The Stamford Prison Experiment
This essay is an investigation of the application from the Zimbardo Stanford Prison Experiment to
some similar scenarios that demonstrate the same or similar findings found within the Stamford
Prison Experiment that were influenced by external factors and influences. The Stamford Prison
Experiment was conducted to investigate how subtle people are to conform to roles of the guard
and prisoner in a mock prisonenvironment and if the behaviours were influenced by the
environment or by sadistic personalities of guards (McLeod, 2016). There are several factors that
influence good guards to not question orders from bad guards and a few of these factors will be
outlined in this essay. The first topic that will be discussed is the similarities of... Show more content

A position of authority especially in a prison environment or regulating the public brings along
strict guidelines how one must exert this position of power (Cruz, 2015). This strict line of how
to act if someone has a high authoritative position can restrict those whom may oppose certain
acts against people. American police are given an expectation of being patient, wise, honest and
brave in the face of danger (Petrova, 2014). However, in light of this there is an expectation of
the fight or flight response that police are to fight not fleeing. These attitudes of fight instead of
fleeing in the face of dangerous or unknown situations has influenced American police to be
more inclined to use lethal force when one would usually not, because they are not in a position
of authority and power (Petrova, 2014). This is similar behavior found in the Stamford Prison
Experiment guards as that the guards, when given authority and power felt more inclined to start
using more aggressive behaviors and misconduct towards the prisoners because they were the
ones that must be submissive (McLeod, 2016). However, unlike that of the Stanford Prison
Experiment where the guards were randomly selected, American police and many law
enforcement agencies throughout the world are hired to be ethical, reasonable and understanding
of safety of their work (Petrova, 2014). This should have trained the American police to not to act
in ways of excessive force however their position of authority and power gives a perceived
blanket of immunity allowing them to be more free to exercise excessive force sometimes going
beyond just enforcing the law (Petrova, 2014). Position and power were two factors that were also
explored in Stamford Prison Experiment, which has identified similarities to American police,
misconduct using

Taking a Look at Lactation
Lactation, as well as the mammary glands by which mothers provide their young with milk, have
long been regarded as an exclusive and defining trait of the vertebrate class Mammalia. In fact,
Linnaeus himself outfitted our own phylogenetic class with this name because they possess
mammae (Gregory 1910). How such complex methods of delivering nourishment to young
evolved in the first place has always been a hotly contested topic. Breasts, teats, and nipples are all
soft tissue, so they cannot be directly observed in the fossil record. What original structures
evolved into mammary glands? Did all mammals have them? Is it possible that our reptilian
ancestors (or rather, our common ancestor with modern reptiles) also lactated? This paper examines
the work of paleontologists, evolutionary biologists, and geneticists of the last 120 years to try to
gain some insight into these questions, and whether they can ever be truly answered.
Before delving into the origins of lactation, one must understand the basic progression of
mammalian evolution from our last common ancestor with reptiles to the modern placental mammal
. The last common ancestors diverged into two groups: synapsids and sauropsids. Synapsids are
the ancestors of mammals and their extinct relatives (often called mammal like reptiles) while
sauropsids went on to become reptiles and birds (Oftedal 2002). The two clades were distinguished
by characteristics of their skulls. Synapsids branched out into many different types,

My High School Spring Fling
The ritual that I have chosen to write about is my old High School Spring Fling. Music, food,
dancing, and punch sounds like a night of fun. that what you call university high school spring
fling. It s a spring party that happens in late April. Students and teachers have a half of day that
ends at 12 pm. We all go off to the gym for the remaining of the day to have fun. this day party is
hosted by the upcoming senior class in hopes to help raise money for the current senior class. They
throw this party so that the money that is raised helps pay for any last minute things for the current
senior class. All the staff and students but attend and they must wear the school colors as well. The
upcoming senior class always sell snacks and drinks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal is for individuals to feel apart and feel like one or as the school as one. The school
wanted to make sure that they have this spring fling in a safe environment. He also speaks about
rituals and values and I think it relates to the spring fling. I think it relates because we wear the
school colors to promote pride and to show that we value the school that we attend. Everyone is
in attendance so that s how we know who is valued and respected in both regards to the student
and the staff. Which is what Collins was saying in his essay the group must assemble which is
what we do when the spring fling is held every year. This event shows that we are a unity and that
we are equal in our own Phoenix community. You have grades mixing with other grade, teachers
mixing with other teachers and it s the maybe only time you see the principle or leader of the
school relaxed and enjoying himself. This spring fling is the tradition.
A spring fling is an event that all four years of my high school I really enjoyed. It was something
that most individuals and even myself really looked forward to everywhere. I looked forward to
meeting new students, teachers and just being able to feel the unity. It felt as If we were one big
tight family. Studies may show that the average kid spends most of their time at school. Which I
see to be very true because school is where I spent 8 hours of my day. In that school, I felt the
solidarity that Collins speak about in his

Eating Disorders in Adolescents
Eating Disorders in Adolescents
Eating Disorders in Adolescents
Introduction
Eating disorder in adolescents is a source of grave alarm. An effective definition of eating
disorders, as they are evident in school surroundings, describes victim of eating disorder as being
extensively anxious and conscious about food, weight, and body shape. This results in being
engaged in strange eating behaviors (Gowers Bryant Waugh, 2004). This paper seeks to investigate
the effects of eating disorders on adolescent s life and education and comprehensive school based
model of interventions is suggested for the prevention and treatment of this disorder.
The Effect of an Eating Disorder
Two of the most common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa and they have
a prospective to effect on the person experiencing this disorder on lasting physical health, social,
emotional, and cognitive development. These disorders can sometimes prove to be a great threat
to life. Many adolescents are forced to postpone their schooling even as they search for treatment.
Therefore this amplifies the likely harmful effects of their situation on their social and cognitive
development. It is very much possible that with the passage of time the condition of eating disorder
will aggravate and it will become more obvious and will ultimately affect their moods and physical
health (Hoek Hoeken, 2003). The imbalanced and inadequate diet affects the adolescent s brains
and cognitive function

College Essay On Peer Pressure
Eyeballing the Gatorade bottle as it became full of smoke, I knew I had caved into peer pressure.
Peer pressure can be a big obstacle for lots of teens. Although peer pressure can sometimes be a
positive, it is often harmful and damaging. That type of negative influence from one s peers can
lead them to try things they usually would have no interest in trying. When I was about to turn
thirteen, I learned just how true my previous statement was. All it took for me to experience peer
pressure for the first time was a couple of grams of marijuana.
When I was younger, I would spend most of my summer nights playing video games with my
friends. Most nights, you would find me with one friend in particular, and that friend was (at the
time) sixteen year old Kevin Gomez. I would walk to Kevin s house since he lived a couple of
minutes away from me. This night however, Kevin and I agreed to meet at his aunt s house due to
her being on vacation.
Sitting on his aunt s beige couches that had been wrapped in plastic, we had begun the night the
exact way we had begun any other night, by playing video games. We were roughly an hour into
our gaming session, when from the corner of my eye I spotted Kevin reaching for something from
inside his right pocket. He pulled out what appeared to be a tiny plastic bag. The moment he
opened the bag I knew exactly what he had brought with him. Instantly the smell of skunk had filled
my nostrils.

Emily Dickinson Punctuation

Dickinson s Riddle
Emily Dickinson died before her works were attempted to be analyzed and interpreted, suggesting
perhaps that the mysteries, abstractions, and double meanings were for her own enjoyment, and
all answers if there were any died with her ( Explanation ). Glimpsing at just a few of Dickinson s
poems is sure to catch the eye of a reader, posing questions of grammatical soundness. Capital
letters, dots, and dashes appear consistently, but maybe there is a reason behind it all. Emily
Dickinson uses punctuation in a non traditional way throughout her poems, contributing to the effect
and meaning of her works, such as My Life had stoodп‚ѕa Loaded Gunп‚ѕ, After great pain, a
formal feeling comesп‚ѕ, and Wild Nightsп‚ѕWild Nights!
Emily Dickinson employs commonly used punctuation marks in an uncommon way, riddling many
of her poems. Emily Dickinson s poems, like inlay, tend to be made of splinters of thought and
sight, often brilliant fragments, held together by a mosaic sense of pattern, joined irregularly by
dashes (Wilner). Although dashes appear the most, some works also contain explanation marks.
Exclamation marks in Dickinson s poems suggest strong feeling in her thoughts, interjecting
passion and excitement throughout. The punctuation used by the author enhances her works and
helps to draw in her audience.
Dickinson s My Life had stoodп‚ѕ a Loaded Gunп‚ѕ contains en dashes from beginning to end,

How to Make Mexican Dish Pozole Essay
When most people hear the word Mexican , a person instantly thinks of food. This is because
Mexicans have been known through out America as a culture to have a variety of some of the
best dishes. Hispanics males take pride in working, just as the females take pride in cooking.
The women don t do it just for the heck of it, they make a form of art and also competition. Every
Mexican family has a person who competes with another, to see who can make the best dish.
Mexicans have different dishes from soups to rice. The one soup you will here in the Mexican

