 Ideas from participants of the study visit

 CLIL method
The new e-learning platform
www.openclass.com
HOW DOES IT WORK?
 The e-learning platform Open Class, is a networking

learning environment that works on two levels:
 it gives the teacher the possibility to integrate
educational classroom activity with learning activities
that exploit the educational potential of new
technologies;
 it offers students the opportunity to conduct studies
in a more exciting and interesting way, even
collaborating directly on the network.
THE BENEFITS
TEACHERS
Introduce strategies for individualized
learning.
Enhance and enrich the pathways created
during lectures.

Carry out group activities, through
didactic-oriented networking sheets.
Use an advanced method of learning
assessment.
THE BENEFITS
STUDENTS
Achievement in class group activities: participate
in an active way during learning assessment.

Revise or consolidate certain goals.

Meet and interact with classmates in networking
activities.
Interact in a more functional way with the
teacher.
WHY OPEN CLASS?
 Teaching takes place in an environment that reproduces the real

classroom through the network.
 The teacher can create, quickly and easily, a virtual classrom and

register their students, sending them nickname and password
generated by the system.
 Teachers can create, with parallel or vertical classes, inter-class groups

and at the same time, they can create or join a Learning Circle or an
inter-class formed with classes that may belong either to their scholl or
to other schools, even geographically distant, therefore creating an
educational project.
TOOLS
 „Programming area“, in which the teacher can create







schemas and documents (programming, report) using
predefined papers. The documents can be made at an
individual level or a collegial one, as class team.
Personal archives, personal drawer.
Class library or school library.
Gallery.
Notice-board, agenda, faq, chat, forum.
Internal messaging system.
THE EDUCATIONAL ITINERARY
 The Educational itinerary: is the file containing class

activities.
 It is a planned unit which can produce the form that best
matches the needs and educational objectives of the
teacher.
 Within this file, the teacher has the opportunity to build a
training schedule with its fundamental aspects: objectives,
study activities, test and evaluation.
 Content can be built from scratch by the teacher (with the
appropriate integrated multimedia software) or can be
constructed from existing activities already on file.
STUDY ACTIVITIES
 Individual study activities, carried out individually by







each student. Teachers can use didactic sheets for this
activity; they can be:
read-on cards with maps, grids, tables, etc.
gap fills, guided exercises in which students develop
interactive sections;
tests, and self assessment tests, structured or not;
self assessment questionnaires.
STUDY ACTIVITIES
 To carry out group activities, Open Class offers above

all a shared digital whiteboard, on which the members
of the group can develop shared files; it enables to
create an effective mode of collaboration and
cooperation.
 For the planning and implementation of the activity,
the teacher has a broad set of teaching cards:
 information sheets;
 interactive cards;

 creative cards;
 cards- orienting teamwork;
ASSESSMENT
 THE TEACHER CAN DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT:
 Structured assessment tests with automatic correction
with a wide range of items: true/false questions, single
or multiple choice, ordering, classification, serialization,
etc.
 Semi-structured tests;
 Open tests, such as short essays and compositions.
 After the completion of tests, the system gives the

teacher a summary and detailed analysis on the
performance of the test, as a class group as well as each
individual student.
GROUPS – LEARNING CIRCLE
 A special feature allows the teachers to establish different

types of student groups such as: level groups, recovery
groups, enhancement, etc.
 The creation of groups, of course, gives the teacherr the
ability to assign and reverse a specific group or specific
study activities, to be used collectively or individually.
 Teacher can create, with parralel or vertical classes, interclass groups to better finalize and/or differentiate their
teaching action.
 Each teacher can create or join a Learning Circle, or an
inter-class formed with classes that may belong either to
their school or to other schools, even geografically distant,
creating so an educational project.

CLIL
 http://www.clil-projects.eu/

 Videos to heighten attention and facilitate learning and CLIL teaching.

 In particular, the videos will help both the non-English teachers

who do not feel comfortable with their own language skills and
the English teachers who are not educated in subject matters
different from English.
 In any case videos may be a great visual help in
communicating contents that are rather difficult to understand if only
textually described.
 Subtitles will also help comprehension. The speaker in the videos is
usually a cartoon and this makes the Learning Object very agreeable to
students.
 Each specific topic is explained not only through videos but also
supported by other online activities like multiple-choice quizzes,
crossword puzzles and games.
Lingo education
 A program to help students with understanding words

and context in English text they read.
 It also comes with flashcards and exercises that they
have in Hungary.
 It is free to sign up as an individual until the end of
2013.
 One can contact Judith in case of interest
 judit.magyar@uni-corvinus.hu

 https://teacher.lingoeducation.com/class/details/70
Dropbox
 www.dropbox.com
 Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring your

photos, docs, and videos anywhere and share them
easily. Never email yourself a file again!
Suggestions
 Create a platform for PK ANJ (English language

department at GJAR)
 Use dropbox for sharing materials between teachers
 Use the platform to create a social network where
teachers and students can meet
Thank you for your attention!
