The Seagram Building Essay examples
The Seagram Building is prime example of the international style of design in the 20th century. The
building is a true landmark of the city having an open plaza at the base of the building with high
ceilings, floor to ceiling tinted windows and bronze mullions. Its imperious design, set in a plaza with
fountain, was imitated many times and became an icon of North American corporate design. Mies is
known as the father of the steel and glass structure. Mies designed many buildings during his life
however none of the would be as popular and famous as the Seagram Building.
In real estate and architecture, some dreams need a lot of staying power to get realized. The Seagram
Building is the realization, some three decades late, of Mies van ... Show more content on

Yet its much heralded plaza, which led the city to rewrite much of its office district zoning in 1961 to
encourage similar open public spaces in new projects, is not really appropriate or necessary on as
broad a landscaped boulevard as Park Avenue.
Although the plaza has no formal seating, its low, dark green, polished granite north and south walls
are Park Avenue s most popular seating areas in good weather. The plaza has two rectangular
reflecting pools at its north and south ends that are filled with forests of Christmas trees during the
holiday seasons. For many years, a large Henry Moore sculpture was placed off center in the plaza.
Credit for the Seagram s high quality goes to Phyllis Lambert, the daughter of Samuel Bronfman, the
head of Seagram s. Bronfman had selected Charles Luckman to design his proposed tower at the site.
Luckman, as chance had it, had been the chief executive officer of Lever Brothers before becoming a
full time architect. Lambert, who had studied architecture, convinced her father to switch architects
and upgrade the project and recommended Mies van der Rohe, who was internationally recognized but
without a signature building in New York.
With more than 800,000 square feet of office space, the Seagram Building is not petite. By setting
back its tower, whose front facade rises without setbacks, so far on the site to create the plaza,

The United States Illogical Practice of Democratic Peace...
The idea of a lasting, ideally global, peace has been present in the minds of people for centuries. The
most notable formulation of this is Kant s vision of perpetual peace. He saw it as a condition that
needed to be maintained by politics between states with governments which represented society and
separation of power. From this basic framework stems the idea called democratic peace theory (pg.
82). Democratic Peace Theory (DPT) asserts that democracies do not generally fight other
democracies because they share common norms and domestic institutions that constrain international,
state actors from going to war. Sebastian Rosato states, In practical terms democratic peace theory
provides the intellectual justification for the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The normative side of the theory, while powerful, can be a double edged sword. Implementing the
normative side theory can be dangerous according to an individuals or groups subjective
interpretation. The idea of global peace and security is so seductive that normative logic can be used to
justify war. Woodrow Wilson, a firm believer in Kant s ideas, told Congress, The world must be made
safe for democracy when asking it to declare war on Germany. Furthermore, the justification for war
in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, allowed George W. Bush and Tony Blair to state they are
bringing democracy to Afghanistan (pg. 20).Subjective interpretation of what democracy is can be
used to validate aggression.
Institutional Logic Institutional logic states, Democratic institutions and processes make leaders
accountable to a wide range of social groups that may, in a variety of circumstances, oppose war
(Rosato, pg. 587). The accountability of political elites wanting to stay in office means they must be
ready to discredit unpopular policies and align themselves with other elites who share the same
interests. Democratic states also allow for freedom of speech and a supposedly transparent political
process, meaning the mass public can monitor and rate the government s performance holding these
leaders accountable. However, Roasto states, because they are conscious of their

The Illiad by Homer
The first person in The Iliad that can be considered god like is Trojan prince Hector. He is also a
commander on the Trojan side, and he truly the greatest Trojan warrior. The character of this Trojan
hero is dynamic and changes throughout the book. At the beginning of the book he acts like a great
warrior should. He is the most brave out of all the Trojans. Hector leads his army and never fails. In
the later part of the book we see Hector as a brave warrior but we are also introduced to his other side,
his fear of death. Although he, like all of the other warriors in the Ancient times, knows that through
the battle he can earn his eternal glory, he cares more about his family and he knows that if the Trojan
army fails, the Greeks will kill his son and take his wife as a slave girl.
We first meet Hector when he is already on the battlefield and he is encouraging his brother Paris after
he challenged great Greek warrior, Menelaus. Hector shows that he is an honorable man, and that
fleeing and not fighting is not a way of a real Trojan hero. Paris brother tells him ...Would to god you
d never been born, died unwed. That s all I d ask. he continues saying Better that way by far than to
have u strutting here, an outrage a mockery in the eyes of all our enemies... (3.44 49) Hector tells Paris
that he should act like a prince, and he should be more honorable because he is the reason of the whole
Trojan war. Hector calls him a coward and tells him that ...years ago they d

Essay on Marlow s Racism in Joseph Conrad s Heart of...
Marlow s Racism in Heart of Darkness
Heart of Darkness is an intriguing story as well as a symbol for Joseph Conrad s social commentary
on imperialism. Marlow s journey takes him deep into the African Congo where he bears witness to a
number of life altering revelations. He beholds his most striking revelation when he begins to compare
the civilized European man with the savage African man. These two opposing forces represent the two
conflicting viewpoints present in every dilemma, be it cultural, social, or otherwise. As a modern
European man who believes religiously in imperialism, Marlow is inherently arrogant. Yet, although
he cannot accept the African jungle as being equally important as imperialism, his ... Show more