You will need to buy the following items, 1 10oz bag of chile ancho, 1 10oz bag of chile guaillo,
20 lbs of trisitos de puerco, 2 large cans of hominy, 2 lbs of espinazo, and 2 whole garlic cloves.
To give it seasoning you must also have salt, onion, bay leaves, and oregano. In order to cook
and mix all these items you must have one 1 large pot, 2 small pots, and a blender. These are all
the ingredients that you will need to cook pozole. If you are not able to find all the items at your
local grocery store, feel free to go to a Mexican restaurant to purchase them. They might be able
to sell you some of the items. First, you spread out your ingredients on the table, open up all the
packages. Then you get your pot and fill it up with water, halfway to the top. Take your meat,
place it in the pot and let it boil for three hours until its tender. Be sure to add lots of salt to the
meat, this will help tenderize the meat. Peel and clean all the chiles (anchos and guaillo), make
sure you remove all the seeds and the veins. If you have sensitive eyes or skin, I would advise
that you get some gloves and don t touch your eyes (they are very hot and will dye your skin red
and burn). Then take the chiles and pass them through a pan of oil. Boil the chiles in a separate pot
from the meat. After this put the chiles in a blender and blend them with the four cloves of garlic

God Is The Pure Essence Of Perfect
No one on this Earth is perfect, only our God is the pure essence of perfect. With God s love and
perfection He is able to use us, the imperfect, to carry out His will. We have all sinned and
continue to ask for forgiveness when needed. Although we are not perfect, God still has a plan
for our lives and it is our duty to follow out His will. In the Old Testament there are books of
history, which discuss God s use of some imperfect individuals to accomplish His purpose for
Israel. There are twelve books exactly that deal with the history of the nation of Israel and how
God accomplished His goals. These twelve books are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel,
1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. These books share a
prophetic view of history describing how the obedience or disobedience of God s people is
directly tied to the blessings and curses of the covenant. The first of these books is Joshua. In
this book, the possession of the land by the nation is the main point. It tells us the story of Israel
s arrival at Canaan, otherwise known as the Promise Land, while under the leadership of Joshua.
God appoints Joshua as a leader and that he will never leave him or forsake him. Joshua stood
strong in his faith, his obedience to God, and he was courageous. So although Joshua was one out
of many men that were not apparently flawed, this book is a foundation for all that was to come.
The second book of history was Judges. The Book of Judges is

A Reflection On Being Stereotyped In Nursing
Reflection on being stereotyped I have loved the nursing profession since childhood, and if I
wanted something more in my life in terms of career, it was to help people around me on
different ways. At that time I had no idea how my future will look like. Therefore, when me and
my family decided to emigrate in the U.S. I had in my mind the idea to continue my career. After
all the tests that I supposed to take, I got finally my RN license and I start looking for a place to
work. I must to say that wasn t so easy, because even if I sent a lot of resumes to different
facilities, I was hardly called to an interview, or I had a few telephone interviews. After few
weeks of waiting, I finally got a phone call from one nursing home in the area, and after a few
questions, the person who contacted me invited me to an interview. When I arrived at the
facility, the DON was waiting for me and she had my resume in front of her, on her desk. She
asked me a lot of questions about my background, my experience as a nurse, and what are my
expectation in this job. I worked in Romania almost 14 years as a nurse and in my opinion I can
adapt myself ease to the new conditions. I was surprised that after all the time I spent in her
office, the DON told me she was impressed by me, but she can not give me the job because I do
not have American experience. It was not the first time when I heard this phrase, but I felt like I
had no value, that all the work I have done to get the RN license was in vain. I felt that all the
sky was falling over me because in this case, without the American experience, I had no chance
to find a job in the field I loved so much. Generally speaking, I am a silent person and often quit
the fight at the first hurdle. But in this situation, I chose to continue fighting, because I
considered the DON s answer to be a stereotype. She considered that if I did not do American
school I do not have the necessary knowledge to work in a nursing home. I understood that she
didn t know anything about my country and what kind of school I did to become a nurse, but
little by little, after all I told her about my job in Romania, which were my responsibilities there, I
asked her to give me a chance, to offer me the job

Motivation In Beowulf Essay
Beowulf s Motives
(A Discussion on Beowulf s Motivation to Kill the Three Monsters)
The story of Beowulf, as many call it was originally an epic poem. This poem is known
worldwide and with reason. Being presented for the first time, sometime before 1000 BC. Its also
known as the most important Greek poem ever. Alongside the well known Iliad. Both are known
as epic poems which are passed down orally but are considered long narratives. Beowulf is the
earliest of any epic poem of that time period. Beowulf being the main character, travels from his
home land to a foreign country, where they have been ravaged by a monster named grendel.
Which leads to another monster which is Grendel s mother. The poem ends with Beowulf killing
his last monster, a dragon. But the reader is met with the question why did he do all of this?
Beowulf s motivations in the epic poem Beowulf are presented as his duty to do so, for the fame
and glory, and to sacrifice himself for the betterment of others.
In the epic poem Beowulf, Beowulf s first motivation, that the reader is presented, is his anglo
saxon sense of duty. The anglo saxon code is a very large factor in this epic poem as it is what
Beowulf lives his life after. But Beowulf s sense of duty calls him to ... Show more content on

Summary Of Jhumpa Lahiri s Unaccustomed Earth
Coming Together and Drifting Apart As individuals grow older, the relationship they have with
others can either become stronger or weaker. The story between Hema and Kaushik s connection in
Jhumpa Lahiri s Unaccustomed Earth shows an example of two childhood acquaintances, who have
known each other since their youth, and how distant they had become throughout the years. The
sad reality of losing someone that is close through death or disconnection, creates a life of loneliness
that affects the characters throughout these stories. The awkwardness between Hema and Kaushik

The enraged Kaushik states, I was furious that you had told me, and that you had not told me,
feeling at one burdened and betrayed, hating you all over again ( Once in a Lifetime 251). Although
their relationship did not last long, it is the undeniable truth that the two became close, despite
being forced to live with each other. In the second story, Year s End told in Kaushik s point of
view, it shows the result of losing loved ones and the inability to adapt to change. The
relationship of Kaushik and his father is affected due to the event of his mother s passing.
Kaushik was unsure which was worse the idea of remarrying for love, or actively seeking out a
stranger for companionship ( Year s End 255). This scene represents Kaushik s persistent view
that there is no family outside of the one he grew up with. As Kaushik s college graduation
approaches, it is clear that he still did not make amends with his stepfamily when he states that,
the girls were polite to me, respectful to the fact that it was my day, but at the same time it was as
if we d never met ( Year s End 293). To conclude, Kaushik is bounded by his relationship with his
mother and her attachment to his everyday life hinders any potential connections with his father
and new stepfamily. The last of the three stories, Going Ashore , shows how Kaushik and Hema
were able to meet and rekindle the relationship that they had back then. A sense of meeting again or

The Government Should Mandate Helmet Use for All Cyclists
Cuts, bruises and even broken bones will heal, but damage to your brain can last a lifetime. You
can prevent possible injuries from unforeseen disasters such as smacking the street, sidewalk,
curb, a car, tree or anything else around you by using safety precautions. In some cases, we are
required to use safety measures, while in others we are merely advised. For instance, while driving
an automobile, the law requires for all occupants in the vehicle to wear safety belts. The reason for
this law is because without using such cautiousness, fatal accidents would be more frequent. In the
same respects, safety should be required for bicycle and motorcycle riders. Various injuries... Show

Although you should take other safety measures when cycling, a helmet is by far the most important
and most effective piece of protective equipment a cyclist can wear. In the event of a traffic
accident, wearing a helmet saves lives by reducing the extent of a head injury because when you
fall or crash, your helmet absorbs much of the force of impact that would otherwise hurt your
head ( Helmet Use ). The thick plastic foam also know as firm polystyrene inside the hard outer
shell of your helmet, crushes to cushion the blow during an accident ( Motorcycle Accidents ).
The helmet takes the hit instead of your head. Each year, even minor bicycle and motorcycle
accidents kill hundreds of people in the United States and cause brain damage and other injuries
to more than half a million riders ( Why should we wear helmets? ).Buying a helmet is one of the
best investments a person can make. Bicycle shops and discount department stores offer many
models of helmets, priced around $20.00. Even with wide availability of inexpensive helmets and
proper information on how and why to use them, it is estimated that only approximately half of
over eighty million bike riders wear their helmet all the time ( Why should we wear helmets? ). As a
result of the diminutive amount of helmets worn in the United States, many accidents are fatal.
Each year, bike related crashes kill about nine hundred people and injure 567,000 others and an
average of 166,000 Americans are

Ulcerative Colitis Research Papers
Imagine being told that you could never eat another ice cream cone. When someone is
diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, there is a litary of foods that should be avoided. Ulcerative
colitis is described as a chronic inflammatory disease that causes inflammation and swelling in
the large intestine. People have tiny ulcers and small holes in their colon and rectum. This causes
bloody stools and diarrhea. While having colitis the patient can go through periods of flare ups
and remission. Remission is when the disease seems to be gone and all symptoms go away but
can reappear at any time. Colitis can be referred to as inflammatory bowel disease or IBD.

