, Lizzie
said goodbye and scurried away as if Linas bad luck were a disease that she might catch (Duprau
58). This is a good representation because it is leading up to the

Psychology of Terrorist Group Recruitment Essay
Psychology of terrorist group recruitment
Introduction
Terrorism is one of the greatest threats facing humanity in the modern society. There has been an
increase in the number of terrorist organizations and terror attacks that are conducted by groups in
pursuit of divergent ideologies (Burleigh, 2009). Since the 9/11 terror attacks in the United States,
terrorism has been recognized as a serious problem that calls for a global and coordinated response
by governments across the world. Many countries have invested heavily in intelligence gathering
and purchase of hardware and technology needed to detect and neutralize terrorist attacks. However,
this has not stopped the threat faced from terrorism and these attacks continue unabated ... Show

Some of these forms of recruitment will be briefly discussed below;
Public and proximate This is the first form of terrorist recruitment and in this case, recruitment is
performed face to face in a place that is visible to authorities and the general public (Reich, 1998).
It may be done in refugee camps, prisons and large scale wartime occurrences such as occupations
and others. The terrorist group recruiters usually target small groups or individuals who are prime
candidates for recruitment. This form of recruitment occurs regardless of opposition from the
authority due to fear of polarizing the attitudes of the audience, inadequate legislation, or political
sensitivity among others factors (Reich, 1998).
Public and mediated This is another form of terrorist group recruitment and it is usually broader and
resembles propaganda. In this recruitment method, mass media is utilized, such as televised
advertisements for groups that are within reach of the government and legislation (Reich, 1998). It
may also include media channels and websites whose domain names and passwords are in the
public domain. The terrorist groups that use this strategy usually target regional demographic or
population strata including young teenagers who usually gather at a particular place or members of
a unique religious congregation (Reich, 1998). This method of recruitment is usually indirect since
physical communication may not be sustainable or

Examples Of Editing In Run Lola Run
The 1998 German film Run Lola Run interestingly told three separate narratives of the same story
and characters. Each of the narratives began the same way, however each one saw a slight
temporal or behavioral difference in the lives of Lola and Manni, which caused drastically different
outcomes for each of the separate realities. The filmfollowed Lola and Manni s journey to acquire
one hundred thousand dollars to make up for Manni s loss of the money to his drug dealer. The
same story was told three separate times, and each story illustrated slight changes in the characters
timelines that drastically shifted the outcome of their situations. Through the use of editing, the
film was able to jump through time and space and clearly portray the transition from one run to the
next. The film also had a fast rhythm that captured the frantic nature and peril of Lola and Manni s
situation, with innovative editing techniques such as showing the two shots of Manni and Lola side
by side. Altogether, the transitions were effective in telling the story with a unique, and clear
sequencing pattern that made sense and contributed to the thrilling atmosphere of the film. Editing

Aaron Copland Music Analysis
Aaron Copland is a twentieth century American composer, teacher, and conductor. Schuman
(1980), refers to Copland as the Dean of American Composers , which he attributes to his stylistic
contributions to American culture including film. His works includes songs, chamber music,
ballets, theater, symphony orchestra, solos, and chorus. Copland s approach to composing
included twelve tone, a basic exhibition of serialism. Crawford Hamberlin (2013), describe this
style as organizing twelve pitches of the chromatic scale into a unique pattern. This method
expressed a way of organizing notes freely, without focusing on a key center. To non musical ears,
the atonality heard is interpreted as strange, exotic, or in some cases esthetically pleasing. Copland
s musical influence includes his time in Paris during the 1920 s with Stravinsky, a Russian
Nationalist. Stravinsky s style was inclusive of traditional Russian folk music, evident in his ballet
Petrushka (Navarro 2011).
Copland composed Outdoor Overture in 1938, as a request from Alexander Richter, Director of
Music at the High School of Music and Arts in New York City. Pease (2015), attributes the
inspiration behind this composition from Richter s campaign: American Music for American
Youth. The score (APPENDIX A), shares program notes, along with an extended synopsis of the
piece. The basis for Outdoor Overture, is a theme expressed initially by the upper woodwinds and
strings (APPENDIX B). The idea is introduced

And finally, viewers are able to connect to films stronger as they view the scenes firsthand with
many people rather than reading them on their own, enabling the viewer to envision herself/himself
in the shoes of Northup or the other characters.
Movies are a larger medium than books, and thus more people are able to watch the movie.
From the large scale on which they are made, the promotion and branding, the huge releases
worldwide, and the way in which the action comes alive in front of our eyes; films reach a much
larger audience than the readers of any book. One of the major reasons for the screen
adaptations of books is just the same. Most people are not avid readers, and may not go through
each and every book in the market. However, there are gems of books that convey a range of
emotions, and also address major issues. The non readers miss out on these priceless treasures. It
is then, the movies, come into picture. Movies, starring good actors, and promoted well have a
definite pull for the public, at large. The people, who are not into books, can actually watch the

Heracles And The Nemean Lion Essay
Created just a century or so later than the Pseudo Apollodorus accounts in the Bibliotheca 2, this
mosaic titled Heracles the Nemean Lion was created in the third century C.E. Located in the
National Archeological Museum of Spain, neither the catalog number for the museum or the
Beazley Archive number are given. More than 700 years had passed since the creation of figures 1
4, and the story is still the same. Although in this mosaic, Heraclesis standing up and strangling the
lion, not on the ground. Heracles is also still naked, not having obtained his armor, which would
come from that very lion. This is a mosaic found in a roman context. Meaning that the transition
from prominently Greek society to one shared, and later taken over, with Rome kept the legend of
Heracles very close to what it had become, even when crossing cultural lines.
Present day of the legend of Heracles, using the roman version Hercules, still has not changed.
With the twelve athlois still being present, the first being the Nemean lion, the legend has stayed
true. In the 2014 remake of Hercules starring Dwayne Johnson, it describes the first athloi, the
Nemean lion. The movie does include the description that the lion was in a cave and Hercules did