No; you want a deliberate belief. * The inherent strength of civilized people is in our ability to trust to
faith, to believe so much in something that it will preserve our sense of self even when it is threatened
by total absence of, even the opposite conditions of, all that formed to make it. The Africans fascinate
Marlow, lure that part of him that wants to escape from the surface realities created by sociality. Is it a
deliberate belief that saves him from asserting his attraction, or an accident of situation? You wonder I
didn t go ashore for a howl and a dance? Well, no I didn t. Fine sentiments, you say? Fine sentiments
be hanged! I had no time. I had to mess about with white lead and strips of woollen blanket helping to
put bandages on those leaky steam pipes, I tell you. ...There was surface truth enough in these things
to save a wiser man. * The technological realities of civilized man happened to allow him to focus his
thoughts on work. This reconciles with the notion of a deliberate belief because Marlow unshakeably
believes that work contains truth (and he can assert this truth against the truth of the Africans) and is
not another system of surface reality (Hubbard 125) . Marlow sees his journey as a demonstration of
the failure of surface realities to restrain man from gratifying his instinctual lusts; their failure in even
remaining surface truths but degenerating in the minds of man to

Essay On A Old Farm House
I keep an extra coat in the barn. He shrugged out of his jacket, holding it out to her. Take this. He was
much more layered than her and they weren t far from the barn. You don t have to do that Rick, she
said, beginning to shake her head. I m fine. Really. It s just a little windy is all. It s only gonna get
colder and there s a lot to do out here. She gave him a soft smile, taking the coat from him. Thanks.
Once they were in the barn she watched in fascination as he mucked out the stalls and supplied the
animals with fresh hay and feed. Then he and Carl demonstrated how to groom the horse. It was
obvious that she was a little out of her element and had probably never been in close proximity to

I ll tell you that. Smells a lot better. It s easy Michonne, Carl said, pulling her in the opposite direction,

slowly like this, Carl said in a low voice as he patted the side of the cow. Then we have to clean them
with warm water. She watched as he washed the cow teats with warm water before demonstrating how
to dry them off. He then demonstrated how the strip the teat and placed a bucket underneath to show
her how to milk by hand. In the end, she managed to milk one of the cows on her own and did a very
adorable victory dance after her accomplishment. After leaving the barn, they spent the rest of the day
indoors, playing some dusty board games that Rick didn t even know was in the house. They were
remnants of the house s previous inhabitants. Michonne insisted that they had to play, because it was
the ultimate snow day activity. He smiled, thinking of how long it had been since he was able to just
be carefree as Michonne seemed to be. Little did he know; her carefree attitude would eventually
extend to him and his developing household. In the short hours he spent getting to know her, she
revealed herself to be funny, light hearted and had a unique perspective of life. She wasn t afraid to
have fun or get in touch with her inner child. She wasn t someone who led a normal life and she lived
just as she wanted, doing what made her happy.

Medical Malpractice Law Firm
What is a medical malpractice law firm?
A New York medical malpractice law firm is one in which its lawyers focus on the needs of clients
who have experienced injury, illness, or death due to wrongful action or inaction at the hands of the
medical practitioners to whom they have entrusted their care.
The majority of practitioners prove their competence every day, working diligently and ethically in the
care of their patients. Even so Doctors continue to harm patients through malpractice. That small
percentage adds up to enough negligence cases that we and other law firms have made medical
practice litigation a primary focal point.

Pathophysiology Research Paper
1a. Pathophysiology is a key factor in understanding how the body works. One aspect where it is very
important is pH disturbances of the body. Respiratory alkalosis is when there is a commotion in the
pH balance when there is alveolar hyperventilation in the lungs. This in return can cause a decline in
pressure of carbon dioxide causing an increase in bicarbonate. In return the pH level increases.
Respiratory acidosis is a pH balance disturbance that occurs in response to alveolar hypoventilation.
As carbon dioxide is produced ventilation failure increases the pressure of carbon dioxide. After this
happens the pH level decreases. Metabolic alkalosis is an increase in the body s amount of
bicarbonate. When the body loses too much hydrogen from the body, and/or retains too much
bicarbonate, this issue can occur. Metabolic acidosis is an occurrence during which there is an increase
in acids or a decrease in bicarbonate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Funerals, Ruals And Funerals
Funerals and the accompanying ceremonies and rituals are as diverse as the people who perform them.
I was raised Roman Catholic and have had first hand experience with the tradition of receiving the
Sacrament of Last Rights before a person dies. When I was seven years old, I had an emergency
appendectomy that was done laparoscopically. Ten days after surgery, I became very ill with a high
fever, vomiting, and intense abdominal pains. My mother rushed me to the hospital where I was
admitted and taken to the operating room for an emergency surgery. While in surgery, they discovered
I had a surgical infection in my lower right quadrant. They ran my bowel and found a lump in my
mesentery, but they could not biopsy it because it was too close to a major artery. After surgery, I was
recovering well and looking forward to going home. On my third day post operation, I was difficult to
rouse and eventually became unresponsive with my heart rate dropping to eight beats per minute. I
was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit where I was given Last Rights by the hospital priest because
they did not think I was going to make it through the night. I do not remember receiving the sacrament
that night, but I do remember the second time. Things got a little better, but then I started
hemorrhaging from my nose. That, combined with my blood loss from surgery, resulted in me needing
a blood transfusion. I received Last Rights for a second time after the central line was placed. I
remember the priest making a cross on my forehead and the palms of my hand. He prayed and blessed
my soul so that if I were to die, I could go to Heaven. I remember feeling a sense of calm, but that
could have been the narcotics. The idea of blessing someone before death to ensure that they get to
heaven is interesting to me. It almost seems as though you can live your life as sinfully as you want to
but when the time comes, if you confess and repent, then all is forgiven. That is quite odd to me. It is
interesting to have had Last Rights twice and still be alive. It makes me wonder if God decided it was
not my time. Despite the priest s best attempts to bless my soul for the journey to heaven. Funeral
costs are something that I do not think I will ever

