Assignment 2 Cronbach Alphas Essay
Assignment 2 Cronbach Alphas (Reliability), Analyzing Compiled Parental Data
Upload your output, syntax/note file, and write up to Canvas. Be sure that your syntax files contains
notes for what and why you are commanding certain things. Not including all documentation or
uploading you file appropriately by the due date will severely affect your grade, up to and including
receiving a zero (0) for the assignment.
For this assignment, you will be using the Parental Data that you compiled during class as well as the
GSS Assignment Data, which is on Canvas under your Homework 1 module.
Step 1: Analyzing Compiled Parental Data
Open the parental data that you compiled during this class if you weren t in class on this day, you will
be unable to do this portion of the assignment, which is one of the consequences of not attending class
(see syllabus page 5). Complete the following.
(1) Command and print descriptive statistics and frequency distributions of the variables that identify
the respondents (R) answers to Q2 (balancing job and family), Q3 (sacrificing job for family), and Q9
(interview coded R s sex). Be sure that you set your options so that your output files contain the

What do these variables represent (i.e., what information/question is being asked and answered for
each variable)? In order to provide a complete and appropriate answer to this question, you will need
to look at the variable labels and values (response options) in the SPSS file and the GSS codebook for
additional information (i.e., what missing categories are available for coding, what year(s) was/were
these questions asked). {Remember: Just because I am not asking you for descriptives and frequency

Reflection On Conflict Theory
In this class, the idea of Conflict Theory was brought up very early on. I really enjoy the concept and
find it incredibly useful when considering complex topics. Conflict theory, which was originally a
concept in which Karl Marx is largely attributed, theorizes that conflict arises due to limited resources
and the competition to secure those resources. The theory says that as long as there is a limit on how
much of something there is (and since we all live on a giant ball that has a set amount of every
resource, there always will be), then there will be people who fight to have control of it. For me, I find
this theory in action everywhere, and I routinely use it as a logical deduction tool to deduce the
underlying motivations of those around me.
Whenever I see something strange happening around me, the first thing I do is ask myself: Who
profits from this? How do they profit? Why would they do that? After that, I ask myself who else
would want whatever is in question. For example, if I was asked to find a root cause for the ongoing
conflict in the middle east, I would ask who benefits from it. Once I do that, I would probably find that
a very large portion of the U.S. economy is derived from the import and export of petroleum, which is
highly abundant in the area. In fact, if the U.S. were to lose the oil imported from the middle east, then
disastrous wouldn t even come close to describing the economic turmoil that would ensue within the
United States. From this, I would undoubtedly conclude that the U.S. ( some other European
countries) are guilty of destabilizing the region in order to secure rights over their oil.
But this theory does not just apply to global issues. The idea of conflict applies everywhere, from
knowing what a possible future employer wants to hear, to understanding how much you are paying at
the register when you go grocery shopping. In fact, both of these ideas had a large impact on how I
landed my first job.
When I was in high school, seniors were required to participate in a 200 hour internship at local
businesses in order to graduate. It was during this time that I got an interview at a company known as
Social Eyes Marketing as a website designer. In that interview, I was

Plebeians Underdogs
Plebeians; The Underdogs of Rome
There are multiple reasons why the Plebeians were important to Rome. They were the farmers, the
tradesmen, and the soldiers. They did the brunt of the work. They were also the majority of Roman
citizens. I will attempt to explain why the Plebeians were so important.
Who were the Plebeians? What was their role in Rome? What occupation did they hold? How many of
them were there? All important questions. The Plebeians were members of the general citizenry in
ancient Rome as opposed to the privileged patrician class (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica.,
2014). They were either conquered people who came to live in Rome and eventually became Romans,
or people who sought refuge in Rome from political, criminal, ... Show more content on

You do all the hard labor at work, but your boss gets the promotion? You study harder and get better
grades, yet you can t go to college and that rich kid with a C average can? The Plebeians were
underdogs, not appreciated until they were gone, the majority who were drowned out by the minority.
Many of us can understand that. We have all been in the position of being the underdog, the one who
did it all and never got the credit. Perhaps that is why, in history, the Plebeians are painted as victims
and Patricians as power hungry, greedy noblemen. We feel like we can relate to them, and we do not
feel we can relate to the Patricians. That makes me wonder, are we all just Plebeians, being controlled
by a select few individuals who are lucky enough to be born into success or are we all Patricians,
oppressing another group of people while believing we are the

American Colonization Effects
American Colonization And The Effects of the American Revolution
By the late 1400 s all of Europe was looking for one thing, a quicker trade route to Asia. Columbus in
his quest to find that discovered the Carribean Islands, bringing back new goods and a thirst for more.
With his return many countries sent out their own explorers. Spain spread out their expeditions which
lead them to new teritiores and acquiring gold and silver. Spain was the first to colonize in the area
and with doing so they set a standard the would be followed later on for the American colonies. They
wanted heavy control of the colony including what was imported there and religous practices. They

Farming was thought of as mens work and hunting was considered a savage sport. America wanted

about agriculture. At first they were resistant but after an Indian named Lake Handsome had a vision,

Chromatic Tuner
Write a good life, buy a decent chromatic tuner. Do not try to tune your guitar by ear or using a pitch
pipe. If you are new to the instrument, use a tuner. For example, a Korg CA 30 Chromatic Tuner
Use a chromatic tuner is relatively easy. Plug the guitar tuner using a standard guitar cable like you are
going to connect to an amplifier. Connect the tuner.
Starting with the E (thickest string guitar) hit the rope and adjust the grip of the rope tuning peg until
the green light shines. If the red arrow is pointing in the right order and SHARP need to be loose, and
a red arrow pointing to the left, then the string is flat and you need to push the string.
Work from the thickest string to thinnest thin string. You must adjust the order in standard ... Show

The use of an electronic tuner is the best way to find the right tone, which eventually became part of
you sound library . When you reach a basic understanding of the correct notes and sounds, you are
ready to start learning to tune by ear.
The notes are focused on standards E (thicker string) A, D, G, B, and (thinnest string). When naming
the notes always starts in the thickest string, and ends with the thinnest. If you play the thickest string
open, make a note E. If you played next to open, you can make a note A.
5th friction note of any string (except G string) is the note of the string below it open. Take the Low E,
for example. The 5th dispute was an A, and the sequence below it. 5th straight chord is a D note etc.
Suppose the Low E is in tune (based on the reference note or a piano tuner, etc.), the 5th fret of the
low E is the same as the open string. So to fix a string, press the 5th Chartered rope Low E, and the
rope Open at the same time (using two fingers), then tighten or loosen the tuning pegs on a string (the
one that you are not pressing) until it sounds exactly the same as the 5th fret E. Low sound you ll

Fiction, Between Inner Life and Collective Memory. A Methodological Reflection. François Xavier
Lavenne, Virginie Renard, François Tollet1 Introduction In the writing of their fictional works,
novelists often have to reflect on the functioning of memory, for memory lies at the heart both of inner
life and of human experience in general. It is indeed in the works of writers such as Marcel Proust or
Jorge Luis Borges that the best exemplifications of the subjective experience of memory are to be
found. However, from a strictly mnemonic point of view, literature provides more than a means of
reflecting on memory: it is also the site of the rebirth and construction of individual and collective
memories, which can then serve as a foundation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Memories were first attributed directly to a collective entity by Maurice Halbwachs in his epoch
making La Mémoire Collective (The Collective Memory).5 This sociologist claims that all memory
depends, on the one hand, of the group in which one lives and, on the other, to the status one holds in
that group. To remember, one therefore needs to situate oneself within a current of collective thought.6
As a result, Halbwachs concludes that there are no purely individual memories, i.e. memories that
would belong only to the individual, and of which the individual would be the unique source.7 We are
therefore not the authentic subjects of attribution of our memories. Several writers have attempted to
reconcile these conflicting on individual memory and collective memory. For example, Paul Ricoeur
argues that memory does belong to the realm of interiority, for we see ourselves as the true possessors
of our own memories.8 However, memory also involves the other and fully bears its mark.9 From its
declarative phase, memory enters the public sphere because a testimony is always presented to, and
received by, an other. Moreover, Ricoeur, following in the footsteps of Halbwach, asserts that peers
can assist an individual in the work of remembering.10 He therefore draws the conclusion that
memory processes involve both the individual and the group. Ricoeur thus differentiates among three
different poles of attribution of memory: there exists, between

