2. Gerund is a verb ending in -ing that functions as a noun. Gerunds
have the same form as theParticiples , they both end in -ing, but
different functions. For Participles we will discuss separately.
Formula of Gerund is :
VERB 1 + ING
Example :
swimming, shopping, talking, playing, sleeping, eating, etc.
3. Below we discuss the function of the
gerund.
The thing to remember is Gerunds considered as
Singular and said instead was "it".
1. As the subject sentence
If we want to put Verbs in the beginning of the
sentence, then we have to turn it into a V-ing.
Example:
Smoking is bad for your health.
4. 2. As Object Sentence
When functioning as Object Verb phrase, then use
also the V-ing (Gerunds).
Example:
He loves teaching very much.
3. As a Subjective Complement
If there is a verb that functions as a complement to
the basic sentence, then it should also be formed
in V-ing. This form is usually after the "to be".
Example:
My hobby is swimming .

made in the form of V-ing (Gerunds).
Example:

5. After Possessive adjectives
If you want to put a verb after the word belongs to such

form of Gerunds.

Gerunds.

Admit, discuss, enjoy, forget, remember, finish, stop, avoid,
etc.
Example:
My father enjoy swimming very much.
10. As Complementary Idiom
If there is a verb that follows idioms below, it should also be
in the form of Gerunds.
Cant't help, feel like, can not stand, look like, do not mind, it's
wort, it's no good, it's no use, etc.
Example:
I think it's no use trying it again.