How Forensic Science Advances Have Caused More People
This is my Case Study about Keith Henderson, the basic details of the case are as follows; he
indecently assaulted a 16 year old girl while knocking her boyfriend to the ground causing him
injuries. He then falsely imprisoned them both at gunpoint in a field and made the boy laydown while
she performed sexual acts upon him. (http://www.bbc.co.uk) This case provides a great insight into
how forensic science advances have caused more people to be convicted of their crimes. Crime scene
investigators found a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) profile from a single sperm head at the time,
which was not enough to conduct a forensic analysis. At last a decade later, forensic scientists had a
way to make the DNA useable through developments known as ... Show more content on

The 16 year old boyfriend was hit at the back of the head and lost consciousness temporarily.
Henderson grabbed the girl and held her at gunpoint threatening to shoot her if she spoke, he forced
them both to climb over a gate into a field. This is when he instructed the boy to lay flat on the ground
of which he then forced the girl to perform sexual actions. Despite being traumatised by the event the
girl ensured that Henderson s DNA was planted upon her clothes. (http://www.independent.co.uk/)
This was a key feature into prosecuting and bringing Henderson to justice. It played a key role in the
forensic investigation behind the case. Forensic evidence secured the case which put Henderson
behind bars for 12 and a half years and put him on the sex offenders register for life. He was
imprisoned for his crimes in July 2012 almost 11 years after he s offence.
This case shows how forensic science can greatly aid the police service as when they conducted this
original investigation; they had no suspects and eliminated more than 1500 people from their enquires.
There were no developments in the case for over a decade, and it would have stayed that way if it
wasn t for DNA advances. CH INSP Memory explained Advances in forensic science have brought
Henderson to justice as despite a large manhunt at the time of the offence he had never featured in the

Justification And Justifications Of Motive Talks Basing...
Introduction
The purpose of the paper that I am writing is to reveal accounts of excuses and justifications within
motive talks basing exposure on any and all delinquent behaviors that politicians or those yet to attain
power. Forgetting who it was that got them elected to begin with, indulgences in uncanny behaviors,
there are those who are seen as wholly incompetent of being human let alone be in positions of power.
These accounts are more than recent ranging from May 2015 to March 2016, showcasing how not all
those who have been elected by the people with their false promises did not deserve the support they
got. Able to blatantly disregard all rules, laws, regulations bending the law just to accommodate
themselves, where anyone else would normally be prosecuted. Three accounts analyzing articles will
be developed upon in this paper the first, condemning the condemner, the second, appeal to higher
loyalty, and lastly, scapegoating. Each of these accounts is directly represented by their respective
articles and how power absentmindedly leads to corruption.
Definitions Section The commonsense definition of motives that I had before the course was that
motives can be seen as the reasons that enable us to make certain decisions regarding our actions. To
me a motive was or could be looked at as an incentive, something that could push a human in terms of
having made a clear and definitive reason for undertaking or embarking on certain endeavors. Being
the reason why one

French Revolution Dbq Research Paper
During the late 18th century, France was divided into two different social classes of people. One, were
the first and second estate who were very wealthy and yielded political power. They consisted of the
clergy, nobles, and royalty. The rest of the population of France, the 97%, were poor common people
that had poverty and high tax imposed on them, and they were known as the third estate. The third
estate wanted democracy, and the first and second estate wanted a monarchy, which caused the French
revolution. Napoleon Bonaparte, a returning general of France from a successful military campaign in

He provided equality for people in the Napoleonic Code written in 1804. Every Frenchman shall enjoy
civil rights (Source F). This provided equality for all that were French, and for all French that were

during the French revolution, so by decreeing this in the code, Napoleon betrays one of the ideals of
the French revolution. Also in the Napoleonic code, Napoleon betrays another ideal that was pushed
for during the French revolution. The laws are executory throughout the whole French territory, by
virtue of promulgation thereof made by the first Consul. (Source F). Napoleon, being the first consul
of France, gives himself a significant amount of control over France by forcing any laws that he
decrees to be followed by all citizens in France. Ironically he gives rights to some, but forces all to
obey him and his laws. One of the main reasons the French revolution commenced was because the
people of France believed in a government where all had rights and political power, rather than only
the rich. The decades fought and the bloodshed was for a democracy, but here, Napoleon returns

The Law Of Obligation And The Criminal Law
The English system law has been described as a common law rather than a civil law system. To begin
with, there is a significant difference between the civil and criminal law. On the one hand, the purpose
of the civil law will be to settle disputes between private s parties. On the other hand, criminal law is
the body of law that punish criminal offenses and protect the innocent.
In order to complete our essay, we will first focus on the fact that a link clearly exists between tort and
contract law. The law of tort and contract are part of the law of obligations . They are indeed similar in
nature, but, a sharp distinction can t be denied, while obligations in contract law are set by the parties
themselves, obligations in tort are set by the law. The law of obligation is a branch of the civil law
legal system.
Hence the idea, that similarities and differences can be demonstrate between the law of obligation and
the criminal law.
Firstly, both contract and tort law are both delimited by obligations and usually deal with a duty that
has been breached. Liabilities are part of the civil liability responsibility.
The nature of obligation in a contractual relationship is established by the terms of the contract. The
parties must respect their duties or liabilities arising out of the obligation undertaken by the contract. A
breach of contract is a breach of a legal obligation. In tort law, the nature of the obligation is not
agreed between the parties, but arises by virtue