U.s. Unilateralism And Military Intervention Throughout...
This study of global politics will define the American Realism as a theoretical international relations
approach to the problem of U.S. unilateralism and military intervention throughout the world. An
exanimation of the post 9/11 era of the Bush Doctrine will define the premise of realism as a valid
international relations theory that defines the unilateral invasion of Iraq in 2003. This aspect of the
Bush Administrations use of military intervention in the 2000s has continued to expand under the
Obama Administration. The theory of realism is based on the premise of self reliance , self interest,
and a fear based form of aggressive policies that have been implemented in unilateral American wars.
Realism can provide a foundation for the motivations of the American government to act without
global cooperation or diplomacy with other nations, especially due to the massive economic and
military power that it wields as the world s policeman. These factors define he conflict based politics
of American military intervention and the unilateral polices that it continues to utilize on a global
scale. In essence, an examination of the theory of realism in an international relations perspective will
define the increasingly problematic American policies of military intervention and unilateralist
policies on global politics. The theory of realism in international relations is a powerful tool for
understanding the various aspects of American unilateralism and military

Competitive Environment:
Best Buy s competitors range between online retailers (Amazon), big box retailers (Target and Wal
Mart), club stores (Sam s Club and Costco), specialty electronic retailers (Apple), and home
improvement stores (Home Depot and Lowes). Some Best Buy rivals compete purely on price, while
others compete on experience. Best Buy believes that online retailers will have their price advantage
reduced as state governments around the country re evaluate sales tax laws that allow some online
competitors to offer lower prices. Additionally to combat price wars Best Buy also has price matching
policies for other brick and mortar retailers and during this last holiday shopping season even matched
some online retailers prices (Best Buy to Match Online Prices, 2012).
With the elimination of Best Buy s biggest rival, Circuit City, they are left to focus on competitors
such as Amazon, Wal Mart, and Home Depot. None of these stores compete directly with Best Buy in
every segment, but each of them offers products that compete directly with Best Buy. As shown in
Exhibit 1, while Best Buy does compete with Home Depot and Lowes, the effect of appliances on
Best Buy s sales is quite small, accounting for only 5% of sales in 2011. Because there are no stores
which offer a value proposition exactly like Best Buy, it presents a problem when analyzing financial

doesn t make you great, but helping other does. In the fictional story, Abuela Invents the Zero, by
Judith Ortiz Cofer illustrates the idea of helping and caring others through the story of

(WBS) The term WBS has become a common term in all fields related to Cost Engineering including
Construction Cost Estimating, Scheduling and Project Cost Control. A well defined WBS is the
backbone of good Construction Estimating Software and can take several forms including the

The current CSI MasterFormat ™ 2004 Edition [1] comes closest to covering all the scope of work
found in the construction of Building Facilities and Site Work. It falls short in addressing the unique
requirements of estimators, schedulers and cost engineers in identifying all phases of work included in
major Infrastructure work such as Build Own and Transfer (BOT) projects. This Standard Work
Breakdown attempts to format the project into a multi level WBS suited to estimate, schedule, track
cost and measure performance on international infrastructure projects. The breakdown is also designed
to facilitate the data transfer of a standard work breakdown between common estimating, scheduling
and cost control software applications. The International Infrastructure Project Work Breakdown
Structure (WBS) The following paragraphs outline the various sub projects and phases within the
Civil Infrastructure WBS. The Sub Projects within a Civil Infrastructure Project Life Cycle Traditional
work breakdown structures in the past have only identified the Construction Divisions within a
project. This proposed work breakdown includes all phases within the life span of the project cycle,
including Development, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Transfer and Risk.

Social Darwinism Book Report
Social Darwinism is the theory of evolution applied to human society. Social Darwinism was a term
formed in the late 19th century to describe the idea that humans, like plants and animals, compete in a
struggle for existence. The theory of evolution came about in 1859, when Charles Darwin, an English
naturalist and geologist, published a book called, On the Origin of Species. The book talks about
Darwin s theory of evolution by natural selection and survival of the fittest. Darwin believed that
organisms change over time as a result of changes in physical or behavioral traits. One of Darwin s
main points in his book was, Survival of the fittest. This refers to an animal s ability to survive and
reproduce. Species evolve through changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and Henry Ford. These were just a few business men that
followed the idea of Social Darwinism. In the late 1820 s, Cornelius Vanderbilt went into business on
his own, building steamships in the New York area, eventually becoming one of the largest steamship
operators. In the 1860 s, the railroad industry was entering a period of great expansion, so he shifted
his attention to make railroad transportation more efficient. Vanderbilt s goal was to control the steel
industry. He bought out competitors and suppliers, giving him total power to set the cost of his product
to what he wanted. Vanderbilt used the idea of Social Darwinism when he transferred from working
the shipping to railroad business. He knew that if he kept his shipping business, it wouldn t be as
profitable later on. That s why he invested his money, focus, and time into building a successful
railroad industry. At a young age, John D. Rockefeller acted much like a young businessman, selling
candy to local children and supporting his family. In 1870, Rockefeller established the Standard Oil
Company of Ohio. He eventually controlled 90 percent of the refining business. With his large profits,
he drove his competitors out of business by selling the oil cheaper than what it cost to produce the oil.
After taking total control, he raised the price of oil to make his money back. In 1873, Andrew
Carnegie entered the steel business and by 1899, the Carnegie Steel Company manufactured more
steel than all the factories in Great Britain. Carnegie s success was to searching for ways to make
better products more cheaply and hired chemists to improve the quality of the steel. He used a vertical
integration which he bought out his suppliers, giving him total power of the cost and quality of his
product. Carnegie was greatly influenced by Herbert Spencer s, Social Darwinism. Spencer believed

The Other Family By Himani Bannerji
Individuals should learn to accept themselves for who they are, not what society wants them to accept.
As we continue to evolve, we build up our own characters, and they are typically a mix of the
ethnicity and culture we inherit from our family, various encounters in our life, distinctive identity and
personality we have. Our character and identity is not something that we get easily, it s an intricate
process. The story The Other Family by Himani Bannerji is based on a mother and a daughter who
immigrates to Canada. They belong to a black family, but after the immigration they are living in the
dominance of the white society. The school is considered as the hegemony of Canada and teacher is
considered as the mainstream, it is a sort of social institution that a hegemony shape but they does not
know the awareness of marginalized groups. The mother feels anxious when she sees a drawing of a
white family by her daughter. It was the misperceptions of the kid that lead to forget her identity or
she was too small to identify it. So to examine about the identity of the marginalized individual the
beginning is to focus on the quality of the education. It is necessary for every school system to teach
equality and inclusions of every group status so that the marginalized group are not left isolated from
the society. Secondly, the fear of the marginalized parents from losing their kids in the mainstream
society shows their lack of confidence in their own cultural pride. Since

aspect of my writing has improved. One of the things that helped me immensely was creating an

