The JAD process involves collaboration between various participants in software development. JAD sessions are meetings where participants exchange requirements and specifications to understand the SDLC. JAD participants include project managers, end users, and IT specialists. The JAD method principles are that those working on a project have the best understanding, IT and business specialists provide different expertise, and systems and processes are interdependent. Advantages of JAD include effective participation, understanding objectives, shorter completion times, and commitment to success.
2. The JAD Process
• The JAD process is an effective agile
development method, which involves the
contribution of various participants in the
software development process.
3. JAD Sessions
• JAD sessions are meetings where participants
exchange requirements and specifications
information to better understand SDLC.
• According to a recent study, JAD sessions are re-
engineering business research processes to
change the way they operate, and the products
they provide (Jenneriah, 2008).
4. JAD Participants
JAD participants include and are not limited to:
• Project Sponsor- Sr. Project Manager or VP
• Project Leader- Project Manager
• Group leaders- Area Supervisors
• JAD team members- IT and development specialist,
end users, clients, observers, and record keepers.
5. JAD Process Philosophy
The university of Texas resource center (2008) helps to sum up
four principles of the JAD method:
• People who work on a project have the best
understanding.
• People who are trained in IT understand expertise of
specific technologies.
• Information systems and business process are
interdependent processes. People who work in both
areas are valuable in understanding the system as a
whole.
• Best systems are developed when everyone in a
group collaborates on a project equally.
(Utexas.edu, 2008)
6. Advantages
• Allows for effective participation among team
members.
• Better understanding of project objectives.
• Shorter project completion times.
• Commitment to the success of project
deliverables.
7. Concluding
In conclusion the JAD application process
could prove beneficial in the SDLC. Participants
are able to communicate requirements, and
understand work specifications needed for
successful project completion. The advantages of
JAD enables team members to approach
development in iteration on tailored projects and
ongoing developments.
