Example Of Personal Narrative Essay In Spanish
When I first stepped onto the tarmac, I was apprehensive and excited, gazing at the indigo mountains
of the Montserrat in amazement, and as I turned to follow the rest of the passengers to the terminal, I
promptly tripped on my suitcase and went sprawling.
I traveled to Barcelona, Spain last July to help a family teach their daughter English and to discover a
whole new world I d never experienced before. The trip was a whirlwind of tapas and teaching, with
several bike rides to the beach dispersed throughout. Three weeks after my arrival, I was conversing in
fluent Spanish to a cheerful stranger after being tumbled by a rogue Mediterranean wave. Strands of
seaweed and pearly white grains of sand adorned my hair. My nose and cheeks were burned a deep
pink. My left knee sluggishly bled crimson, and I had never felt more beautiful. I felt comfortable in
my skin, and no longer had the nagging fears I felt at home before I left. My transition from childhood
into adulthood was not a graceful glide from one to the next, but instead a jarring fall. ... Show more

I was raised in the little town of Carmel by the Sea, and by the age of 17 I needed to see the outside
world, to experience different cultures, and to meet new people. I dreamed of talking to Greek
philosophers or Japanese fishermen, and I worked to make my dream a reality. After all the
arrangements, I found myself on a jet plane with a letter of recommendation for my host family in the
pocket of my favorite navy blue hoodie. For the first time in my life, a sweeping ocean physically
separated me from my friends and family, and I was living with strangers. It was frightening, but that
didn t stop me. I was determined to see the world with my own two eyes, not just through the pages of

Congenital Heart Diseases ( Chd )
Introduction
Congenital heart diseases (CHD) are defects in the heart that are present from birth and affect 8 in
every 1,000 newborns each year (National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, 2011). Hypertrophic
cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common congenital disease of the heart (O Hanlon and Pennell,
2009) and the most common cause of sudden cardiac death (SCD) among apparently healthy athletes
and younger generations (Maron, 1995; Maron and Maron, 2013). HCM is a condition in which there
is abnormal thickening of the myocardium in the left ventricle (LV), also know as left ventricular
hypertrophy (LVH), where the heart is not dilated and there is no other systemic or cardiac cause
(Maron et al 2003; Maron et al 2006). Although many patients are asymptomatic to HCM, some
patient s will present with, or develop progressive exercise intolerance, heart failure symptoms and
SCD (Keren et al 2008).
The prevalence of HCM worldwide is 1:500 making it the most common heritable congenital heart
disorder (O Hanlon, 2010). Annual mortality rates for presenting patient s range from 1% within the
general community, to 3 6% from tertiary referral centres (Noureldin et al, 2012). This range is most
likely due to the fact that tertiary centres are specialist centres, and patients suspected to have HCM
would be referred straight to a tertiary centre. There is currently no evidence to suggest that incidence
or mortality is affected by gender (Maron et al, 2002).

The Epic of Beowulf
Beowulf is the oldest anglo saxon poem written in English. The poem describes the heroic deeds of
Beowulf in his fight against monsters. Even if the events narrated in the poem take place in Denmark,
the poem was transmitted by oral language between the anglo saxon even 200 years after its creation.
Anglo saxons did not consider themselves british, but vikings, and their heroes were always from
Scandinavia.
The author of Beowulf is anonymous. The original poem was written on sheep tanned leather.
Beowulf is not only the story of a young man that gains glory against monsters or of an old king that
dies fighting a dragon, but it is the story of a brave man who, once young and invincible, chooses to
fight against the dragon though he knows that he s going to have a tragic end.
Beowulf meets all the features of an epic poem: it is a long narration of a national hero ( he is
recognized, rewarded and glorified by the king himself and his people), his travel on the sea, his
adventures and the heroic episodes he s the central figure in. Moreover, the main protagonist,
Beowulf, is a brave young man, like Gilgamesh, Achilles or Hercules, with more than human strength
and wiser, more courageous than others. Unlike the other epic heroes we have studied untill now,
Beowulf is giving us a detailed self description when he meets the king : In my youth I have done
many glorious deed.
The episodes of the poem are moving ahead step by step; this literary procedure is called

Xbox One Vs Ps4 Comparison
Have you ever wondered which gaming console was the better pick, or purchase? I am sure a lot of
people have run into this problem. I m here with this essay to make sure you make the right choice, of
course it s your purchase so it s all personal preference on which console you decide to buy. The two
consoles I have chosen to compare contrast are the Xbox One and the PS4. These consoles are both
very well known consoles, and the developers who made the invention make lots of money off of
these two consoles every year. These two well known consoles are probably some of the biggest
money makers every year. When a new console is released and you re trying to get your hands on it on
the release day you may run into some problems. Even worse problems than Black Friday shopping,
so make sure you re ready for what may occur during your purchase. When purchasing one of the new
consoles that come out. If you want to get an Xbox One or PS4 these two consoles are the front

You need a good gamepad to play games, and both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have them. The
Xbox One gamepad is a slightly updated version of the Xbox 360 controller, with a more rounded feel
and trigger buttons that offer individual force feedback. The DualShock 4, the PS4 s gamepad, is a
completely overhauled controller that keeps the best parts of the DualShock 3 gamepad and fixes the
worst. The analog sticks feel better, the triggers are more responsive, and the controller just feels nicer
in the hand. It even features a built in speaker and a potentially useful, but so far underutilized
touchpad in the middle. The only problem with the DualShock 4 is the light bar that marks which
controllers are on and assigned to which players. Fortunately, Sony has since updated the PS4 to let
you dim the light bar significantly, which cuts down on

The Media And Its Impact On World Events
Yahoo News, Huffington Post, CNN, Fox News, and Buzzfeed; these are some of the most popular
sites today for current news on world events. But what if there was a newspaper for everything
trending online? Cue Reddit, the Front Page of the Internet. Reddit shares many of the same attributes
as online news with its timely and interactive content; however, its goal is not to deliver objective
facts but to rank information by how interesting it is. Many successful websites require an equal
balance of ethos, pathos, and logos to generate traffic. Reddit is unique in that its success comes
almost exclusively from its use of pathos to keep a loyal user base.
Reddit maintains a stronger pathos than ethos or logos because its content is controlled by its users
instead of editors. Co founders Alexis Ohanian and Steve Huffman developed the idea of Reddit on
the basis that good reference material never actually really conveyed what was new and interesting of
the moment (Big Think). Their website uses multiple algorithms to allow users to organize content
through a voting system and to ensure that new posts receive the same attention as old posts which
keeps content both fresh and engaging.
The system that Reddit utilizes to keep content timely also leads to some confusion for new visitors
are unfamiliar with content sharing sites such as Pinterest or Tumblr. Before the top trending news
articles, pictures, videos, or discussions make it to the front page they are first posted and

Hurricane Sandy Was A Devastating Storm
Hurricane Sandy Breakthrough
By: Kene Ochuba Date: Friday November 6, 2015
Hurricane Sandy was a devastating storm nicknamed The Frankenstorm . The Frankenstorm happened
from October 19 October 31. Hurricane Sandy was very catastrophic and damaged lots of properties.
The cost of repairs was billions of dollars. Hurricane Sandy is the second most costly hurricane behind
hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Sandy at night on October 28, 2015.
Hurricanes are large gusts of wind that are concentrated usually in a spiral. There are three different
types of this storm: cyclones, hurricanes and typhoons. Why The Frankenstorm is called a hurricane is
because hurricanes happen in and around the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. While the others (Typhoons
and cyclones) happen in other parts of the world in other oceans. Hurricanes are the biggest storms
and do more damage than all of the other storms. The season of these devastating natural disasters are
from June 1st to November 30. If you live near the coast of the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans make sure
you are prepared with the tips that will be stated later. Hurricanes usually happen over a week, but
sometimes hurricanes last only a few hours, when some last over 3 weeks. Hurricane are named on a
six year rotation of male and female names. These names include Ivan, Katrina, Sandy and Andrew.
Hurricanes form in a quite interesting way. These storms only form above bodies of water such as
oceans. Where these incredible storms start is

West Memphis 3
Wrongful convictions occur every day. With a legal system that is at times dependent on eyewitness
accounts and hearsay there is room for error. Sometimes these errors of justice are quickly rectified,
but at other times the process can be long and drawn out. In the case of the West Memphis three:
Damian Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley, were teenagers when they were arrested for the
murders of three young boys: Chris Byers, Michael Moore, and Stevie Branch. For nearly two
decades, although convicted of the crimes, the West Memphis three denied any involvement in the
murders. The West Memphis three case is a prime example of how small town misconceptions and
rumors can take hold of a criminal case and twist non existent ... Show more content on