Amy Winehouse Back To Black Analysis
Amy Winehouse Back to Black
Amy Winehouse is an old soul who inspired a new sound in a modern age. She manipulated classical
jazz with her hip hop influences and her strong unique voice with lyrics from her life experiences.
These factors made her music unique and inspiring. Sadly in July of 2011, Amy passed away at the
young age of twenty seven, leaving behind her musical legacy. Back to Black is one of her most
popular albums that shows off her beautiful voice and thoughtful composition. Due to its unique traits
in modern music, it will continue to be played. This album is truly a work of art based on Amy s use
of meaningful lyrics in her songs, her strong unique voice, and her particular take on jazz. I feel that
Back to Black is an outstanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think this album is marvelous for a few reasons, one being her lyrics. The lyrics express struggles
within Amy s life that can be considered controversial. Amy would express and confront her troubles
in a fearless way within each song, which makes her music even more wonderful. In the documentary
film, Amy, they quoted her saying, I wouldn t write anything unless it was directly personal to me, just
cause I wouldn t be able to tell the story right because I wouldn t have done it. Even though the songs
are personal, in a sad way, I d never let it just be that. I d always put in a punch line in the song just
trying to be different with my lyrics (Winehouse). She spoke the truth and showed her sincere attitude,
which made her vulnerable, but made her real and unique. Amy s main experience that effected the
lyrics that she wrote was her ordeal with her ex husband Blake. Her experience with Blake was clearly
shown in the song Back to Black when Amy sang You went back to what you knew, so far removed
from all that we went through (Winehouse), which conveys the way Amy felt when Blake left her to
go back to his girlfriend. Another reason why I believe this album is outstanding is due to Amy s
powerful and distinctive voice. Her voice is strong and charismatic. Her vocal style compares to that
of a sixties soul singer. Amy s tone and mood is expressed clearly through her voice. Even when she
wasn t singing her lyrics, the sounds she made within her songs expressed the mood. Her voice glints
with possibility: tart, smoky, ready to flirt or sob, and capable of the jazzy timing of a Dinah
Washington or the declamation of soul singers like Martha Reeves and Carla Thomas (Pareles). The
main reason why I find this album most successful is that there is no other album out there that sounds
similar. Ms. Winehouse has grown up on hip hop s version of R B, which chops the old dramatic

Importance Of Machu Picchu
The site that I have chosen Is Machu Picchu. It is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes mountains in
Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. The site was built in the 15th century but was later
abandoned, Machu Picchu is renowned for its sophisticated dry stone walls that fuse huge blocks
without the use of a motor and intriguing buildings. Machu Picchu has polished dry stone walls, three
primary structures which are the Intihuatana, the temple of the sun, the room of the three windows.
Many of the outlying building structures have been reconstructed in order to give the tourist a better
idea of how the structures originally appeared. Machu Picchu lies in the southern hemisphere at
13.164 degrees south of the equator. Archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was constructed as an
estate for the Inca emperor, which can often be mistakenly referred to as the Lost City of the Incas .
The site was built in a classical Inca style. By 1976, thirty percent of Machu Picchu had been restored
and the restoration has continued. The site Machu Picchu was declared a UNESCO world heritage site
and a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981.

Alfred Hitchcock Rear Window
Alfred Hitchcock s 1954 Rear Window is full of characterization, narratives and symbolism. The film
focuses around the main character of the story, Jefferies, who is a photographer but unfortunately
recently has to use a wheelchair and stay in an apartment because he broke his leg. Jeff has to spend
time alone, so he spends his time watching his neighbors through his camera. Due to the warmth of
summer most people had to open their window so now Jefferies can see what is happening in their
life. It s like he is watching multiple films at the same time. A free cinema for Jefferies. The view of
that window and Jefferies s apartment is all the viewers have.
We spent the whole time in the main protagonist s apartment. His apartment is in Greenwich Village,
New York City. The camera never leaves his apartment because Jeff can t leave his own apartment.
Which limits it to one room and the view out of his rear window. Alfred Hitchcock really wants to put
us in Jefferies s shoes, that s why the camera never leaves his apartment and we are bound to see
outside from his point of view. The camera man uses shots zooming, which make the film look more
realistic and makes it seem like we are viewing this through Jeff s perspective. As the camera moves
around some characters might go to the other side of their room which has no window. This shows ...

San Andreas Fault Earth Earthquake
1906 San Andreas Fault Earth Quake: A Catalyst to Scientific Understanding In 1906 a geological
event occurred that has impacted not only the United States, but also the global scientific community.
The 1906 San Andreas earthquake devastated thousands of people and left parts of California in
shambles for nearly 300 miles (Galvin). People were capable of feeling the seismic activity as far
north as Oregon, southern California, and reports of vibrations were even felt in Nevada. This paper
will discuss what exactly happened on April 18, 1906, why the earthquake occurred, why the
earthquake has historical significance, and how similar earthquakes impact the environment and
people. Finally, this paper will conclude with a discussion on how information obtained from the San
Andreas earthquake helped to educate scientist about the earthquake and future earthquakes. 1906
marked six years after the turn of the century where the world was experiencing technological
breakthroughs throughout all disciplines of science. Earthquakes, up until that time were a
phenomenon that many didn t know much about. Scientists didn t know the causes and hadn t
experienced an event as drastic as the earthquake caused by the San Andreas fault s shifting. The
severity of the earthquake is recognized in history due to the human toll which left nearly a thousand
dead. The aftermath left fires burning due to damage to public buildings and residences left in the
debris. It is thought that many

Porter Argues That If a Firm Is to Attain Competitive...
Porter argues that if a firm is to attain competitive advantage; it must choose between the types of
competitive advantage it seeks, discuss using an industrial example? An industry can be defined as a
group of companies offering products that are closely substituting for each other in order to satisfy
customers. Competitive advantage can be defined as when a firm sustains profit which exceeds the
company s average; it automatically possesses competitive advantage over rivals. The business
strategy for most companies is to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. This essay aims to
discuss why firms must choose between types of competitive advantages using an industrial example.
Michael Porter indentified that there are 2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Porter states that there are 2 types of competitive advantage a firm can possess as mentioned above
however , there are 3 generic strategies for achieving competitive advantage in an industry; cost
advantage/leadership, differentiation and focus. The first type of competitive advantage is cost
advantage /leadership, it is when a firm becomes low cost producer in its industry. It minimizes the
cost to the organization of delivering products and services. According to Porter (1985) , there are two
ways of achieving cost leadership either by increasing profit by reducing costs while charging the
average price. Or by increasing market share through charging lower prices while still achieving a
reasonable profit on each sale because your cost has been reduced. Furthermore, companies that are
successful in achieving cost leadership usually have an access to the capital needed to invest in
technology which helps reduce the cost. Also, they have very efficient logistics and a low cost base
such as labor, materials and facilities (Ibid, 1985). Essentially, if a firm can achieve and maintain cost
leadership, it can obtain above average performance whilst the prices are still affordable in that
industry. Hence, the cost leader does not try to be the industry innovator, it seeks to position its
products to appeal to the average customer taste. The aimed goal is to increase efficiency and lower its
costs in relation to competitors. Some of the

Avatar, By James Cameron
Avatar is one of those profound movies with a deep meaning that strikes different emotions of the
audience, which they might have not known they had. It hit most of the questionable topics that are
mostly unspeakable now. Avatar is a spectacular movie written and directed by James Cameron. The
movie is set in a breathtaking alien world called Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na vi race. At
first, they are viewed as a primitive wild, race but in reality they are more highly evolved than the
audience would expect. Because of the rich properties that the land Pandora holds, it attracted the
Resources Development Admiration (RDA) Company. They at first were viewed purely as a research
company but that was not their only intention. Because of the toxic air in Pandora, the RDA
Corporation developed a hybrid mixture of humans and the Na vi to be able to live and move around
Pandora. This hybrid form is known as Avatar. As one of the Avatars falls in love with a Na vi he
obligates himself to help save her world. James Cameron uses this movie to show the inhumane
activities from our history, which suggests the story may be a metaphor: Avatar, as a metaphor, has a
compelling message which reinforces a strong theme of imperialism; the message suggests a
dangerous precedence of invasion, exploitation, and greed.
Invasion is a central element which is shown early in the story, and signifies the beginning of the
tension filled, rising action. Invasion is also a strong part of