Theme Of Magic Realism In The Mistress Of Spices
In this present technologically superfast world, where the click of buttons is changing the way
people think, plan and execute their works and live their lives, virtual reality , surrealism , hyper
reality are the terms in vogue. They are so commonly used everywhere that they may not seem
fanciful any more. However, the excitement in superstitions, magic and mysticism still prevails.
India has always caught the imagination of foreigners as the land of hidden secrets it is viewed as
a hub of cosmic energy and emerging super power. The secret of Ayurvedas, the variety and depth
in art forms like dance and music are equally attractive as Kamasutra and Yoga. The co existence of

Magic realism is intermingling of reality with fantasy or imagination with the use of folk lore,
fables, and mythological stories in such a way which captures the sensation of the audience in

Accomodating the Increasing Inmate Population
Accomodating the Increasing Inmate Population
In August 1994, the California Department of Corrections released its annual five year facilities
master plan for new prison construction. This plan, usually submitted to the Legislature earlier in
the calendar year, was delayed so that the additional need for new prison beds resulting from the
recently enacted Three Strikes and You re Out legislation could be incorporated into the plan. The
facilities plan is based on the department s spring 1994 population estimate that estimated a total
of 246,000 inmates by June 1999. This projection was recently revised to 211,000, 35,000 fewer
inmates. There are several reasons for this reduction, as shown in Figure 1 and discussed below....

This equals the increase that the state prison system incurred over the past ten years. The state s
prisons, however, fall far short of having space to accommodate this projected growth in inmate
population.
New Prison Needs
The state s existing prisons were designed to house 66,000 inmates (one inmate per prison cell). As
of September 1994, however, the prisons housed 120,000 inmates, resulting in an average
overcrowding level of 182 percent. (Another 5,000 inmates are housed in community correctional
centers that are operated by either private organizations, cities, or counties.) Additional prisons
designed to house 14,000 inmates have been funded and are either under construction or ready for
occupancy. When these new prisons are completed (around 1998) the design capacity of the state s
prisons will total 80,000.
Figure 2 shows recent and projected overcrowding levels in the state prison system based on the
scheduled completion of all authorized prisons. As shown in the figure, prison overcrowding
increased from about 140 percent in June 1983 to around 180 percent in June 1990 and has
remained fairly close to that level over the last four years as additional prisons have been
opened. Based on the CDC s fall 1994 population projections, unless more prisons are built,
overcrowding in the prisons will increase significantly over the next five years and will reach 256
percent in mid 1999 nearly three inmates for each space designed to

Health Science Librarians Essay
Librarians have always worked with information, but the question of whether or not librarians
should get involved with big data has not always been an easy one to answer. On the other hand,
since most health care researchers are subject specialists and have limited data science skills, most
librarians in the healthsciences realize they do need to become involved in it. That they have to
provide health care researchers with as much help and information as they can. Consequently, the
real question for them should be exactly how they need to be involved. Health sciences librarians
realize they can fill many roles in health care s use of big data, but since some roles librarians

Therefore, librarians need to provide information on how to write such a plan, information about
where researchers can deposit data affordably that works well with new data and old data, and
what are the best practices for sharing their data, including how to get the data ready for ingest

metadata standards to their data sets. For health sciences libraries with limited resources, much of
this information could be provided online using libguides or even web links.
When working with big data researchers are also finding themselves needing information how
to work with visualization tools. Many have never used these tools before and if health sciences
libraries can offer space and training on equipment and software to their researchers then they
will have both access to them and a chance to learn to use them. However, not every health
sciences library will be able to provide equipment and software for them, but most could provide
information on where to find training and possibly a list of local locations with access. In
addition, health sciences libraries could also provide training courses on R and Python directly to
their researchers or information on local or web based courses.
Finally, one of the other major ways that health sciences

Similarities Between Alexander The Great And Julius Caesar
Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar
Of the classical civilizations of Greece and Rome came the leaders Alexander the Great and
Julius Caesar. They are still inspiring the world today because of their legacy that they left
behind, that include how they each obtain their power, how they ruled over their people, and
success and failures of each. Alexander the Great was the son of King Philip II who obtained his
power over the kingdom of Macadamia when his father was assassinated in 336 B.C. He would
later go on to complete his father s dreaming of invading and controlling the Persian Empire. He
did not stop there, however, Alexander the Great would take control over most of the Middle East.

He was also responsible for much of the Greek influence that we see today. His failures laid in the
way that he took in account the feelings and opinions of his army. He forced them to walk through
a desert as punishment but later on proved to be his grave. One of Julius Caesar s biggest success
was taking over Rome and proclaiming himself emperor, although not directly. Julius Caesar had to
work hard to climb up the political ladder to get to the top. Once there, Pompey tried to sway him
to go back to a private citizen, he refused and marched his army to Rome. He built Rhine Bridge
in only ten days, another major success, and threw Pompey out of power. Although Julius Caesar
was determined to obtain power, once he got it, it didn t last for much. His biggest failure was not
listening to his advisors of the assassination that was bound to happen. That one mistake is what
not only cost his life, but the power that he worked so hard to obtain. Both rulers achieved success
of ruling a massive empire but they failed in terms of being too proud and stubborn, which

Limbic Dopaminergic System
Limbic dopaminergic system, a part of brain reward circuit, is the main target of morphine like
drugs and all drugs of abuse (Wise and Bozarth 1984). Brain reward and motivation circuit begins
from the ventral tegmental area (VTA) at the top of brainstem that sends its dopaminergic
projections to the various regions of brainincluding nucleus accumbens (NAc), amygdala
(Ghalandari Shamami, Hassanpour Ezatti et al. 2011), hippocampus and prefrontal cortex

from other regions of the brains including GABAergic neurons of the NAc which send their
inhibitory projections to the VTA (Koob 1992).

