- 2. 1947-1957 Liaqat visited soviet union in 1949 which displeased USA who then invited Pakistan. Liaqat visited USA in 1950 on their invitation. In 1953, food crisis aid Pakistan and USA signed Mutual Defense Assistance agreement in May 1954. In the same year, Americans decided that Pakistan, Turkey and Iran could be the ideal countries to counter the growth of soviet influence. In 1954,Seato was formed but treaty was not ratified until 1955. In 1955,Baghdad Pact was established.
- 3. 1957-1977 In 1962,China-India war was fought.US gave aid to India without consulting Pakistan. In the same year Ayub Khan visited China which affected the relations between Pak-USA In 1965,He visited Soviet Union which displeased USA. In 1971,USA did not help Pakistan in the civil war. In 1971,Mililtary control under Zia in Pakistan displeased USA.
- 4. 1977-99 In November 1979,US embassy in Pakistan was burned down and Zia was blamed for this act by the US. In 1988,USSR and Afghanistan signed a treaty ending the war. This reduced the aid coming in from the US to Pakistan. In1980,USA tried to sign nuclear non proliferation treaty with Pakistan so Pakistan stops building up nuclear bombs.