What Is The Similarities Between The Lamb And The Tyger
The Lamb and The Tyger William Blake, a prominent poet in the late 1800s, wrote some of the most
meaningful pieces that are still looked at today by many. Poems are unique because they must arrive
to the point while also compacting all of the necessary literary devices needed for a concise message.
William Blake does just this especially in his contrasting poems The Lamb and The Tyger. The poems
The Tyger and The Lamb along with their literary devices coexist in order to create romanticism and
to convey William Blake s important contrasting messages of innocence and power. In the poem The
Lamb, the principal theme is innocence. The picture in the poem displays a young naked boy speaking
to a lamb. Both the lamb and the child represent innocence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is documented that Blake had raw talent in coloring and writing. Not only did he show such rare
potential at a young age, he also claimed to have several supernatural visions. Almost every poem he
has written involves a higher being perhaps because of his miraculous visions that he has experienced.
His most famous poems contrast each other in that they talk about completely different things. Blake s
songs of innocence go in depth in describing our existence and how nature is more related to ourselves
than we think. William Blake s other poems deal with a different perspective that involves the loss of
innocence and power. Blake wrote these contrasting poems in order to teach readers and scholars the
important relationships they have with each other. The Tyger for instance is a poem that deals with
power and corruption. The Lamb is a poem that makes us readers ponders the most basic unanswered
human questions. Naturally many view a lamb as weak, and I think that the author did this in order for
him to tell his message.
The Tyger by many is viewed as a poem that deals with God s other characteristics. God is viewed as
merciful in the Lamb, however, in the Tyger, God is viewed more along the lines of the immense
power he possesses. The Tyger naturally is a creature of power because of the strength it

Essay On Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise
What is the Missouri compromise? The Missouri compromise was an effort by the senate and the
house of representative to maintain a balance of power between the slaveholding states and free states.
There was a long debate whether or not missouri was going to become a state or not, but that changed
when Maine became a state. They did this so that there would still be an equal balance between the
slave states and the free states. The Missouri compromise happened during the time of 1820 1821. By
1818 the Missouri territory had gained an immense amount of population to gain admission into the
United States as a State. The people of Missouri came mostly from the south. It was expected that it

This happened because Alabama became part of the U.S. as a slave state. This had brought the slave
states and the free states to an equal amount. So in order to keep this Maine had to be a free state and
Missouri had to be a slave state. This was so that the balance would be kept between all the free and
slave states. This was the only way to accept Missouri in as a state. There was an anti Missouri group.
It arose from the genuine conviction that slavery was morally wrong. Many of the leaders of the anti
Missouri group men had been active in the federalist party which seemed to be in the process of
disintegration. The Federalist leaders of the anti Missouri group caused some northern Democrats to
rethink their support of the Tallmadge amendment and to favour a compromise that would thwart
efforts to revive the Federalist party.
When the senate allowed Maine to enter the United States as a free state and Missouri as a free state
Sen. Jesse B. Thomas of Illinois had added to the amendment that allowed Missouri to be a slave state
had banned slavery in the rest of the Louisiana Purchase north of latitude

Mining Into Destruction Of The United States
Mining into Destruction

Mining into Devastation
Introduction
Mining affects the lives of millions of Americans every day. Although the United
States has a large amount of coal remaining to be mined and burned, almost three fourths of the public
land in America has been declared off limits for mining. Mountaintop mining is a relatively new form
of surface mining that has steadily gained popularity. The debate as to whether or not this process is an
economic necessity or environmental disaster for Kentuckians is the question. Undoubtedly, it is an
environmental disaster and it should be removed in every state that they are using it not to mention the
health hazards. One report found states, Although dozens of new coal burning power plants are
planned or under construction, the latest coal boom is meeting resistance from critics who want to
shift the U.S. economy toward cleaner fuels. Even if electricity from coal is cheaper than other
sources, they argue, the savings are far outweighed by its environmental and health impacts (Isabella,
2013).

The Call Of Isaiah
The introduction of this passage in Isaiah the six chapter begins by giving the reader an account of
what is known as the the call of Isaiah . We also can see that Isaiah is more than just a prophet, but he
is a visionary, leader, priest, and a messenger of things to come. Not much about Isaiah is known
except the names of his father, and last two sons. We also see in Scripture, according to Isaiah 8, that
he is married, and his wife is a prophetess, but her name isn t mentioned in Scripture. There has never
been a vision in scripture so clear that depicts God as sitting on a throne . Yet the imaginative details
of Isaiah s vision opens the door for the reader allowing him/her to see an active God, instead of one

For years the king had lived in alienation and separation, under divine displeasure (2Ki. 15:5; 2Ch.
26:16ff.), and as his death approached he remained, to the human eye, uncleansed. Thus, Uzziah, as
the darkness of death closed in upon him, was symbolic of Isaiah s view of the nation, its plight and its
problems.
Another question that arises during the reading of this narrative is, what is the tension between the
prophetic office and the political position? Again, as stated before, this is unusual behavior for a
prophet to make mention during the time of his call. I can understand that Isaiah is possibly standing
in the office of priest during this time but how does this transitional calling influence the people
around and the culture of the social climate. In looking into the later parts of the vision, it could be
possible that the position of God sitting on a throne is a revelation that mirrors God being identified as
Lord and moving Isaiah from one office of responsibility to the next.
Next Isaiah gives a picture description of the beginning part of the vision. He references God sitting
on a throne, high and lifted up, and his train feeling the Temple . This for some scholars has given
implication that Isaiah is present in the Temple during the time of the vision, thus suggesting that he is
also a priest during the time of his call. But the divine was not present alone in this experience. Isaiah
also mentions the presence and the attendance of

How Does Lack Of Kinship Cause Problems In The World
Does the lack of kinship cause problems in the world? Does it really cause conflict, violence, poverty,
injustice and any other ill in the world? Kinship is what happens to us when we refuse to let that
happen. With kinship as the goal, other essential things fall into place; without it, no justice, no peace
(187). Father Gregory Boyle says this because if there was no kinship nothing would fall into place.
Kinship is important because the lack of it can cause deaths and tragedies in close knit relationships.
In the book, Tattoos on the Heart, The Power of Boundless Compassion, Boyle shows that the lack of
kinship cause violence, tragedies and injustices in the world. For instance, in the chapter, Kinship,
Boyle tells the story of Alex. Alex is thickly built, in his mid twenties, a handsome guy with tattoos
stretching on his neck. Alex has gotten thirty seven laser treatments and has quite a few to go. Alex
was just a simple guy, who never did well in school. Alex claims that if it wasn t for the Pledge of

The main purpose of chapter thirteen was to focus on the environmental problems that play a key role
on all living things across the globe on a daily basis. In reading 53 it brings up the past by analyzing
Hurricane Katrina and the effects it had on the citizens of New Orleans. The reading also brought up
things that most usually look past, it brought to light the racism and social structure of New Orleans
and the role it played on such a tragic event.
In the reading it opened up my eyes on how race and class played such a major part on the residents of
New Orleans when it came to Katrina. Never before did I realized that the ninth ward was completely

was one that never really liked to party, and I thought that all houses were like the ones you saw in
movies. After a lot of contemplation, I told myself that I would just go to a few events and see how
they went. The first event I went to was for Beta, and from then on I knew I wanted to be apart of that
brotherhood. Whether it be the delicious burgers or late night talks, all the events for Beta were
unforgettable. As rush went on, I was nervous that I wasn t going to get a bid.But after the Rangers
game, the time came, and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pledgeship may have been one of the hardest things I have done so far, while managing school. But I
am proud of myself and my brothers for pushing me to limits I didn t know I could do. I am deserving
of being initiated, because I have poured my heart into all of my brothers. There is no one group of
people that I would commit so much time to. Not only have I poured my heart into my brothers, but I
have committed endless hours to our pledgeship in trying to succeed, and be the best man I can be. I
have learned so much about each of my brothers, but even more about myself. I have learned that I
have to sacrifice more time for something I really want, even if that means not going out. I have
learned to push myself to succeed even more in academics, and so much more. I know these 10 weeks
is only a glimmer of what Beta will teach me these next years. I would do anything for this group of
guys. I have learned the true definition of brotherhood. Going into pledgeship, I thought these guys
would be just friends, but through the past 10 weeks, I have realized I have made new brothers that I
can always rely on. I can t wait to continue this bond. If I am initiated, I know I will be able to
contribute a lot to this fraternity. I love working with other people, and I think I would have endless
fun planning and doing things that would benefit Beta Theta Pi. One of my goals is to continue how
close I am