Renaissance Love in Tristan and Iseult Essay
Renaissance Love in Tristan and Iseult
The modern concept of love owes a great deal to the Humanist tradition of the Renaissance. The
humanists focused on perfection and exaltation of this life as opposed to the afterlife. In Tristan
and Iseult the seeds of Renaissance love are present in the Middle Ages. To the modern eye, it is a
mystery how the period of the Middle Ages produced the seeds of the diametrically opposite
Renaissance. Yet it is necessary to understand this transformation if one is to fully comprehend the
forces that helped produce the modern consciousness. Courtly Love is a transitional concept that
emerged in the Middle Ages. It is transitional because it emerged early and acknowledges God as
the creator of love, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The individual is nothing compared to the needs of the community. Tristanis even willing to give
Iseult the Fair to King Mark: for the life of King Mark, did Tristan by guile and by force conquer
the Queen of the hair of gold (37). Tristan is everything a lord could want in a vassal. Yet it is not
Tristan s love for King Mark that is what he is remembered for, but his love for Iseult, which is
portrayed as higher than the feudal system. The love between Tristan and Iseult clearly violates
the social conventions of the Middle Ages. When he falls in love with Iseult, Tristan s initial
reaction concerns his duty to King Mark, Iseult is yours and I am but your vassal; Iseult is
yours and I am your son; Iseult is yours and may not love me (43). Thankfully, the Love potion
that Tristan drinks excuses him from his duty to the king. It is necessary in the Middle Ages to
assure that Tristan is not being disloyal. The purity of the love is strengthened by the fact that
God sanctifies it, love dropped upon them from high heaven (57). This Love is God given and
therefore excused from the restrictions of feudal society. This mirrors the Humanist belief that
man was created in God s image, thus it is a form of worship to revere man. After Tristan and
Iseult have fallen in love, they exhibit all of the virtues that the Humanists of the Renaissance
admired. They focus on the joys of this life instead of focusing on death and the afterlife. When

Comparison Of Betrayal In Fahrenheit 451
In class, we read this book called Fahrenheit 451. In this book, there is a character named Guy
Montag. He is a fireman, but, in this universe, they burn down houses instead of saving them from
fire. He goes on with his life like normal until he meets a girl named Clarrise who changes
everything he once thought. We also watched a movie called The Truman Show. This movie is
about a guy named Truman Burbank who lives in a normal world where everything is the same.
Then he starts learning more about this perfect world and begins to become curious. I find that both
of these characters are the same because they both get betrayed, they go with the flow, and act
irrationally throughout their stories. The first reason I find both Guy Montagand Truman Burbank
alike is the fact that they both get betrayed. In Fahrenheit 451by Ray Bradbury, Montag s house gets
called in to be burned down because he had books. When he asked who turned in the call, he
learns that his own wife, Mildred, was the one who called. Mildred was too frightened by these
books to care about her own home being burned to ashes. She betrayed Montag, leaving him with
nothing. In The Truman Show, Truman Burbank is betrayed on multiple occasions. Truman was
talking with his best friend, Marlon, about how he began to think that the world revolved around
him when Marlon said something along the lines of, I would never lie to you. Because they are
best friends, Truman believes his lie. Marlon is just an actor, so

This shows that Gatsby seems to strangely disappear from Nick s view, and with Nick unaware
of who Jay Gatsby legitimately, this gives the character an aura of mystery. Gatsby is a

example when Nick and Jordan attend on of Gatsby s great parties Nick begins to ask Jordan
questions about Gatsby where is he from, I mean? And what does he do? Now you re started on
the subject (Fitzgerald 53). This shows that nobody fully understands who Gatsby truly is, and that
although many people participate at his parties, no one really knows who the host actually is,

Jay Gatsby, the main character of F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, is also described as a
man who seemed to do anything to get what he wants, however even though what he wants he

makes Gatsby seem as a stubborn man who is stubbornly in love. Gatsby shows stubbornness

Contributions Of Plato And Aristotle
Aristotle and Plato were philosophers in ancient Greece who searchingly studied matters of ethics,
science, politics, and more. Though many more of Plato s works survived throughout the centuries,
Aristotle s contributions have arguably been more influential, particularly when it comes to science
and logical reasoning. While both philosophers works are considered less theoretically valuable in
modern times, they continue to have great historical value.
Both Aristotle and Plato believed in these shared principles: harmony, organic approach (society
functions as an organism), natural approach, politics and morals, they believed that humans are
social creatures, and they believed in the functioning of the state and its citizens.
Plato and Aristotle believed that democracy is a corrupt form of government because it violates
justice of proportionality. The idea of proportional justice attains when we ask who is the most
deserving. For example, who should have the best flute, Aristotle answered that the best flute must
be not given to the richest man or to the most handsome man, but given to the best flute player.
Being in the position of governing is an honor. So who should have the honor? Plato and Aristotle

Case Study Of Magners
Magners is the brand owned by Irish drinks company C C Group and in 2003 they began to look
at the possibility of launching their brand in the UK with an eye on London in particular.
Industry specialists had warned the company that cider was a declining market which had little
or no potential, as cider was viewed as a summer only drink or something that first time drinkers,
students and alcoholics drank. Magners had other ideas they wanted to create a new premium
brand vintage cider that placed a premium on the idea of time and heritage as well as its unique
selling point, which was its service (a pint of Magners from the bottle was to be poured over
ice). This was used to establish a point of differentiation in the UK cider market. It offered the
consumer added value from both a premium drinking experience as well as a prolonged
enjoyment of the beverage. Creative agency Young Euro RSCG came up with the seasons

Realism In The Lumiere Brothers
Realism is the artistic attempt to recreate life as it is in the context of an artistic medium. It began
as a revolt against the conventions of the classic view of art in the late 1800s in America and
Europe in the form of an artistic movement (McConnel, R. 1997). There are many themes involved
with realismthat shall be discussed. These include accuracy and independence.
Realists attempt to portray the illusion that their film world has not been manipulated and is almost
like a mirror to the real world. Their techniques are different to those of any other film. They try
to make the film seem as real and as close to normal life as possible by using natural lighting
instead of special lighting equipment, they also mostly use hand held cameras and employ non
professional actors to really uphold this realistic image.

The depiction of subjects is always absolutely accurate to reinforce the portrayal of real life and is
void of any unnecessary artistic embellishment (Vaux, R. 2014). A technique that is used is
filming done on locations rather than sets to properly portray the feel of real life. Events are not
euphemized or hyperbolized to become a distortion or opinion of the truth. Unpleasant images,
words and events are portrayed in full with no hidden facts, as well as plain images, words or events.
A realist film that shows great accuracy is the war film All Quiet on the Western Front. The
storyline incorporates just enough action to inform viewers that it is a war movie and at the
same time it also embodies many other aspects such as the politics, emotions and hype involved
with the war (Ronald, R. 2013). This gives the viewer a more accurate view as all aspects of the
war are covered. Throughout the film we see that real locations have been chosen to enhance the
realistic vision and accuracy of the film.

