Data compiled from the excellent Pew Internet & American Life Project Surveys since 2005 showing trends in adoption of the Internet, social networking services, and more recently, Twitter. Data is adjusted for the entire population (not just internet users), to give a more realistic picture from a health care perspective
2. How&is&this&data&adusted?
! Pew Internet reports the data as “% internet users who have ever
used social networking sites or Twitter”
! For a health care audience, it is more relevant to report “% adults who
have ever used social networking sites or Twitter”
! Formula used in these charts is
– % social network users x % internet users for the year studied
! This yields lower adoption %, but ones that are reflective of the general
population, which is who health care serves
