Alfred Wainwright was a renowned British cartographer, author and illustrator best known for his seven-volume Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells published between 1955-1966. The guides detailed walking routes across the Lake District and included hand-drawn maps and illustrations. Wainwright also devised long distance trails including the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast Walk. He spent his career meticulously mapping the Lake District and producing guides in a unique hand-drawn style that captured the essence of the landscape. Wainwright's guides are still widely used today and he is credited with inspiring many to explore and appreciate the British countryside.