Analysis Of Kierkegaard s Fear And Trembling
There is no philosophical individual if there is no leap towards word of mouth. Kierkegaard
exemplifies such mocking rhapsodies in his piece Fear and Trembling . Scattered within are multiple
insults shot at individuals whom he wills deserving of it. Breezily crucifying ill mannered beliefs, and
rendering hopeless their application, Kierkegaard makes his first deprecatory stop at the gate of
objective and speculative philosophy. Objective thinkers are swerved by Kierkegaard as he states
When a cellar dweller plays this game everyone thinks it is ridiculous...ridiculous for the greatest man
in the world to do it. (Kierkegaard 32). A conclusion can be drawn that the philosopher sees objective
values as a tool with which existence can be understood an incorrect and confusing fantasy for who is
to write or complete such a system ? (Kierkegaard 29). Declaring the objective thinkers self equating
of one to the whole, a method attainable by any man and comical in his eyes. His criticism of the
aforementioned scholars doesn t stop here as he follows with a like minded observation of objective
Christianity. He preludes that individuals seeking to understand Christianity through objective
evidence, are not true believers for Herein lies the scholar s exalted equanimity as well as the comedy
of his parrot like pedantry. (Kierkegaard 34) The man who attains faith in this manner must remain
mindful of the dragon at the door which waits to devour it (Kierkegaard 35). Kierkegaard

My Struggles with English Composition Essay
My Struggles with English Composition
...As for all the seniors, I want you to challenge yourselves this year and don t think you re going to
cruise through to graduation. Mrs. Smith, County High School. Although some seniors in high school
refuse to take a hard schedule, I decided to take a challenging composition course my last year of high
school and learned more than ever before from it. My teacher, Mr. Bacz, focused mostly on
vocabulary, grammar, and how to right an essay. Each one of these subjects combined to give me a
year of hard work, which eventually paid off.
Since, I have always struggled in English, I thought this class was just going to be another hardship. It
s not that I ever got bad grades in English, it s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with vocabulary, grammar is another area in which I had problems. For instance, I was still
getting confused about proper sentence structure. I worked on this by completing a 30 page workbook
full of different sentences to assist me. From learning verbs to compound complex sentences the
worksheets covered it all. I was starting to realize this class and Mr. Horbacz were all about fine
tuning me for my big transition into college. The next thing I did was learn how to organize my
thoughts onto paper and write an essay. I knew how to write a basic five paragraph essay, but my skills
were limited. These are all things I struggled with at the beginning of the year, but soon I started to
grow in each area.
After the first couple of months, improvements in my school work were beginning to show, and I liked
it. My vocabulary abilities were revealing themselves as well. For example, when I would read
homework in other classes the words that would sometimes confuse me began to make sense. I would
also listen to other people s conversations on the street and it seemed as if the vocabulary words that I
had just studied the week before, could be heard. It was the weirdest thing. Likewise, my grammar
was developing nicely. For instance, when I would read books I could see the different ways sentences
were portrayed. Things that I never picked up before were coming to me so much easier. This class

Used Car Terminology
Whether you re looking to buy or sell a used car, you re going to hear many different terms. You ll
need to learn what goes into determining the price of a used car to understand how to negotiate the
best price for yourself too. This guide will help you when you re buying or selling a used car.
Terminology
Dealer Retail Price
The used car dealer will want to sell the vehicle at the highest possible price. It s the price listed on the
buying guide or on the windshield in bright numbers. The retail price isn t the last price that a dealer
will take. It s often the starting place for negotiations.
It s also a higher price than a person would receive on a trade in to the dealership. The dealer has to be
able to make a profit on the vehicle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s the price at the beginning of negotations. A private seller will often list their asking price when
selling a used car.
You can certainly ask a private seller if they are willing to negotiate. Some private sellers will tell you
in their advertisements if they re willing to negotiate. It ll have the price and the words or best offer
after them. This means they are willing to discuss the final selling price.
Blue Book Value
When someone mentions the blue book value of the car, they are referring to the Kelley Blue Book
value. It s a list of cars based on model, year and condition as well as trade in prices.
While some people believe it s a price set in stone, it s only a pricing guide. Consumer reports, the
National Automobile Dealers Association and VMR has pricing guides too. When you check several
of these sources, you can pin down a more accurate price for a vehicle.
Trade In Price
Dealers will often take an old used vehicle when you re purchasing a vehicle from them. The trade in
price is negotiable and is based on what the dealer would like to pay, not the price he d get for it when
selling.

The Involvement of the United States in Vietnam Essays
The Involvement of the United States in Vietnam
The single most important factor in understanding the United States involvement in Vietnam is fear. In
the years leading to the Vietnam Conflict the United States was immersed in paranoia toward
Communist Russia and the communist movement as a whole. This paranoia has its roots in the
depression of the nineteen thirties and was fueled by the exploits of men like MacCarthy and other
politicians who saw this as an opportunity to further their careers or push policies. This paranoia was
the most important factor in the entrance of the US into the conflict in Southeast Asia.
During the years proceeding World War II the United States found itself one of the two most powerful
nations in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a letter to Stalin from President Roosevelt on February 6, 1945 he wrote:
You must believe me when I tell you that our people at home look with a critical eye on what they
consider a disagreement between us at this vital stage of the war. They in effect say that if we cannot
get a meeting of minds now when our armies are converging on the common enemy, how can we get
an understanding on even more vital things in the future.
It was the growing mistrust of this relatively new communist nation that led to the eventual fear of a
global conflict between the two ideologies. This fear that was beginning to grip the American public
was not only due the increasing military threat of the Soviet Union but also for fear of another internal
economic crisis. The majority of the American population during this period directly experienced the
great depression of the nineteen thirties the prosperity that proceeded it. Now America was in a state
of postwar prosperity again and the standard of living had dramatically increased for the majority of
the American public over the past twenty years. This rising middle class now saw their improved
economic independence being threatened not only from a domestic economic disaster but also from a
new outside force, Communism. Communism to the American people was a threat to the American
dream, the American way of life, and most important to the basic freedoms and values that this
country was

Urbanization And Urbanization
Urbanization has been a universal huge ordeal that has been going on everywhere for some time now,
and puts a huge strain on infrastructure, economics, and the order of a society making it hard to
maintain sustainability. Urban Sprawl is the uncontrolled expansion of urban areas, and has recently
become an important issue here in Kennesaw Georgia. Urban Sprawl also known as Urbanization has
caused problems here such as air pollution, due to the amount of traffic daily, construction due to the
rapid growth, economic slowdowns, car accidents, etc. It is rare to travel to a location 10 miles away
in less than 30 minutes due to the abundance of traffic on the interstates and on the roads. The lines of
automobiles at red lights are outrageous, and it s common to see stand still traffic at green lights
because of road blockages from cars not moving efficiently due to the timing of traffic lights. All these
events: Lights not working efficiently, traffic backed up, and construction, has led to an increase in car
accidents due to confusion, which has contributed to traffic as you guessed, but the problem is in
many situations the ones injured have to wait for extended periods of times due to traffic, killing the
efficiency of local emergency services. The infrastructure here is definitely not considered efficient for
the population. The population in Kennesaw has increased nearly 35% since the year 2000 which is a
huge spike according to (kennesaw ga.gov.) This spike is due to