There are many different medicines that can be used to treat colitis and it all depends on the
patient s condition. For some, simply just changing their diet can decrease the severity of colitis.
Others require surgery to fix their condition. First doctors have to diagnose the disease. Colitis
can be diagnosed in various ways. This includes laboratory tests, endoscopy, and/or barium enema
x ray. Also it can be diagnosed based on medical history, physical examination, or a biopsy of the
colon tissue. The most common ways are blood tests, stool samples, CT scans, colonoscopy,
sigmoidoscopy, and pill camera (WebMD 1). Your doctor may order one or more of these tests to
distinguish that you have colitis. Once it is determined that one has colitis the various treatment
options are put into effect. First drug therapy is used to try and lessen symptoms or put patients into
remission, a period of time where the patient experiences no pain and temporarily feels normal
again. The four main types of drugs used for treating colitis are aminosalicylates, corticosteroids,
immunosuppressants, and biologic agents (Cleveland Clinic 2). Aminosalicylates main purpose is
to reduce inflammation and prevent relapses and keep people in remission. The standard
aminosalicylates drug is sulfasalazine. This drug combines the 5 ASA drug mesalamine with
sulfapyridine, a sulfa antibiotic. While

Voodoo In African-American Culture
In American popular culture, the word voodoo has become synonymous with macabre imagery and
the practice of dark magic. This notion is evident in the portrayal of voodoo in movies, music,
literature, and on the Internet. Voodoo is often inaccurately used as a single term to refer to a
number of different African Diasporic religions, including West African Vodun, Hatian Vodou, and
American Voodoo. Also included is hoodoo, an African American folk magic that has gradually
supplanted American Voodoo since the early 19th century. Hoodoo itself is not a religion
, although
it does borrow elements from both African and European religions and shares a historical
connection with Vodun, Vodou, and Voodoo.

Both hoodoo and Voodoo are found throughout contemporary American society. Most notable is
the imagery of Voodoo, which is appealing for a variety of reasons, specifically the dark themes.
As stated by author Yvonne P. Chireau, Voodoo, as it is used in the American context, connotes an
illicit form of spirituality, and many images have been used to bolster the notorious associations
between it, racial blackness, and evil magic (8). In addition to this, hoodoo and Voodoo are often

true nature of hoodoo and the religious tradition of Voodoo. Despite these inconsistencies with
reality, the focus on the darker elements and the problematic identification seems to create even

Siddhartha Gautama and His Religious Development
Siddhartha Gautama, who became the Buddha or the enlightened one was born about 560 BC and

eastern India, an area which followed the Hindu religious tradition, which was, in those days a great

Indian society was then divided up by the Hindu caste system. The highest caste were the Brahmins

He then tried living in the forest with Sadhus who tried to become better spiritually by living very
simply. He lived this way for six years and nearly starved himself to death, but did not find an

He was now 35 years old, and had not found an answer to the question of suffering. Siddhartha
decided to sit under a tree and meditate until he had an answer. The tree he sat under was a papal
tree.
The first thing that happened as he sat under the tree was that a devil figure called Mara tried to
frighten him away from his meditation. The story then goes that the Hindu earth goddess
Vasundhara appeared and helped him. The devil then left and Siddhartha carried on meditating until
he became enlightened, and experienced the peace of Nirvana. He had found a whole new way of

Siddhartha now became called the Buddha, or enlightened one. He decided he had to tell other
people how to overcome suffering and find peace. The first people he told were the Sadhus he had

The Buddha then started to travel and spread his ideas. During his lifetime there were two kinds of

How do we explore getting more in the deal than what was originally discussed? Some may not
feel making the deal should mean adding more to it than the original bargain There is a lot of,
what is in it for me? And what do we get out of this deal? Negotiation deals have either
integrative or distributive properties. What are the contrasts between these two styles and what
are their comparisons? This paper will explore the styles and how they are able to help expand
the deal. The distributive style of negotiation is where both parties discuss a fixed sum or end
state. Usually, one of the sides loses and the other gains. A gain by one side is made at the
expense of the other. This is also known as a zero sum negotiation (Negotiating Outcomes, 2007).
The integrative negotiation allows both parties to cooperate and achieve maximum outcomes
from the agreement. It is done by allowing both sides to integrate their interests into the
agreement. Each side makes trade offs to get the things it values most, giving up other, less
critical factors (Negotiating Outcomes, 2007). These two styles are the basics of negotiation.
One is more helpful in expanding the deal. The term, expanding the pie , should be interpreted as
building a larger agreement. Remember, it is not about gaining power at the expense of other.
Your having more power doesn t mean less power for the other person. The pie is expanded

Compare American and Chinese Universities
Compare American and Chinese Universities
American universities and Chinese universities have very different admission requirements.
American universities, most of them, offer fall term and spring term enrollments, and some schools
even offer winter term or summer term enrollments as well. When they make a decision of whether
to admit an applicant, they consider the applicant s GPA and SAT score, and sometimes give
privileges to students who demonstrate their achievements on extra curricula activities. Because
most of American universities accept both types of freshman and transfer students, students who
are not able to enroll at a four year university right after they graduate from high school can still

By this system, students have flexibility to choose a class and schedule a course roadmap that
outlines the courses students take within the terms. Students can take courses on fall term and
spring term at semester system schools, and fall term, winter term and spring term at quarter
system schools. Many schools offer a summer session for students as well. Therefore, each student
would have their unique class schedule and course roadmap based on their own preference. On the
contrary, Chinese universities have a very different system called academic year system, which
means students graduate when they finish certain years of study. By this system, students are
required to declare their majors very early in which on the application form when they apply for
the school. Since the major is decided, students have to follow the school made course roadmap to
take most of the courses. Students in Chinese universities may have a few choices on choosing a
different instructor or different class time for the general education classes, but they have very
limited choices for the major classes. Moreover, all the universities in China do not offer summer
session. Consequently, in most circumstances, same major students who enrolled in the school in
the same year probably have same class schedule each semester, especially on junior and senior
level. Therefore, based on the education system, American university students and Chinese

Favelas In Brazil Research Paper
Favelas in Brazil have always had a somewhat rough background in getting along with outsiders.
Meaning drug lords, gangs, and occasional gun shootouts with the police. There is no doubt that
it is a dangerous area to be in. Though you d expect the people living there to want to leave to get
out of that situation. It is actually quite different they like where they re at. None of them really
mind where they are and favelas support a total of 1.5 million people, which is about 24% of the
population in Brazil. Though living in one is also a close resemblance to slum life, or an
overcrowded area, occupied by very poor people. There are some that are seen as a more high
functioning, and have been developing in new and extraordinary ways. Favelas do indeed have
a darker side. Since they are such tight space with so many people, this area, have become a
popular spot for crimes, and for drugs. Most are ruled by drug lords. Who traffic cocaine, and

Circulation in macroeconomics
Macroeconomics (from Greek prefix makros meaning large + economics ) is a branch of economics
dealing with the performance, structure, behavior, and decision making of an economy as a whole,
rather than individual markets. This includes national, regional, and global economies.[1][2] With
microeconomics, macroeconomics is one of the two most general fields in economics.
Macroeconomists study aggregated indicators such as GDP, unemployment rates, and price indices
to understand how the whole economy functions. Macroeconomists develop models that explain
the relationship between such factors as national income, output, consumption, unemployment,

Wages may be too high because of minimum wage laws or union activity. Consistent with classical
unemployment, frictional unemployment occurs when appropriate job vacancies exist for a
worker, but the length of time needed to search for and find the job leads to a period of
unemployment.[5] Structural unemployment covers a variety of possible causes of unemployment
including a mismatch between workers skills and the skills required for open jobs.[6] Large
amounts of structural unemployment can occur when an economy is transitioning industries and
workers find their previous set of skills are no longer in demand. Structural unemployment is
similar to frictional unemployment since both reflect the problem of matching workers with job
vacancies, but structural unemployment covers the time needed to acquire new skills not just the
short term search process.[7] While some types of unemployment may occur regardless of the
condition of the economy, cyclical unemployment occurs when growth stagnates. Okun s law
represents the empirical relationship between unemployment and economic growth.[8] The original
version of Okun s law states that a 3% increase in output would lead to a 1% decrease in
unemployment.[9]

Identify and discuss various representations of woman in Wuthering Heights
The depictions of women in Wuthering Heights reveal that despair and happiness are direct
outcomes of one s decision to either be submissive to or oppose patriarchal constructs respectively.
Catherine and Cathy II are portrayed as examples of both how giving power to patriarchal demands
leads to misery and pain in contrast to how resisting patriarchal demands will lead to hope and joy.
Firstly, the underlying theme of freedom illuminates how the women are influenced to make such
critical decisions regarding their respective futures. Secondly, the concept of upbringing illustrates
how childhood, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Catherine views freedom as something unsafe and untameable and following patriarchy as safe
and more suitable despite it also constraining her natural ambitions (Garofalo, 2008: 831). Her
choice reflects the idea that freedom is undesirable as it dangerously goes beyond social norms
and putts her at odds with society (Hanlon, 1996: 506). Giving power to patriarchal demands
results in negative outcomes for Catherine s character continued conflict with other characters,
depression, sickness, in the end, untimely death. Cathy II, who in her childhood had the idea of
freedom kept away from her, constantly attempts to resist patriarchal constructs in order to
achieve being free. Cathy II is represented as a tough, strong willed female who opposes what
others expect for her, in the way she often uses the word defy (REFERENCE), the way she aims
to draw pleasure from the grief of her enemies (REFERENCE) and how she challenges Heathcliff
to be physically violent towards her (REFERENCE). A feminist perspective of the novel notes how
Cathy II empowers both herself and the female gender in the way she attempts to escape Wuthering
Heights and make her own, independent decisions (Hoeveler, 2000: 212 214). Cathy II s view of
freedom is that it s a treasure that should be earned, and because she s been denied it by

