1. LA LECHERA

2. Hace mucho tiempo, en una granja de vacas, vivía una niña con su familia.
A long time ago, a girl and her family lived on a dairy farm.
Cada día, una vez ordeñadas las vacas, la niña se encargaba de llevar la leche a
la ciudad para venderla.
The girl milked the cows every day. Then she took the milk to the city to sell
it.
3. Mientras iba caminando, una sola idea le rondaba la cabeza: “Venderé la leche
y, con el dinero que me den, compraré…
On her way to the city, she thought, “I’ll sell the milk. With the money I get,
I’ll buy…
compraré una gallina clueca que ponga muchos huevos. Así, tendré polluelos”,
se decía muy contenta.
… a hen! It will lay eggs. Then I’ll have chicks!”
4. “Los pollitos crecerán; los venderé y con el dinero que me den, compraré un
cerdo”.
The chicks will grow. I’ll sell them. With the money I get, I’ll buy a pig!
Y la pequeña lechera continuaba su camino, sueña que te sueña con todo lo
que ganaría con la leche.
The milkmaid dreamed of all the money she would make.
5. “Cuando el cerdito esté bien gordo, lo venderé y compraré un ternero”, pensaba.
When the pig is fat, I’ll sell it. With the money I get, I’ll buy a calf!” she
thought.
6. Y tan emocionada estaba que, imaginando al ternerillo saltar, comenzó a
saltar ella misma.
The milkmaid imagined a little calf jumping up and down. She was so
exacited. Se started to jump up and down, too!
Pero tanto y tanto saltó, que cuando estaba a punto de llegar, tropezó y …
She jumped so high! Then she tripped.
7. ¡Catapum! Derramó la leche. En un abrir y cerrar de ojos, ni ternero, ni cerdito,
ni pollitos, ni gallina, ni tan siquiera leche.
Boom! The milk spilled. Now there would be no calf, no pigs, no chicks,
and no hen.
8. ¡Pobre lechera! Tanto soñar con lo que conseguiría que volvió a casa con tan
solo las rodillas lastimadas y lágrimas en los ojos.
Poor milkmaid! She walked home. All she had left were bruises on her
knees and tears in her eyes.