Innocents and Hope of Children Corrupted
It is common knowledge that children represent innocence and hope for the future. Many individuals,
unfortunately, take advantage of such innocence and corrupt it. This corruption has taken place around
the world with no end in sight. The corruption of children can take place in many forms, such as
emotionally and psychologically but the most gruesome method is for sexual exploitation and
pornography. Child pornography is historically extremely difficult to define. The first brush
occurrence of child pornography with American law was the memorable case of Jacobeelis v. Ohio
378 US 184 in 1964 (Gillespie, 2010, p. 19). In this case, the well known phrase of I know it when I
see it is used to describe how child pornographic material differs from adult pornography by Supreme
Court Justice Stewart. This phrase is still used by law professionals today but it has caused difficulties
because there is no apparent definition for law enforcement to know what to investigate and prevent.
Very late in the century, the United States, along with England and Wales, established the first laws to
handle child pornography, but there was little guidelines set to distinguish between adult and children
pornography (Gillespie, 2010, p. 20). Distinguishing between the two categories of pornography is
carried out with three main components: the meaning of child, which is determined with biological
measures such as puberty to identify the age, the form of the material, the form that the obscene

How Does Flaubert Inserts Savage Horse Behavior
In the novel Madame Bovary , the author, Gustave Flaubert inserts savage horse behavior within
characters decision making and actions to prepare the audience for the characters internal and external
outcome. Flaubert accomplishes the predicted finale of characters by including a horse trait or horse s
usage. Constantly throughout the book a horse is present, but Flaubert carefully plays with when and
where to connect a horse and character. Flaubert connects the two by giving a meaningless description
of either a character or scene that ironically comes with great value as a clue. With Flaubert s
technique of including horse trait foredows the downfall of the Bovary s life.
To begin with, the inclusion of untamed horses attempting to escape domestication foreshadows
Emma s future decisions to abandon her husband. On the night when the newlyweds had just gotten
married. The men, women and children were joining themselves while their horses stuffed up to the
nostrils with oats, could hardly be got into shafts, they kicked reared the hardness broke (Flaubert 19).
The description of the wild horses behavior demonstrates Emma s inner emotions on her wedding day.
It symbolizes Emma s cry for help, signifying the fact that Emma does not truly love Charles nor ...

This put the CSM team into disarray, as staff were very unhappy and felt much unmotivated.
Between 10 am and 1130 am the CSM go around the hospital collecting information on the safety of

areas See Appendix 1 which displays the areas the CSM had to visit within the time frame above .The
information gathered needs to be on time that we end up ringing some of the areas we cannot go to. As
well as due to the geographical setting of the hospital, some locations take 15 mins .Some CSM due
health reasons are unable to walk the long distances. The senior CSM s role involves making sure all
clinical and operational challenges are escalated to right people. I decided to consult with the CSM
team as I came into post after the merger but before the consultation and realised we were not getting

It was important for me to understand why we had to change by process mapping the current process
by collecting and analysing the service along with making sure staff views in order to figure where
improvements were to be made. Raghavan (2015) suggests doing a root cause analysis (RCA) on the

Problems Associated With Flood Patterns And Poor Water...
Introduction
The River Churn has various issues associated with flood patterns and poor water quality, affected by
continually changing land use patterns. A bi product is the negative impact that poor water quality has
had on ecology. The main aim therefore was to improve the water quality and biodiversity in order to
meet the demands of EU Legislation, during a three year pilot project. The approach was provided by
the WILD Project (Water with Integrated Local Delivery). The WILD Project was initiated in 2013, by
FWAG (The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group), set within the Cotswold Water Park (FWAG
South West, 2015).
The EU Legislative Body is the Water Framework Directive (WFD) defining a water body as not a
commercial product like any others, but instead a heritage which must be protected, defended and
treated as such (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). Under the
Community Water Policy Seminar (1998), the need for Community legislation covering ecological
quality was established. Therefore an integrated Community policy on water was developed, an area
that the WILD Project has incorporated, using an Integrated Local Delivery method integrated with a
Catchment Based Approach . The main objective was achieving the good ecological status on all
surface and groundwater, or in heavily modified sections the river must achieve good ecological
potential (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). The

Definitions: In determining the scope of coverage, the insurance policy depends on a very specific and
very clear meaning of the terms and phrases. Since these terms and phrases are often repeated many
times in an insurance policy, a single definition of a term or phrase is included in the definition of the
policy, rather than when the term is used. When the term is defined in the insurance terms, the reader

Conversion is percentage (number) of applicants that are admitted.
Closure is percentage (number) of admits who enroll.
Applicant stage is the first and very important point in the enrollment funnel for which sufficient data
are present and known. Two jobs ago, I worked at Conestoga College in Kitchener and details how
application process works are known to me. Also, in research was used article from WLU Core
newspaper from July 16, 2014. In present school system, by the end of February up to 80% of all
applicant data will be at University s disposal, including admissions decisions, financial aid and
awards that will be processed at various offices.
Then, I appologized to both of them before asking this very blunt question:

It means that acceptance letters were sent to 1112 students. Last year closure rate was 20% for the
same 200 spots. It means that acceptance letters were sent to 1000 students last year. So, wrong
conclusion was achieved: technically, yes closure rate was lower this year but all available spots were
filled anyway without sacrificing quality. (The other question that could be asked is: are they willing
(or able) to expand and teach more students?) However, no matter how data were understood, the
research could not be stopped at this point and more questions were asked (again followed by
answers), but some of them were requiring conducting observational research and surveys:
1) How to feed funnel of University of Kitchener?
No enrollment is possible without adequate inquiries Inquiry pool has to be large enough to sustain the
growth.
Identifying Target Markets:
A) Adjust applicant pool in such a way to ultimately enroll the students that meet your strategic goals.
B) Population projections (e.g., high school grads by city/region/province)
C) High school market research (identify target schools that graduate the type of students you want;

Similarities and Differences between Gilgamesh and Enkindu
The Myth known today as the epic of Gilgamesh was considered in ancient times to be one of the
great masterpieces of cuneiform literature. The tale revolves around a legendary hero named
Gilgamesh, who was known said to be the king of the Sumerian city of uruk.Gilgamesh was known to
have supernatural abilities and be half human and half god similar to his best friend who was later
known known as Enkindu. This person was also blessed with supernatural abilities and was half human
half animal.Gilgamesh and Enkindu both have similar traits such as they both use love as a motivating

Then on page 21 Enkindu stood watch for the shepherds against the lions so that the shepherds could
get a good night sleep, this protects the shepherds and feeds them. This shows the power that Enkindu
has by fighting of lions, capturing wolves and keeping the shepherds safe. So basically Gilgamesh
who is half human and half God, he thinks he is the most powerful person on this Earth and thinks he
can do whatever he wants whenever he wants. He takes every woman there is, even the ones that are
getting married. Since he is very ignorant and doesn t care about his people, the people complained to
the Gods who then create a double of Gilgamesh who is called Enkindu, who was just as smart and
strong as Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu also had differences it seemed that they had their own
journey within each other s journey. Enkidu s journey starts of when the prostitutes were order by
Gilgamesh to go and get Enkidu. This is because Enkidu saves his former animal friends from cages.
This to me to is the starting point of Enkidu journey towards Gilgamesh. This journey was mentored
by the prostitute who was also the tempter. As Enkidu finds his way to Gilgamesh this starts a whole
new journey. This journey was shortlived because later on as the story goes on Gilgamesh and enkindu
goes on and kills both humbaba and the bull of heaven, which the godess Ishtar sends to punish
Gilgamesh for spurring her advances. As a punishment for these actions, the gods sentence Enkindu

The Use Of Enhanced Interrogation Techniques ( Eits )
The one lesson we ve learned from history is that we have not learned any of history s lessons
(Unknown Author, n.d.). The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the use of Enhanced Interrogation
Techniques (EITs) such as waterboarding and extraordinary rendition (aka black sites ) by CIA agents
for American intelligence interests and to analyze the drastically apposing views of the legalities,
morality, and effectiveness of these methods. Is the CIA s use of EITs and extraordinary rendition
equivalent to torture, and therefore, acts in violation of international law? The definition of torture
under statute 18 U.S.C. 2340 states, torture means an act committed by a person acting under the color
of law specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering (other than pain or
suffering incidental to lawful sanctions) upon another person within his custody or physical control
(United States Code, 2011). This definition expands with specific identifying characteristics of an act
and varies to include humiliation of an individual. Of course, pain and suffering is a subjective
experience. The worlds historical practice of torture reinforces lessons that human s imaginative
capacity for inflicting pain and terror on our fellow human is disgracefully boundless; yet, parallel
behaviors of violence and humiliation reemerge with disturbing regularity (Smith, 2013). The events
on September 11, 2001 (9/11) left the nation in disbelief that American

Consequences Of Drinking And Driving In The United States
The deadliest drunk driving accident in the U.S. occurred in 1988 on Interstate 71 in
Kentucky when a drunk driver with a BAC level of .24 g/dL caused a head on collision with a school
bus. The crash and ensuing fire killed 27 people (most of them children) and injured 34 others (Van
Tuyl). In this essay the things that will be discussed is the consequences of drunk driving, accidents
caused by drunk driving, casualties caused by drunk driving, and how community service should be
the consequence for drunk driving instead of having the driver s license taken away for a year.

they would learn their lesson quicker and stop drinking and then driving home for example; second it
would be more beneficial for the community they would be cleaning up the community and helping
the community get in better shape; and thirdly if the driver had their license taken away there would
be barely anyone on the roads because so many people drink and drive and then get caught so it would
mean places like the gas stations, car dealerships, etc. would not get as much business if people had
their license taken away for a whole year.
In conclusion, drinking and driving should have more strict consequences and there should be more
consequences than they are now there should be consequences that are so strict and hard that they
make the driver never want to drink and then go drive because there are so many accidents occurring
from people driving drunk and there are a lot of fatal crashes occurring from people drinking and then

Characteristics Of The Frontal Lobe
The frontal lobe is directly at the front part of the brain and this particular lobe controls the thinking
process, language, planning, making decisions, and also controls your behavior as well as your
emotions. There are three main sections of the frontal lobe which is the prefrontal cortex, the premotor
area, and the motor area. The most important function of the frontal lobe is that it contains the motor
cortex. The motor cortex has cells that control the movements of our body s voluntary muscles and
sends commands to the PNS (Peripheral Nervous System). The prefrontal cortex job is for high
cognitive thinking and also plays a factor when it comes to your personality. The premotor area is
known for helping the body move by integrating sensory information and controlling the muscles that
are closest to the body s main axis. The left frontal lobe side of the brain develops the process of
speech and language known as the Broca s area. In the event that damage takes place to the Broca s
Area, it will cause a person to have speech difficulties and their brain will be able to process the
information yet the patient will still have difficulties when it comes to speech. In the event that the
front part is damaged it can cause so many complications and issues. Difficulty retaining information,
apathy, delayed response to questions, scatterbrained, and inappropriate social behavior. If the back
part of the frontal lobe is damaged it can cause extreme weakness and in some cases

