BRIEF REVIEW & CHAPTER 1
 PART I is an important assignment to capture
some critical points of views regarding the
ground conditions of the Italian inland
transportation.
 Furthermore, it tries to discern the Blockchain as
an individual but valuable piece of a big puzzle.
 Since 2008, after the famous paper of Satoshi
Nakamoto, the number of literature concerning
the Blockchain Technology and specifically
about SC and Logistics are increased
 (specially in 2017).

Table 7.9.1: The Summary of Blockchain-based Use Cases
 Criteria: objectives, involved
actors (carriers, logistics
providers, 3LPs, shippers, and
port authorities), use of BCT
(why and how?), Smart Contracts?
 Smart Contracts are holding some
remarkable advantages and
they’ve been used in all cases.
 The E-CMR convention (iru.org)
CONCLUSION: RESULTS & PROPOSALS
 Strategic capabilities of BCT through logistics systems
 To establish and perform a proper Blockchain Laboratory
for investigating and developing different kind of Blockchain-
based applications/platforms for some proper use.
 The Blockchain Lab of the TU Delft [established in 2007]
would be an example of this proposal.
 Students, professors, and researchers of PoliTO need an
adequate space to work on Blockchain Technology.
 Supporting, offering, organizing, and proposing more Thesis
& Research Proposals concerning the implementation of
Distributed Ledger Technologies is extremely required.

Editor's Notes

  1. Mr Presitent, Committee Members, friends, and colleagues. Thesis Title: Distributed Ledger Technologies Applied to Logistics Systems
  2. This beautiful journey has been began for me in September 2017, when I saw the Thesis Proposal of Prof. Perboli. ICELAB: ICT (Information and Communication Technology) for City Logistics and Enterprises Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB) Thesis includes Four (4) PARTs 6 Chapters (Strategic Analysis – Critical Investigations)
  3. Distribution of the practical logistics & transportation cases
  4. Research methods paper of Satoshi Nakamoto, The results are considered from 62 studies during the analysis phase of the dissertation.
  5. Blockchain is a purely P2P ledger Firstly used in the Bitcoin cryptocurrency for economic transactions; Without going through a Central institution or a trusted third party That prevent double-spending problem Furthermore, the network automatically timestamps the whole transactions by hashing them into an ongoing chain of hash-based proof-of-work This creates an immutable truth for all members of Supply Chain That increases Transparency and decreases the transaction costs
  6. - Also, it offers Digitalization of Data While this P2P digitalization is exactly one of the needs of the Logistics Industry in these days and age. Financial SC

  8. An idea of decentralized Container Sharing system would be useful. AMAZON Italia Logistica & Inaccuracy of the Addresses NO-Idling sign for trucks
  9. The conventional Problem of Stevedores among Italian Intermodal Freight Transportation Still, there is a lot of man made movements between the transportation modes .. Lack of transparency and ..
  10. Long-haul transportation is recognized as a long distance transportation method. the “Tesla Self-Driving Demonstration” DroneChain; Blockchain-based Drone Communication Architecture. Drone for emergency transportation of blood (UPS to help deliver blood by drone in Rwanda) Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) Anki Cozmo Robot
  11. Virtual Reality (VR) is the term utilized to describe a three-dimensional, computer-generated environment Khaksari (2018) has benefited from [Augment and Aurasma] platforms to diminish the Idling Time of the Cross-modal and Intermodal Freight Logistics operations
  12. Risks of Counterfeit, Lack/shortage of Traceability of Goods, Lack/shortage Traceability of Records, the various Source of Truth, lack of Digitalization, and a huge amount of Paperworks. ADR treaty or “European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road” which is stand for the abbreviation of “Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route”. The communication system of GEGIS is made concerning the transportation of dangerous goods with safety and security in the port areas. The only problem is that the GEGIS is a centralized system.  Misleading the ADR documentation; Lack of Transparency and infringement of traffic rules.
  13. While in this third millennium the Digitizing Freight Forwarding is required more than ever, Blockchain Technology like a principal string is capable to support other Strands of logistics industry. Fig. 5.8:  The Blockchain Technology and Strands of ADR Logistics. The risk along the road (ⱴi, ⱴj) is calculated by multiplication of the incident probability (Ωij) and its consequences (Dij).
  14. - The real world of work (daily work circumstances) of the Italian logistics is sometimes brutal and mortal as well (e.g. the tragic loss of Mauro Cagnoni and  Abd El Salam).

  17. - Reply works a lot to improve their IT services regarding the Blockchain-based applications. - Their Market Focus includes: .. - Also, they work on an app. for transcation of vehicle property.
  18. - Port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe.
  19. - Heavily, they have invested on AGVs and Blockchain technology through their Cargo Flows, and also Energy and Stock Financing
  20. Walmart works with IBM On October 19, 2016, Walmart announced that it would partner with IBM and Tsinghua University to track the pork supply chain in China by using transaction security, authentication technology, and the Blockchain technology (Daniel Roberts, 2016).
  21. The first commercial application projects are already gaining traction while IBM is teaming with Maersk Line. Picture: Reefer Terminal, Savona, Italy.

IBM Blockchain for Trade Logistics & Maersk (Cross-border supply chain solution); https://youtu.be/tdhpYQCWnCw As each agency signs the contract, the information will be updated simultaneously for all supply chain players. Smart Contract & Electronic Signatures Data about the inspection of the goods, the sealing of the refrigerated container, the pick up by the truckers, and the final permission from customs are communicated to the port.
  23. Many cases for further studies Blockchain Technology in logistics industry would significantly reduce DELAYS and FRAUD According to TWO, it would increase the worldwide GDP by %5
  24. Use of SMART CONTRACT E-CMR
  25. BCT is an innovative innovation but it needs interfunctional coordination and team working by different area of engineering.