The Viewer Is The Witness In Night And Fog
How the Viewer is the Witness in Night and Fog Alain Resnais Night and Fog is a Holocaust
documentary shot in 1955 that served as a lens into the hellish landscape of the Holocaust. It was
shot with footage of the Holocaust combined with a voiceover narration that provides a detailed
look into the horrors of the Holocaust. The filmproved to be a success but it struggled through
censorship due to its inherent gruesome nature. This is because the film uses various techniques in
such a way that the viewer of the film feel that they themselves have become witnesses of these
tragedies, as opposed to just being a viewer of a documentary about the Holocaust, thus making the
viewer experience of the film much more impactful. Traditional documentaries use interviews and
first hand witness accounts to tell the story, but Night and Fog does not. It presents everything
objectively and lets the powerful, fast paced cinematography and narration tell the story. Another
technique used is the rapid juxtaposition shots from the past and present, thus giving the film a
sense of timelessness. The last technique used is toward the end when the narrator asks the
harrowing question whether or not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

by simply showing horror after horror after horror of the Holocaust, giving the viewer no time to

documentaries might refrain from the utmost revolting of content for fear of deterring their viewers
but Night and Fog never censors the unquestionable reality of the past. Even though the film is only
half an hour long, this stylization allows the film to encompass plenty of information about the

Religion is the belief and worship of a higher power which is in control of the universe. The most
popular religions in the world today are Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. All four of
these religions teach peace. However, followers do not always get along with each other

The religion of Christianityis one of the prevalent forms of religion, and it is most widely spread.
There are over three billion followers and has many sects around the world. While each sect has
different customs, all Christians believe that there is only one Godand creator of the universe.
Within this God, there is God the father (creator of the universe), God the Son (Jesusor Christ, the
Messiah), and God the Holy Spirit (The actual presence of God that is in us or around us but is
not visually apparent). The people of this religion believe Jesus, born of a virgin mother, and
died on the cross for our sins, and resurrected three days later. Followers of Christ believe that

History of Christianity and the Christian Church
1)Paul s main message was that through Jesus, God would give pardon to those who trusted and
believed him. He also believed that people can begin the process of salvation present in their
own life. He spoke of agape. This is unconditional love. He believed all of Christian concern
circled around this. Jesus s teachings are more about the life her and now. So when he talked
about the Kingdom of Heaven, he was thinking of a kingdom here on earth, while Paul thought
more about a metaphorical kingdom of people who believe. Another big difference is that Paul
believed people are justification by faith; while Jesus focused on doing things repenting, being
baptized in order to be justified. Jesus spoke to Jesus; Paul spoke to Gentiles, so the law Moses
wasn t as important.
2)In the year 800, Pope Leo named Charlemagne the Holy Roman Empire. This upset the Byzantine
emperor because the Byzantines had stood up to barbarians and upheld the faith for years and they
didn t want a western Emperor over them. Things continued to get worse and in 1054, church split
into two: Rome Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Catholics. Things that contributed to the schism
were the fact that the Roman Catholics tended to be in the west and the Orthodox in the east, and as
time went on language differences got in the way. Also, the west put more emphasis on Jesus s
humanity while the east focused on his divinity. Today, the churches accept each other but they

Essay on The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory
Why is the Universe expanding? What is Cosmic Back Ground Radiation (CBR)? There are many
questions asked about our Universe, which we know so little about. Scientists, in their attempt to
answer these and other confrontations, have found one idea that seems to explain much of what we
don t understand: The Big Bang Theory.
An explosion of incomprehensible speed was the beginning of our known Universe and existence.
At that time matter as small as the head of a pin inflated to become larger than the visible
Universe of today in less than one millisecond. The newly born Universe cooled very quickly and
continued to grow. Still, the heat was too great for normal elementary particles like protons and

There were many people who worked together to come up with the present theory of creation.
Edwin Hubble, Arno Penzias, Robert Wilson and Alan Guth all contributed greatly to the formation
of the Big Bang theory.
Edwin Hubble used his large telescope to see far away stars and galaxies. He knew that the
elements in the stars reflected back specific colors, and you could tell what a star was made of
by its color ?DNA?. Hubble noticed that this pattern had been slightly shifted to the red side of
the spectrum, otherwise called a red shift. He knew, based on the Doppler effect, that a red shift
was caused by the stretched wavelengths of an object moving away from a point. If the galaxies
he had observed had shifted to the red side then it meant that they were moving away from Earth.
He also discovered that the galaxies were moving away from each other, as well.
With these observations in mind, Hubble announced that the universe was expanding. He then came
to this syllogism: If the universe is expanding, then at one point it was smaller. The result of his
postulations was the Big Bang theory.
Another mystery of the universe was the Cosmic Background Radiation (CBR). CBR is made up
of photons throughout the universe that are floating for no apparent reason in space. Arno Penzias
and Robert Wilson spent their lives trying to explain the origin of this radiation and why it is still
existent today. Their discoveries

Compare And Contrast Ancient Greece And Rome
The ancient Greeks and Romans were among the most influential civilizations in the history of the
world. Even though the Roman Empire eventually conquered Greece, Greek culture lived on within
the Empire. The Roman form of government was the foundation of the design of the United States
Senate. Ironically, the office of the President of the United States is the same as a tyrant in ancient
times, that is a person who appealed of the common people to gain power. The Greeks and Romans
had many differences, but there are also interesting similarities.
The way the Greek Empire fell in XXX XXX B.C. was very similar to how the Roman Empire fell
in XXX XXX A.D. Both Empires were suffering from weak economies. The Greeks had just
ended a civil war while the Romans on the other hand suffered from hyperinflation . Both Empires
were invaded by forces that mostly likely would not have attacked had the Empires not already
been weak militarily and economically. After the western part of the Roman Empire was conquered

cultures and lasted for hundreds of years, ensuring that elements of Roman culture would survive.

Immigration Policy Historically Has Been Influenced By Our...
Immigration policy historically has been influenced by our country s fear to uphold traditional
American culture often rooted in a sense of anti immigration and xenophobia. We perpetuate this by
allowing the criminalization of communities of color, mainly with the large Latino population in
the U.S. A large portion of the immigrants who arrive in the country are fleeing dangerous
homelands pitted with economic and political turmoil. Their situation is worsened by our country s
broken immigrationsystem where families are separated, immigrants are exploited as work labor,
discrimination is rampant, and the pathways to citizenship are convoluted at best. We as a country
need to uphold our values of freedom and equality when immigrants come to our country and
reform our immigration system to be more reflective of this. In light of the recent occurrences with
ISIS related terrorism committed by foreigners such as the San Bernardino shooting or the Orlando
night club shooting, there has been some resistance from the country in regards to immigration.
Additionally the age old worry of job security also heightens our sensitivity towards immigrants
with jobs, as they compete for them. Despite this, Clinton s Immigration policy seeks to transform
the U.S. into a version of our former selves with family at the heart of her immigration policies. In
regards to this, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has a long history of promoting immigration

Dietary Supplements Can Damage the Liver
Many people use dietary supplements to boost their health and prevent disease. It is reported
that up to 40% of adults use at least one over the counter dietary supplement daily and most of
these people do not ask or inform their doctors about taking these supplements. Herbal and
nonherbal health supplements are popular because some people believe it is easier to take these
than to buy and prepare healthy meals, especially when they are busy with work or if quality
foods are not easily available. To others, taking specific food supplements is a means to increase
immunity to certain diseases, support bodybuilding, or achieve weight loss. Some health care
providers recommend taking dietary supplements to replace nutritional deficiencies but most
experts advise consuming a healthy, balance diet that provides most of the nutrients one needs to
maintain health. Supplements that can Damage the Liver Studies show that certain dietary
supplements, especially vitamins, minerals and antioxidants have many health benefits, which
includes prevention of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. However, experts warn that some

Jazz Culture
The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between jazz music and American culture.
In order to understand how it is related to American society, it s important to understand the
origins of Jazz. With its many different subgenres, it is difficult to define exactly what Jazz is.
This paper will be exploring the origins of Jazz, its development over time, and its role in civil
rights movement and black community.
The Origins of Jazz:
Considered by many to be the only original American art form, Jazz is a style of music developed in
the late 19th and early 20th century in New Orleans. Combining ragtime and blues, early Jazz
artists like Louis Armstrong became the forerunners of what would become known as Jazz. Jazz

Some of the earliest places to integrate were Jazz clubs, however, it wasn t until people like
Norman Granz a white impresario began to actively fight the hypocrisy of venues hosting black
bands but not serving black patrons that real integration of venues began. Like all music, Jazz is
a form of expression. All Jazz musicians have played the same standards along with their own
music, yet, each version is so different from another. The freedom of expression in Jazz, and the
culture of the Jazz community gave African Americans a chance to make it into the spotlight.
Calling attention to social issues, responding to events, organizing community events, and most
of all, uniting people of all colors in a way that no other art form quite could. Some people
believe that the adaptation of Jazz by white corrupted the genre, however, when the effects of the
mixing whites and blacks in Jazz are looked at in context of the civil rights movement and the fight
for equality, it becomes clear that Jazz was just as instrumental to the success of the movement as
speeches and protests were. Jazz has a special place in American identity. That place will continue
to change as time goes on, but it is clear that the development of Jazz and the culture surrounding
the genre were critical to the development of the

needed no research or studying he had followed this band and everything along with it from day
one. He was one page in and he knew that this was going to be him best work yet. Kyler had
always been a great writer, but it had never come to his benefit till now. Later, while adding his

The writing on the front looked handwritten, That has to be a good sign. He thought hopefully. He
quickly ran up to his room in excitement, dodging his mother, along with the furniture and mess
throughout the house. He got to his desk, the same one he sat three weeks prior and wrote his
seemingly unbeatable article, and swiped his arm across it clearing everything in his path. Kyler
sat down with the unopened envelope right in front of him. Thinking of what would happen in he
reprimanded everything his mother had always told him. He sat there for hours, thinking of all the
ways this could play out, none of them ending good for everyone so he grabbed the letter, hesitant
at first, then confidently ripped the envelope to shreds. After throwing it away Kyler ran back
downstairs announcing, Hey Mom, do you want to do anything

