This set of slides is part of the course Data Visualization GE, available on FIWARE platform, whose SpagoBI is the reference implementation. This course depicts the global vision over the SpagoBI suite, the policy it carries out, its usage and its main features.

2. Introduction to the
SpagoBI Suite
TOPIC OF THE COURSE: to
depict the global vision of
the SpagoBI Suite, the
policy it carries out, its
usage and its main
features.
3. SpagoBI is a Business Intelligence
(BI) suite for integrated
enterprise BI solutions, entirely
developed according to FOSS
philosophy

We start from a definition:
4. Suite, because it covers and satisfies all the BI requirements:
Analysis (Report, OLAP, Dashboard, KPI, Chart, Data
Mining, GEO-referenced analysis, Free Inquiry,
Collaboration, etc.)
ETL
Data Management
Metadata management
Profiling and Security
Development environment
Administrator support (versioning, scheduling, approval
iter, import/export, etc)

Integration :
Not a product platform, with a predefined set of tools
Open to many products for the same/different analytical
area
It allows the best composition of one’s own platform
every time
No binding dependences on products and tools
Open standards adoption
It allows to give the right answers to analytical questions
by means of different products

Enterprise level
Integration platform (not a closed product)
Multi engine (each kind of analysis can be perfomed by
means of different engines)
Scalability
Security and visibility

Entirely Open Source
FOSS stands for Free and Open Source Software:
➔
it is about free access, customization and shareability,
➔
the level of freedom is regulated by licences (GPL, LGPL,
BSD,…)
➔
it is first of all a software distribution model, which have
also an impact on the development model.
It is not the light OS version of an enterprise commercial version.
8. The suite is made up of 5 modules:
5
MODULES TO COVER
THE ENTIRE LIFE
CYCLE PROJECT
9. The Server
Core of the suite, where all
analytical functionalities are
provided.
Works with private
repository hosted on
DBMS (MySQL, Oracle,
…)
Web application deployed into
a J2EE application server
(Tomcat, Jboss, etc.)
10. The Studio and the Meta:
where the solution becomes
concrete.
Meta
business and techincal
metadata

13. We suggest to refer to the other SpagoBI dedicated courses, available
on the FIWARE platform

, to learn how to perfom simple analysis ( “Starting with SpagoBI”) or
more complex investigations over data (“My first Report”).