Race Theories And Its Consequences
Race has evolved through the scientific endeavor to forward knowledge, from a categorisation of
people based on geographic origin and physical traits, to a hierarchical concept that is used as a tool to
racially vilify, discriminate and marginalize particular races. The term race was introduced in the 16th
century and referred to a group category of people (Smedley, 1999). From then, the concept of race
was scrutinized and redefined by the western world. America bought about the concept of race present
in modern day, however the intellectual framework that served as a guide was European (Brace,
2005). Understanding of the evolution of race theories and its consequences are crucial to analyse how
contemporary Indigenous Peoples are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the use of visual art to portray ideas is more connected to Indigenous cultures than imposed
western political and academic settings. This essay will critically discuss the work of Carl Linnaeus,
Johann Friedrich Blumenbach and Charles Darwin in defining race and its application to Indigenous
Australians. Followed by, analysis of the works of contemporary artists, Richard Bell, Bindi Cole,
Bronwyn Bancroft, Daniel Boyd, Michael Riley, Gordon Bennett and Lin Onus in challenging the
effects social constructions of race have had on Indigenous peoples. These issues include authenticity,
homogenous stereotyping, racial hierarchy and discrimination.
Carolus Linnaeus (1707 78), a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist, is known for his taxonomic
system, which laid the foundations of the modern biological categorization (Brace, 2005). His
ambition was to make order the chaos of biological life based on distinctiveness and established
categories of generic and specific names. It divided humans into six categories; four based on
geographic location, and Homo ferus (wild man) and homo monstrosus (monster man) (Fish, 2011).
He further tried to make scientific sense of life by assigning traits to each of these categories. Racial
stereotyping has derived from this concept of Linnaeus taxonomy, with static conceptions of a
particular race that does not allow for individual variation and intergradations (Fish, 2011). Australia
was colonized at a time