One can clearly see that Echols was mentioned at this point, not because of evidence, but more
convincingly, because he was different. According to Mara Leveritt, Damian Echols stuck out in a
crowd, often wearing all black along with a long black trench coat. (Leveritt 1993)
One would think a person would never admit to doing something so terrible such as murdering three
little boys if they had not committed the crime. But according to Jennifer Schell, PhD. this occurs
more often than once thought. In research compiled by Schell the following statistics were given about
false confessions: 93% were made by males, 81% occurred in murder cases, 74% of the time the real
perpetrator was found, 63% were younger than 25, and four out of five of the false confessors who
went to trail were convicted. (Schell 2011). Could this have been the case with Jessie Misskelley?
Jessie Misskelley was picked up in early June by officer Brian Ridge , the same officer who earlier
lost blood samples from the Bo Jangles restaurant. In an interview given by chief criminal inspector
Gary Gitchell, Miskelley was only picked up in hopes he knew something about cult activity.
(Berlinger Sinofsky 2012) Misskelley at the time was only 17 years old. With no parent present,
without Miranda rights being read to him, Misskelley was questioned for 12 hours of which only the
last 41 minutes were recorded. During this last 41 minutes of a 12 hour interview, Jessie

The Effect Of Low Phonics On The Existing English...
Abstract:
My research English project is about studying the importance and effects of adding Phonics to the
existing English curriculum at the early grades of elementary 4th to 6th grades in Saudi Arabia.
Phonics is an important in the whole English learning process, especially at the early ages and
elementary school years. Phonics depends on sound of words and how to spell them correctly and
accurately.
Currently, there is no structured phonics learning implemented at our elementary schools for English
learning. If the phonics is implemented, it will enhance the spelling of words and pronunciations. By
applying more methods and tools to teach phonics as educational videos, clips and educational
software available in the market. Reading English for those kids will be easier and will be better in
reading comprehension.
Introduction:
Phonics is all about teaching children the sounds in English words. When you can identify sounds in
words and sentences, you are well on your way to becoming literate. Well, with phonics, your child
will have the confidence to identify the vowels, consonants and syllables and can at least attempt to
read the word. Phonics basically teaches your child how to sound out words in the English language.
Phonics is a method for teaching reading and writing by developing learners phonemic awareness.
Phonics is absolutely essential for helping children begin to read. Once the code of reading has been
cracked through phonics, children will then have

The Security Issues Revolving Around Wireless Networks
Introduction
Wireless computer networks have become very common in the past several years. The convenience
with which computer users can utilize internet connections, without having a network cable attached
to their computers, makes wireless networks extraordinarily popular in today s on the go society.
Homes, offices, and public businesses (e.g., hotels, coffee shops, restaurants, etc.) all frequently have
active wireless computer networks. As is the case with hard wired computer networks, security is very
important in wireless networking environments, even more so because one is not physically connected
to the network. This paper will examine many of the security issues revolving around wireless
networks, as well as ways to protect such networks from vulnerabilities and attacks.
Motivation
A hacker who wishes to break into or eavesdrop onto a wireless network may possess one or more of
the following motives for attempting such action:
Challenge
Greed
Malicious intent
The challenge motive involves an individual breaking into a system simply to gain access or proceed
beyond a barrier, without causing any actual harm or stealing or destroying data. A challenger may
typically brag to his or her friends about successfully penetrating a system, in a way expressing a
sense of accomplishment. Greed involves a desire to gain something from the attack. Credit card
numbers, bank accounts numbers, passwords, and classified trade secrets are just a few examples of

Importance Of Social Class In Mrs Dalloway
Mrs. Dalloway is an exceptional novel with several varying themes throughout the book. The setting
of the novel takes place after World War I, previously known has the The Great War. The characters
express interesting reactions to topics common during their time period and illustrate their own
struggles. Class structure and social hierarchy play key roles in the novel and has certain effects on the
characters. The British people during that time valued social class as extremely vital. The people in the
upper class love life and enjoy themselves, but ones in the lower class have a challenging time to
move up in society. Woolf illustrates how the lower class basically looks up to the wealthier and more
successful people. The people the main character, Clarissa, associates with herself are all in the same
class or even higher up, for example, the prime minister attends her gathering. Other characters like
Miss Kilman, who Clarissa despises, and Ellie Henderson are envious of Clarissa because they are
lower then her in society. However, Clarissa is not alone but mostly every single character worries
about his/her social status and class whether they are making it larger, keeping it consistent, or feeling
jealous of others. There is a quote in the novel that resonated with me and it was Mrs Dalloway said
she would buy the flowers herself . Which is basically stating how she would have to get up and buy
them herself instead of sending a servant to get them. Therefore, it is

Advertising Strategies For The Highest Product Sales
Thesis: Advertising strategies that lead to the highest product sales are the ones that utilize effective
branding and represent products honestly and clearly, capture the viewers attention, and remain in
viewers memories. Advertisers spend millions of dollars creating effective television ads and
commercials so consumers will purchase their products. Television advertising, the most powerful
form of advertising, enables both audio and video advertising messages. Unlike other means of
advertisements, like the newspaper, radios, websites and magazines, television advertising is quick
and memorable. Based on research reports, millions of people watch television every day, and it is one
of the leading leisure activities for human beings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the television advertising strategies that leads to the highest product sales is to utilize effective
branding and represent products honestly and clearly so that the product is represented clearly in the
commercial. An example of this is Tony the Tiger for Kellogg s cereal. Tony the Tiger appears in
commercials as an animated character interacting with children in a live action world. To be able to do
this, Kellogg and other cereal companies spend millions of dollars annually in advertising. By having
characters like these, viewers are able to immediately identify what brand is being presented. Another
example is the Bounty commercial form Procter and Gamble. This commercial compares Bounty and
bargain paper towels by showing them being used beside each other. This Bounty commercial shows
that Bounty paper towels are 50% stronger and more absorbent than bargain paper towels because the
commercial creators know that consumers would choose the brand that is known as the strongest.
Bounty is a little higher priced, but the commercial indicates that a person can use the towels longer
than the bargain brand towels. These commercials make people aware of the brand and cause the
viewers to be more likely to choose it over others. Many commercials do not present their brand name
clearly, and this leaves viewers confused as to what the commercial is selling. For

Representations of Romantic Love in Poetry Across the Periods
Romantic love has been the subject of endless contemplation for poets of all periods. Intangible and
complex, love is the highest manifestation of humanity. No topic in poetry has received more attention
than romantic love. Conversely, the ultimate expression of love is through poetry. In each poetic
period, the representation of romantic love has been informed by the social and cultural values of the
time. Thus, across time, attitudes towards romantic love have shifted with changing values and beliefs.
Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare from the Elizabethan period, Valediction: Forbidding Mourning

John Donne s A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning exemplifies the representation of love in
metaphysical poetry.
A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning is one of Donne s later poems, and reflects his reputation as the
greatest poet of the metaphysical period. It was written to his wife Anne before he left for a long trip.
The poem begins quietly, at the passing away of a virtuous man . Donne movingly uses this imagery
to suggest that the parting of lovers is like death. Yet, when love is virtuous, lovers should part with
quiet dignity, and with no teare floods, nor sigh tempests move . Donne distinguishes their love from
the purely sensual love of the common people, which cannot admit/ Absence, because it doth remove/
Those things which elemented it . Their love is the union of their minds and souls, and therefore,
cannot be broken by physical separation. Donne draws on his vast knowledge of astronomy, alchemy,
and mathematics to create three unlikely, yet poignant conceits to support this argument. The lovers
are likened to the planetary bodies, who are sustained in their own universe and are not affected by the
disasters caused by the moving of th earth . This elevates their love above the ordinary harmes and
feares of superficial love. Secondly, their love is compared to refined gold, pure, noble and when
stretched apart, endure not yet/ A breach, but an expansion . The compass is Donne s most

The Decentralization Of Chicago
The definition of the Middle East as a category, is very much dependent of the existence of a West
(Alsayyad, 2011). What defines the term western and what makes a populace considered western? The
term western derives from the idea of European modernization, from cities such as London or Paris.
Under this modernization the cities adapted to new technologies, such as transportation and road
systems. Western culture was introduced; culture referring to that complex while which includes
knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, customs, and other capabilities and habits acquired by a person as
a member of society (Edward B Taylor, Anthropologist). Foreign capital, through tourism and

