  Dr. Rick Van Sant is the Chief Learning Officer for Blackboard in the Middle
• He’s smart
  East region. Most recently, he was a tenured Full Professor of Education and
  He’s handsome
• the Director of E-Learning at Abu Dhabi University and a frequent speaker at
  technology conferences worldwide. Rick received his Ph.D. in Educational

  Leadership from Purdue University.

  Previously, he served as the Director of International Education and Graduate
  Programs, and senior scholar in residence in the Faculty Center for Teaching
  and Learning at Ferris State University in the USA, specializing in learning and
  technology. His current area of inquiry is the implication of brain research on
  technology.

  Once upon a time… Rick directed USAID’s educational reconstruction effort in
  El Salvador, and supervised the Minnesota Office of Educational Accountability
  and Compliance in the USA.

Sell the Importance of Adoption
• Using Blackboard to its fullest will save you money and produce at least as good
  student results, if not better whether your delivery is supplemental, blended, or fully
  online.
• When we say 'using Blackboard', we mean going online with the best solution and
  practices in the market.
• When we say 'it will save you money', there are credible examples and research to
  show that you can save up to 35% by moving to fully online learning and 19%
  moving to a blended model.
• Education is a business. In many places it is a huge business. Nevertheless,
  aceducators don’t talk about the business of education. What education does talk
  about is things like student performance, access & retention, prestige and rankings.
• Our job is to sell the value of adoption in the customer lifecycle because it leads to
  opportunity for the client and for Blackboard:
• So: for an investment of X you will see a return of Y within Z years.