Essay on Loving v. Virginia (388 U.S. 1)
On July 11, 1958 a couple of hours after midnight, Richard Loving a white man and Mildred Loving
an African American woman were awakened to the presence of three officers in their bedroom. One of
the three officers demanded from Richard to identify the woman next to him. Mildred, full of fear, told
the officers that she was his wife, while Richard pointed to the marriage license on the wall. The
couple was then charged and later found guilty in violation of the state s anti miscegenation statute.
Mr. and Mrs. Loving were residents of the small town of Central point, Virginia. They were family
friends who had dated each other since he was seventeen and she a teenager. When they learned that

to the same degree. Thus, ... because its miscegenation statutes punish equally both the white and the
Negro participants in an interracial marriage, these statutes, ... do not constitute an invidious
discrimination based upon race.
The court also referred to its 1955 decision in Naim v. Naim as stating the reasons supporting the
validity of the anti miscegenation laws. In Naim, the state court concluded that the State s legitimate
purposes were quot;to preserve the racial integrity of its citizens, quot; and to prevent quot;the
corruption of blood, quot; quot;a mongrel breed of citizens, quot; and quot;the obliteration of racial
pride, quot; obviously an endorsement of the doctrine of White Supremacy. The court also reasoned
that marriage has traditionally been subject to state regulation without federal intervention, and
consequently, the regulation of marriage should be left to exclusive state control by the Tenth
Amendment.
The statements related to the courts attempt to quot;preserve the racial integrity of its citizens quot;
would have been ludicrous any place but was especially laughable in Caroline County, and in the
Lovings hometown of Central Point, which had been an epicenter of race mixing for at least 200
years. White families and their fair skinned black relatives lived so close together that they bumped