  • 3. Reflection On Conflict Theory In this class, the idea of Conflict Theory was brought up very early on. I really enjoy the concept and find it incredibly useful when considering complex topics. Conflict theory, which was originally a concept in which Karl Marx is largely attributed, theorizes that conflict arises due to limited resources and the competition to secure those resources. The theory says that as long as there is a limit on how much of something there is (and since we all live on a giant ball that has a set amount of every resource, there always will be), then there will be people who fight to have control of it. For me, I find this theory in action everywhere, and I routinely use it as a logical deduction tool to deduce the underlying motivations of those around me. Whenever I see something strange happening around me, the first thing I do is ask myself: Who profits from this? How do they profit? Why would they do that? After that, I ask myself who else would want whatever is in question. For example, if I was asked to find a root cause for the ongoing conflict in the middle east, I would ask who benefits from it. Once I do that, I would probably find that a very large portion of the U.S. economy is derived from the import and export of petroleum, which is highly abundant in the area. In fact, if the U.S. were to lose the oil imported from the middle east, then disastrous wouldn t even come close to describing the economic turmoil that would ensue within the United States. From this, I would undoubtedly conclude that the U.S. ( some other European countries) are guilty of destabilizing the region in order to secure rights over their oil. But this theory does not just apply to global issues. The idea of conflict applies everywhere, from knowing what a possible future employer wants to hear, to understanding how much you are paying at the register when you go grocery shopping. In fact, both of these ideas had a large impact on how I landed my first job. When I was in high school, seniors were required to participate in a 200 hour internship at local businesses in order to graduate. It was during this time that I got an interview at a company known as Social Eyes Marketing as a website designer. In that interview, I was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Plebeians Underdogs Plebeians; The Underdogs of Rome There are multiple reasons why the Plebeians were important to Rome. They were the farmers, the tradesmen, and the soldiers. They did the brunt of the work. They were also the majority of Roman citizens. I will attempt to explain why the Plebeians were so important. Who were the Plebeians? What was their role in Rome? What occupation did they hold? How many of them were there? All important questions. The Plebeians were members of the general citizenry in ancient Rome as opposed to the privileged patrician class (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica., 2014). They were either conquered people who came to live in Rome and eventually became Romans, or people who sought refuge in Rome from political, criminal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Plebeians were underdogs, not appreciated until they were gone, the majority who were drowned out by the minority. Many of us can understand that. We have all been in the position of being the underdog, the one who did it all and never got the credit. Perhaps that is why, in history, the Plebeians are painted as victims and Patricians as power hungry, greedy noblemen. We feel like we can relate to them, and we do not feel we can relate to the Patricians. That makes me wonder, are we all just Plebeians, being controlled by a select few individuals who are lucky enough to be born into success or are we all Patricians, oppressing another group of people while believing we are the ... • 7. Awareness Fiction, Between Inner Life and Collective Memory. A Methodological Reflection. François Xavier Lavenne, Virginie Renard, François Tollet1 Introduction In the writing of their fictional works, novelists often have to reflect on the functioning of memory, for memory lies at the heart both of inner life and of human experience in general. It is indeed in the works of writers such as Marcel Proust or Jorge Luis Borges that the best exemplifications of the subjective experience of memory are to be found. However, from a strictly mnemonic point of view, literature provides more than a means of reflecting on memory: it is also the site of the rebirth and construction of individual and collective memories, which can then serve as a foundation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Memories were first attributed directly to a collective entity by Maurice Halbwachs in his epoch making La Mémoire Collective (The Collective Memory).5 This sociologist claims that all memory depends, on the one hand, of the group in which one lives and, on the other, to the status one holds in that group. To remember, one therefore needs to situate oneself within a current of collective thought.6 As a result, Halbwachs concludes that there are no purely individual memories, i.e. memories that would belong only to the individual, and of which the individual would be the unique source.7 We are therefore not the authentic subjects of attribution of our memories. Several writers have attempted to reconcile these conflicting on individual memory and collective memory. For example, Paul Ricoeur argues that memory does belong to the realm of interiority, for we see ourselves as the true possessors of our own memories.8 However, memory also involves the other and fully bears its mark.9 From its declarative phase, memory enters the public sphere because a testimony is always presented to, and received by, an other. Moreover, Ricoeur, following in the footsteps of Halbwach, asserts that peers can assist an individual in the work of remembering.10 He therefore draws the conclusion that memory processes involve both the individual and the group. Ricoeur thus differentiates among three different poles of attribution of memory: there exists, between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. U.s. Unilateralism And Military Intervention Throughout... This study of global politics will define the American Realism as a theoretical international relations approach to the problem of U.S. unilateralism and military intervention throughout the world. An exanimation of the post 9/11 era of the Bush Doctrine will define the premise of realism as a valid international relations theory that defines the unilateral invasion of Iraq in 2003. This aspect of the Bush Administrations use of military intervention in the 2000s has continued to expand under the Obama Administration. The theory of realism is based on the premise of self reliance , self interest, and a fear based form of aggressive policies that have been implemented in unilateral American wars. Realism can provide a foundation for the motivations of the American government to act without global cooperation or diplomacy with other nations, especially due to the massive economic and military power that it wields as the world s policeman. These factors define he conflict based politics of American military intervention and the unilateral polices that it continues to utilize on a global scale. In essence, an examination of the theory of realism in an international relations perspective will define the increasingly problematic American policies of military intervention and unilateralist policies on global politics. • 12. Social Darwinism Book Report Social Darwinism is the theory of evolution applied to human society. Social Darwinism was a term formed in the late 19th century to describe the idea that humans, like plants and animals, compete in a struggle for existence. The theory of evolution came about in 1859, when Charles Darwin, an English naturalist and geologist, published a book called, On the Origin of Species. The book talks about Darwin s theory of evolution by natural selection and survival of the fittest. Darwin believed that organisms change over time as a result of changes in physical or behavioral traits. One of Darwin s main points in his book was, Survival of the fittest. These were just a few business men that followed the idea of Social Darwinism. In the late 1820 s, Cornelius Vanderbilt went into business on his own, building steamships in the New York area, eventually becoming one of the largest steamship operators. In the 1860 s, the railroad industry was entering a period of great expansion, so he shifted his attention to make railroad transportation more efficient. Vanderbilt s goal was to control the steel industry. He bought out competitors and suppliers, giving him total power to set the cost of his product to what he wanted. Vanderbilt used the idea of Social Darwinism when he transferred from working the shipping to railroad business. He knew that if he kept his shipping business, it wouldn t be as profitable later on. That s why he invested his money, focus, and time into building a successful railroad industry. At a young age, John D. Rockefeller acted much like a young businessman, selling candy to local children and supporting his family. In 1870, Rockefeller established the Standard Oil Company of Ohio. He eventually controlled 90 percent of the refining business. With his large profits, he drove his competitors out of business by selling the oil cheaper than what it cost to produce the oil. After taking total control, he raised the price of oil to make his money back. In 1873, Andrew Carnegie entered the steel business and by 1899, the Carnegie Steel Company manufactured more steel than all the factories in Great Britain. Carnegie s success was to searching for ways to make better products more cheaply and hired chemists to improve the quality of the steel. He used a vertical integration which he bought out his suppliers, giving him total power of the cost and quality of his product. • 13. The Other Family By Himani Bannerji Individuals should learn to accept themselves for who they are, not what society wants them to accept. As we continue to evolve, we build up our own characters, and they are typically a mix of the ethnicity and culture we inherit from our family, various encounters in our life, distinctive identity and personality we have. Our character and identity is not something that we get easily, it s an intricate process. The story The Other Family by Himani Bannerji is based on a mother and a daughter who immigrates to Canada. They belong to a black family, but after the immigration they are living in the dominance of the white society. The school is considered as the hegemony of Canada and teacher is considered as the mainstream, it is a sort of social institution that a hegemony shape but they does not know the awareness of marginalized groups. The mother feels anxious when she sees a drawing of a white family by her daughter. It was the misperceptions of the kid that lead to forget her identity or she was too small to identify it. So to examine about the identity of the marginalized individual the beginning is to focus on the quality of the education. It is necessary for every school system to teach equality and inclusions of every group status so that the marginalized group are not left isolated from the society. Secondly, the fear of the marginalized parents from losing their kids in the mainstream society shows their lack of confidence in their own cultural pride. Since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She manipulated classical jazz with her hip hop influences and her strong unique voice with lyrics from her life experiences. These factors made her music unique and inspiring. Sadly in July of 2011, Amy passed away at the young age of twenty seven, leaving behind her musical legacy. Back to Black is one of her most popular albums that shows off her beautiful voice and thoughtful composition. Due to its unique traits in modern music, it will continue to be played. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think this album is marvelous for a few reasons, one being her lyrics. The lyrics express struggles within Amy s life that can be considered controversial. Amy would express and confront her troubles in a fearless way within each song, which makes her music even more wonderful. In the documentary film, Amy, they quoted her saying, I wouldn t write anything unless it was directly personal to me, just cause I wouldn t be able to tell the story right because I wouldn t have done it. Even though the songs are personal, in a sad way, I d never let it just be that. I d always put in a punch line in the song just trying to be different with my lyrics (Winehouse). She spoke the truth and showed her sincere attitude, which made her vulnerable, but made her real and unique. Amy s main experience that effected the lyrics that she wrote was her ordeal with her ex husband Blake. Her experience with Blake was clearly shown in the song Back to Black when Amy sang You went back to what you knew, so far removed from all that we went through (Winehouse), which conveys the way Amy felt when Blake left her to go back to his girlfriend. Another reason why I believe this album is outstanding is due to Amy s powerful and distinctive voice. Her voice is strong and charismatic. Her vocal style compares to that of a sixties soul singer. Amy s tone and mood is expressed clearly through her voice. Even when she wasn t singing her lyrics, the sounds she made within her songs expressed the mood. Her voice glints with possibility: tart, smoky, ready to flirt or sob, and capable of the jazzy timing of a Dinah Washington or the declamation of soul singers like Martha Reeves and Carla Thomas (Pareles). The main reason why I find this album most successful is that there is no other album out there that sounds similar. The site was built in the 15th century but was later abandoned, Machu Picchu is renowned for its sophisticated dry stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of a motor and intriguing buildings. Machu Picchu has polished dry stone walls, three primary structures which are the Intihuatana, the temple of the sun, the room of the three windows. Many of the outlying building structures have been reconstructed in order to give the tourist a better idea of how the structures originally appeared. Machu Picchu lies in the southern hemisphere at 13.164 degrees south of the equator. Archaeologists believe that Machu Picchu was constructed as an estate for the Inca emperor, which can often be mistakenly referred to as the Lost City of the Incas . The site was built in a classical Inca style. By 1976, thirty percent of Machu Picchu had been restored and the restoration has continued. The film focuses around the main character of the story, Jefferies, who is a photographer but unfortunately recently has to use a wheelchair and stay in an apartment because he broke his leg. Jeff has to spend time alone, so he spends his time watching his neighbors through his camera. Due to the warmth of summer most people had to open their window so now Jefferies can see what is happening in their life. It s like he is