3. global trends
• authentic and contextualised learning
• personalised, self-organised, self-directed
• social learning
• flexible pedagogies
• lifelong and lifewide learning
• connected, collaborative, open
• recognising finally the positive impact of human
interaction for learning
The future of education (2030 vision):
“The overall vision is that personalisation, collaboration and informalisation
(informal learning) will be at the core of learning in the future. “
(Redecker, 2014, 12)
4. What did we want to explore...
Can we create an open
learning ecology that enables
learners to learn with and
from each other in a
supportive environment
using authentic and inquiry-
based pedagogical models?
How can we support open
learners effectively to create
the foundations of a vibrant
learning community?
19. What next?
• Evaluate this experiment (+learning analytics data)
• Open facilitators’ experiences research project (work-in-
progress)
• Sheffield Hallam University plans to offer BYOD4L in the
near future (June 2014)
• Smart Learning Book project (MELSIG)
• Organising a cross-institutional BYOD4L event later in the
year with colleagues in NZ (a possibility at the moment)
• FLEX pilot using open badges at MMU
• Further collaborative projects are discussed between MMU
and SHU
• We are also open to other ideas and collaborations ;)
