FOUR
STAGES
OF MIST
Business Plan Competition that solicits ideas from companies
with proven business models, entrepreneurs with innovative
ideas, and tourism technology startups with specific
applications for the Mekong Region
(February-March 2017)
Bootcamps in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam where
competition finalists can learn from experts, receive coaching,
connect with networks in the region, and their ideas from plan
to startup.
(April, May and October 2017)
Showcases at the Mekong Tourism Forum (Luang Prabang,
Laos) and APEC Summit (Danang, Vietnam) where select
finalists will be invited to present their plans to international
investors and potential partners.
(June and November 2017)
Prizes and Ongoing Support Three projects will win $10,000
seed capital to finance their project. In addition, the organizers
will pledge ongoing support to all finalists to clear both
regulatory and business obstacles, win acceptance into
incubator and accelerator programs, and secure investment.

5. Nearly half of the world’s more than one billion international
tourist arrivals are to emerging economies like the Mekong
region. Through 2030, their tourism industries are expected
to grow at double the average pace of tourism in advanced
countries.
The Mekong region has experienced the fastest inbound
tourism growth of any subregion in Asia, with tourist arrivals
growing 190 percent over the last decade. The region is
well positioned to sustain this rapid growth thanks to its
proximity to the growing outbound markets of India and
China.
Tourism generates significant economic opportunity and
jobs, so Mekong region governments are investing by
easing visa requirements, developing new land and sea
connections have been developed, and linking more
primary and secondary cities by air.