Impact Of Romanticism In The Late Victorian Age
I was a man who stood in the symbolic relations to the art and culture of my age. 1
The late Victorian age saw a revolution in the sphere of art and literature. John Ruskin, Matthew
Arnold, Walter Pater, and Oscar Wilde were among the most influential art and literary critics of
the yellow nineties. They baffled the British opinion with their brand new stance on literature,
paintings, and sculptures. They turned criticism into a new form of art, which redefined and
theorised art as well as literature. Their new theories were utterly modern and absolutely new for
the period, which has come to be known as the English Renaissance. This English Renaissance of
Art was defined by Oscar Wilde as: a sort of new birth of the spirit of man, like ... Show more

The Blackwood s edition of the Edinburgh Magazine issued in July 1889 carried Wilde s
Portrait of Mr W.H, but Blackwood wrote to Wilde suggesting that the story be reprinted in a
volume from the Tales from Blackwood s.9 To which Wilde replied that the text was too literary.
10 Wilde had another idea for a collections of essays that had been written and published earlier
in the same year: will you compromise and bring it out in a special volume of essays and studies
by me? As a frontispiece we will have an etching of the fictitious Portrait of Mr W.H, 11 while
the other studies The Decay of lying and Pen, poison and Pencil had both been published in
periodicals the Nineteenth Century and the Fortnight in January 1889. Wilde had yet another
intention for his essays and wanted to published an extended version of The Portrait of Mr W.H
by itself. In 1890 Wilde returned to the idea of a collections of essays with a new essay, which
had been published in the Nineteenth Century in July and September 1890, this essay in two parts
was first entitled The True Function and value of criticism 12 and would later be know as The
Critic as Artist. In 1885 Wilde revised an essay originally called Shakespeare and Stage Costume
and turned it into The Truth of Masks. Intentions thus came into being, but not to Wilde s
satisfaction, he

The Benefits of Sin Revealed in The Scarlet Letter
According to Nathaniel Hawthorne in The Scarlet Letter, each of us is born with original sin we
have inherited from the misdeeds of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. As Eve bit hungrily into
the apple from the Tree of Knowledge, starving for wisdom, little did she know that the entire
human race would thereafter be tainted by her sin. Hawthorne and many others believe that ever
since, human beings have been inclined to evil, more likely to disobey than to act in a godly
manner. This is a faithless, cynical view of humanity, but one perhaps justified by the actions of
Hester Prynne and the Reverend Dimmesdale. Sin seems to be an inevitable factor in their lives;

Questioning would have thrown their world into turmoil. They liked simple, written laws. Laws
of the heart were unimportant; after all, how could one live by laws that were not even
verbalized or written in any way? Puritan society was so rigid, so strict, that other rules were not
even considered. Hester s sin comes from her refusal to ignore that other set of rules: the rules of
her soul. I read about Hester s predicament and think, She was following her heart. How is being
true to herself a sin? But in the 17th century in Puritan America, the individual did not create
rules. Society did. Granted, the structure and laws of society are needed to some extent in order
to prevent chaos. But some matters are not the business of government. Hester s sin should have
been private, if it had been a sin at all in her eyes. She could not escape societal laws, though, and
her sin darkened in her eyes and made her ashamed.
It is no wonder that Hester is so confused by her sin and its implications, because her guilt is
contradictory in and of itself. The scarlet letter she wears, the symbol of her sin, and her little
daughter Pearl, the product of her sin, remind her every day of how she has done wrong. And yet,
in some mysterious way, these marks of sin save her from other sins. Pearl, though looked upon by
others as a devilish child, is perhaps a gift to Hester. Without Pearl,

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud, By John Muir And William...
Albert Einstein spoke of nature and its value when he said, Look deep into nature, and then you
will understand everything better. As Einstein pointed out, by looking into nature you could
discover something new about yourself and the world around you. John Muir and William
Wordsworth both discovered joy when they looked deep into nature. This joy gave them a new
perspective on nature and life and they each expressed this joy through different works of writing.
Both authors have a unique outlook on nature and its impact as well as different thoughts on how to
share their relationships; Muir used diction and connotationto show his relationship in his essay
The Calypso Borealis where Wordsworth used tone and syntax in his poem I Wandered Lonely as a
Cloud.
John Muir expressed his relationship with nature in his essay titled The Calypso Borealis by using
diction and connotation. John Muir described the Calypso and its surroundings when he wrote:
growing not in the ground but on a bed of yellow mosses in which its small white bulb had found a
soft nest and from which its one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wordsworth demonstrates his use of tone and syntax in the following stanza, Continuous as the
stars that shine And twinkle on the milky way, They stretched in never ending line Along the
margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in a sprightly dance. The tone
of the stanza is joyful because he is happy when he talks about how beautiful the daffodils are.
This shows how his relationship with nature is positive since he is happy when watching the
daffodils. Wordsworth uses traditional syntax in this stanza. He uses several phrases divided by
commas to describe the daffodils and their movements. This gives the stanza a playful pace which
again expresses that his relationship with nature is happy and

Exploring the Efficacy of International Organizations in...
The emergence of international organizations and international norms has undoubtedly changed the
way states exercise power in international politics. On the one hand, international organizations may
have a large influence over the behavior of states by spreading international norms, such as self
determination, that then help shape foreign policy. They could also be viewed as a form of global
governance that ameliorates nationalistic aggression. On the other hand, international organizations
could be seen as simply a reflection of the existing balance of power within an anarchic, self help
system; international norms simply a convenient ideological rhetoric for a state to utilize in order to
legitimize and justify their national interests.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Keohane argues, under a bipolar structure, relative gains become the most apparent and easily
calculated, forcing cooperation to a minimum. However, Keohane stresses, this does not by any
means undermine prospects for cooperation in general (Keohane, Mitigation, p. 155). The UN
does little to constrain Russia s behavior and to influence the outcome becauase of its wide and
diverse membership and the lack of common interests between the key decision makers the
Security Council. In essence, the UN takes on the same bilateral nature of its members, resulting
in indecisive action. Russia s veto of the UN resolution that declared Crimea illegal on March 15
is a clear example of this. As realists would say, the UN as an international organization is simply
another measure of national sovereignty: the Organization is based on the principle of sovereign
equality (Charter of the United Nations, Chapter I Article II). No state is willing to make a
decision that will undermine its own sovereignty. However, NATO and the EU, organizations that
comprise of fewer members who share deeper political interests and ideologies, become central
actors themselves and are not just an institutional form of the balance of powers. As Steven
Erlanger writes in The New York Times, the Crimea crisis has suddenly revived the North Atlantic

I would like to start this appeal by stating that I do not deny that my guest damaged University
property. However, it is the amount of damage and the severity of monetary compensation
demanded of me that I take issue with. The fact of the matter is that I am being assessed a fine of
several thousand dollars based on video evidence that my guest damaged two ceiling tiles. Although
I find any damageto what I consider my home to be a personal affront and a despicable act, I
strongly feel that in this situation the punishment is exceedingly disproportionate to the crime. I
have developed a strong allegiance to Quinnipiac University and I can honestly say that I was
appalled by the vandalism which occurred on that night.

There is absolutely no evidence that Ryan caused the extensive damage seen in the 180s and 280s.
Even Mr. Blakeman, who conducted the investigation, did not appear to be under the impression
that Ryan caused these extensive damages. The only evidence of vandalism shows Ryan and two
other individuals walking down a hallway on the other side of Commons and striking two tiles. The
damage that they caused is, unfortunately, a normal amount of damage for Commons on a
weekend night. Students frequently vandalize this dorm, and that is disgraceful, however one
small, isolated incident is not indicative of responsibility for a second incident with much greater
damages. The damages have not stopped since Ryan and the other individual shown in the video
have left campus. I believe that it is clear that a portion of residents in Commons simply continue
damaging Commons.
As a result of this case, I have been placed on deferred suspension for nearly an entire year.
However, the charge is based off of pure speculation and assumptions. A professional investigation
should not be based off of simple assumptions, especially considering the gravity of the sanctions in

Senior Show Research Paper
The Senior Show is a relatively new concept at Pinecrest High School, where the seniors, and
only seniors, who are part of the theater department produce, direct, cast, and star in a single play
completely by themselves. This year the seniors chose to work on a play called Almost, Maine,
by John Cariani. The show was performed on May 12, beginning at 7:00 pm. It s a scene based
show that shows love in different lights by using the fictional town of Almost, Maine, said Hannah
Bankos. Almost was produced by Britton Phipps and directed by Bankos and Erik Bensen. Phipps
raised the money, starting with an initial budget of $250 and raising it to a final $1,100. A part of
the additional money came from the fundraiser that the seniors... Show more content on

Hakuna Matata from the Lion King, Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice, and We Are Never Ever
Getting Back Together by Taylor Swift. The night ended with a rendition of Don t Stop

Senior Show. The show consisted of two acts with a total of nine scenes. These nine scenes were
done with a total of 12 actors, and three students who worked behind the scenes. The 12 actors
had additional behind the scenes rolls, and six had more than one role to play in the show. These
six included Hannah Browning and Daniel Herman. It was so exciting. I mean, it really gave me
an opportunity to come out of my shell because I ve never played that many characters before, and
it was so much fun, said Browning. Browning played two different characters, like

