3. Ghat ki Guni Revitalisation:Tunnel & Redevelopment
•'Ghat ki Guni' is a 2 kms long stretch of
heritage structures running along either
sides of the road.
•Having architectural style and elements of
the Rajput and early Mughal Architecture.
• It is flanked by series of planned gardens,
haveli's with stepped terrace gardens and
temples.
•Over time, the route got converted into the
National Highway connecting the two major
cities of Jaipur and Agra.
4. Accidents
•Due to steep gradient
• sharp turning
•Narrow way
EffectCause
When accidents occurred all
vehicles of both sides had to take
round of 20 Kms instead of 1 km.
5. Effect on Heritage Buildings
•Pollution
•Accidents
Lack of tourist attraction
EffectCause
6. Effect on Development of East Jaipur
•Inconvenient approach
EffectCause
There were no such big private
/public housing or industry.
7. Ghat ki Guni Revitalisation:Tunnel & Redevelopment
•The Government, decided to work out a planning strategy to conserve, revitalize and
rehabilitate the stretch. And thus deciding to divert the national highway from it.
•This decision to divert the national highway away from it resulted in creation of the Ghat ki
Guni Tunnel Project through the Jhallana hills.
8. •Department of Urban Development & Housing, Government of
Rajasthan. (Developer)
•Development & Research Organization for Nature, Art and Heritage
(DRONAH) (Technical consultant for detailed project report)
•Amber Management & Development Authority (restoration
of the heritage structures) (Restoration of the heritage structures)
•Jaipur Development Authority (All Infrastucture work)
Invovled Organisations
9. •Instead of considering the conservation of heritage resources as an economic liability for
the local government, the project has successfully converted the heritage conservation
work into an opportunity for local economic development by adaptive reuse of the heritage
precincts for development of a cultural and heritage tourism hub.
Unique Thinking
10. •Clearence from forest department
The clearance from Forest Department for construction of the tunnel took considerable time
which delayed the project by approximately one year.
•Lack of fund
The most expensive part of project, Tunnel was given to Rohan Rajdeep Infra. , Pune on
DFBOT basis.
•Slum Clearence
A Housing project was initiated 6 kms away from the site, but very few dwellers took
compensation and all others were protesting. Finally govt. acquired the land by force.
•Shifting of temples and mazaars
Few protests happened, but the affected structures were related to both religions with
majority of there population.
