1) Students will work in groups of 3 to create a 3D model of either a plant or animal cell out of materials of their choosing.
2) Each group must submit their 3D cell model, a key labeling the organelles and their functions, a computer drawing of the cell created in Microsoft Paint by each student, and an essay answering one of three topics written by each student.
3) Projects are due on April 28th, when groups will do an oral presentation and be graded based on presentation, preparation, and the quality of their submitted materials.
1. Objective: The learner will create a 3D cell & label organelles, explain the
functions of the organelles for either a plant or animal cell and research &
write about an essay topic. The learner will create a drawing of the cell by
using Microsoft Paint program on the computer.
Cell Project & Report
1. Students will form groups of 3 students who will decide on which cell
to create (plant or animal) and of what materials.
2. Each group will submit: a 3D model, a key of the organelles
labeled & a report that includes: cover page with members’
names, a table of contents, definitions & functions of
organelles, a computer drawing (1 per student) created in
Poynton’s class & each member will answer one of the three
essay topics.
*ESSAY TOPICS:
1. Describe a food chain & use proper terminology
2. Compare & contrast animal and plant cells (can be in a chart)
3. Explain the pros and cons genetically modified crops and the
effects on humans and animals.
3. The group will hand in a sheet of paper with the group members’
names, cell type, materials, and which person is answering which
essay question.
4. Groups will orally present their cell to the class.