College enrollment skyrocketed as a direct result of the expansion of financial aid programs.
Initially, the federal government s involvement was restricted to providing financial aid to veterans
pursuing higher education. By 1965, the federal government solidified its involvement within the
realm of student financial aid by enacting the Higher Education Act. Title IV of the Act provided for a
guaranteed loan program that carried with it the full promise of the U.S. government to repay private
lenders if a student defaulted on their loan. The creation of this title lead to the creation of government

deemed advantageous to the public. The greater the amount of subsides that the government pays to
lending institutions, the greater the guarantee that those lending institutions will continue to provide
financial assistance to borrowers. Private lending institutions are guaranteed to turn a profit as a result
of government subsidies, even if borrowers default on their loans. In the 2010 State of the Union

What Role Did Christianity Play In The Russian Church
The Russian Church is the oldest Christian church in Russia, and one of the most established churches
in the world. It has been able to exist for over 1,000 years because of its strong Christian foundation
and influence over the previous rulers, the acceptance of Christianity within the hearts of Russian
Christians who fought to hold on to their religious belief even with a communist government ruling
them, and Russia s big and open landscape which allowed Russian Christians to worship in secrecy to

My Experience With Hearing Loss
For eight hours, I got to step into the shoes of over 48 million Americans who live with a hearing loss.
I had the opportunity to experience what it means to have an invisible impairment in a world made for
those who have good hearing. The bright orange earplug served as my ticket to one of the most
humbling adventures I have ever undertaken. I would have never imagined that a 32dB unilateral
hearing loss would cause so much frustration. With frustration, however, came understanding and
empathy. I am now confident that my experience will aid me in developing accurate expectations and
treatment plans to my future clients. I, like many, know several individuals with a hearing loss. I have
seen the devastation a hearing loss can cause for someone who is used to experiencing the many joys
of clear sound. As I placed the earplug in for the first time, I braced myself. I immediately compared
my temporary hearing loss to those with a permanent hearing loss and could only think about how
challenging my life was going to be for the next few hours. I knew that my communication skills were
going to be impaired and my value as a communication partner was going to take a nosedive. One of
the senses that I rely on every day was reduced and it felt like a part of me was missing. While I have
experienced small hearing losses due to cerumen buildup, this was by far one of the most severe
losses. As I went through the first couple minutes with the earplug in, I wondered if I would be able

Allegory and Symbolism in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “Young...
Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown is an excellent example of the use of allegories and
symbolism as a form of satire on Puritan faith. According to Frank Preston Stearns, author of The Life
and Genius of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hawthorne may have intended this story as an exposure of the
inconsistency, and consequent hypocrisy, of Puritanism (Stearns 181). Throughout the story of Young
Goodman Brown, Hawthorne tries to infuse as many symbols and allegories as he can to enhance the
overall meaning of his story. He uses the village, Goodman Brown, Faith, the man in the forest, and
the time spent in the forest as either a symbol or an allegory to get his point across that Puritans are
not always what they seem to be. One of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the audience is aware of these two pieces of information they can infer that the allegory
Hawthorne is writing about is how he sees faith transitioning from a young faith to an adult faith of a
Puritan. Brown in the beginning of the story is a young Puritan with young faith, but by the end of the
story he has changed into an adult and does not know if he has faith anymore. Although Brown s faith
is questionable the books states that he continues to pray and go to church (Hawthorne 337), which
would be considered hypocritical to some. If Brown s name is exchanged with Hawthorne s the
readers can see why he saw the Puritans hypocritical and why he left his faith. Notably Faith, the
protagonist s wife, plays a huge role as an allegory and a symbol throughout Hawthorne s Young
Goodman Brown. In this story Faith s name plays as an allegory. At first this could easily be missed
because it sounds like a common name for a woman, but once the readers get further into the story
they realize that her name plays an enormous role in the story s plot. Faith s name symbolizes Brown s
faith in God. In the story when Brown meets the man in the forest the man says, You are late

Over the course of the novels, it is revealed the ways in which dangerous tendencies can lead to
rejection and ultimately to physical and mental defeat. Put bluntly, these works illustrates the ways in
which rejection and desolation affects a certain character and the epiphany that ultimately comes to
light due to the tragic consequences they face. In Heart of Darkness, Kurtz highly dangerous instincts
ultimately causes him to be more susceptible to isolation, and consequently dies, possibly as his
punishment, with his final memorable words, The horror! The horror! (164). This phrase is significant
as it is almost a sense of realization, as Kurtz, the ultimately symbol of European colonialism,
recognizes the horror in his tendencies and the ways in which he has been blind to the ways in which
it has psychologically isolated him from the people in his life and more importantly, from humanity.
Furthermore, the nightmarish outcomes of rejection are completely depicted by the influence on
Frankenstein. Frankenstein, from the minute he is faced with the manifestation of his work, flees,
claiming that he felt mingled with the horror and the bitterness of disappointment (50). This illustrates
the ways in which he initially becomes destroyed psychologically, living in fear and seeking
vengeance, and then ultimately physically by his own creation. This event is highly significant in
terms of the consequences of rejection and the ways in which natural impulsivities can lead to down
fall, in that based on the superficial details, Frankenstein had abandoned his creation and lived in
anger and depression. And through this, it is clear to readers that he truly embodies monstrosity. Due
to his instinctive actions, he comes face to face with rejection that he had

Democracy cradles it s freedom and the belief of free speech, but when a nation s beliefs become the
causation of the deaths of millions that nation should delineate from what free speech is and what it is
not. Among Nir Zigdon, various others have spiked a surprising increase in internet based hacktivism.
These new hacktivists have brought with them a new form of law enforcement punishment on the
basis of hacktivist crime. The impressive amounts of protests and internet sit ins went hand in hand
with law enforcement that was equally as impressive. FBI and police have detained hundreds of
activists and levied astronomical fines sometimes reaching nearly $500,000 over the past year
(Coleman, 401 402). By increasing penalties, law enforcement ensure that hacktivism would cease.
For instance, hackers of the Islamic State known as the Cyber Caliphate seized control of the U.S
Central Command s Twitter account and hijacked a French T.V network in early April. These hackers
were to be found with lifelong sentences in detainment facilities if ever caught. With the wake of
hacktivism, law enforcement have placed astronomical punishments to derail hacking based crimes. It
is foolish to concur with the many who dispute for the hacktivists to be unchained and freed of their
fines however supporting the curtailment of the fines being placed would be wise. To dwindle the
numbers of hacktivist related crimes, law enforcement have become insistent on the

Temporary Disability In The Workplace
The best thing a company can do to protect itself from pregnancy discrimination litigation is to train
all managers appropriately, particularly those who directly oversee employees. When it comes to
creating policies that pertain to pregnancy, it is important for a human resource manager to
acknowledge that pregnancy is to be treated as a temporary disability. Therefore, the type of
accommodations that ought to be made should mirror those for related disabilities or illnesses.
Likewise, rules that are imposed for temporary disabilities can also be imposed for pregnancy. The
EEOC states that a pregnant employee cannot be singled out for special measures in an attempt to
determine her ability to continue her work. Instead, management should wait ... Show more content on

According to the handbook, benefit eligible employees may use paid sick leave for pregnancy,
childbirth, or pregnancy related illnesses. The handbook also addresses paid parental leave, stating
benefit eligible employees and benefit eligible post docs are eligible for paid parental leave (PPL)
benefits once they are employed for at least one continuous year on at least a half time basis. PPL is
provided to give parents flexibility and time off work to bond with their new child, adjust to a new
family situation and balance professional obligations. PPL benefits are provided to an eligible
employee during the first 12 months following a birth or adoption. An eligible employee may receive
up to 240 hours (6 weeks) of PPL. Purdue also provides family and medical leave under the Family
and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) that provides an employee with 12 weeks of leave for the birth of a
child. However, spouses or domestic partners who are both employed by Purdue University will be
limited to a combined total of 12 workweeks of leave during the 12 month period in which the leave is
taken when such leave is for the birth a child or to care for a child during the 12 months following

Understanding the Marangoni Effect
To understand the Marangoni effect it is essential to understand Rayleigh Bénard instability. The
Rayleigh Bénard convection instability occurs in a plane horizontal layer of fluid heated from the
bottom. The fluid develops a regular pattern of convection cells known as Bénard cells. The
convection patterns are the most carefully examined example of self organizing nonlinear systems.
Gravity and hence Buoyancy, is the major driving force for the Rayleigh Bénard Marangoni
convection instability. The initial movement is the upwelling of lesser density fluid from the heated
bottom layer. This upwelling spontaneously organizes into a regular pattern of cells called Bénard
cells.
The dimensionless Rayleigh number (RaL), which essentially expresses the balance between gravity
and viscous forces is given by Where,
Tu is the Temperature of the top plate
Tb is the Temperature of the bottom plate
L is the height of the container.
g is the acceleration due to gravity.
ν is the kinematic viscosity.
α is the Thermal diffusivity
β is the Thermal expansion coefficient
The critical Rayleigh number (RC) is the threshold over which the convection cells appear. RC ~
1100.65 for a Marangoni set up with controlled boundary conditions.
Rayleigh Bénard convection experiments used fluids heated from below with a confining plate on the
top surface. In case of Bénard Marangoni convection arrangement, the top surface does not have a
confining plate and is free to move and deform.

