2. Dr. Rodolfo S. Cornejo

3. •Rodolfo Cornejo is the only
Filipino composer with two
Doctoral degrees in music.
•He finished Doctor of Philosophy
Major in Composition from
Neotarian College Kansas in 1947
and Doctor of Music Degree
honoris causa from Chicago
College in 1954.

4. •He is noted for his extraordinary
ability to do impromptu classical
improvisation.
•He is considered as child prodigy.
•He became the organist at the
Pasay Catholic Church at the age
of 8.
•He wrote his 1st composition at
the age of 10 entitled “Glissando
Waltz”.

5. •He enrolled at the University of
the Philippines, Conservatory of
Music at the age of 14 while he
was still in high school.
•He was mentored by Francisco
Santiago and Nicanor Abelardo.
•By the age of 16, he had 26
compositions published by the
United Publishing Company, Inc.

6. •In 1950, he graduated in UP and
was offered a teaching position
by then UP President Rafael
Palma.
•Some of the well-known
musicians today like Lucio San
Pedro, Felipe de Leon, Candida
Bautista and Flora Zarco studied
under him in UP.

music industry call him was born on
May 4, 1954.
•He is the son of soprano Celerina
Pujante and Alberto Cayabyab.
•He is married to Emmy Punsalan, also
a music graduate.
•He is one of the most popular and
prolific composers in the Philippines.

10. •He initially took Business
Administration at UP but because
of the scholarship given to him by
Senator Laurel, he was able to
finish a degree in music at the
University of the Philippines,
College of Music.

11. •He is an accomplished composer.
•He has written works for ballet,
theater musicals, choral pieces,
masses and pop songs.
•He also did commissioned works
for commercial jingles and movies.
•He wrote many award-winning
theater musicals like Noli Me
Tangere, El Filibusterismo and
Magnificat.

12. •Aside from being a composer, he
also managed groups like Smokey
Mountain, 14 K and the RCS
(Ryan Cayabyab Singers).
•He also hosted musical shows
like Ryan Ryan Musikahan.
•One of the most notable
contribution of Cayabyab is the
establishment of a music school.

in the reality talent shows like
Pinoy Dream Academy and Pinoy
Idol.
•He had performed in front of
royalties and presidents of the

16. •Hilarion F. Rubio 's name was
closely identified with the
position of orchestra conductor
for opera presentations and
with ballet and dance recitals.
• He also did music for movies.

17. •He was born in Bacoor, Cavite on
21 October 1902. He got
interested in music from his uncle
who was playing in Bacoor Band.
•His first music lessons was with
Father Amando Buencamino.
•Buencamino taught him the
solfeggio and the musical
intruments.

18. •He was accepted as a member of
the Bacoor Band as a clarinest at
the age of eight. At about this
time, he made his first
composition "Unang Katas" which
was for the band.

19. •During his high school years at
the North High School (now
Arellano High School), he
participated at various movie-
house bands in orchestras.

20. •He was also a member of Lyric
Theater Orchestra, Trozo Band
in Benavides Street, and the
Band Moderna in Tondo. By the
time he graduated high school,
he founded the Anak Zapote
Band.

21. •He was a bandleader and
captain of ROTC Band of UP
Conservatory of Music until the
time he graduated in 1933.
•He also played the tympani and
at times the violin for the UP
Junior Symphony Orchestra.

the Manila Music School and
choral conductor of the
"Islanders" and was appointed
as an instructor at UP in 1936.

23. •At one time, he was also a faculty
member at the Buencamino Music
Academy, La Concordia College,
College of the Holy Spirit, Santa
Isabel College, Laperal Music
Academy, Manila Music School, St.
Theresa's College, and theValencia
Academy of Music. He also became
the director of the Centro University
of Music in 1944-1945.

could not teach in school, he
continued teaching through
private lessons, composed,
arranged, and conducted various
bands, and choruses. After the
war, he taught and conducted the
Municipal Symphony Orchestra.

26. Lucio San Pedro

27. •Lucio D. San Pedro was born on
February 11, 1913 –and died on
March 31, 2002.
•He was a Filipino composer and
teacher who was proclaimed
National Artist of the
Philippines for Music in 1991

28. •San Pedro came from a family with
musical roots and he began his
career early.
•When he was still in his late teens,
he succeeded his deceased
grandfather as the local church
organist.
•By then, he had already composed
songs, hymns and two complete
masses for voices and orchestra.

29. •After studying with several
prominent musicians in the
Philippines, he took advanced
composition training with
Bernard Wagenaar of the
Netherlands.
•He also studied harmony and
orchestration under Vittorio
Giannini and took classes at
Juilliard in 1947.

30. •His other vocation was teaching. He
has taught at the Ateneo de Manila
University, virtually all the major
music conservatories in Manila and
at the College of Music of the
University of the Philippines,
Diliman, where he retired as a full
professor in 1978..

31. •He later received the title
Professor Emeritus from the
University in 1979.[citation needed] He
also became a faculty member of
the Centro Escolar University
Conservatory of Music in Manila.
•On May 9, 1991, President
Corazon C. Aquino proclaimed San
Pedro a National Artist of the
Philippines for Music.

32. •an Pedro died of cardiac arrest on
March 31, 2002 in Angono, Rizal, at
the age of 89. Many peers from the
Order of National Artists attended
his tribute at the Tanghalang
Pambansa, including: Napoleón
Abueva, Daisy Avellana, Leonor
Gokingco, Nick Joaquín, Arturo Luz,
José Maceda, and Andrea
Veneración. He is buried in his
hometown of Angono, Rizal.
