Race or religion does not matter. Treat
all neigbours in a fair and friendly
manner
3. Being a good neighbor
Prophet Muhammad (saww) has taught us that a
"neighbor" is not just the one next door but includes
all those up to forty houses in all directions -
effectively a whole neighborhood.
4. Importance of Neighbors
• A scholar was once having his dinner, when a
person came to his house and told him that your
teacher wants too see you immediately
• When the scholar went to the teacher, the teacher
was very sad and disappointed.
Teacher “Do you know your neighbor has no food to
eat?”
Scholar: I am sorry my master I did not know this
5. Importance of Neighbors
Teacher: “It is now a week that your neighbor and his family
are without wheat and rice. He was trying to buy some
dates from a shop on credit but the shopkeeper refused to
grant him any more credit. He returned home empty-
handed and the family is without any food.“
Scholar head hung in shame: “I am so sorry Master!”
Teacher: “7 days and you did not know? Now go take some
food and Sit with him to eat, so that he does not feel
ashamed. And take this money. Place it under his pillow or
carpet so that he is not embarrassed, and inform me when
this work is completed, for until then I shall not eat."
7. When you see your neighbors always smile and greet
them
When your neighbor is celebrating a birthday or birth congratulate
them and give a gift
Share some sweets or cakes e.g. when you
celebrate IDD.
If your neighbor goes for vacation, offer to keep
their mail . Or if they look worried then ask if you
can help
Do everything within the laws of Islam. Do not do anything
Haram or illegal
8. Prophet Muhammad said that Angel Jibrail
has stressed so much on the rights of a
neighbor
10. When people are sick, they are not
only physically sick, they are also
depressed and sad!!
11. We can make them happy and
cheerful just by visiting them and
make them forget their worries
12. When we visit a sick person, angels
accompany us and pray for us until
we return back to our home
13. The story of Prophet Muhammad(as) and
the old lady who threw trash on him
Every morning, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to pass by a
house of an old lady on his way to mosque
Every day this lady who did not believe he was a prophet,
used to throw trash from the top of her balcony
The Prophet did not get angry at all. Instead he quietly
cleaned himself up and continued walking towards the
mosque.
One day The Prophet (as) passed by the house expecting
the trash to be thrown at him, but nothing happened He
asked a man standing nearby and asked him where the
old lady was.
The man informed him that she had become ill. Once
again, the Holy Prophet (SAW) looked up at the balcony and
instead of going home, he walked up the stairs.
14. The maid opened the door and let Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
inside. He walked over to where the old lady was laying. The
Prophet greeted the old lady. The old lady responded
fearfully, “I know why you have come here. You have come
to take revenge for the trash that I used to throw on you.”
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) smiled at the old lady and answered
gently, “Dear lady, I have not come here to take revenge or
yell at you. I have come to visit you because you are ill. I
pray for you to get better.”
The old Lady started crying saying:
“Everyday i threw trash on you and in my time of need you
have come ask about me. I testify that you are the true
Prophet of GOD and I become a Muslim”
15. Helping the poor and the orphans

relatives, orphans, and the poor, and speak kindly to
people... - Surah al-Baqarah, 2:83
• So as for the orphan, do not oppress him; and as
for the beggar, do not scold him; and as for your
Lord’s blessing, proclaim it!- Surah ad-Duha 93:9-11
• Have you seen him who denies the Judgement (Day)?
That is the one who drives away the orphan, and
does not urge the feeding of the poor.
• - Surah al-Ma’un, 107:1-3
16. sayings from Prophet Muhammad(as)
• ‘In Paradise there is a place called Dār al-Farh (The Abode of
Joy) – none shall enter it except one who brings joy to the
orphans.’
‘One who takes hold of an orphan to share his food and drink, GOD will definitely admit
him to Paradise unless he commits an unforgivable sin.’
A man complained of being hard-hearted and the Messenger of GOD advised him, ‘Do
you wish to soften your heart and have your wishes granted? Show mercy to the orphan
and pat his head, and feed him from your food (i.e. what you eat). Your heart will soften
and you will obtain your wishes.’
‘I and the guardian of an orphan shall be like ‘this’ in Paradise,
provided he fears GOD, the Mighty and Glorious’ holding up 2 fingers
17. I heard the Messenger of GOD saying: ‘One who supports an
orphan until his needs are met, GOD, the Mighty & Glorious,
makes Paradise) obligatory on him because of that; just like He
makes the Fire obligatory on one who consumes the property
of orphans.’-Imam Ali (As)
Imām Ali (‘a) said, ‘If any believing
man or woman places their hand
on the head of an orphan, out of
mercy for them, GOD would write
for them a good deed for every
hair that their hand passes
through.’