In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare the motif manliness is expressed in many different ways
throughout the play. Manliness is not seen as gender but rather your characteristics and how you act. A
man is someone who is courageous, and not afraid of things. They will battle to the death and when
something is tough you ll never see them cry. But I must also feel it like a man (4.3.260). In Macbeth,
Lady Macbeth wants to get rid of her feminine looks so people will treat her more like a man. She

reasons for being formed. This depends upon the prevailing political and military realities of the
times. The common and paramount consideration in the formation of all these cantonments however
was the importance of placing various military camps, the purpose of which was establishing,
maintaining and consolidating the rule of a foreign power.

Research Paper On Giotto
This is an artwork is by Giotto. Giotto was an artist that was very advance for his time. He grew up as
a shepherds boy in the outskirts of florence. There he worked on his paintings when an artist named
Cimabue saw his artwork and took him under his wing as an apprentice. Giotto s work is so important
because he was using a thing called perspective. Perspective was lost during the middle ages, but
Giotto reclaimed it. Though nobody used this method for a couple hundred years, if it weren t for
Giotto then it could have been much longer before art became more advanced. Florence, Italy had
other important features during the Renaissance besides Giotto s artwork. Florence was one of the five
very important city states in Italy. It was the capital of banking, thanks to the de Medici family. The de

Michelangelo s David and Gian Lorenzo Bernini David There are not many artists in the world of
sculptors that can compare or surpass the work of these two artists. The comparison that I will make is
between two different artists who happened to create a marble statue of the biblical David but did it
differently and during different eras of art. Michelangelo created his seventeen feet, standing nude
male statue of David first during the renaissance era between the year 1501 and 1504 in the 16th
century while Gian Lorenzo Bernini did it later in 1624 using the baroque style which was the artistic
style of the 17th century (Coughlan, 18). The artwork of these two artists goes a long way in defining
the state of art culturally and stylistically its significance during the particular periods they created
their respective statues of David. Having seen both sculptures it is safe to stylistically analyze that
Michelangelo and the renaissance masters concentrated more on the rules of geometry design because
looking at his statue of David everything about the statue is idealized in the sense that his sculpture s
size is not the normal size of a human being. He basically used the rules of geometry and symmetry to
build a big body block and decorated it with the details of a figure that served his architecture. His
methods allowed him to recreate every part of the figure

Comparing Black And Blue, And They Wear The Mask
Black And Blue , by Louis Armstrong and We Wear The Mask , by Paul Laurence Dunbar both take a
further meaning in a profound way of Ellison s work. Louis Armstrong poetically writes what did I
do? Tell me, what did I do to be so black and blue? The way in which it flows suggests that Armstrong
brings what happens in society (desegregation) and incorporates it into his lyrics. The tempo of the
song makes me question, was he sad or happy. Are the lyrics making him out to be black or white?
Black and Blue is a completely different concept and teaching from We Wear The Mask , being that
they want to hide their emotions with a different face. Armstrong sings I m white on the inside, but
that doesn t help my case Cause I can t hide what is on my face his emotions pour out of emptiness on
the inside and he can t help but show it on face. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

King Louis Xiv Baroque Style Essay
King Louis XIV of France used the Baroque style of art in an effective attempt to represent himself as
an absolute monarch due to many stylistic choices this particular style has that would enable him to
get his power across more effectively than any other style. Most noticeable of all aspects of the
Baroque style is the amount of detail and stuff in the painting. Textures make the fabrics look like real
velvet and silk that are way more expensive than other types of cloth. Realism that the Baroque style
employs helps reinforce the power of an absolute monarch by portraying King Louis as a real force to

Analysis Of A Thousand Splendid Sunss
Great authors use literary elements to develop novels. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, Mariam, born
out of wedlock, lives in Afghanistan. Afghan society refers to children born out of wedlock as a
harami , Nana, her mom, emphasizes this to Mariam constantly. Later on in the novel, Laila, Mariam s
sister wife has a harami herself. Khaled Hosseini uses characterization and tone to compare and
contrast the ways Nana and Laila cope with having a harami, showing that Laila overcomes the
stereotype. Hosseini uses characterization of Mariam through Nana s upbringing to develop the
subject of self doubt. Mariam, born out of wedlock, becomes shamed and targeted by her mother,
Nana. Nana always told her that she was an illegitimate person who would never have legitimate

knowing any better, Mariam believes that she does not deserve the same personal rights as everyone
because of her social status, even though she cannot control that. Nana blamed Mariam for the
embarrassment, guilt, and shame of having a harami, making Mariam feel at fault. Nana makes
Mariam feel lonely, undeserving, and insecure, because of her status, which she did not choose.
Always dealing with Nana s harsh words, it did not occur to young Mariam to ponder the unfairness of

What is Merger and Acquisition and what are some Effects on Employees?
Abrom B. Cooper

Global Management Perspective
Professor: Brenda Harper
May 9, 2010
Introduction This research paper is about Mergers and Acquisitions and the effects and consequences
it has on employees. Mergers and acquisitions are sometimes referred to as takeovers or raid. In this
paper, I will attempt to elucidate some of the reasons behind M A and some of the effects it has on
employees. There are a plethora of effects and consequences that mergers and acquisitions have on the
workforce. However, this paper only delves into some of the more prevalent and perverse effects they
have on the labor force. Firstly, I will attempt to explain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both companies were dissolved after the merger and a new company GlaxoSmithKline was formed.
Another kind of merger is when the buyer takes on the assets and liabilities of the merged company
(Romanek, Krus, 2002). According to Romanek and Krus (2002), this kind of business transaction is
referred to as statutory merger. On the other hand, a subsidiary merger is when the target company
becomes a subsidiary of the parent or acquiring company, wrote Romanek and Krus (2010). Although,
the target company ceases to exist in both types of mergers, in a statutory merger, the target company
maybe operated as a subsidiary, using its brand name, but is controlled and owned by the acquiring
company. A merger can also be categorized as horizontal, vertical, or conglomerate argued Gaughan
(2007). This categorization is predicated on whether or not the merging firms are in the same or
different industries. When the two firms are in the same industry, the merger is considered to be
horizontal. An example alluded to by Gaughan (2007) of this classification of merger is the merger
between the two petroleum giants, Exxon and Mobil in 1998. Other examples of horizontal mergers
include Oracle and PeopleSoft in business application software (2004), and NationsBank and Bank of
America (1998) in commercial banking (D. DePamphilis, 2010). Vertical mergers can be best depicted

Research Paper On Beltane
Beltane is a greater Sabbat on the Wiccan Wheel of the Year. It gets it name from the God Bel who is
the god of light and fire. In the Northern hemisphere, Beltane falls on May 1, while in the Southern
hemisphere it falls on October 31. Beltane is also known as: Rudemas, Roodmas (the Christian term
for Rood Day), May Day, Fairy Day, Sacred Thorn Day, Festival of Tana, Walburga, Floriala (Roman
Feast of Flower that runs from April 29 to May 1), Bloumaand, Cetsamhain, Bealtaine, Bhealtainn,
Bealtinne, Baltane, Beltain, and Old Beltane. Beltane marks the beginning of Summer and the light
half of the year. (Whereas Samhain marks the dark half of the year or Winter.) Beltane is the time to
celebrate life and love in all its forms. According to 13 Moons, This sabbat ... Show more content on

Traditionally, Beltane is the time for vows, handfastings, and commitments. Other traditions for
Beltane are wrapping the Maypole with ribbons and dancing around it, jumping the bonfire or balefire,
blowing horns and gathering flowers. It is taboo to give away food or fire on Beltane. From the White
Goddess website, The Lord and his Lady, having reached maturity, come together in Perfect Love and
Perfect Trust to celebrate the joy of their union. This is a time to celebrate the coming together of the
masculine and feminine creative energies. This is a perfect sentence to explain Beltane, having
reached maturity, has no age on it, just that they are mature enough to make that decision. Some of us
will mature at 16 years of age while others it may be 30 years of age before the same maturity is seen.
Beltane is the day in my own marriage that I reaffirm the vows I made to my own husband. [This is a
second marriage for both of us and we are a blended family, so we have had our share of upheavals
and obstacles. Beltane is my day to really remember and celebrate why we got married in the first
place. This coming March we will have our 10th wedding anniversary and I can not imagine a