Health Savings Account Essay
Are Health Savings Accounts Working Effectively?
Increasing health care costs has been a rampant issue in the US healthcare sector. In attempt to
address the issue, the government has enforced different measures. One of these measures includes
health savings accounts (HSAs), which were introduced on December 8, 2003 under the Bush
administration. HSAs were created under the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and
Modernization Act (Bonello Lobo, 2012). HSAs work by allowing consumers to purchase a costly
health insurance with high deductable, before opening HSA account in financial institution,
whereby certain amount of contributions are made to the account. Tax preferred basis is the main
approach of making the contributions. In other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most beneficiaries of HSAs do not required deductions offered under this accounts. This
apparently implies that the tax incentives offered under the HSAs undermine equality in the
society. Higher earning individuals are in a better position to cater for their medical bills in spite of
cost.
According to report by NCPA, (2013), HSAs which have been evolving under Obama
administration, are the courses of the problem in the US health Care sector. The report informs that
the accounts established the 3rd party problem issue. Both the consumer and health care providers
(doctor or physician, or any other), lack the incentive to manage health care expenditures. In
economics, price is among the determinants that determine consumption of consumer.
NCPA, (2013) reported that consumers are more likely to consume more if prices decrease.
Economists also argue that demand is negatively correlated to price. That is, whenever price
increases, demand declines. This is very true according to law of demand and supply. The law
argues that quantity of product/service demanded in market declines/increases when price
increases/declines. As explained earlier, HSAs involve sharing of medical costs, and more
specifically, consumers are able to access costly medical care. Yet, neither consumers nor offers of
medical care are involved in evaluation of cost benefit analysis in the entire

Analysis Of Last Hope For Peace At Brooklyn s Big Party
In the article Last Hope for Peace at Brooklyn s Big Party written by the Editorial Board of The
New York Times, the main focus is whether or not Brooklyn s city officials can run the annual
celebration of Caribbean Culture named, J ouvert, without a casualty. The writer uses a few
techniques to get their argumentacross such techniques consist of title, imagery, and more. The
writer is not one person but, it is rather The Editorial Board at the New York Times. The writer s
argument works effectively by providing evidence from previous celebrations of J ouvert, fatal
altercations during the event are bound to occur no matter what precautions officials make to
prevent them.
The first technique the author uses to support his argument is the title. The title of the article is
Last Hope for Peace at Brooklyn s Big Party. By using this title, the author draws readers in by
making them feel as if the topic is of high importance. The author accomplishes this by his word
choice and is localizing the article to an area such as Brooklyn. By doing so, the author draws
people s attention in because Brooklyn is a very renowned area. He also shows his standpoint on
the issue by using the words Last Hope , which is a very negative way of looking at an issue and
shows the author has an opposing un optimistic view/standpoint. By using the words Last Hope ,
the author is able to convey a subliminal message to the reader that there is something wrong that
needs fixing and if this

Marva Collins Case Study
Educators require just books, a board, and a couple of legs that will last the day, Marva Collins
told Dan Hurley in 50 Plus magazine. These three things were basically all that Collins had when
she opened the Westside Preparatory School in Chicago, Illinois, in 1975 with the $5,000 she had
added to her benefits subsidize. Frustrated in the wake of instructing in the state funded educational
system for a long time, Collins chose to leave and open a school that would welcome understudies
who had been dismisses by different schools and marked problematic and closed off. She had seen
an excessive number of kids go through an insufficient educational system in which they were given
indifferent instructors, some of whom came to class artificially debilitated.
A firm adherent to the estimation of an instructor s chance gone through with an understudy, Collins

Richard Cory Essay
The American poet, Edwin Arlington Robinson wrote the narrative poem Richard Cory, which
first appeared in his second poetry collection, The Children of the Night and recalls the economic
depression of 1893. Throughout the poem, Robinson describes an envied, wealthy man who is
seen as the idol and poster child of the perfect life. But to their surprise, Richard Corycommits
suicide, which teaches the townspeople a great lesson: that material, wealth, normality, and fancy
things are not what bring a person eternal happiness.
He displays the theme through using imagery, diction, and situational irony.
Throughout the poem, Robinson uses imagery to help readers envision an image of Richard Cory
being someone who has everyone stopping and looking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the poem, Richard Cory appears to have it all: the looks, the wealth and the status.
Everyone in the town wants to be just like him due to the perfection which he seems to display.
The whole town stops and only thinks of the money he has and how amazing his life would be,
but they do not realize what he is feeling or never stop to really talk to him. In the reality, he
lacks happiness, the key ingredient to having it all. The irony of the poem is that this man, who
seems to have everything perceived to bring happiness, kills himself because he is unhappy with
his life. Six lines in the poem begins with and. The repetition of this word helps to build an idea of
how Richard Cory looked. But more importantly, with each repetition it places him higher and
higher on this pedestal of power and respect that the townspeople have placed him on. This use of
repetition helps build towards the climax and creates a story behind the climax. This technique also
builds more impact and shock of the last line of the poem, teaching the reader and townspeople that
material, wealth, normality, and fancy things are not what bring a person eternal

Example Of Pathological Arbitration
Warren E. Burger , in a 1984 address to the American Bar Association lamented that:
The entire legal profession has become so mesmerized with the stimulation of the courtroom that
we tend to forget that we ought to be healers of conflict. Our system is too costly, too painful,... As
healers of human conflicts, the obligation of the legal profession is to provide mechanisms that can
produce an acceptable result in the shortest possible time, with the shortest possible expense and the
minimum of stress on the participants. This is what justice is all about.
Arbitration is envisioned to assist as an effective means to resolve disputes without involving the
costly and overburdened judicial system. However, even the finest tool is subjected to abuse in the