  • 2. The Seagram Building Essay examples The Seagram Building is prime example of the international style of design in the 20th century. The building is a true landmark of the city having an open plaza at the base of the building with high ceilings, floor to ceiling tinted windows and bronze mullions. Its imperious design, set in a plaza with fountain, was imitated many times and became an icon of North American corporate design. Mies is known as the father of the steel and glass structure. Mies designed many buildings during his life however none of the would be as popular and famous as the Seagram Building. In real estate and architecture, some dreams need a lot of staying power to get realized. The Seagram Building is the realization, some three decades late, of Mies van ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet its much heralded plaza, which led the city to rewrite much of its office district zoning in 1961 to encourage similar open public spaces in new projects, is not really appropriate or necessary on as broad a landscaped boulevard as Park Avenue. Although the plaza has no formal seating, its low, dark green, polished granite north and south walls are Park Avenue s most popular seating areas in good weather. The plaza has two rectangular reflecting pools at its north and south ends that are filled with forests of Christmas trees during the holiday seasons. For many years, a large Henry Moore sculpture was placed off center in the plaza. Credit for the Seagram s high quality goes to Phyllis Lambert, the daughter of Samuel Bronfman, the head of Seagram s. Bronfman had selected Charles Luckman to design his proposed tower at the site. Luckman, as chance had it, had been the chief executive officer of Lever Brothers before becoming a full time architect. Lambert, who had studied architecture, convinced her father to switch architects and upgrade the project and recommended Mies van der Rohe, who was internationally recognized but without a signature building in New York. With more than 800,000 square feet of office space, the Seagram Building is not petite. By setting back its tower, whose front facade rises without setbacks, so far on the site to create the plaza, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The United States Illogical Practice of Democratic Peace... The idea of a lasting, ideally global, peace has been present in the minds of people for centuries. The most notable formulation of this is Kant s vision of perpetual peace. He saw it as a condition that needed to be maintained by politics between states with governments which represented society and separation of power. From this basic framework stems the idea called democratic peace theory (pg. 82). Democratic Peace Theory (DPT) asserts that democracies do not generally fight other democracies because they share common norms and domestic institutions that constrain international, state actors from going to war. Sebastian Rosato states, In practical terms democratic peace theory provides the intellectual justification for the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The normative side of the theory, while powerful, can be a double edged sword. Implementing the normative side theory can be dangerous according to an individuals or groups subjective interpretation. The idea of global peace and security is so seductive that normative logic can be used to justify war. Woodrow Wilson, a firm believer in Kant s ideas, told Congress, The world must be made safe for democracy when asking it to declare war on Germany. Furthermore, the justification for war in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, allowed George W. Bush and Tony Blair to state they are bringing democracy to Afghanistan (pg. 20).Subjective interpretation of what democracy is can be used to validate aggression. Institutional Logic Institutional logic states, Democratic institutions and processes make leaders accountable to a wide range of social groups that may, in a variety of circumstances, oppose war (Rosato, pg. 587). The accountability of political elites wanting to stay in office means they must be ready to discredit unpopular policies and align themselves with other elites who share the same interests. Democratic states also allow for freedom of speech and a supposedly transparent political process, meaning the mass public can monitor and rate the government s performance holding these leaders accountable. However, Roasto states, because they are conscious of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Illiad by Homer The first person in The Iliad that can be considered god like is Trojan prince Hector. He is also a commander on the Trojan side, and he truly the greatest Trojan warrior. The character of this Trojan hero is dynamic and changes throughout the book. At the beginning of the book he acts like a great warrior should. He is the most brave out of all the Trojans. Hector leads his army and never fails. In the later part of the book we see Hector as a brave warrior but we are also introduced to his other side, his fear of death. Although he, like all of the other warriors in the Ancient times, knows that through the battle he can earn his eternal glory, he cares more about his family and he knows that if the Trojan army fails, the Greeks will kill his son and take his wife as a slave girl. We first meet Hector when he is already on the battlefield and he is encouraging his brother Paris after he challenged great Greek warrior, Menelaus. Hector shows that he is an honorable man, and that fleeing and not fighting is not a way of a real Trojan hero. Paris brother tells him ...Would to god you d never been born, died unwed. That s all I d ask. he continues saying Better that way by far than to have u strutting here, an outrage a mockery in the eyes of all our enemies... • 6. Essay on Marlow s Racism in Joseph Conrad s Heart of... Marlow s Racism in Heart of Darkness Heart of Darkness is an intriguing story as well as a symbol for Joseph Conrad s social commentary on imperialism. Marlow s journey takes him deep into the African Congo where he bears witness to a number of life altering revelations. He beholds his most striking revelation when he begins to compare the civilized European man with the savage African man. These two opposing forces represent the two conflicting viewpoints present in every dilemma, be it cultural, social, or otherwise. As a modern European man who believes religiously in imperialism, Marlow is inherently arrogant. Yet, although he cannot accept the African jungle as being equally important as imperialism, his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No; you want a deliberate belief. * The inherent strength of civilized people is in our ability to trust to faith, to believe so much in something that it will preserve our sense of self even when it is threatened by total absence of, even the opposite conditions of, all that formed to make it. The Africans fascinate Marlow, lure that part of him that wants to escape from the surface realities created by sociality. Is it a deliberate belief that saves him from asserting his attraction, or an accident of situation? You wonder I didn t go ashore for a howl and a dance? Well, no I didn t. Fine sentiments, you say? Fine sentiments be hanged! I had no time. I had to mess about with white lead and strips of woollen blanket helping to put bandages on those leaky steam pipes, I tell you. ...There was surface truth enough in these things to save a wiser man. * The technological realities of civilized man happened to allow him to focus his thoughts on work. This reconciles with the notion of a deliberate belief because Marlow unshakeably believes that work contains truth (and he can assert this truth against the truth of the Africans) and is not another system of surface reality (Hubbard 125) . Marlow sees his journey as a demonstration of the failure of surface realities to restrain man from gratifying his instinctual lusts; their failure in even remaining surface truths but degenerating in the minds of man to ... He was much more layered than her and they weren t far from the barn. You don t have to do that Rick, she said, beginning to shake her head. I m fine. Really. It s just a little windy is all. It s only gonna get colder and there s a lot to do out here. She gave him a soft smile, taking the coat from him. Thanks. Once they were in the barn she watched in fascination as he mucked out the stalls and supplied the animals with fresh hay and feed. Then he and Carl demonstrated how to groom the horse. Smells a lot better. It s easy Michonne, Carl said, pulling her in the opposite direction, towards where the cattle were kept. I ll show you. And show her he did. You have to go up to them slowly like this, Carl said in a low voice as he patted the side of the cow. Then we have to clean them with warm water. She watched as he washed the cow teats with warm water before demonstrating how to dry them off. He then demonstrated how the strip the teat and placed a bucket underneath to show her how to milk by hand. In the end, she managed to milk one of the cows on her own and did a very adorable victory dance after her accomplishment. After leaving the barn, they spent the rest of the day indoors, playing some dusty board games that Rick didn t even know was in the house. They were remnants of the house s previous inhabitants. Michonne insisted that they had to play, because it was the ultimate snow day activity. He smiled, thinking