The Iron Giant Character Analysis
Griffin Sikes
Christian Beliefs
15 November 2017
The Iron Giant was a movie that I believe had many different theological theme. But for me the one
theme that stuck out the most was of Christ and his sacrifice for us. Just like Christ sacrificed his life
for us The Iron Giant sacrificed himself for the people of Rockwell. In this paper we are going to look
at how The Iron Giant and the journey Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for us are similar, we will also
look at how we are supposed to live life like a child.
In order for us to look at this movie theologically we have to know what happened. In this movie a 50
foot tall robot crash lands on earth. He is later found by Hogarth Hough and they become friends and
they do a lot of stuff together. Eventually the army gets called and they try and destroy this monster
but this just made the giant mad and he began defending himself. At the end of the movie and bomb is
launched at the giant that will kill everyone. The Iron Giant decides to sacrifice himself for his friend
and the people of Rockwell.
The first thing I want to point out was this line from Kent Mansley who said.
No, Marv. Big things happen in big places, and the sooner I file my report, the sooner I can get back to
them. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0129167/quotes)
I point this out because people didn t think big things could come out of a small town like Rockwell.
Just like people not thinking something good could come out of Rockwell,

Otitis Media with Effusion Essay
Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) can be defined as, The presence of fluid in the middle ear without
signs or symptoms of acute ear infection (Pediatrics, 2004). It can be said that OME is an invisible
disorder, as there are no immediate signs or symptoms of an acute ear infection such as ear pain, fever,
or displeasure (Williamson, 2007). However, OME can have very significant consequences in the life
of a child. Early identification and monitoring of OME can combat against possible speech and
language delays, as well as protecting against further structural damage to the middle ear. From a
diagnostic standpoint, OME must be differentiated from Acute Otitis Media (AOM), as the
appropriate treatment will depend on if a child is suffering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
OME can also occur following an upper respiratory tract infection, as the anatomy of a child s middle
ear and eustachian tube are more horizontal, hindering the drainage of fluid and placing them at higher
risk for OME (Williamson, 2007). Other risk factors that make a child more prone to OME are
attending day care, bottle feeding in the supine position, secondhand smoke in the home, a lower
socioeconomic status, and having a large number of siblings (Williamson, 2007).
Given that Otitis Media with Effusion is mostly an invisible disorder without visible symptoms, it can
be difficult to identify in early stages. However, it is imperative that professionals and parents know
the signs and symptoms of such a prevalent ailment in children. The first sign that parents may notice
is that many children with OME fail to respond appropriately to voices or react to environmental
sounds as expected. Middle ear effusion can sometimes results in a conductive hearing loss of up to 50
dB (Boudewyns, et al. 2011), however hearing loss is not always suspected at first. Parents and/or
teachers may also notice that the child has poor attention problems and struggles academically.
Children with OME may also request that the television be turned up to very high levels, and also
have other audio equipment s volume much louder than necessary. Furthermore, children with OME
may suffer from balance problems and have

How Did Hitler Become Chancellor
To what extent was the Great Depression responsible for Hitler becoming chancellor in 1933?
Germany was already lingering with the unhappiness of the Treaty of Versailles and the
Hyperinflation that happened in the early 1920 s this made the people of Germany lose all faith in the
government of the Weimar Republic. Combined with the massive hit of the Great Depression the
German people and President Hindenburg decided to turn to the Nazi party for support.
Primarily, the Great Depression was mostly responsible for Hitler becoming chancellor in 1933
because it made civilians look to extremism. Businesses shut down due to hyperinflation, in 1925
almost 1 million people were unemployed and in 1932 nearly 6 million people were unemployed.
People lived in poverty, they were hungry and homeless, burning money to stay warm because they
were too poor to afford ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hitler was an amazing public speaker, he used this as an opportunity to blame others. He said that the
Communist started the Reichstag fire even though he was not 100 percent sure that it was a
Communist however, a Communist by the name of Marinus Van Der Lubbe owned up saying that he
did it. The Reichstag fire was a fire which took place on the Nazis home base, similar to the Beehive
we have here in Wellington, New Zealand. However this was is in Berlin, Germany. Hitler blamed the
Great Depression on others and the civilians believed him. He would say that he could end and solve
problems that other political parties started. Hitler promised people jobs, security and holidays. These
were things people needed and wanted because of the Great Depression. This made Hitler seem like
he could relieve people from their troubles which made civilians like him. This and Hitler s ability to
speak in front of a large crowd was one of the factors that helped him to become chancellor in

Nature And Social Impact Of Television And Its Impact On...
Television has a great attractiveness for a people, forms the preference, style of thinking and behavior.
This is a significant mechanism which makes a big impact on the human: Among of all other media
out there, the TV is the most wanted in society as this is the easiest way for a person to perceive the
information because compared to reading newspapers or listening to radio, a human makes the least
mental effort. Naturally, children fall under the influence of such a good assistant in the process of
discovering the world much easier than adults. Consequently, television by its nature and social
functions has enormous opportunities for influencing the inner world and human behavior. American
TV show about the outstanding doctor diagnostician Gregory House and his team who save people s
lives every day. The TV show about the doctor had a big popularity in the world and has been

Jean-Baptiste Oudry
The artist that I will be focusing on is Jean Baptiste Oudry, a French artist who focused mainly on
painting animals. He was born in Paris, France on March 17, 1686 and died on April 30, 1755 in
Beauvais, France. He was a French Rococo painter and specialized in painting animals. Oudry first
studied portrait painting with Nicolas de Largillière. And later met Jean Baptiste Massé. Through
Massé, he made many connections and one that made his reputation, Louis XV. Oudry created Louis
XV hunting a deer in the Forest of Saint Germain for the king and was later asked to produce more
paintings for the king. Oudry started out painting only portraits but later moved to paintings of fruits,
animals, as well as religious subjects. Oudry mainly painted but he also engraved. He was a Rococo
painter which was a late 18th century artist movement and style. ... Show more content on

The media used is oil on canvas. The size 97.8 cm x 131.5 cm ( 38 ½ in x 51 ¾ in.) In this painting,
there are two dogs Misse, the white dog and Luttine, the black furred dog. Here we can see Oudry s
love for animals. He painted this for Louis XV. In this painting these two dogs are probably playing
with each other in an outside environment and their names are under each dog. Oudry uses elements
of art such as texture and shape. The dog s fur are depicted by soft lines used by Oudry. He also uses
shape to show objects and represent what they are. For example, in this painting, we can see that the
pillar behind these two dogs are made up of a cube and a cylinder on top to show that it is a pillar.
Oudry also uses principles of art such as proportion and emphasis. Here, we can see that both dogs are
about the same size to show than either of them are the weak or stronger one. He also uses emphasis
on the dogs to show that this painting only focuses on the dogs and the background objects are not as
emphasized because of their size or positioning in this

Chapter 2: Generating and Protecting Business Ideas
Case Study What a Spectacle!
(p13 p22)
1. A Franchise is when a franchisor of a business gives the franchisee of another business the right to
supply its product or service under the same brand identity. Specsavers is a very successful franchise
for example.
2. Apart from franchising, two sources of business ideas are identifying a market niche which involves
noticing that something is missing from the market or that can be improved on. Also spotting trends
and anticipating their impact which involves creating or develop a product or service to suit patterns
or trends in the market.
3. The first benefit of Stephen Halpin taking on a boots franchise business is that they ... Show more

However, opening a Boots franchise is a high risk as the original Boots was obviously not making
enough money to survive and Halpin is opening under the same business name so the chances of
gaining a reasonably high profit from selling the same products and services is unlikely. Glasses
Direct was at a high risk as Murray Wells is only 22 and still at university and so he started the
business through his £1000 student loan. This means that he has to earn enough to gain a profit
allowing the business to survive as well as paying off his student loan. Finally, Glasses Direct is an
online store and so Murray doesn t have to pay rent or electric bills meaning that overall he had lower
outflows than Halpin because Halpin has to pay rent and electricity bills.
6. The web based, Glasses Direct business may have more potential to grow than a Boots franchise as
Halpin can make his own decisions about the business allowing further growth. Also selling online
means that he can sell his products globally but the cost of delivery and advertising will increase.
Furthermore, Murray has the choice to add new suppliers to sell a different range of products unlike
boots because in the franchise agreement all Boots stores have to sell the same products. Also, Glasses
Direct sell much

