TEACHING CHALLENGES
Challenges
• 2004 to 2014 – Student enrolment increased by 70% (1.2million)
- Quantity vs Quality, are the students really competent?
• Huge number of students per classroom (100?)
• Assessment by 8 generic skills
– social, communication, ethics, problem solving, entrepreneurship,
lifelong learning
• Lecturers workload – Administration, Research, Consultancy,
Awards, Community?
OUR TARGET
Efficient teacher:
Help teacher to efficiently
facilitate learner’s engagement
rather than giving repetitive
lectures/materials
Effective learner:
Help student to learn effectively
at anytime / anywhere without
time/learning space limitation

BLENDED LEARNING IMPLEMENTATION
To achieve MOD BLENDED, at least 30% of F2F delivery is ONLINE.
e.g. Total F2F hours is 42 for 3 credit course. 30% of 42 hours is 13 hours or 4 weeks.

• Lecturers don’t create any learning activities
• Lecturers don’t monitor/participate in the learning
activities (no feedback / response on student’s

• Student does not learn / participate
BLENDED LEARNING
(GOOD PRACTICES)
• GUIDED LEARNING (ONLINE) – learning activity is done online, no
need to go onsite/face to face. Can be done up to 10 weeks.
• 1 information, 7 resources, 3 activities, 2 assessment may not be
adequate for an effective learning.
• Must have CONTENT + ACTIVITY + ASSESSMENT for each ONLINE
class
• Attendance must be reported based on student’s engagement
• Should have F2F attendance proof for at least 4 weeks (for 3 credit).
This can be taken from Course Completion report of KeLIP
OFFICIAL E-LEARNING PLATFORM LMS
Learning Management System
E-Learning can be done in many platforms such as facebook, padlet, blog, etc. However, to ease monitoring and reporting of Blended Learning implementation, it is a advisable for us
to use official University e-learning platform.

Challenges • 2004 to 2014 – Student enrolment increased by 70% (1.2million) - Quantity vs Quality, are the students really competent? • Huge number of students per classroom (100?) • Assessment by 8 generic skills – social, communication, ethics, problem solving, entrepreneurship, lifelong learning • Lecturers workload – Administration, Research, Consultancy, Awards, Community?

  • 6. OUR TARGET Efficient teacher: Help teacher to efficiently facilitate learner’s engagement rather than giving repetitive lectures/materials Effective learner: Help student to learn effectively at anytime / anywhere without time/learning space limitation

  • 24. BLENDED LEARNING IMPLEMENTATION To achieve MOD BLENDED, at least 30% of F2F delivery is ONLINE. e.g. Total F2F hours is 42 for 3 credit course. 30% of 42 hours is 13 hours or 4 weeks. ITEMS HOUR COUNT TOTAL Course Information 0.5 x 1 = 0.5 Resources (slides/notes/url/video) Guideline: 20 pages notes | 10minutes video 1 x 7 = 7 Activity (forum/padlet/survey) 1.5 x 3 = 4.5 Assessment (quiz/assignment) Guideline : 20 True/False/MCQ 0.5 x 2 = 1 TOTAL 13 The online hour guideline by MEIPTA, DEPAN and e-LEARNING GUIDELINE KPM
  • 25. BLENDED LEARNING CURRENT PRACTICE • BLENDED IS JUST FOR KPI • SUPPORTIVE BLENDED LEARNING ARE USED (1732 formula) • BLENDED LEARNING TO REPLACE FACE TO FACE?
  • 26. BLENDED LEARNING AS REPLACEMENT (THE CHALLENGES) • Lecturers don’t create any learning activities • Lecturers don’t monitor/participate in the learning activities (no feedback / response on student’s discussion) • Student does not learn / participate
  • 27. BLENDED LEARNING (GOOD PRACTICES) • GUIDED LEARNING (ONLINE) – learning activity is done online, no need to go onsite/face to face. Can be done up to 10 weeks. • 1 information, 7 resources, 3 activities, 2 assessment may not be adequate for an effective learning. • Must have CONTENT + ACTIVITY + ASSESSMENT for each ONLINE class • Attendance must be reported based on student’s engagement • Should have F2F attendance proof for at least 4 weeks (for 3 credit). This can be taken from Course Completion report of KeLIP
  • 28. OFFICIAL E-LEARNING PLATFORM LMS Learning Management System E-Learning can be done in many platforms such as facebook, padlet, blog, etc. However, to ease monitoring and reporting of Blended Learning implementation, it is a advisable for us to use official University e-learning platform. + WEEKLY OUTLINE + CONTENT Youtube / Pdf / Slides + ACTIVITY Forum + ASSESSMENT Quiz GUIDEDLEARNING
