Autodesk and Unity announced a collaboration last year to streamline workflows and enable seamless development across the AEC design, build and operate lifecycles. This fall, Unity Reflect launches, giving designers, architects, and engineers the ability to seamlessly federate their Revit models for real-time 3D. Andrew Sullivan - Digital Delivery Manager, SHoP Architects will provide an overview of how they are using the product to enable real-time decision making, reduce the time between revisions and meetings, and ultimately improve design review and construction planning processes. I gave this talk at the FOSS4G Buenos Aires 2021. mago3D(https://github.com/Gaia3D/mago3djs) is a relatively new project first released in July 2017. The ultimate goal of mago3D project is developing an open source based digital twin platform that can replicate and simulate the real world objects, processes, and phenomena on web environment. mago3D is on its way to achieve this goal now. As a Digital Twin platform, it can integrate, manage, and visualize various kinds of data formats such as CityGML, IndoorGML, LAS, IFC, 3DS, and other popular GIS formats. It utilizes many open source projects as a baseline framework. mago3D has been used in various industry sectors including ship building, urban design & management, indoor data management, and national defense. In this talk, I showcased several real projects that employed the mago3D and shared recent improvements and new features of mago3D.

With urban populations expected to double by 2050, an increasingly urgent need exists for implementing sustainable urban design and infrastructure rehabilitation initiatives. Digital 3D models of our urban infrastructure form part of the solution as engineers, architects and geospatial professionals collaborate and share information across the infrastructure lifecycle. This presentation explores the reasons behind developing such a model and examines the convergence of the information and technology needed to make it real such as Smart Infrastructure Modeling (SIM), CAD, GIS and BIM. Demonstrations and plenty of eye-candy will be used to highlight the benefits. The presentation concludes with an examination of today’s trends and future opportunities as they relate to the emerging digital cities phenomena.

BIM means a multitude of things to a myriad of stakeholders, companies, and geographical locations, based on multiple factors. However, from a holistic viewpoint, the meaning we append to and the expectations we have of BIM are not as important as the connection that BIM brings when properly deployed with cloud-based solutions; thus, filling so many inefficiency gaps. This is the era of Connected Construction and there has been an increased need for remote collaboration across every industry. Summer research in UOW is an opportunity for students in their third and fourth years to be exposed to the professional environment of technical research where they participate in exciting projects supervised by UOW leading professors in the fields. Augmented reality (AR) has been around for more than a decade, however, the implementation of AR in civil engineering is still an uncommon aspect. Realising the potential of visualising BIM data via AR technology, prof. Tim McCarthy, who has instructed several civil projects that involve the use of AR such as Solar Decathlon’s Desert Rose, proposed a new project in which we will be developing AR configurations displayed through mobile phone applications instead of HoloLens.