  • 2. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay In Spanish When I first stepped onto the tarmac, I was apprehensive and excited, gazing at the indigo mountains of the Montserrat in amazement, and as I turned to follow the rest of the passengers to the terminal, I promptly tripped on my suitcase and went sprawling. I traveled to Barcelona, Spain last July to help a family teach their daughter English and to discover a whole new world I d never experienced before. The trip was a whirlwind of tapas and teaching, with several bike rides to the beach dispersed throughout. Three weeks after my arrival, I was conversing in fluent Spanish to a cheerful stranger after being tumbled by a rogue Mediterranean wave. Strands of seaweed and pearly white grains of sand adorned my hair. My nose and cheeks were burned a deep pink. My left knee sluggishly bled crimson, and I had never felt more beautiful. I felt comfortable in my skin, and no longer had the nagging fears I felt at home before I left. My transition from childhood into adulthood was not a graceful glide from one to the next, but instead a jarring fall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After all the arrangements, I found myself on a jet plane with a letter of recommendation for my host family in the pocket of my favorite navy blue hoodie. For the first time in my life, a sweeping ocean physically separated me from my friends and family, and I was living with strangers. It was frightening, but that didn t stop me. • 3. Congenital Heart Diseases ( Chd ) Introduction Congenital heart diseases (CHD) are defects in the heart that are present from birth and affect 8 in every 1,000 newborns each year (National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, 2011). Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common congenital disease of the heart (O Hanlon and Pennell, 2009) and the most common cause of sudden cardiac death (SCD) among apparently healthy athletes and younger generations (Maron, 1995; Maron and Maron, 2013). HCM is a condition in which there is abnormal thickening of the myocardium in the left ventricle (LV), also know as left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), where the heart is not dilated and there is no other systemic or cardiac cause (Maron et al 2003; Maron et al 2006). Although many patients are asymptomatic to HCM, some patient s will present with, or develop progressive exercise intolerance, heart failure symptoms and SCD (Keren et al 2008). The prevalence of HCM worldwide is 1:500 making it the most common heritable congenital heart disorder (O Hanlon, 2010). Annual mortality rates for presenting patient s range from 1% within the general community, to 3 6% from tertiary referral centres (Noureldin et al, 2012). This range is most likely due to the fact that tertiary centres are specialist centres, and patients suspected to have HCM would be referred straight to a tertiary centre. There is currently no evidence to suggest that incidence or mortality is affected by gender (Maron et al, 2002). Obstructive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Epic of Beowulf Beowulf is the oldest anglo saxon poem written in English. The poem describes the heroic deeds of Beowulf in his fight against monsters. Even if the events narrated in the poem take place in Denmark, the poem was transmitted by oral language between the anglo saxon even 200 years after its creation. Anglo saxons did not consider themselves british, but vikings, and their heroes were always from Scandinavia. The author of Beowulf is anonymous. The original poem was written on sheep tanned leather. Beowulf is not only the story of a young man that gains glory against monsters or of an old king that dies fighting a dragon, but it is the story of a brave man who, once young and invincible, chooses to fight against the dragon though he knows that he s going to have a tragic end. Beowulf meets all the features of an epic poem: it is a long narration of a national hero ( he is recognized, rewarded and glorified by the king himself and his people), his travel on the sea, his adventures and the heroic episodes he s the central figure in. Moreover, the main protagonist, Beowulf, is a brave young man, like Gilgamesh, Achilles or Hercules, with more than human strength and wiser, more courageous than others. Unlike the other epic heroes we have studied untill now, Beowulf is giving us a detailed self description when he meets the king : In my youth I have done many glorious deed. The episodes of the poem are moving ahead step by step; this literary procedure is called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Xbox One Vs Ps4 Comparison Have you ever wondered which gaming console was the better pick, or purchase? I am sure a lot of people have run into this problem. I m here with this essay to make sure you make the right choice, of course it s your purchase so it s all personal preference on which console you decide to buy. The two consoles I have chosen to compare contrast are the Xbox One and the PS4. These consoles are both very well known consoles, and the developers who made the invention make lots of money off of these two consoles every year. These two well known consoles are probably some of the biggest money makers every year. When a new console is released and you re trying to get your hands on it on the release day you may run into some problems. Even worse problems than Black Friday shopping, so make sure you re ready for what may occur during your purchase. When purchasing one of the new consoles that come out. You need a good gamepad to play games, and both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have them. The Xbox One gamepad is a slightly updated version of the Xbox 360 controller, with a more rounded feel and trigger buttons that offer individual force feedback. The DualShock 4, the PS4 s gamepad, is a completely overhauled controller that keeps the best parts of the DualShock 3 gamepad and fixes the worst. The analog sticks feel better, the triggers are more responsive, and the controller just feels nicer in the hand. It even features a built in speaker and a potentially useful, but so far underutilized touchpad in the middle. The only problem with the DualShock 4 is the light bar that marks which controllers are on and assigned to which players. • 6. The Media And Its Impact On World Events Yahoo News, Huffington Post, CNN, Fox News, and Buzzfeed; these are some of the most popular sites today for current news on world events. But what if there was a newspaper for everything trending online? Cue Reddit, the Front Page of the Internet. Reddit shares many of the same attributes as online news with its timely and interactive content; however, its goal is not to deliver objective facts but to rank information by how interesting it is. Many successful websites require an equal balance of ethos, pathos, and logos to generate traffic. Reddit is unique in that its success comes almost exclusively from its use of pathos to keep a loyal user base. Reddit maintains a stronger pathos than ethos or logos because its content is controlled by its users instead of editors. Co founders Alexis Ohanian and Steve Huffman developed the idea of Reddit on the basis that good reference material never actually really conveyed what was new and interesting of the moment (Big Think). Their website uses multiple algorithms to allow users to organize content through a voting system and to ensure that new posts receive the same attention as old posts which keeps content both fresh and engaging. The system that Reddit utilizes to keep content timely also leads to some confusion for new visitors are unfamiliar with content sharing sites such as Pinterest or Tumblr. Sometimes these errors of justice are quickly rectified, but at other times the process can be long and drawn out. In the case of the West Memphis three: Damian Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley, were teenagers when they were arrested for the murders of three young boys: Chris Byers, Michael Moore, and Stevie Branch. For nearly two decades, although convicted of the crimes, the West Memphis three denied any involvement in the murders. One can clearly see that Echols was mentioned at this point, not because of evidence, but more convincingly, because he was different. According to Mara Leveritt, Damian Echols stuck out in a crowd, often wearing all black along with a long black trench coat. (Leveritt 1993) One would think a person would never admit to doing something so terrible such as murdering three little boys if they had not committed the crime. But according to Jennifer Schell, PhD. this occurs more often than once thought. In research compiled by Schell the following statistics were given about false confessions: 93% were made by males, 81% occurred in murder cases, 74% of the time the real perpetrator was found, 63% were younger than 25, and four out of five of the false confessors who went to trail were convicted. (Schell 2011). Could this have been the case with Jessie Misskelley? Jessie Misskelley was picked up in early June by officer Brian Ridge , the same officer who earlier lost blood samples from the Bo Jangles restaurant. In an interview given by chief criminal inspector Gary Gitchell, Miskelley was only picked up in hopes he knew something about cult activity. (Berlinger Sinofsky 2012) Misskelley at the time was only 17 years old. • 9. The Effect Of Low Phonics On The Existing English... Abstract: My research English project is about studying the importance and effects of adding Phonics to the existing English curriculum at the early grades of elementary 4th to 6th grades in Saudi Arabia. Phonics is an important in the whole English learning process, especially at the early ages and elementary school years. Phonics depends on sound of words and how to spell them correctly and accurately. Currently, there is no structured phonics learning implemented at our elementary schools for English learning. If the phonics is implemented, it will enhance the spelling of words and pronunciations. By applying more methods and tools to teach phonics as educational videos, clips and educational software available in the market. Reading English for those kids will be easier and will be better in reading comprehension. Introduction: Phonics is all about teaching children the sounds in English words. When you can identify sounds in words and sentences, you are well on your way to becoming literate. Well, with phonics, your child will have the confidence to identify the vowels, consonants and syllables and can at least attempt to read the word. Phonics basically teaches your child how to sound out words in the English language. Phonics is a method for teaching reading and writing by developing learners phonemic awareness. Phonics is absolutely essential for helping children begin to read. Once the code of reading has been cracked through phonics, children will then have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Security Issues Revolving Around Wireless Networks Introduction Wireless computer networks have become very common in the past several years. The convenience with which computer users can utilize internet connections, without having a network cable attached to their computers, makes wireless networks extraordinarily popular in today s on the go society. Homes, offices, and public businesses (e.g., hotels, coffee shops, restaurants, etc.) all frequently have active wireless computer networks. As is the case with hard wired computer networks, security is very important in wireless networking environments, even more so because one is not physically connected to the network. This paper will examine many of the security issues revolving around wireless networks, as