3. Barrier Free
Design for those with physical or other disabilities, involving the provision of
alternative means of access to steps (e.g. ramps and lifts (elevators) for those
with mobility problems). It is also called universal or barrier-free design.

4. Mobile homes
A mobile home (also trailer, trailer
home, static caravan, caravan) is
a prefabricated structure, built in a
factory on a permanently attached
chassis before being transported to site
(either by being towed or on a trailer).
Used as permanent homes, for holiday
or temporary accommodation, they are
left often permanently or semi-
permanently in one place, but can be
moved, and may be required to move
from time to time for legal reasons.

5. Congregate housing for assisted living
Congregate Housing is a program that provides housing, some meals,
and housekeeping services. Personal care services such as assistance
with bathing, dressing, eating, and getting around may also be
provided, or a resident may also contract with an outside agent to
provide personal care.

6. Disaster housing
Disaster temporary housing is defined as short term provisions
provided to disaster survivors for a specified period of time following
the occurrence of fire, flood, storm, or any other catastrophe.

7. Student Housing
Student Housing provides students with clean, safe, secure, and well-
maintained residences. A division of Residential & Dining Enterprises,

8. Public Housing
Public housing is a form of housing
tenure in which the property is
owned by a government authority,
which may be central or local. Social
housing is an umbrella term referring
to rental housing which may be
owned and managed by the state, by
non-profit organizations, or by a
combination of the two, usually with
the aim of providing affordable
housing. Social housing can also be
seen as a potential remedy
to housing inequality.

9. Guest House
A guest house (also guesthouse) is
a kind of lodging. In some parts of
the world a guest house is similar
to a hostel, bed and breakfast, or
inn where in other parts of the
world (such as for example the
Caribbean), guest houses are a
type of inexpensive hotel-like
lodging.

10. Homeless Shelter
Homeless shelters are temporary
residences of desperation
for homeless people which seek to
protect vulnerable populations from
the often devastating effects of
homelessness while simultaneously
reducing the environmental
impact on the community. They are
similar to but distinguishable from
various types of emergency shelters,
which are typically operated for
specific circumstances and
populations - fleeing natural
disasters or abusive social
circumstances.

11. Incremental Housing
Incremental housing, also know n
as Sites-and-Services , is a step-by-
step urban development process 8
for building housing communities .
Its fundamental approach is that
owner s control the expansion of
their housing based on their needs
and resources . It is an affordable
way to resettle households with
minimum housing and services and
provides flexibility in housing
decisions.
