Objectives
and approach
Unity commissioned Forrester Consulting
to explore applications of real-time 3D
outside of the gaming sector, specifically
with regards to industrial use cases.
We conducted a research study to test the following
hypothesis:
Extended reality technologies, like 3D visualization, AR, and VR,
provide substantial opportunities for innovation and engineering
leaders who are tasked with applying technology to help solve
business problems. The technology offers an intriguing way to
immerse customers and employees in a digital experience. Outside
of the gaming industry, most business decision makers do not fully
understand the use cases or what the technology is. This study will
identify awareness and adoption levels, perceptions, barriers, and
investment plans regarding extended reality among global
companies of all sizes across auto, manufacturing, energy, AEC,
and consumer products. We surveyed the following audience to
test this hypothesis:
Respondent sample size and overview:
358 Decision makers (sr. manager – SVP) responsible for
engineering, innovation, design, R&D and operations. All
respondents must have responsibility for creating 3D content (or
overseeing that content creation) for their company and/or
knowledge of the 3D technology landscape.

  • 25. 25 Objectives and approach Unity commissioned Forrester Consulting to explore applications of real-time 3D outside of the gaming sector, specifically with regards to industrial use cases. We conducted a research study to test the following hypothesis: Extended reality technologies, like 3D visualization, AR, and VR, provide substantial opportunities for innovation and engineering leaders who are tasked with applying technology to help solve business problems. The technology offers an intriguing way to immerse customers and employees in a digital experience. Outside of the gaming industry, most business decision makers do not fully understand the use cases or what the technology is. This study will identify awareness and adoption levels, perceptions, barriers, and investment plans regarding extended reality among global companies of all sizes across auto, manufacturing, energy, AEC, and consumer products. We surveyed the following audience to test this hypothesis: Respondent sample size and overview: 358 Decision makers (sr. manager – SVP) responsible for engineering, innovation, design, R&D and operations. All respondents must have responsibility for creating 3D content (or overseeing that content creation) for their company and/or knowledge of the 3D technology landscape. Company overview: Min 20 employees, within Auto, Consumer Products, Manufacturing, Architecture, Energy, and Engineering industries globally.
