Power BI is a powerful data visualization and reporting tool that allows nonprofits to leverage their data. The webinar provided an overview of Power BI and how nonprofits can get started using it. Attendees learned about Power BI licensing, how to connect data sources, and tips for creating basic visualizations and reports. Nonprofits can use Power BI to validate and analyze data, answer questions, identify trends, drive cultural change, and better communicate with constituents.

• Use an Excel file for yourfirst report
Excel is an easy connector and the data table in Power BI looks similar to an Excel sheet. This
is a good transition into the platform
• Pick a dataset your familiarwith
Knowing what’s included in the data and being able to identify why certain visualizations
look the way they do will help in learning about slicers and settings
• Start in the desktop application
It’s easier to connect to and manipulate data
• Publish reports to the web
When getting started, publish to ‘My Workspace’ to access reports from anywhere
• Create Workspaces to share reports with other users
This requires a Pro license and makes it easier for everyone to organize and access reports