watching multiple films at the same time. A free cinema for Jefferies. The view of that window and Jefferies s apartment is all the viewers have. We spent the whole time in the main protagonist s apartment. His apartment is in Greenwich Village, New York City. The camera never leaves his apartment because Jeff can t leave his own apartment. Which limits it to one room and the view out of his rear window. Alfred Hitchcock really wants to put us in Jefferies s shoes, that s why the camera never leaves his apartment and we are bound to see outside from his point of view. The camera man uses shots zooming, which make the film look more realistic and makes it seem like we are viewing this through Jeff s perspective. Porter argues that if a firm is to attain competitive advantage; it must choose between the types of competitive advantage it seeks, discuss using an industrial example? An industry can be defined as a group of companies offering products that are closely substituting for each other in order to satisfy customers. Competitive advantage can be defined as when a firm sustains profit which exceeds the company s average; it automatically possesses competitive advantage over rivals. The business strategy for most companies is to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Porter states that there are 2 types of competitive advantage a firm can possess as mentioned above however , there are 3 generic strategies for achieving competitive advantage in an industry; cost advantage/leadership, differentiation and focus. The first type of competitive advantage is cost advantage /leadership, it is when a firm becomes low cost producer in its industry. It minimizes the cost to the organization of delivering products and services. According to Porter (1985) , there are two ways of achieving cost leadership either by increasing profit by reducing costs while charging the average price. Or by increasing market share through charging lower prices while still achieving a reasonable profit on each sale because your cost has been reduced. Furthermore, companies that are successful in achieving cost leadership usually have an access to the capital needed to invest in technology which helps reduce the cost. Also, they have very efficient logistics and a low cost base such as labor, materials and facilities (Ibid, 1985). Essentially, if a firm can achieve and maintain cost leadership, it can obtain above average performance whilst the prices are still affordable in that industry. Hence, the cost leader does not try to be the industry innovator, it seeks to position its products to appeal to the average customer taste. The aimed goal is to increase efficiency and lower its costs in relation to competitors. Some of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It hit most of the questionable topics that are mostly unspeakable now. Avatar is a spectacular movie written and directed by James Cameron. The movie is set in a breathtaking alien world called Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na vi race. At first, they are viewed as a primitive wild, race but in reality they are more highly evolved than the audience would expect. Because of the rich properties that the land Pandora holds, it attracted the Resources Development Admiration (RDA) Company. They at first were viewed purely as a research company but that was not their only intention. Because of the toxic air in Pandora, the RDA Corporation developed a hybrid mixture of humans and the Na vi to be able to live and move around Pandora. This hybrid form is known as Avatar. As one of the Avatars falls in love with a Na vi he obligates himself to help save her world. James Cameron uses this movie to show the inhumane activities from our history, which suggests the story may be a metaphor: Avatar, as a metaphor, has a compelling message which reinforces a strong theme of imperialism; the message suggests a dangerous precedence of invasion, exploitation, and greed. For years the king had lived in alienation and separation, under divine displeasure (2Ki. 15:5; 2Ch. 26:16ff.), and as his death approached he remained, to the human eye, uncleansed. Thus, Uzziah, as the darkness of death closed in upon him, was symbolic of Isaiah s view of the nation, its plight and its problems. Another question that arises during the reading of this narrative is, what is the tension between the prophetic office and the political position? Again, as stated before, this is unusual behavior for a prophet to make mention during the time of his call. I can understand that Isaiah is possibly standing in the office of priest during this time but how does this transitional calling influence the people around and the culture of the social climate. In looking into the later parts of the vision, it could be possible that the position of God sitting on a throne is a revelation that mirrors God being identified as Lord and moving Isaiah from one office of responsibility to the next. Next Isaiah gives a picture description of the beginning part of the vision. He references God sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and his train feeling the Temple . This for some scholars has given implication that Isaiah is present in the Temple during the time of the vision, thus suggesting that he is also a priest during the time of his call. Does it really cause conflict, violence, poverty, injustice and any other ill in the world? Kinship is what happens to us when we refuse to let that happen. • 38. Environmental Problems In New Orleans Chapter 13 Environmental Problems and Reading 53 Essay Aubrey Rife The main purpose of chapter thirteen was to focus on the environmental problems that play a key role on all living things across the globe on a daily basis. In reading 53 it brings up the past by analyzing Hurricane Katrina and the effects it had on the citizens of New Orleans. The reading also brought up things that most usually look past, it brought to light the racism and social structure of New Orleans and the role it played on such a tragic event. In the reading it opened up my eyes on how race and class played such a major part on the residents of New Orleans when it came to Katrina. In reading chapter thirteen I learned the effects humans have had on the environment. We hear it all the time that We re destroying our planet and need to think green. But seeing in black and white we ve done to our environment in just the past sixty five years is scary. We are rapidly reducing our natural resources. Just in the past sixty five years people around the world have used more natural resources then the millions of years before 1950. Count Olaf even puts fake makeup on his tattoo so that the kids don t see it at first, but then Mr. Poe erases the makeup. On page 173, it says, At first, nothing appeared to happen, but then, like a sun shining through clouds at the end of a terrible rainstorm, the faint outline of the eye tattoo began to appear. Clearer and clearer it grew until it was as dark as it had been when the orphans first saw it, back when they had lived with Count Olaf. In the middle of the book, before Mr. Poe knew that the children were telling the truth, he thought they were lying about Stephano being Count Olaf. Located on page 114, Mr. Poe wants the kids to go with Stephano into his car. Klaus firmly says no. I have learned so much about each of my brothers, but even more about myself. I have learned that I have to sacrifice more time for something I really want, even if that means not going out. • 41. Analysis Of Kierkegaard s Fear And Trembling There is no philosophical individual if there is no leap towards word of mouth. Kierkegaard exemplifies such mocking rhapsodies in his piece Fear and Trembling . Scattered within are multiple insults shot at individuals whom he wills deserving of it. Breezily crucifying ill mannered beliefs, and rendering hopeless their application, Kierkegaard makes his first deprecatory stop at the gate of objective and speculative philosophy. Objective thinkers are swerved by Kierkegaard as he states When a cellar dweller plays this game everyone thinks it is ridiculous...ridiculous for the greatest man in the world to do it. (Kierkegaard 32). A conclusion can be drawn that the philosopher sees objective values as a tool with which existence can be understood an incorrect and confusing fantasy for who is to write or complete such a system ? (Kierkegaard 29). Declaring the objective thinkers self equating of one to the whole, a method attainable by any man and comical in his eyes. His criticism of the aforementioned scholars doesn t stop here as he follows with a like minded observation of objective Christianity. He preludes that individuals seeking to understand Christianity through objective evidence, are not true believers for Herein lies the scholar s exalted equanimity as well as the comedy of his parrot like pedantry. I worked on this by completing a 30 page workbook full of different sentences to assist me. From learning verbs to compound complex sentences the worksheets covered it all. I was starting to realize this class and Mr. Horbacz were all about fine tuning me for my big transition into college. The next thing I did was learn how to organize my thoughts onto paper and write an essay. I knew how to write a basic five paragraph essay, but my skills were limited. These are all things I struggled with at the beginning of the year, but soon I started to grow in each area. After the first couple of months, improvements in my school work were beginning to show, and I liked it. My vocabulary abilities were revealing themselves as well. For example, when I would read homework in other classes the words that would sometimes confuse me began to make sense. I would also listen to other people s conversations on the street and it seemed as if the vocabulary words that I had just studied the week before, could be heard. It was the weirdest thing. The Involvement of the United States in Vietnam Essays The Involvement of the United States in Vietnam The single most important factor in understanding the United States involvement in Vietnam is fear. In the years leading to the Vietnam Conflict the United States was immersed in paranoia toward Communist Russia and the communist movement as a whole. This paranoia has its roots in the depression of the nineteen thirties and was fueled by the exploits of men like MacCarthy and other politicians who saw this as an opportunity to further their careers or push policies. This paranoia was the most important factor in the entrance of the US into the conflict in Southeast Asia. In a letter to Stalin from President Roosevelt on February 6, 1945 he wrote: You must believe me when I tell you that our people at home look with a critical eye on what they consider a disagreement between us at this vital stage of the war. They in effect say that if we cannot get a meeting of minds now when our armies are converging on the common enemy, how can we get an understanding on even more vital things in the future. It was the growing mistrust of this relatively new communist nation that led to the eventual fear of a global conflict between the two ideologies. This fear that was beginning to grip the American public was not only due the increasing military threat of the Soviet Union but also for fear of another internal economic crisis. The majority of the American population during this period directly experienced the great depression of the nineteen thirties the prosperity that proceeded it. • 45. Urbanization And Urbanization Urbanization has been a universal huge ordeal that has been going on everywhere for some time now, and puts a huge strain on infrastructure, economics, and the order of a society making it hard to maintain sustainability. Urban Sprawl is the uncontrolled expansion of urban areas, and has recently become an important issue here in Kennesaw Georgia. Urban Sprawl also known as Urbanization has caused problems here such as air pollution, due to the amount of traffic daily, construction due to the rapid growth, economic slowdowns, car accidents, etc. It is rare to travel to a location 10 miles away in less than 30 minutes due to the abundance of traffic on the interstates and on the roads. The lines of automobiles at red lights are outrageous, and it s common to see stand still traffic at green lights because of road blockages from cars not moving efficiently due to the timing of traffic lights. All these events: Lights not working efficiently, traffic backed up, and construction, has led to an increase in car accidents due to confusion, which has contributed to traffic as you guessed, but the problem is in many situations the ones injured have to wait for extended periods of times due to traffic, killing the efficiency of local emergency services. The infrastructure here is definitely not considered efficient for the population. The population in Kennesaw has increased nearly 35% since the year 2000 which is a huge spike according to (kennesaw ga.gov.) This spike is due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Race Theories And Its Consequences Race has evolved through the scientific endeavor to forward knowledge, from a categorisation of people based on geographic origin and physical traits, to a hierarchical concept that is used as a tool to racially vilify, discriminate and marginalize particular races. The term race was introduced in the 16th century and referred to a group category of people (Smedley, 1999). From then, the concept of race was scrutinized and redefined by the western world. America bought about the concept of race present in modern day, however the intellectual framework that served as a guide was European (Brace, 2005). Therefore, the use of visual art to portray ideas is more connected to Indigenous cultures than imposed western political and academic settings. This essay will critically discuss the work of Carl Linnaeus, Johann Friedrich Blumenbach and Charles Darwin in defining race and its application to Indigenous Australians. Followed by, analysis of the works of contemporary artists, Richard Bell, Bindi Cole, Bronwyn Bancroft, Daniel Boyd, Michael Riley, Gordon Bennett and Lin Onus in challenging the effects social constructions of race have had on Indigenous peoples. These issues include authenticity, homogenous stereotyping, racial hierarchy and discrimination. Carolus Linnaeus (1707 78), a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist, is known for his taxonomic system, which laid the foundations of the modern biological categorization (Brace, 2005). His ambition was to make order the chaos of biological life based on distinctiveness and established categories of generic and specific names. It divided humans into six categories; four based on geographic location, and Homo ferus (wild man) and homo monstrosus (monster man) (Fish, 2011). He further tried to make scientific sense of life by assigning traits to each of these categories. Racial stereotyping has derived from this concept of Linnaeus taxonomy, with static conceptions of a particular race that does not allow for individual variation and intergradations (Fish, 2011).