of how long it had been since he was able to just be carefree as Michonne seemed to be. Little did he know; her carefree attitude would eventually extend to him and his developing household. In the short hours he spent getting to know her, she revealed herself to be funny, light hearted and had a unique perspective of life. She wasn t afraid to have fun or get in touch with her inner child. She wasn t someone who led a normal life and she lived just as she wanted, doing what made her happy. ... A New York medical malpractice law firm is one in which its lawyers focus on the needs of clients who have experienced injury, illness, or death due to wrongful action or inaction at the hands of the medical practitioners to whom they have entrusted their care. • 9. Pathophysiology Research Paper 1a. Pathophysiology is a key factor in understanding how the body works. One aspect where it is very important is pH disturbances of the body. Respiratory alkalosis is when there is a commotion in the pH balance when there is alveolar hyperventilation in the lungs. This in return can cause a decline in pressure of carbon dioxide causing an increase in bicarbonate. In return the pH level increases. Respiratory acidosis is a pH balance disturbance that occurs in response to alveolar hypoventilation. As carbon dioxide is produced ventilation failure increases the pressure of carbon dioxide. After this happens the pH level decreases. Metabolic alkalosis is an increase in the body s amount of bicarbonate. When the body loses too much hydrogen from the body, and/or retains too much bicarbonate, this issue can occur. • 10. Funerals, Ruals And Funerals Funerals and the accompanying ceremonies and rituals are as diverse as the people who perform them. I was raised Roman Catholic and have had first hand experience with the tradition of receiving the Sacrament of Last Rights before a person dies. When I was seven years old, I had an emergency appendectomy that was done laparoscopically. Ten days after surgery, I became very ill with a high fever, vomiting, and intense abdominal pains. My mother rushed me to the hospital where I was admitted and taken to the operating room for an emergency surgery. While in surgery, they discovered I had a surgical infection in my lower right quadrant. They ran my bowel and found a lump in my mesentery, but they could not biopsy it because it was too close to a major artery. After surgery, I was recovering well and looking forward to going home. On my third day post operation, I was difficult to rouse and eventually became unresponsive with my heart rate dropping to eight beats per minute. I was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit where I was given Last Rights by the hospital priest because they did not think I was going to make it through the night. I do not remember receiving the sacrament that night, but I do remember the second time. Things got a little better, but then I started hemorrhaging from my nose. That, combined with my blood loss from surgery, resulted in me needing a blood transfusion. I received Last Rights for a second time after the central line was placed. I remember the priest making a cross on my forehead and the palms of my hand. He prayed and blessed my soul so that if I were to die, I could go to Heaven. I remember feeling a sense of calm, but that could have been the narcotics. The idea of blessing someone before death to ensure that they get to heaven is interesting to me. It almost seems as though you can live your life as sinfully as you want to but when the time comes, if you confess and repent, then all is forgiven. That is quite odd to me. It is interesting to have had Last Rights twice and still be alive. It makes me wonder if God decided it was not my time. How Forensic Science Advances Have Caused More People This is my Case Study about Keith Henderson, the basic details of the case are as follows; he indecently assaulted a 16 year old girl while knocking her boyfriend to the ground causing him injuries. He then falsely imprisoned them both at gunpoint in a field and made the boy laydown while she performed sexual acts upon him. (http://www.bbc.co.uk) This case provides a great insight into how forensic science advances have caused more people to be convicted of their crimes. • 16. The Law Of Obligation And The Criminal Law The English system law has been described as a common law rather than a civil law system. To begin with, there is a significant difference between the civil and criminal law. On the one hand, the purpose of the civil law will be to settle disputes between private s parties. On the other hand, criminal law is the body of law that punish criminal offenses and protect the innocent. In order to complete our essay, we will first focus on the fact that a link clearly exists between tort and contract law. The law of tort and contract are part of the law of obligations . They are indeed similar in nature, but, a sharp distinction can t be denied, while obligations in contract law are set by the parties themselves, obligations in tort are set by the law. The law of obligation is a branch of the civil law legal system. Hence the idea, that similarities and differences can be demonstrate between the law of obligation and the criminal law. Firstly, both contract and tort law are both delimited by obligations and usually deal with a duty that has been breached. Liabilities are part of the civil liability responsibility. The nature of obligation in a contractual relationship is established by the terms of the contract. The parties must respect their duties or liabilities arising out of the obligation undertaken by the contract. A breach of contract is a breach of a legal obligation. • 20. Innocents and Hope of Children Corrupted It is common knowledge that children represent innocence and hope for the future. Many individuals, unfortunately, take advantage of such innocence and corrupt it. This corruption has taken place around the world with no end in sight. The corruption of children can take place in many forms, such as emotionally and psychologically but the most gruesome method is for sexual exploitation and pornography. Child pornography is historically extremely difficult to define. The first brush occurrence of child pornography with American law was the memorable case of Jacobeelis v. Ohio 378 US 184 in 1964 (Gillespie, 2010, p. 19). In this case, the well known phrase of I know it when I see it is used to describe how child pornographic material differs from adult pornography by Supreme Court Justice Stewart. This phrase is still used by law professionals today but it has caused difficulties because there is no apparent definition for law enforcement to know what to investigate and prevent. Very late in the century, the United States, along with England and Wales, established the first laws to handle child pornography, but there was little guidelines set to distinguish between adult and children pornography (Gillespie, 2010, p. 20). Distinguishing between the two categories of pornography is carried out with three main components: the meaning of child, which is determined with biological measures such as puberty to identify the age, the form of the material, the form that the obscene ... How Does Flaubert Inserts Savage Horse Behavior In the novel Madame Bovary , the author, Gustave Flaubert inserts savage horse behavior within characters decision making and actions to prepare the audience for the characters internal and external outcome. Flaubert accomplishes the predicted finale of characters by including a horse trait or horse s usage. Constantly throughout the book a horse is present, but Flaubert carefully plays with when and where to connect a horse and character. Flaubert connects the two by giving a meaningless description of either a character or scene that ironically comes with great value as a clue. Introduction The River Churn has various issues associated with flood patterns and poor water quality, affected by continually changing land use patterns. A bi product is the negative impact that poor water quality has had on ecology. The main aim therefore was to improve the water quality and biodiversity in order to meet the demands of EU Legislation, during a three year pilot project. The approach was provided by the WILD Project (Water with Integrated Local Delivery). The WILD Project was initiated in 2013, by FWAG (The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group), set within the Cotswold Water Park (FWAG South West, 2015). The EU Legislative Body is the Water Framework Directive (WFD) defining a water body as not a commercial product like any others, but instead a heritage which must be protected, defended and treated as such (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). Under the Community Water Policy Seminar (1998), the need for Community legislation covering ecological quality was established. Therefore an integrated Community policy on water was developed, an area that the WILD Project has incorporated, using an Integrated Local Delivery method integrated with a Catchment Based Approach . The main objective was achieving the good ecological status on all surface and groundwater, or in heavily modified sections the river must achieve good ecological potential (European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, 2000). White families and their fair skinned black relatives lived so close together that they bumped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