  • 2. The Stamford Prison Experiment This essay is an investigation of the application from the Zimbardo Stanford Prison Experiment to some similar scenarios that demonstrate the same or similar findings found within the Stamford Prison Experiment that were influenced by external factors and influences. The Stamford Prison Experiment was conducted to investigate how subtle people are to conform to roles of the guard and prisoner in a mock prisonenvironment and if the behaviours were influenced by the environment or by sadistic personalities of guards (McLeod, 2016). There are several factors that influence good guards to not question orders from bad guards and a few of these factors will be outlined in this essay. The first topic that will be discussed is the similarities of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A position of authority especially in a prison environment or regulating the public brings along strict guidelines how one must exert this position of power (Cruz, 2015). This strict line of how to act if someone has a high authoritative position can restrict those whom may oppose certain acts against people. American police are given an expectation of being patient, wise, honest and brave in the face of danger (Petrova, 2014). However, in light of this there is an expectation of the fight or flight response that police are to fight not fleeing. These attitudes of fight instead of fleeing in the face of dangerous or unknown situations has influenced American police to be more inclined to use lethal force when one would usually not, because they are not in a position of authority and power (Petrova, 2014). This is similar behavior found in the Stamford Prison Experiment guards as that the guards, when given authority and power felt more inclined to start using more aggressive behaviors and misconduct towards the prisoners because they were the ones that must be submissive (McLeod, 2016). However, unlike that of the Stanford Prison Experiment where the guards were randomly selected, American police and many law enforcement agencies throughout the world are hired to be ethical, reasonable and understanding of safety of their work (Petrova, 2014). This should have trained the American police to not to act in ways of excessive force however their position of authority and power gives a perceived blanket of immunity allowing them to be more free to exercise excessive force sometimes going beyond just enforcing the law (Petrova, 2014). Position and power were two factors that were also explored in Stamford Prison Experiment, which has identified similarities to American police, misconduct using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Taking a Look at Lactation Lactation, as well as the mammary glands by which mothers provide their young with milk, have long been regarded as an exclusive and defining trait of the vertebrate class Mammalia. In fact, Linnaeus himself outfitted our own phylogenetic class with this name because they possess mammae (Gregory 1910). How such complex methods of delivering nourishment to young evolved in the first place has always been a hotly contested topic. Breasts, teats, and nipples are all soft tissue, so they cannot be directly observed in the fossil record. What original structures evolved into mammary glands? Did all mammals have them? Is it possible that our reptilian ancestors (or rather, our common ancestor with modern reptiles) also lactated? This paper examines the work of paleontologists, evolutionary biologists, and geneticists of the last 120 years to try to gain some insight into these questions, and whether they can ever be truly answered. Before delving into the origins of lactation, one must understand the basic progression of mammalian evolution from our last common ancestor with reptiles to the modern placental mammal . The last common ancestors diverged into two groups: synapsids and sauropsids. Synapsids are the ancestors of mammals and their extinct relatives (often called mammal like reptiles) while sauropsids went on to become reptiles and birds (Oftedal 2002). The two clades were distinguished by characteristics of their skulls. Synapsids branched out into many different types, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Music, food, dancing, and punch sounds like a night of fun. that what you call university high school spring fling. It s a spring party that happens in late April. Students and teachers have a half of day that ends at 12 pm. We all go off to the gym for the remaining of the day to have fun. this day party is hosted by the upcoming senior class in hopes to help raise money for the current senior class. I think it relates because we wear the school colors to promote pride and to show that we value the school that we attend. Everyone is in attendance so that s how we know who is valued and respected in both regards to the student and the staff. Which is what Collins was saying in his essay the group must assemble which is what we do when the spring fling is held every year. This event shows that we are a unity and that we are equal in our own Phoenix community. You have grades mixing with other grade, teachers mixing with other teachers and it s the maybe only time you see the principle or leader of the school relaxed and enjoying himself. This spring fling is the tradition. A spring fling is an event that all four years of my high school I really enjoyed. It was something that most individuals and even myself really looked forward to everywhere. I looked forward to meeting new students, teachers and just being able to feel the unity. It felt as If we were one big tight family. Studies may show that the average kid spends most of their time at school. Which I see to be very true because school is where I spent 8 hours of my day. • 5. Eating Disorders in Adolescents Eating Disorders in Adolescents Eating Disorders in Adolescents Introduction Eating disorder in adolescents is a source of grave alarm. An effective definition of eating disorders, as they are evident in school surroundings, describes victim of eating disorder as being extensively anxious and conscious about food, weight, and body shape. This results in being engaged in strange eating behaviors (Gowers Bryant Waugh, 2004). This paper seeks to investigate the effects of eating disorders on adolescent s life and education and comprehensive school based model of interventions is suggested for the prevention and treatment of this disorder. The Effect of an Eating Disorder Two of the most common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa and they have a prospective to effect on the person experiencing this disorder on lasting physical health, social, emotional, and cognitive development. These disorders can sometimes prove to be a great threat to life. Many adolescents are forced to postpone their schooling even as they search for treatment. Therefore this amplifies the likely harmful effects of their situation on their social and cognitive development. It is very much possible that with the passage of time the condition of eating disorder will aggravate and it will become more obvious and will ultimately affect their moods and physical health (Hoek Hoeken, 2003). The imbalanced and inadequate diet affects the adolescent s brains and cognitive function ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. College Essay On Peer Pressure Eyeballing the Gatorade bottle as it became full of smoke, I knew I had caved into peer pressure. Peer pressure can be a big obstacle for lots of teens. Although peer pressure can sometimes be a positive, it is often harmful and damaging. That type of negative influence from one s peers can lead them to try things they usually would have no interest in trying. When I was about to turn thirteen, I learned just how true my previous statement was. All it took for me to experience peer pressure for the first time was a couple of grams of marijuana. When I was younger, I would spend most of my summer nights playing video games with my friends. Most nights, you would find me with one friend in particular, and that friend was (at the time) sixteen year old Kevin Gomez. I would walk to Kevin s house since he lived a couple of minutes away from me. This night however, Kevin and I agreed to meet at his aunt s house due to her being on vacation. Sitting on his aunt s beige couches that had been wrapped in plastic, we had begun the night the exact way we had begun any other night, by playing video games. We were roughly an hour into our gaming session, when from the corner of my eye I spotted Kevin reaching for something from inside his right pocket. He pulled out what appeared to be a tiny plastic bag. The moment he opened the bag I knew exactly what he had brought with him. Instantly the smell of skunk had filled my nostrils. You tryna smoke? • 7. Emily Dickinson Punctuation Katie Holcomb ENG 102 Ballinger 25 July 2017 Dickinson s Riddle Emily Dickinson died before her works were attempted to be analyzed and interpreted, suggesting perhaps that the mysteries, abstractions, and double meanings were for her own enjoyment, and all answers if there were any died with her ( Explanation ). Glimpsing at just a few of Dickinson s poems is sure to catch the eye of a reader, posing questions of grammatical soundness. Capital letters, dots, and dashes appear consistently, but maybe there is a reason behind it all. Emily Dickinson uses punctuation in a non traditional way throughout her poems, contributing to the effect and meaning of her works, such as My Life had stoodп‚ѕa Loaded Gunп‚ѕ, After great pain, a formal feeling comesп‚ѕ, and Wild Nightsп‚ѕWild Nights! Emily Dickinson employs commonly used punctuation marks in an uncommon way, riddling many of her poems. Emily Dickinson s poems, like inlay, tend to be made of splinters of thought and sight, often brilliant fragments, held together by a mosaic sense of pattern, joined irregularly by dashes (Wilner). Although dashes appear the most, some works also contain explanation marks. Exclamation marks in Dickinson s poems suggest strong feeling in her thoughts, interjecting passion and excitement throughout. The punctuation used by the author enhances her works and helps to draw in her audience. Dickinson s My Life had stoodп‚ѕ a Loaded Gunп‚ѕ contains en dashes from beginning to end, giving more meaning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. God Is The Pure Essence Of Perfect No one on this Earth is perfect, only our God is the pure essence of perfect. With God s love and perfection He is able to use us, the imperfect, to carry out His will. We have all sinned and continue to ask for forgiveness when needed. Although we are not perfect, God still has a plan for our lives and it is our duty to follow out His will. In the Old Testament there are books of history, which discuss God s use of some imperfect individuals to accomplish His purpose for Israel. There are twelve books exactly that deal with the history of the nation of Israel and how God accomplished His goals. These twelve books are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. These books share a prophetic view of history describing how the obedience or disobedience of God s people is directly tied to the blessings and curses of the covenant. The first of these books is Joshua. In this book, the possession of the land by the nation is the main point. It tells us the story of Israel s arrival at Canaan, otherwise known as the Promise Land, while under the leadership of Joshua. God appoints Joshua as a leader and that he will never leave him or forsake him. Joshua stood strong in his faith, his obedience to God, and he was courageous. So although Joshua was one out of many men that were not apparently flawed, this book is a foundation for all that was to come. The second book of history was Judges. The Book of Judges is ... • 10. A Reflection On Being Stereotyped In Nursing Reflection on being stereotyped I have loved the nursing profession since childhood, and if I wanted something more in my life in terms of career, it was to help people around me on different ways. At that time I had no idea how my future will look like. Therefore, when me and my family decided to emigrate in the U.S. I had in my mind the idea to continue my career. After all the tests that I supposed to take, I got finally my RN license and I start looking for a place to work. I must to say that wasn t so easy, because even if I sent a lot of resumes to different facilities, I was hardly called to an interview, or I had a few telephone interviews. After few weeks of waiting, I finally got a phone call from one nursing home in the area, and after a few questions, the person who contacted me invited me to an interview. When I arrived at the facility, the DON was waiting for me and she had my resume in front of her, on her desk. She asked me a lot of questions about my background, my experience as a nurse, and what are my expectation in this job. I worked in Romania almost 14 years as a nurse and in my opinion I can adapt myself ease to the new conditions. I was surprised that after all the time I spent in her office, the DON told me she was impressed by me, but she can not give me the job because I do not have American experience. It was not the first time when I heard this phrase, but I felt like I had no value, that all the work I have done to get the RN license was in vain. I felt that all the sky was falling over me because in this case, without the American experience, I had no chance to find a job in the field I loved so much. Generally speaking, I am a silent person and often quit the fight at the first hurdle. But in this situation, I chose to continue fighting, because I considered the DON s answer to be a stereotype. She considered that if I did not do American school I do not have the necessary knowledge to work in a nursing home. I understood that she didn t know anything about my country and what kind of school I did to become a nurse, but little by little, after all I told her about my job in Romania, which were my responsibilities there, I asked her to give me a chance, to offer me the job ... This poem is known worldwide and with reason. Being presented for the first time, sometime before 1000 BC. Its also known as the most important Greek poem ever. Alongside the well known Iliad. Both are known as epic poems which are passed down orally but are considered long narratives. Beowulf is the earliest of any epic poem of that time period. Beowulf being the main character, travels from his home land to a foreign country, where they have been ravaged by a monster named grendel. Which leads to another monster which is Grendel s mother. The poem ends with Beowulf killing his last monster, a dragon. But the reader is met with the question why did he do all of this? Beowulf s motivations in the epic poem Beowulf are presented as his duty to do so, for the fame and glory, and to sacrifice himself for the betterment of others. The story between Hema and Kaushik s connection in Jhumpa Lahiri s Unaccustomed Earth shows an example of two childhood acquaintances, who have known each other since their youth, and how distant they had become throughout the years. The sad reality of losing someone that is close through death or