INTERPRETER – The project
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020
research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 864360
The overall objective of INTERPRETER is:
• To develop a modular grid management solution, a set of interoperable off-line
and on-line software tools for optimized design, planning, operation and
maintenance of the electricity grid, with a special focus on distribution network. It
will be offered to grid operators through an open-source software platform.
The overall solution and each of its modules will be:
• developed, tested and validated in close collaboration with 2 DSOs and partners
from 6 different EU countries, providing a set of representative use cases, thus
ensuring the replicability and uptake of INTERPRETER solution across Europe.

 To design a Common Architecture that will connect actors and markets in a
transparent, non-discriminatory manner
 To drive collaboration in the procurement of grid services by TSOs and DSOs,
and to create strong incentives to connected customers
 To integrate small scale and large-scale assets to increase market liquidity for
grid services and facilitate scaling up of new services
 To define and demonstrate standardised products, key parameters, and the
activation and settlement process for energy services
 To promote state-of-the-art digital technologies in order to engage end-users
into the next generation electricity market transactions

The overarching objective of the ATTEST
project is to develop and operationalize a
modular open source toolbox comprising
a suite of innovative tools to support TSOs /
DSOs operating, maintaining and planning
the energy systems of 2030 and beyond in
an optimized and coordinated manner.

Demo site in Croatia
• The ICT platform and a selection of tools from the open source toolbox will be
validated in the single demonstrator of the project in Croatia
• The demo site includes 3 different zones of the electrical system of Croatia:
o Zagreb demo (focusing on demand response and flexibility from buildings)
o Koprivnica demo (focusing on network operation and flexibility from DSO assets)
o Northwestern Croatia demo (focusing on network planning /expansion)

• Zagreb demo includes two buildings that are able to provide flexibility at MV level
o FER Skyscraper and HEP Headquarters
• Characteristics:
o Both have their own 10/0,4 kV transformer substations equipped with advanced meters;
o Both have a dedicated multi energy management system to control their flexibility based
on batteries, PV systems, controllable heating / cooling zones…
• These assets provide a level of demand response with meaningful effects to the
DSO and, with a degree of upscaling, to the TSO
• Both HOPS (TSO) and HEP ODS (DSO) will schedule their reserves in the day-
ahead having in mind the actual needs for reserves

The overall objective of INTERPRETER is: • To develop a modular grid management solution, a set of interoperable off-line and on-line software tools for optimized design, planning, operation and maintenance of the electricity grid, with a special focus on distribution network. It will be offered to grid operators through an open-source software platform. The overall solution and each of its modules will be: • developed, tested and validated in close collaboration with 2 DSOs and partners from 6 different EU countries, providing a set of representative use cases, thus ensuring the replicability and uptake of INTERPRETER solution across Europe. 18 Objectives and approach

  • 42. 42 Demo site in Croatia • The ICT platform and a selection of tools from the open source toolbox will be validated in the single demonstrator of the project in Croatia • The demo site includes 3 different zones of the electrical system of Croatia: o Zagreb demo (focusing on demand response and flexibility from buildings) o Koprivnica demo (focusing on network operation and flexibility from DSO assets) o Northwestern Croatia demo (focusing on network planning /expansion)

  • 44. 44 Demo site in Croatia • Zagreb demo includes two buildings that are able to provide flexibility at MV level o FER Skyscraper and HEP Headquarters • Characteristics: o Both have their own 10/0,4 kV transformer substations equipped with advanced meters; o Both have a dedicated multi energy management system to control their flexibility based on batteries, PV systems, controllable heating / cooling zones… • These assets provide a level of demand response with meaningful effects to the DSO and, with a degree of upscaling, to the TSO • Both HOPS (TSO) and HEP ODS (DSO) will schedule their reserves in the day- ahead having in mind the actual needs for reserves
