• Choose mydesktop.highpoint.edu from the drop
down list
• Use your HPU username & password to sign in
• When prompted again select
mydesktop.highpoint.edu and click connect

6. Locating Kaltura
• Log into Blackboard
• Select your sandbox
course
• Go to the Course Tools
• Click on Media Gallery

• In your sandbox course you
will see a link called Survey
• Click on this link to fill out
our course evaluation

13. Log Out of the Computer
• When you have finished the survey you
are free to leave
• Make sure that you log out of your
computer
– Click start
– Log off

Kaltura is a video platform that allows instructors to manage media (primarily videos) within their Blackboard courses.
YouTube for HPU
Instructors will be able to easily record, clip, and publish high-quality video content for any device.
Kaltura will allow instructors to incorporate rich media into every part of the learning environment since it is integrated with Blackboard.
Built-in analytics and reporting provide instructors with the insight needed to successfully manage content through the Kaltura Media Gallery.
Allows you bypass the Blackboard upload size limit
Kaltura is working on adding quiz questions to videos that will feed right into Blackboard. When this feature is available we will let you know.
So let’s get started
We are going to go over the Kaltura interface and show you how to upload a file.
Go to the portal
Sign in
Select staff/faculty in the top right corner
Click on Blackboard Learn
Go into your sandbox course that we have created for you (username_sandbox)
To locate Kaltura (media gallery)
Under control panel click on course tools
Select media gallery
This is where all of your uploaded media is stored
You will see an empty media gallery
To upload content click on Add Media
This brings you to the full media gallery
This is where you will see all uploaded videos, even ones that have not been published yet
This is where you can add videos from your computer or record your screen
This is where you can add a YouTube video
This is where you can publish videos to use in your courses
On this page click add new
For today’s session we are going to upload a video that is already on your computer
This will bring you to a drop down list where you can upload media, record your screen or record yourself using your webcam
We aren’t going to go over this today, but we will cover this at a later date. Remember to check the portal regularly to stay up to date on our trainings.
For today’s session we are going to select Media upload
Choose a file from your computer (my videos, wildlife video)
Kaltura will upload the video to your media space
You can
Attach a file
Add captions
Allow the video to be downloaded by others or not
Trim the video
Change the starting and stopping points
Once the video is uploaded you can publish it so everyone in the course can see it
To add the video into a content section of your course
Click on the content link to the left
Hover over tools and select Kaltura media
Select the video we just uploaded
Give the video a name and provide a description If you would like
Click submit
You will see the embedded video in your course
To play the video simply click on the image of the video and it will open in a bigger window