Unsaken Identity In Twelfth Night
Francois de La Rochefoucauld, a famous French writer has once made the claim, There is no
disguise which can hide love for long where it exists, or simulate it where it does not. Despite the
care, time and energy put into disguising oneself or deceiving others, it is impossible for one s true
identity, emotions and personality to remain hidden forever. In Shakespeare s play, Twelfth Night
,
disguises and mistaken identities play a dominant role in influencing the professions and lovelives
of several character. By looking at the mistaken identity of Viola as Cesario, Maria s handwriting
and Feste s role as the household fool, it is evident that mistaken identity plays a vital role in the
plot development of the Twelfth Night. The first character to introduce the theme of mistaken
identity and disguise in the play is the protagonist, Viola. Viola and her twin brother, Sebastian
are in a shipwreck. Realizing that it was a miracle that she herself survives, Viola believes her
brother to be dead. In order to survive in Illyria, an unfamiliar land the shipwreck leaves her in,
Viola disguises herself as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only disguised as a fool can Feste insult his master and not face any consequences. In addition,
Feste continues to make those of higher social status look foolish when he physically disguises
himself as a pastor and visits the supposedly possessed Malvolio. He further pursues Maria and
Toby s cruel prank by using his comical comments to abuse the victimized Malvolio. Disguised
as St Topaz the pastor, Feste calls Malvolio a lunatic, Satan and uses his wittiness and intelligence
to make a fool of Malvolio. Unaware that he is talking to a fool, Malvolio pleads for help, only
adding humor to the prank. Feste adds and controls the humor in the play by using his intelligence
to make those of higher social status seem foolish and

Bacterial Enumeration of Various Meat Products
The objective of this study was to record a quantitative approximation of how many bacteria are
present within various samples of meat products. The bacterial content of each meat sample is vital
information in regards to improvements within the meat processing industry, and gives reason for
changing or sustaining current feeding and processing conditions. Understanding which methods
taken in processing meat that is sold to the public is a matter of public health, as obtaining and
maintaining lower levels of bacteriain meats will reduce the likelihood of succumbing to illness
from the consumption of such products by the end consumer. In a previous study focusing on the
levels of antibiotic resistant bacteria found within randomly... Show more content on

The number of colonies was then divided by the dilution number of the sample, and the bacterial
content was then recorded onto a group data chart.
RESULTS.
Among the analyzed spread plates, samples from meat source A appeared to have the highest
numbers of colonies, while each enumeration held a direct relationship with the dilution number,
steadily decreasing in value as predicted, but averaging at a calculated quantity of 1.47E+07
bacteria (Table 1). Samples from meat source B showed similar trends. Samples from meat
sources C and D did not provide statistically significant results, and thus provided inconclusive
data; each of these spread plates had a recorded sample average of 0.00E+00 to represent this
(Chart 1). The pour plates had dynamic results, the most interesting of which arose from source
A2; this pour plate at a concentration of 1.00E 03 grew colonies that were too numerous to
count, then decreased to 77 colonies at the next dilution level of 1.00E 04, but increased again at
the following dilution of 1.00E 05 (Table 1). Source A3 was similarly dynamic at dilution levels
1.00E 03 and 1.00E 04, with colony counts recorded at 188 and 268, respectively, and then falling
to levels that were not statistically significant (Table 2). This data contradicts the predicted trend;
however, all other recorded data followed the ideal trend.

Essay about Medical Experiments on Animals Create Abuse...
The Screams Behind the Creams:
An Analysis of Vivisection in the Medical Industry
19.5 million animals are killed every year due to different experiments being tested on the animals.
Vivisection is the use of live animals during operation for scientific research. Such animals may
include: dogs, cats, primates, guinea pigs, and hamsters. One of the most common forms of
vivisection is the experimentation for medical purposes such as making new medicines. The use of
animals in the medical industry should be prohibited, in order for the industries to stop abusing the
animals and causing them to suffer.
When scientists experiment on animals many precautionary measures are disregarded and therefore
animals experience an excessive amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the torment of the actual experiments, animals in laboratories are deprived of
everything that is natural and important to them they are confined to barren cages, socially
isolated, and psychologically traumatized (Animal Experiments: Overview). The animals have
their entire natural habitat taken away from them while being tested. Without their normal
surroundings, it is hard for them to behave and live like their species. If a person were to have all
of their possessions taken away, they would be inferior and victimized. The animals feel this way.
Scientists take the animals for granted and forget that the animals have feelings too. The habitats
that the facilities provide for the animals could be viewed as poorly as the quality of treatment for
animals The environments of the facilities used to house the animals do not correspond with the
environments that the animals would live in, in the wild. One of the criteria a vivisection
laboratory must follow is to provide ethologically appropriate facilities (i.e., as would occur in their
natural environment) for those chimpanzees... (NIH to Reduce Significantly the Use of
Chimpanzees in Research). The facilities that the chimpanzees are in must match the environment
they would be in if they were in the wild. This criteria helps to eliminate the abuse of the animals,
however not all facilities are required to have the animals in their own habitat like

What Is The Mood Of The Banquet By Rene Magritte
In this painting, The Banquet (1958) made in oil on canvas, we can see a beautiful, but the
unfamiliar landscape with a strange red circle in the middle of the painting. This artwork was
painted by Rene Magritte with a very realistic color palette. It seems like painted with reference to
real objects: there are red, orange, blue, green, dark green, black, beige, and gray in this landscape.
In the foreground of the artwork, there is a stone wall with a stone vase. A group of trees stands on
the back of the wall, then a line and then a field of trees. The sky is covered with several tones of
red. Dark red colorwas used on each side of the painting, and lighter colors appear in the middle. In
the center of the painting is a red or orange circle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magritte was influenced by Romanticism and created a Surrealist art movement in Belgium. He
regarded all of art things important, and especially interested in the poetry. Through his painting,
he created the poetic imagery that can be called his own Surrealistic style. Magritte s painting
induces viewers to upend conventional thinking. Magritte spoke of this determination to make
the most familiar objects scream aloud : the more familiar the object, the louder it would scream
when divorced from its habitat, seen in a new light (qtd. in Calvocoressi 6). His painting seems
to be describing real objects, but the sense of the strange and quizzical appears when these real
objects in the background appear in the foreground, or vice versa. Either the sun appears
impossibly before the trees, on there is a hole in the forest framing the sun. This is a very different
style of art, compared with other art movements like Realism. He challenged himself to think
outside of the box and change other artist s ideas about seeing and making. Magritte s major
contribution to painting is how he defamiliarizes everyday

