Conrad Kongkal Sangma
Politician of Meghalaya and in 2008, he
became the youngest Finance Minister of the
state Government at age 30. His Brother
James Sangma is a fellow member of the State
Legislative Assembly

5. POLITICAL CARRIER
In 1973, he became Vice-President of the
Pradesh Youth Congress in Meghalaya
From 1975 to 1980 He served as the General
Secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee of
Meghalaya
In 1977, he was elected to the 6th Lok Sabha
from Tura
He served as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya
from 1988 to 1990.
6. Political Career
He was member of Lok for eight terms, i.e.
6th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th Lok Sabha
Speaker of Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998
He was a member of Mamata Banerjee's AITMC/TMC
Sangma resigned from NCP on June 20, 2012 after
opposition from Sharad Pawar over his Presidential
candidature.
In2012 he contested against Pranab Mukherjee for the
post of the President.
He founded National People's Party on 6th of January
2013 and they got two MP seats in Meghalaya

Tuesday tried to woo Goan legislators saying: “I have a special
liking for Goa. The culture, life and food habits of people in
Goa and the North East are similar. We have a special affinity.”

• He has developed Tura quite well but neglected
other places in the state of Meghalaya
• Education, Status, Family and Politics make him
prominent
• He was jumping around like a monkey too much
from one party to the other and this has ruin his
political carrier especially during Presidential
election
• In spite of difficulties still vibrant in politics (NPP)
