Process Steps for China/Taiwan Webquest

The government of China insists that Taiwan is not an independent country and that it is a
territory of China. The current government of Taiwan does not agree and does not wish to be
reunited.

Step 1: Discuss this issue with teacher and classmates; use this background information to get
their reactions and opinions to develop a vocabulary for talking about this issue.

Step 2: Research at least two-three different interpretations before deciding on a position to
take.

Step 3: Go through the resources and begin your research. Refer to the chart of questions to
answer and ideas to keep in mind while researching. Remember to keep track of your sources
for documentation later.

Step 4: Choose the interpretation that seems the strongest to you.

Step 5: Imagine you are presenting your paper to the members of the United Nations General
Assembly and your teacher will be acting as a UN member. After your teacher reads your
paper he/she will vote on the issue of quot;China and Taiwan: One Country or Twoquot; based on how
well your paper has been written.

Step 6: You should come up with a specific, well-organized thesis at this time. You can scaffold
this process by using online thesis builder which creates a workable persuasive thesis and
outline. You should acknowledge (and refute) your opposition. You must support your
opinions and statements from the research. Research must be cited.

Step 7: Remember your final product is a persuasive essay of 2-3 pages. The final draft must be
a professional-looking, properly formatted product.