Advancements And Advancements Of Technology

ENG 3U1
Friday, October 3, 2014
Positive Developments in Technology Advancements and innovations in all fields are necessary if
humanity wishes to create a brighter and better future. Technology that has been created and
improved throughout the recent decades is proof of this philosophy. Medical innovations, such as
the MRI machine and advanced disease treatments, have helped to reduce deaths over the last half
century. With new diseases and complications arising frequently, keeping up with the times
becomes a vital matter and recent inventions have made sure that lives are preserved rather than
destroyed. Another area of interest is the internet, which allows people to access a wealth of
information and communicate with others from around the world. Computers, satellites, and other
tech are related to this subject, and all components combine to form a network that offers our world
a collective database an notion that would have seemed outrageous more than 50 years ago.
Technology is even allowing humankind to extend our reach beyond our Earth our solar system
can be explored thanks to inventions made since the Cold War s space race . Rockets, probes, and
other developments have made the vast unknown less daunting and also furthered our knowledge of
chemical composition, elements, and other related scientific principles. By saving and improving
lives, technology has had a profound positive impact on the world over the last 50 years.

X By Lois Gould Summary
Society has exaggerated that the way a man or woman acts is the way they have to be or else
they are not normal. The general stereotypes for women include they don t play sports, supposed
to cook and do housework, not as strong as men. The general stereotypes for men include work in
the science and engineering field, must be obeyed because they are always in charge, always on
top. In the short story X by Lois Gould, the author shows us that genderis not so important when a
child chooses to express him/herself in whichever way they want to. Although society wants an
individual to act a specific way, it shouldn t define their way of life, whatever makes the individual
happy they should continue to do it without having others judging them.... Show more content on

Children s choices/attitudes towards a subject are developed by their parents teachings in that
area. Parents influence their kids opinion in what field they choose to go into, if they have a boy
they most likely would tell him to go into some engineering or medical field (doctor), and if it s
a girl they would tell her to go into a teaching or nursing field, because this is apparently based on
society expectations and it s really bad if they don t follow what their genders are good at. If his
/her parents tell them what to become or how to behave, they will most likely listen because
their parents are more experienced and know what s best for them. Unless the boy or girl don t
try new things in life, as in don t try different sports, jobs, activities they won t know what they
are most strongest in. Most boys and girls are limited to specific fields because of what they re
parents opinions about them are. The way their parents raised their sons/daughters is also a
factor when they choose their jobs. In the story, X s parents raised him/her in a way where he
/she wouldn t be limited to specific ways of life. He/she got to experience both norms for girls
and norms for boys and he/she had twice as much fun when no one focused on gender or the way
he/she displayed

along with this regular interval for employees and also trips can be organized for team building
purposes. Managers are known to have a good vision, interpersonal skill, technical skill and also
perception. As manager s, they need to understand their strengths and weaknesses by conducting

1910 Revolution Essay
The 1910 Revolution in Mexico was the first of Latin America s great 20th century revolutions. The
revolution prompted a political system that gave way to an unmatched stability in Mexico for more
than half a century. The political, social, and cultural effects of the revolution triggered the
formation of the PRI, the agrarian reform, a new relationship with the United States, and in turn the
consolidation of national identity through cultural policies. In looking at these effects of the 1910
Revolution, we can determine why developments in Mexicotoday are so important to the United
States and characterize current bilateral relations, given such a deep rooted complex U.S. Mexico
relationship.

The party represented the new power structure that had emerged as a result of the Mexican
Revolution, an alliance between political military leaders and labor and peasant leaders. This
governing coalition sought more stability in government. One specific issue was in the
consolidation of Mexico s post revolutionary political regime. The current president, who under the
Mexican constitution could serve only one term, selected his own successor through an informal
process known as the dedazo (big finger) (Skidmore, Smith, Green, p. 62). Because of this, a
president was either choosing the future of Mexico or could act behind the scenes of another. The
issues that the PRI focused on depended on the president at hand. President Miguel AlemГЎn, the
first civilian president since before the revolution, was focused on Mexico s infrastructure. As a
result of his construction, tourism from the United States was heightened in Mexico. The
following president, Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, opted for a hard money strategy, in which he set a
stricter exchange rate from pesos to dollars and made Mexico less expensive for

techniques in order to make an argument. The speech, which was given in Gettysburg,
Pennsylvania, was written in order to commemorate the victims of the Battle of Gettysburg as well
as to boost morale amongst the citizens. Lincoln starts the speech with the famous line four score
and seven years ago , this alludes to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, an event that
created the United States, a free country for all. By starting the speech with the nation s history,
Lincoln emphasizes the determination that the American people have in obtaining equality and

Fritz Haber s Accomplishments
Fritz Haber was a Jewish scientist that used his knowledge of science in ways that effected our
world. He led the push for inventing chemicals that he thought would be beneficial for Germany
to use during WWI. He is known as the father of chemical warfare , scientist of death or the
immoral scientist due to the tremendous amount of pain, suffering and death that he caused. Haber
s immense sense of nationalism led him to making many ambiguous decisions. The long term
effects of Haber s inventions were negative and many people lost their lives because of him. Haber
s talent in science led him to create weapons that were very destructive. He created chlorinegas that

They convulsed in pain, tearing at their throats. Pus and phlegm filled their lungs. Yellow mucous
frothed from their mouths before they coughed out blood. Their faces twisted in agony, they
drowned on the land. Terrified by this new horror, many Allied soldiers ran, leaving a six
kilometer gap in the line (Barach N.P.). Soldiers endured excruciating pain when this lethal gas
was released onto the battlefield. Due to a gap that was left in the line, Haber s plan to gain an
advance was unsuccessful. Fritz Haber got his way. On April 22nd, he made hell worse (Barach
N.P.). The war was already very devastating and Haber s introduction of chlorine gas made the
war even more tragic. The explosives he was manufacturing were horrific enough, but his work
on poison gas had already killed German troops in test runs (Barach N.P.). Haber was not only
demolishing thousands of people on the opposing side, but he was also killing his own men that
he was dependent on to succeed in the war. Further weapons of industrial warfare were
developed. For three more years the war dragged on until no more blood could be shed. At 11am
on November 11th, 1918, the last shots of The Great War were fired. Germany was defeated.