disconnection, creates a life of loneliness that affects the characters throughout these stories. In the second story, Year s End told in Kaushik s point of view, it shows the result of losing loved ones and the inability to adapt to change. The relationship of Kaushik and his father is affected due to the event of his mother s passing. Kaushik was unsure which was worse the idea of remarrying for love, or actively seeking out a stranger for companionship ( Year s End 255). This scene represents Kaushik s persistent view that there is no family outside of the one he grew up with. To conclude, Kaushik is bounded by his relationship with his mother and her attachment to his everyday life hinders any potential connections with his father and new stepfamily. The Government Should Mandate Helmet Use for All Cyclists Cuts, bruises and even broken bones will heal, but damage to your brain can last a lifetime. You can prevent possible injuries from unforeseen disasters such as smacking the street, sidewalk, curb, a car, tree or anything else around you by using safety precautions. In some cases, we are required to use safety measures, while in others we are merely advised. For instance, while driving an automobile, the law requires for all occupants in the vehicle to wear safety belts. The reason for this law is because without using such cautiousness, fatal accidents would be more frequent. In the same respects, safety should be required for bicycle and motorcycle riders. Although you should take other safety measures when cycling, a helmet is by far the most important and most effective piece of protective equipment a cyclist can wear. In the event of a traffic accident, wearing a helmet saves lives by reducing the extent of a head injury because when you fall or crash, your helmet absorbs much of the force of impact that would otherwise hurt your head ( Helmet Use ). The thick plastic foam also know as firm polystyrene inside the hard outer shell of your helmet, crushes to cushion the blow during an accident ( Motorcycle Accidents ). The helmet takes the hit instead of your head. Each year, even minor bicycle and motorcycle accidents kill hundreds of people in the United States and cause brain damage and other injuries to more than half a million riders ( Why should we wear helmets? ).Buying a helmet is one of the best investments a person can make. Bicycle shops and discount department stores offer many models of helmets, priced around $20.00. Even with wide availability of inexpensive helmets and proper information on how and why to use them, it is estimated that only approximately half of over eighty million bike riders wear their helmet all the time ( Why should we wear helmets? ). This includes laboratory tests, endoscopy, and/or barium enema x ray. Also it can be diagnosed based on medical history, physical examination, or a biopsy of the colon tissue. Chireau, Voodoo, as it is used in the American context, connotes an illicit form of spirituality, and many images have been used to bolster the notorious associations between it, racial blackness, and evil magic (8). In addition to this, hoodoo and Voodoo are often used synonymously, creating further confusion for the general public with little knowledge of the true nature of hoodoo and the religious tradition of Voodoo. Some may not feel making the deal should mean adding more to it than the original bargain There is a lot of, what is in it for me? And what do we get out of this deal? Negotiation deals have either integrative or distributive properties. What are the contrasts between these two styles and what are their comparisons? This paper will explore the styles and how they are able to help expand the deal. The distributive style of negotiation is where both parties discuss a fixed sum or end state. Usually, one of the sides loses and the other gains. A gain by one side is made at the expense of the other. This is also known as a zero sum negotiation (Negotiating Outcomes, 2007). The integrative negotiation allows both parties to cooperate and achieve maximum outcomes from the agreement. It is done by allowing both sides to integrate their interests into the agreement. Each side makes trade offs to get the things it values most, giving up other, less critical factors (Negotiating Outcomes, 2007). These two styles are the basics of negotiation. One is more helpful in expanding the deal. The term, expanding the pie , should be interpreted as building a larger agreement. Remember, it is not about gaining power at the expense of other. Traditional documentaries use interviews and first hand witness accounts to tell the story, but Night and Fog does not. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were many people who worked together to come up with the present theory of creation. Edwin Hubble, Arno Penzias, Robert Wilson and Alan Guth all contributed greatly to the formation of the Big Bang theory. Edwin Hubble used his large telescope to see far away stars and galaxies. He knew that the elements in the stars reflected back specific colors, and you could tell what a star was made of by its color ?DNA?. Hubble noticed that this pattern had been slightly shifted to the red side of the spectrum, otherwise called a red shift. He knew, based on the Doppler effect, that a red shift was caused by the stretched wavelengths of an object moving away from a point. If the galaxies he had observed had shifted to the red side then it meant that they were moving away from Earth. He also discovered that the galaxies were moving away from each other, as well. With these observations in mind, Hubble announced that the universe was expanding. He then came to this syllogism: If the universe is expanding, then at one point it was smaller. The result of his postulations was the Big Bang theory. Another mystery of the universe was the Cosmic Background Radiation (CBR). Immigration policy historically has been influenced by our country s fear to uphold traditional American culture often rooted in a sense of anti immigration and xenophobia. We perpetuate this by allowing the criminalization of communities of color, mainly with the large Latino population in the U.S. A large portion of the immigrants who arrive in the country are fleeing dangerous homelands pitted with economic and political turmoil. Their situation is worsened by our country s broken immigrationsystem where families are separated, immigrants are exploited as work labor, discrimination is rampant, and the pathways to citizenship are convoluted at best. Herbal and nonherbal health supplements are popular because some people believe it is easier to take these than to buy and prepare healthy meals, especially when they are busy with work or if quality foods are not easily available. To others, taking specific food supplements is a means to increase immunity to certain diseases, support bodybuilding, or achieve weight loss. Some health care providers recommend taking dietary supplements to replace nutritional deficiencies but most experts advise consuming a healthy, balance diet that provides most of the nutrients one needs to maintain health. Supplements that can Damage the Liver Studies show that certain dietary supplements, especially vitamins, minerals and antioxidants have many health benefits, which includes prevention of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. However, experts warn that some herbal and dietary supplements have side effects, especially when taken in large doses or if they are taken for long periods. Research shows that almost 20% of all liver injuries recorded from 2003 2011 are associated with chronic intake of certain herbal and dietary supplements. The worst offenders are bodybuilding supplements, which was linked to 34%, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Jazz Culture The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between jazz music and American culture. In order to understand how it is related to American society, it s important to understand the origins of Jazz. With its many different subgenres, it is difficult to define exactly what Jazz is. This paper will be exploring the origins of Jazz, its development over time, and its role in civil rights movement and black community. The Origins of Jazz: Considered by many to be the only original American art form, Jazz is a style of music developed in the late 19th and early 20th century in New Orleans. Combining ragtime and blues, early Jazz artists like Louis Armstrong became the forerunners of what would become known as Jazz. Jazz has some characteristics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the earliest places to integrate were Jazz clubs, however, it wasn t until people like Norman Granz a white impresario began to actively fight the hypocrisy of venues hosting black bands but not serving black patrons that real integration of venues began. Like all music, Jazz is a form of expression. All Jazz musicians have played the same standards along with their own music, yet, each version is so different from another. The freedom of expression in Jazz, and the culture of the Jazz community gave African Americans a chance to make it into the spotlight. Calling attention to social issues, responding to events, organizing community events, and most of all, uniting people of all colors in a way that no other art form quite could. Some people believe that the adaptation of Jazz by white corrupted the genre, however, when the effects of the mixing whites and blacks in Jazz are looked at in context of the civil rights movement and the fight for equality, it becomes clear that Jazz was just as instrumental to the success of the movement as speeches and protests were. Jazz has a special place in American identity. That place will continue to change as time goes on, but it is clear that the development of Jazz and the culture surrounding the genre were critical to the development of the ... • 40. Impact Of Romanticism In The Late Victorian Age I was a man who stood in the symbolic relations to the art and culture of my age. 1 The late Victorian age saw a revolution in the sphere of art and literature. John Ruskin, Matthew Arnold, Walter Pater, and Oscar Wilde were among the most influential art and literary critics of the yellow nineties. They baffled the British opinion with their brand new stance on literature, paintings, and sculptures. They turned criticism into a new form of art, which redefined and theorised art as well as literature. Their new theories were utterly modern and absolutely new for the period, which has come to be known as the English Renaissance. As a frontispiece we will have an etching of the fictitious Portrait of Mr W.H, 11 while the other studies The Decay of lying and Pen, poison and Pencil had both been published in periodicals the Nineteenth Century and the Fortnight in January 1889. • 41. The Benefits of Sin Revealed in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The... The Benefits of Sin Revealed in The Scarlet Letter According to Nathaniel Hawthorne in The Scarlet Letter, each of us is born with original sin we have inherited from the misdeeds of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. As Eve bit hungrily into the apple from the Tree of Knowledge, starving for wisdom, little did she know that the entire human race would thereafter be tainted by her sin. Hawthorne and many others believe that ever since, human beings have been inclined to evil, more likely to disobey than to act in a godly manner. This is a faithless, cynical view of humanity, but one perhaps justified by the actions of Hester Prynne and the Reverend Dimmesdale. Sin seems to be an inevitable factor in their lives; though ... Laws of the heart were unimportant; after all, how could one live by laws that were not even verbalized or written in any way? Puritan society was so rigid, so strict, that other rules were not even considered. Hester s sin comes from her refusal to ignore that other set of rules: the rules of her soul. I read about Hester s predicament and think, She was following her heart. How is being true to herself a sin? But in the 17th century in Puritan America, the individual did not create rules. Society did. Granted, the structure and laws of society are needed to some extent in order to prevent chaos. But some matters are not the business of government. Hester s sin should have been private, if it had been a sin at all in her eyes. She could not escape societal laws, though, and her sin darkened in her eyes and made her ashamed. It is no wonder that Hester is so confused by her sin and its implications, because her guilt is contradictory in and of itself. The scarlet letter she wears, the symbol of her sin, and her little daughter Pearl, the product of her sin, remind her every day of how she has done wrong. And yet, in some mysterious way, these marks of sin save her from other sins. Pearl, though looked upon by others as a devilish child, is perhaps a gift to Hester. Without Pearl, ... As Einstein pointed out, by looking into nature you could discover something new about yourself and the world around you. John Muir and William Wordsworth both discovered joy when they looked deep into nature. This joy gave them a new perspective on nature and life and they each expressed this joy through different works of writing. Both authors have a unique outlook on nature and its impact as well as different thoughts on how to share their relationships; Muir used diction and connotationto show his relationship in his essay The Calypso Borealis where Wordsworth used tone and syntax in his poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. John Muir expressed his relationship with nature in his essay titled The Calypso Borealis by using diction and connotation. The emergence of international organizations and international norms has undoubtedly changed the way states exercise power in international politics. On the one hand, international organizations may have a large influence over the behavior of states by spreading international norms, such as self determination, that then help shape foreign policy. They could also be viewed as a form of global governance that ameliorates nationalistic aggression. However, Keohane stresses, this does not by any means undermine prospects for cooperation in general (Keohane, Mitigation, p. 155). The UN does little to constrain Russia s behavior and to influence the outcome becauase of its wide and diverse membership and the lack of common interests between the key decision makers the Security Council. In essence, the UN takes on the same bilateral nature of its members, resulting in indecisive action. Russia s veto of the UN resolution that declared Crimea illegal on March 15 is a clear example of this. As realists would say, the UN as an international organization is simply another measure of national sovereignty: the Organization is based on the principle of sovereign equality (Charter of the United Nations, Chapter I Article II). No state is willing to make a decision that will undermine its own sovereignty. However, NATO and the EU, organizations that comprise of fewer members who share deeper political interests and ideologies, become central actors themselves and are not just an institutional form of the balance of powers.
