2. INTRODUCTION
• It has been built with an aim to promote tourism, culture
and craft creation all under one roof, the urban-haat
concept is actually a centrally sponsored scheme that was
taken into consideration in 2008-09 fiscal year.
• The other cities like Santiniketan, Kolkata and Siliguri are
also in the pipeline to be projected as the prime four urban-
haats of the state.
• Calculating the initial capital cost of around Rs 3 crore for
each of the urban Hatt, (out of which 70 per cent was
supposed by the center) Durgapur-Haat similar to Delhi-
haat.
• The Durgapur-haat provideS direct marketing facilities to
artisans and weavers, of course by eliminating middlemen.
• Along with the haat, there are several others joints in it like
amusement park and food joints under the same campus.
• The haat will also be equipped with an open-air theatre,
outdoor stalls, exhibitions stalls, water body with fountain,
underground reservoir, souvenir shops, paved spaces, car
parking meant for the artisans and art-lovers of Durgapur.
16. • The architect has played a lot with the
levels in the haat. Hence this has made
the circulation very interesting.
• The flooring is of interlocking tiles of
different colors.
20. • The parking can accumulate upto 96 cars.
• The parking covers the perimeter of the
haat.
• Since the haat is accessible from all the
four sides. Such a parking style is feasible.
• 6.4m wide road is available next to the
parking. And the cars are parked at 45’.
