1. Note-taking: The Trash and Treasure Method What is the best way to collect information from your sources?

2. Step 1 - Identify keywords Highlight the keywords in your questions and generate a list of related words. BRAINSTORM! USE A THESAURUS!

3. To Scan: Quickly look over the material and try to pick out one specific point or keyword Use the control+F keys to FIND important keywords within your articles Step 2 - Skim & Scan!!

5. Now that you’ve found what you’ve been looking for… It’s time to USE the INFORMATION!

6. You will need to take good notes to use in writing your paper! There are three steps in note taking… 1. Finding Keywords 2. Skimming and Scanning 3. Extracting the information and adding your own thoughts

9. Summarize Read a large section for overall meaning and put it into one or two sentences. Remember to record the citation information. You will need this for your bibliography page.

10. Paraphrase Put large amounts of information into your own words. This is good for supporting information, biographical information, predictions, hypothesis, and drawing conclusions Remember to record the citation information. You will need this for your bibliography page.
