APIs for DevOps Teams, Creating Open Culture Bubbles Breakout D Getting technology choices right is less than half the battle, organisational change and technology delivery can be far more disruptive and difficult to deliver. Jeremy is a passionate believer in being default to open, whether that applies to code or culture. In his presentation Jeremy discusses how high performing teams are the result of the context they operate in and by setting up the right open structures and environment you will accelerate you app development and DevOps experience. So the big question is: Can you bring the Open Organisation to your DevOps team and create APIs with the rest of the organisation?

  9. A great space is open and customisable. It can change with the needs of the team. Add moveable walls, Bring TVs on Wheels and Radiate all the things With information on show, people can’t avoid it. No searching in a tool to dig out the latest build stat; it’s there infront of you and for all to see. Access to Product owner is easy; he’s there on the table beside you. Volvo were able to practice Continuous Delivery

  11. Codifying behaviors with a social contract Mob programming and pairing Listening to each other Being accountable
  12. Codify how the team wants to work together Promote autonomy and self governance In this picture you can see The Team choosing how they will work together Evolve it; It’s OK to be wrong story to correct behaviours…… Honor it and keep teh team honest to abiding by it.
  13. New team members, was their first day of work! Balance the team; not all rockstars but some capacity to mentor and bring up new team members allows groups to scale organically Pair on specific items to encourage and raise the bar for jr team members (pic 1) Mob program on new things - pact in picture 2 No more black magic and no more heroes!
  14. Build a cross functional team by rotating the roles; not everyone wants to do the grunt work all the time so it’s important to share the responsibility. Akshat and Gustaf doing the Selenium testing that had followed on for a sprint or two. Gustaf taking one for the team by rolling up his sleeves to help Akshat across the line. Take a hit for the team, knowing they’d take one for you

Product owner (Jonas) listened to his team and responded accordingly He would reject business features to grow the teams capability, reinvesting time in the team getting things done which made them better in the long run Strong POs insulate the team from toxic people & remove them. Protecting the team
  16. Continuous inspection / retros Bring and Ban board Great teams want to get better FIKA from their retro board! Introduce more things to the social contract eg Introduce process only when needed ie sizing Laders etc
  17. Awesome teams invite new team members in, they are not forced into accepting new people who could shift or disrupt their dynamic
  18. Recordable buttons Word of the day Social playlists Eating together, looking for opportunities to share and get to know one another outside of work context Socialising together (being inclusive, not always at the bar!) Nonsense Philips hue, games etc
  19. Socialise together but remember to do it inclusively. Bowling, escape rooms, etc Try to mix things up from evenings out to early breakfasts to accomodate peoples needs
  20. Have lunch together Celebrate holidays together Include everyone (Gluten Free Cinamon buns)
  21. Silly games, caption competition, jokes and fun can increase team morale and spirit. Gustaf and his hatred of JavaScript came to the fore in the Caption Competition Allow sufficient time to the team to gel Higher performing teams are happier at their jobs