well as ways to protect such networks from vulnerabilities and attacks. Motivation A hacker who wishes to break into or eavesdrop onto a wireless network may possess one or more of the following motives for attempting such action: Challenge Greed Malicious intent The challenge motive involves an individual breaking into a system simply to gain access or proceed beyond a barrier, without causing any actual harm or stealing or destroying data. A challenger may typically brag to his or her friends about successfully penetrating a system, in a way expressing a sense of accomplishment. Greed involves a desire to gain something from the attack. Credit card numbers, bank accounts numbers, passwords, and classified trade secrets are just a few examples of ... • 11. Importance Of Social Class In Mrs Dalloway Mrs. Dalloway is an exceptional novel with several varying themes throughout the book. The setting of the novel takes place after World War I, previously known has the The Great War. The characters express interesting reactions to topics common during their time period and illustrate their own struggles. Class structure and social hierarchy play key roles in the novel and has certain effects on the characters. The British people during that time valued social class as extremely vital. The people in the upper class love life and enjoy themselves, but ones in the lower class have a challenging time to move up in society. Woolf illustrates how the lower class basically looks up to the wealthier and more successful people. The people the main character, Clarissa, associates with herself are all in the same class or even higher up, for example, the prime minister attends her gathering. Other characters like Miss Kilman, who Clarissa despises, and Ellie Henderson are envious of Clarissa because they are lower then her in society. However, Clarissa is not alone but mostly every single character worries about his/her social status and class whether they are making it larger, keeping it consistent, or feeling jealous of others. There is a quote in the novel that resonated with me and it was Mrs Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself . Which is basically stating how she would have to get up and buy them herself instead of sending a servant to get them. Therefore, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Advertising Strategies For The Highest Product Sales Thesis: Advertising strategies that lead to the highest product sales are the ones that utilize effective branding and represent products honestly and clearly, capture the viewers attention, and remain in viewers memories. Advertisers spend millions of dollars creating effective television ads and commercials so consumers will purchase their products. Television advertising, the most powerful form of advertising, enables both audio and video advertising messages. One of the television advertising strategies that leads to the highest product sales is to utilize effective branding and represent products honestly and clearly so that the product is represented clearly in the commercial. An example of this is Tony the Tiger for Kellogg s cereal. Tony the Tiger appears in commercials as an animated character interacting with children in a live action world. To be able to do this, Kellogg and other cereal companies spend millions of dollars annually in advertising. By having characters like these, viewers are able to immediately identify what brand is being presented. Another example is the Bounty commercial form Procter and Gamble. This commercial compares Bounty and bargain paper towels by showing them being used beside each other. This Bounty commercial shows that Bounty paper towels are 50% stronger and more absorbent than bargain paper towels because the commercial creators know that consumers would choose the brand that is known as the strongest. Bounty is a little higher priced, but the commercial indicates that a person can use the towels longer than the bargain brand towels. These commercials make people aware of the brand and cause the viewers to be more likely to choose it over others. Many commercials do not present their brand name clearly, and this leaves viewers confused as to what the commercial is selling. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Intangible and complex, love is the highest manifestation of humanity. No topic in poetry has received more attention than romantic love. Conversely, the ultimate expression of love is through poetry. In each poetic period, the representation of romantic love has been informed by the social and cultural values of the time. Thus, across time, attitudes towards romantic love have shifted with changing values and beliefs. John Donne s A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning exemplifies the representation of love in metaphysical poetry. A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning is one of Donne s later poems, and reflects his reputation as the greatest poet of the metaphysical period. It was written to his wife Anne before he left for a long trip. The poem begins quietly, at the passing away of a virtuous man . Donne movingly uses this imagery to suggest that the parting of lovers is like death. Yet, when love is virtuous, lovers should part with quiet dignity, and with no teare floods, nor sigh tempests move . Donne distinguishes their love from the purely sensual love of the common people, which cannot admit/ Absence, because it doth remove/ Those things which elemented it . Their love is the union of their minds and souls, and therefore, cannot be broken by physical separation. Donne draws on his vast knowledge of astronomy, alchemy, and mathematics to create three unlikely, yet poignant conceits to support this argument. The lovers are likened to the planetary bodies, who are sustained in their own universe and are not affected by the disasters caused by the moving of th earth . This elevates their love above the ordinary harmes and feares of superficial love. Secondly, their love is compared to refined gold, pure, noble and when stretched apart, endure not yet/ A breach, but an expansion . The compass is Donne s most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under this modernization the cities adapted to new technologies, such as transportation and road systems. Western culture was introduced; culture referring to that complex while which includes knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, customs, and other capabilities and habits acquired by a person as a member of society (Edward B Taylor, Anthropologist). These informal settlements had always been present in one way or another, but their growth was linked to the dismantling of the public sector under president Sadat, and the globalization of Cairo, which can also be seen in many other cities in the Middle East. Initially, the federal government s involvement was restricted to providing financial aid to veterans pursuing higher education. By 1965, the federal government solidified its involvement within the realm of student financial aid by enacting the Higher Education Act. Title IV of the Act provided for a guaranteed loan program that carried with it the full promise of the U.S. government to repay private lenders if a student defaulted on their loan. The creation of this title lead to the creation of government subsidies, and eventually subsidized loans (Fuller). According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a subsidy is defined as a grant by a government to a private person or company to assist an enterprise deemed advantageous to the public. The greater the amount of subsides that the government pays to lending institutions, the greater the guarantee that those lending institutions will continue to provide financial assistance to borrowers. Private lending institutions are guaranteed to turn a profit as a result of government subsidies, even if borrowers default on their loans. • 19. My Experience With Hearing Loss For eight hours, I got to step into the shoes of over 48 million Americans who live with a hearing loss. I had the opportunity to experience what it means to have an invisible impairment in a world made for those who have good hearing. The bright orange earplug served as my ticket to one of the most humbling adventures I have ever undertaken. I would have never imagined that a 32dB unilateral hearing loss would cause so much frustration. With frustration, however, came understanding and empathy. I am now confident that my experience will aid me in developing accurate expectations and treatment plans to my future clients. I, like many, know several individuals with a hearing loss. I have seen the devastation a hearing loss can cause for someone who is used to experiencing the many joys of clear sound. As I placed the earplug in for the first time, I braced myself. I immediately compared my temporary hearing loss to those with a permanent hearing loss and could only think about how challenging my life was going to be for the next few hours. I knew that my communication skills were going to be impaired and my value as a communication partner was going to take a nosedive. One of the senses that I rely on every day was reduced and it felt like a part of me was missing. While I have experienced small hearing losses due to cerumen buildup, this was by far one of the most severe losses. Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown is an excellent example of the use of allegories and symbolism as a form of satire on Puritan faith. According to Frank Preston Stearns, author of The Life and Genius of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hawthorne may have intended this story as an exposure of the inconsistency, and consequent hypocrisy, of Puritanism (Stearns 181). Throughout the story of Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne tries to infuse as many symbols and allegories as he can to enhance the overall meaning of his story. He uses the village, Goodman Brown, Faith, the man in the forest, and the time spent in the forest as either a symbol or an allegory to get his point across that Puritans are not always what they seem to be. One of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the audience is aware of these two pieces of information they can infer that the allegory Hawthorne is writing about is how he sees faith transitioning from a young faith to an adult faith of a Puritan. Brown in the beginning of the story is a young Puritan with young faith, but by the end of the story he has changed into an adult and does not know if he has faith anymore. Although Brown s faith is questionable the books states that he continues to pray and go to church (Hawthorne 337), which would be considered hypocritical to some. If Brown s name is exchanged with Hawthorne s the readers can see why he saw the Puritans hypocritical and why he left his faith. Notably Faith, the protagonist s wife, plays a huge role as an allegory and a symbol throughout Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown. In this story Faith s name plays as an allegory. At first this could easily be missed because it sounds like a common name for a woman, but once the readers get further into the story they realize that her name plays an enormous role in the story s plot. Faith s name symbolizes Brown s faith in God. Rejection And Desolation In Frankenstein When it comes to the aspect of human nature, it can be concluded that as creatures of action, often propelled by personal emotion, it is without a doubt that human beings have continued to shift away from society s initial and original values, which in turn, results in society s formation of a biased judgment as they are keeping away from what they consider to different or dissimilar. Over the course of the