  • 2. The Art of Competition for College Students During our daily routine, we see many different individuals. We can only wonder where they come from, who they are, and what they are doing here. Unfortunately, people tend to forget who are around them because our eyes are solely glued onto a small screen or too distracted by the sounds of music pulsating through their ears. People nowadays are fixated on discovering what their purpose is. By being a college student, you are entitled to just studying and doing well in school because we all want a great job later on. The pressure of competition comes into play and how it is so difficult to pursue a career knowing that another individualcan have it. The requirements that are expected from people develop into more self seeking individuals. Competition for having a career becomes very stressful and exhausting. Long hours of studying, restless nights are all attributes of what a college student goes through. With California alone, there is an unemployment rate of 8.9% as of August 2013. Fear just forms within a student s mind when they think about what their future may consist of. Questions run through their mind of whether or not they will ever be in that unemployment rate or will a career lead them to never landing in that percentage. People are like ants carrying the leaves or stuff found along the way towards their central home. (Anderson and Figueroa) Ants have a direct purpose. • 3. Daniel Evans Adaptation Of The Play The Seagull The Seagull The Seagull is a Queensland Theatre Company production, written by Anton Chekhov in 1869, adapted and directed by Daniel Evans. The play has been adapted from its original Russian setting to fit the modern Australian context. Changes were made to the language of the script, but the characters remained virtually the same through their plight against unhappiness. Through the manipulation of symbol, tension, and language, Daniel Evans adaptation utilises the unique conventions of post dramatic theatre to help realise the play s dramatic meaning. The Seagull focuses on the character s perpetuating sense of misery while searching for fulfilment. It captures the reality that, in love and life, you choose your own misery. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though language each character tried to define life and their struggle in hope of controlling it. In one scene, Masha in her drunken state unmasks her true emotions and declares her love for Konstantin, upon rejection she proclaims the meaninglessness of life without love and how in the end the only result of it is misery. Her pretence of having a callous exterior was to masks the underling pain that she is unable to deal with. Dim lighting accentuated the foreboding mood of misery and her off centre positioning on stage underpinned the neglect of sympathy she was receiving from other characters, most importantly Konstantin, due to the seemingly unimportance of her character. At the pinnacle of emotional pretence, Irina as a character constantly maintains a faГ§ade of extravagance. Upon returning to the lake, she vociferates the perfection of her life and career, but moments later runs off stage and sobs in despair. The use of split staging depicts Irina s battling emotions and her fear of showing emotional sincerity least it enhances her vulnerability. Throughout the play the seagull is a recurring motif and appears in peaks of tension in the play. In this case it reinforces the theme of the existentialism revealing the characters denial of their misery and unwillingness to change their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So I would like to read everyday by setting a time period for each night so I can have my 30 minutes of reading in each night. This will allow me to be superior at reading longer books knowing that if I can read a certain amount of pages in 30 minutes, I will be able to find out how quickly I can accomplish a long book. • 5. The Racist Movement To what extent was the rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 due to Mussolini? The rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 was largely due to Mussolini himself. It is worthwhile to examine the consequences of government inefficiency, the growth of the socialist movement, the support of others as an enabling factor, but his leadership allowed the fascist party to be relevant, and to take advantage of these other conditions. Though trasformismo and socialism did destabilise Italian society, it was nevertheless Mussolini who offered solutions; though he assumed control of the country through Victor Emmanuel s assent, it was him who created alliances to maintain the position. Thus, Mussolini s opportunist outlook and his command ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the countryside, the Labour Leagues, a form of rural trade union, was powerful enough to take control of local governments in areas such as Tuscany and Emilia. In response, the squadristi attacked the socialist leagues, encouraged by landowners and large farmers, natural supporters of the fascist movement. By late 1920, landlords and industrialists even began paying for their terror, thus providing financial support for the fascist party. As a result, right wing violence became tolerated and normalised, allowing it to breach Italian society. Inevitably, Mussolini s leadership once again proved to be significant, though he was not directly in control of their activity. He took credit for their role as protectors, and shifted the position of the fascist programme to be more conservative, in accordance to the public mood. His pragmatic attitude meant that the fascist programme was less important than its spirit the heroes and defenders against the red threat . Middle class voters also had cause to support fascism in its new direction, since the government was perceived to be too lenient with socialism an example being the Occupation of the Factories in September 1920. In fact, anyone who owned property, or was better off than an urban worker found appeal in fascism, as it now represented anti communism, patriotism, but above all, action. It is true that the ras had more direct control of the squadristi, but Mussolini was the leader who united their causes to take advantage of the socialist threat that divided Italian society by widening the fascist ... The Aztec empire fell when their leader Montezuma II let the Spanish into the capital. The Aztec people revolted against the Spanish conquistador, Hernan Cortes killing hundreds of Spaniards living within the city. Once the Spaniards were in control of the colonies the Spanish king made the Amerindians pay tribute, convert to Catholicism, and work for the Spaniards when help was needed. Although Spain imposed many laws onto the citizens it allowed the natives to continue to speak their own languages to help prevent revolt. The Europeans brought many diseases along with them such as small pox. As a result, about 24,000,000 indigenous people died (World Book Online). In the wake of the loss of the indigenous peoples two new races of people came to power; the creoles and the mestizos. They were the product of indigenous peoples bred with Europeans. It tells the story of Art Spiegelman s father, Vladek, a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor; it tells the story of the relationship between Art and his father, complicated by his father s Holocaust trauma; and Maus tells the story of the relationship between Art and his artwork. A remarkable work, Maus is for sure. Not only is the use of a comic book format daring for a horrible topic as the Holocaust, Maus also defies definition in terms of genre. In spite of the fact that the fracture tests on the notched bars have been conducted to analyse the shape of notch on tensile strength of bar but no studies have been