past decades, it has become increasingly unchallenging for human beings to stray from traditional beliefs. Over the course of the novels, it is revealed the ways in which dangerous tendencies can lead to rejection and ultimately to physical and mental defeat. Put bluntly, these works illustrates the ways in which rejection and desolation affects a certain character and the epiphany that ultimately comes to light due to the tragic consequences they face. In Heart of Darkness, Kurtz highly dangerous instincts ultimately causes him to be more susceptible to isolation, and consequently dies, possibly as his punishment, with his final memorable words, The horror! The horror! (164). This phrase is significant as it is almost a sense of realization, as Kurtz, the ultimately symbol of European colonialism, recognizes the horror in his tendencies and the ways in which he has been blind to the ways in which it has psychologically isolated him from the people in his life and more importantly, from humanity. Furthermore, the nightmarish outcomes of rejection are completely depicted by the influence on Frankenstein. Frankenstein, from the minute he is faced with the manifestation of his work, flees, claiming that he felt mingled with the horror and the bitterness of disappointment (50). This illustrates the ways in which he initially becomes destroyed psychologically, living in fear and seeking vengeance, and then ultimately physically by his own creation. This event is highly significant in terms of the consequences of rejection and the ways in which natural impulsivities can lead to down fall, in that based on the superficial details, Frankenstein had abandoned his creation and lived in anger and depression. And through this, it is clear to readers that he truly embodies monstrosity. Due to his instinctive actions, he comes face to face with rejection that he had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Understanding the Marangoni Effect To understand the Marangoni effect it is essential to understand Rayleigh Bénard instability. The Rayleigh Bénard convection instability occurs in a plane horizontal layer of fluid heated from the bottom. The fluid develops a regular pattern of convection cells known as Bénard cells. The convection patterns are the most carefully examined example of self organizing nonlinear systems. Gravity and hence Buoyancy, is the major driving force for the Rayleigh Bénard Marangoni convection instability. The initial movement is the upwelling of lesser density fluid from the heated bottom layer. This upwelling spontaneously organizes into a regular pattern of cells called Bénard cells. The dimensionless Rayleigh number (RaL), which essentially expresses the balance between gravity and viscous forces is given by Where, Tu is the Temperature of the top plate Tb is the Temperature of the bottom plate L is the height of the container. g is the acceleration due to gravity. ν is the kinematic viscosity. α is the Thermal diffusivity β is the Thermal expansion coefficient The critical Rayleigh number (RC) is the threshold over which the convection cells appear. RC ~ 1100.65 for a Marangoni set up with controlled boundary conditions. Rayleigh Bénard convection experiments used fluids heated from below with a confining plate on the top surface. Art History Through The 19th Century Sean Ly Student ID: 03299319 LA 121 OL4: Art History Through The 19th Century December 18, 2015 Sara Ellis Michelangelo s David and Gian Lorenzo Bernini David There are not many artists in the world of sculptors that can compare or surpass the work of these two artists. The comparison that I will make is between two different artists who happened to create a marble statue of the biblical David but did it differently and during different eras of art. Michelangelo created his seventeen feet, standing nude male statue of David first during the renaissance era between the year 1501 and 1504 in the 16th century while Gian Lorenzo Bernini did it later in 1624 using the baroque style which was the artistic style of the 17th century (Coughlan, 18). The artwork of these two artists goes a long way in defining the state of art culturally and stylistically its significance during the particular periods they created their respective statues of David. Having seen both sculptures it is safe to stylistically analyze that Michelangelo and the renaissance masters concentrated more on the rules of geometry design because looking at his statue of David everything about the statue is idealized in the sense that his sculpture s size is not the normal size of a human being. He basically used the rules of geometry and symmetry to build a big body block and decorated it with the details of a figure that served his architecture. • 39. Analysis Of A Thousand Splendid Sunss Great authors use literary elements to develop novels. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, Mariam, born out of wedlock, lives in Afghanistan. Afghan society refers to children born out of wedlock as a harami , Nana, her mom, emphasizes this to Mariam constantly. Later on in the novel, Laila, Mariam s sister wife has a harami herself. Khaled Hosseini uses characterization and tone to compare and contrast the ways Nana and Laila cope with having a harami, showing that Laila overcomes the stereotype. Hosseini uses characterization of Mariam through Nana s upbringing to develop the subject of self doubt. Mariam, born out of wedlock, becomes shamed and targeted by her mother, Nana. Nana always told her that she was an illegitimate person who would never have legitimate claim to the things other people had, things such as love, family, home, and acceptance (4). Not knowing any better, Mariam believes that she does not deserve the same personal rights as everyone because of her social status, even though she cannot control that. Nana blamed Mariam for the embarrassment, guilt, and shame of having a harami, making Mariam feel at fault. Nana makes Mariam feel lonely, undeserving, and insecure, because of her status, which she did not choose. Always dealing with Nana s harsh words, it did not occur to young Mariam to ponder the unfairness of apologizing for the manner of her own birth (7). Nana s hurtful words guilted Mariam into taking the blame over things she did not cause or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both companies were dissolved after the merger and a new company GlaxoSmithKline was formed. Another kind of merger is when the buyer takes on the assets and liabilities of the merged company (Romanek, Krus, 2002). According to Romanek and Krus (2002), this kind of business transaction is referred to as statutory merger. On the other hand, a subsidiary merger is when the target company becomes a subsidiary of the parent or acquiring company, wrote Romanek and Krus (2010). Although, the target company ceases to exist in both types of mergers, in a statutory merger, the target company maybe operated as a subsidiary, using its brand name, but is controlled and owned by the acquiring company. A merger can also be categorized as horizontal, vertical, or conglomerate argued Gaughan (2007). This categorization is predicated on whether or not the merging firms are in the same or different industries. When the two firms are in the same industry, the merger is considered to be horizontal. An example alluded to by Gaughan (2007) of this classification of merger is the merger between the two petroleum giants, Exxon and Mobil in 1998. Other examples of horizontal mergers include Oracle and PeopleSoft in business application software (2004), and NationsBank and Bank of America (1998) in commercial banking (D. DePamphilis, 2010). • 44. The Iron Giant Character Analysis Griffin Sikes Christian Beliefs 15 November 2017 The Iron Giant was a movie that I believe had many different theological theme. But for me the one theme that stuck out the most was of Christ and his sacrifice for us. Just like Christ sacrificed his life for us The Iron Giant sacrificed himself for the people of Rockwell. In this paper we are going to look at how The Iron Giant and the journey Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for us are similar, we will also look at how we are supposed to live life like a child. In order for us to look at this movie theologically we have to know what happened. In this movie a 50 foot tall robot crash lands on earth. He is later found by Hogarth Hough and they become friends and they do a lot of stuff together. Eventually the army gets called and they try and destroy this monster but this just made the giant mad and he began defending himself. At the end of the movie and bomb is launched at the giant that will kill everyone. The Iron Giant decides to sacrifice himself for his friend and the people of Rockwell. The first thing I want to point out was this line from Kent Mansley who said. No, Marv. Big things happen in big places, and the sooner I file my report, the sooner I can get back to them. Otitis Media with Effusion Essay Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) can be defined as, The presence of fluid in the middle ear without signs or symptoms of acute ear infection (Pediatrics, 2004). It can be said that OME is an invisible disorder, as there are no immediate signs or symptoms of an acute ear infection such as ear pain, fever, or displeasure (Williamson, 2007). However, OME can have very significant consequences in the life of a child. Early identification and monitoring of OME can combat against possible speech and language delays, as well as protecting against further structural damage to the middle ear. From a diagnostic standpoint, OME must be differentiated from Acute Otitis Media (AOM), as the appropriate treatment will depend on if a child is suffering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... OME can also occur following an upper respiratory tract infection, as the anatomy of a child s middle ear and eustachian tube are more horizontal, hindering the drainage of fluid and placing them at higher risk for OME (Williamson, 2007). Other risk factors that make a child more prone to OME are attending day care, bottle feeding in the supine position, secondhand smoke in the home, a lower socioeconomic status, and having a large number of siblings (Williamson, 2007). Given that Otitis Media with Effusion is mostly an invisible disorder without visible symptoms, it can be difficult to identify in early stages. However, it is imperative that professionals and parents know the signs and symptoms of such a prevalent ailment in children. The first sign that parents may notice is that many children with OME fail to respond appropriately to voices or react to environmental sounds as expected. Middle ear effusion can sometimes results in a conductive hearing loss of up to 50 dB (Boudewyns, et al. 2011), however hearing loss is not always suspected at first. Parents and/or teachers may also notice that the child has poor attention problems and struggles academically. Children with OME may also request that the television be turned up to very high levels, and also have other audio equipment s volume much louder than necessary. Germany was already lingering with the unhappiness of the Treaty of Versailles and the Hyperinflation that happened in the early 1920 s this made the people of Germany lose all faith in the government of the Weimar Republic. Combined with the massive hit of the Great Depression the German people and President Hindenburg decided to turn to the Nazi party for support. Primarily, the Great Depression was mostly responsible for Hitler becoming chancellor in 1933 because it made civilians look to extremism. This means that he has to earn enough to gain a profit allowing the business to survive as well as paying off his student loan.