found within the literature on EN 8 about various shape of notches. An extensive review and discussion of work have been done on the analysis of shape of notch on twisting strength of alloy steel. Fonte et al in 2006 [3] Suggested that Most of catastrophic mechanical failures in power rotor shafts occur under cyclic bending combined with steady torsion: Mode I (О”KI) combined with Mode III (KIII). An analysis of the influence of steady torsion loading on fatigue crack growth rates in shafts is presented for short as well as long cracks. Long cracks growth tests have been carried out on cylindrical specimens in DIN Ck45k steel for two types of testing: rotary or alternating bending combined with steady torsion in order to simulate real conditions on power rotor shafts. The growth and shape evolution of semi elliptical surface cracks, starting from the cylindrical specimen surface, has been measured for several loading conditions and both testing types. Short crack growth tests have been carried out on specimens of the same material DIN Ck45k, under alternating bending combined with steady torsion. The short crack growth rates obtained are compared with long crack growth rates. Results have shown a significant reduction of the crack growth rates when a steady torsion Mode III is superimposed to cyclic Mode I. A 3D Finite Element analysis has also shown that Stress Intensity Factor values at the corner crack surface depend on the steady torsion value and the direction of the applied torque. • 11. Figurative Language In Jeanne Duprau s The City Of Ember In Jeanne DuPrau s book The City of Ember it takes place in a very dark city without power or electricity and nobody s happy. And when two kids are presented with the opportunity to help save their city and risk their lives, they are the ones who want to do so. They go on this journey and hit many obstacles on the way but they have the mindset to never give up and it may or may not help them. One theme that can be supported throughout the book is that when someone risks their life for others they can earn great respect from other people and other peers. The theme in the story The City of Ember is shown early on in the book and it is represented by using author s craft. The author s craft that is being used in the book is figurative language, such as similes and metaphors. She uses figurative language in many different ways that can support the theme. For example Fear had settled over the city. Lina felt it like a cold chill (Duprau 85). This is a good example of figurative language and it also supports the theme. This is a good example, because it is describing how bad the city is and also how Lina realized she needed to take charge in saving the city. Duprau also uses another good example of figurative language towards the beginning also. For instance it states in the book Once they are out the door, Lizzie said goodbye and scurried away as if Linas bad luck were a disease that she might catch (Duprau 58). This is a good representation because it is leading up to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There has been an increase in the number of terrorist organizations and terror attacks that are conducted by groups in pursuit of divergent ideologies (Burleigh, 2009). Since the 9/11 terror attacks in the United States, terrorism has been recognized as a serious problem that calls for a global and coordinated response by governments across the world. Many countries have invested heavily in intelligence gathering and purchase of hardware and technology needed to detect and neutralize terrorist attacks. Some of these forms of recruitment will be briefly discussed below; Public and proximate This is the first form of terrorist recruitment and in this case, recruitment is performed face to face in a place that is visible to authorities and the general public (Reich, 1998). It may be done in refugee camps, prisons and large scale wartime occurrences such as occupations and others. The terrorist group recruiters usually target small groups or individuals who are prime candidates for recruitment. This form of recruitment occurs regardless of opposition from the authority due to fear of polarizing the attitudes of the audience, inadequate legislation, or political sensitivity among others factors (Reich, 1998). Public and mediated This is another form of terrorist group recruitment and it is usually broader and resembles propaganda. In this recruitment method, mass media is utilized, such as televised advertisements for groups that are within reach of the government and legislation (Reich, 1998). It may also include media channels and websites whose domain names and passwords are in the public domain. The terrorist groups that use this strategy usually target regional demographic or population strata including young teenagers who usually gather at a particular place or members of a unique religious congregation (Reich, 1998). This method of recruitment is usually indirect since physical communication may not be sustainable or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Examples Of Editing In Run Lola Run The 1998 German film Run Lola Run interestingly told three separate narratives of the same story and characters. Each of the narratives began the same way, however each one saw a slight temporal or behavioral difference in the lives of Lola and Manni, which caused drastically different outcomes for each of the separate realities. The filmfollowed Lola and Manni s journey to acquire one hundred thousand dollars to make up for Manni s loss of the money to his drug dealer. The same story was told three separate times, and each story illustrated slight changes in the characters timelines that drastically shifted the outcome of their situations. Through the use of editing, the film was able to jump through time and space and clearly portray the transition from one run to the next. The film also had a fast rhythm that captured the frantic nature and peril of Lola and Manni s situation, with innovative editing techniques such as showing the two shots of Manni and Lola side by side. Altogether, the transitions were effective in telling the story with a unique, and clear sequencing pattern that made sense and contributed to the thrilling atmosphere of the film. • 19. Aaron Copland Music Analysis Aaron Copland is a twentieth century American composer, teacher, and conductor. Schuman (1980), refers to Copland as the Dean of American Composers , which he attributes to his stylistic contributions to American culture including film. His works includes songs, chamber music, ballets, theater, symphony orchestra, solos, and chorus. Copland s approach to composing included twelve tone, a basic exhibition of serialism. Crawford Hamberlin (2013), describe this style as organizing twelve pitches of the chromatic scale into a unique pattern. This method expressed a way of organizing notes freely, without focusing on a key center. To non musical ears, the atonality heard is interpreted as strange, exotic, or in some cases esthetically pleasing. Copland s musical influence includes his time in Paris during the 1920 s with Stravinsky, a Russian Nationalist. Stravinsky s style was inclusive of traditional Russian folk music, evident in his ballet Petrushka (Navarro 2011). Copland composed Outdoor Overture in 1938, as a request from Alexander Richter, Director of Music at the High School of Music and Arts in New York City. Pease (2015), attributes the inspiration behind this composition from Richter s campaign: American Music for American Youth. The score (APPENDIX A), shares program notes, along with an extended synopsis of the piece. Nineteen Years A Slave By Solomon Northup Twelve Years a Slave, a memoir penned by Solomon Northup, is a poignant and extremely touching piece of literature, on the plights of an American slave. It is the autographical journey of the writer himself, and the twelve years he spent in bondage. Born as a free African American in New York, Solomon was tricked into slavery, and beaten black and blue to when he tried to regain freedom. He worked as a cotton picker, a carpenter, a mill worker, and faced severe cruelty. From the large scale on which they are made, the promotion and branding, the huge releases worldwide, and the way in which the action comes alive in front of our eyes; films reach a much larger audience than the readers of any book. To the modern eye, it is a mystery how the period of the Middle Ages produced the seeds of the diametrically opposite Renaissance. Tristan is everything a lord could want in a vassal. Yet it is not Tristan s love for King Mark that is what he is remembered for, but his love for Iseult, which is portrayed as higher than the feudal system. The love between Tristan and Iseult clearly violates the social conventions of the Middle Ages. When he falls in love with Iseult, Tristan s initial reaction concerns his duty to King Mark, Iseult is yours and I am but your vassal; Iseult is yours and I am your son; Iseult is yours and may not love me (43). Thankfully, the Love potion that Tristan drinks excuses him from his duty to the king. It is necessary in the Middle Ages to assure that Tristan is not being disloyal. The purity of the love is strengthened by the fact that God sanctifies it, love dropped upon them from high heaven (57). This Love is God given and therefore excused from the restrictions of feudal society. This mirrors the Humanist belief that man was created in God s image, thus it is a form of worship to revere man. First, by mentioning how the female leads are very empowered in a Feministic way (Screenjunkies, Honest Trailers Frozen) (Mays 1323 24). Second, they move on highlighting the role males play in the story, and the near sexist representation of it. The narrator describes the males being in the stereotypical villain role to the female leads (Screenjunkies, Honest Trailers Frozen). • 35. Contributions Of Plato And Aristotle Aristotle and Plato were philosophers in ancient Greece who searchingly studied matters of ethics, science, politics, and more. Though many more of Plato s works survived throughout the centuries, Aristotle s contributions have arguably been more influential, particularly when it comes to science and logical reasoning. While both philosophers works are considered less theoretically valuable in modern times, they continue to have great historical value. Both Aristotle and Plato believed in these shared principles: harmony, organic approach (society functions as an organism), natural approach, politics and morals, they believed that humans are social creatures, and they believed in the functioning of the state and its citizens. Plato and Aristotle believed that democracy is a corrupt form of government because it violates justice of proportionality. The idea of proportional justice attains when we ask who is the most deserving. For example, who should have the best flute, Aristotle answered that the best flute must be not given to the richest man or to the most handsome man, but given to the best flute player. Being in the position of governing is an honor. So who should have the honor? Plato and Aristotle argued that the honor must be given to those who have the knowledge of the Good (agathon). Case Study Of Magners Magners is the brand owned by Irish drinks company C C Group and in 2003 they began to look at the possibility of launching their brand in the UK with an eye on London in particular. Industry specialists had warned the company that cider was a declining market which had little or no potential, as cider was viewed as a summer only drink or something that first time drinkers, students and alcoholics drank. Magners had other ideas they wanted to create a new premium brand vintage cider that placed a premium on the idea of time and heritage as well as its unique selling point, which was its service (a pint of Magners from the bottle was to be poured over ice). This was used to establish a point of differentiation in the UK cider market. It offered the consumer added value from both a premium drinking experience as well as a prolonged enjoyment of the beverage. Creative agency Young Euro RSCG came up with the seasons campaign using the idea of time . • 37. Realism In The Lumiere Brothers Realism is the artistic attempt to recreate life as it is in the context of an artistic medium. It began as a revolt against the conventions of the classic view of art in the late 1800s in America and Europe in the form of an artistic movement (McConnel, R. 1997). There are many themes involved with realismthat shall be discussed. These include accuracy and independence. Realists attempt to portray the illusion that their film world has not been manipulated and is almost like a mirror to the real world. Their techniques are different to those of any other film. They try to make the film seem as real and as close to normal life as possible by using natural lighting instead of special lighting equipment, they also mostly use hand held cameras and employ non professional actors to really uphold this realistic image. The depiction of subjects is always absolutely accurate to reinforce the portrayal of real life and is void of any unnecessary artistic embellishment (Vaux, R. 2014). A technique that is used is filming done on locations rather than sets to properly portray the feel of real life. Events are not euphemized or hyperbolized to become a distortion or opinion of the truth. Unpleasant images, words and events are portrayed in full with no hidden facts, as well as plain images, words or events. A realist film that shows great accuracy is the war film All Quiet on the Western Front. The storyline incorporates just enough action to inform viewers that it is a war movie and at the same time it also embodies many other aspects such as the politics, emotions and hype involved with the war (Ronald, R. 2013). This gives the viewer a more accurate view as all aspects of the war are covered. Throughout the film we see that real locations have been chosen to enhance the realistic vision and accuracy of the film. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Study Gayle s Redesign Of Care CARE is a leading nongovernmental organization (NGO) that combats global poverty by reinforcing local communities with the equipment and resources required to do so. When Dr. Helene Gayle took control of CARE a decade ago, she inherited an organization that was highly decentralized. According to Dr. Gayle, this decentralization undermined CARE s effectiveness as individual offices were used to being on their own and were not thinking about the greater whole. Dr. Gayle was therefore tasked with the organizational redesign of CARE.1 Differentiation and integration are key to the organizational redesign process. In Shakespeare s play, Twelfth Night , disguises and mistaken identities play a dominant role in influencing the professions and lovelives of several character. By looking at the mistaken identity of Viola as Cesario, Maria s handwriting and Feste s role as the household fool, it is evident that mistaken identity plays a vital role in the plot development of the Twelfth Night. The general stereotypes for men include work in the science and engineering field, must be obeyed because they are always in charge, always on top. In the short story X by Lois Gould, the author shows us that genderis not so important when a child chooses to express him/herself in whichever way they want to. Although society wants an individual to act a specific way, it shouldn t define their way of life, whatever makes the individual happy they should continue to do it without having others judging them....
