Why is pharmaceutical compounding
important?
The case: Miguel (3 years old) has a high blood pressure.
The challenge: Miguel weighs 17 kg. The doctor wants to prescribe
8.5 mg atenolol per day. This dosage is commercially unavailable,
he calls the pharmacist to discuss compounding an oral suspension.
The Solution: The pharmacist suggests compounding a suspension
with the Atenolol & SyrSpend® SF PH4 kit. SyrSpend® SF PH4 is
sugar and preservative-free and has excellent taste-masking
properties as well as a sweet, neutral taste.
The Cure: Six months later, Miguel’s blood pressure has improved
and his doctor wants to try to start lowering the dose of atenolol.

Why is pharmaceutical compounding
important?
The case: Eva (2 years) is frequently spitting up and crying after
feeding and her parents notice weight loss. Eva is diagnosed with
gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). To effectively help Eva, her
pediatrician wants to treat Eva with omeprazole.
The challenge: Because of her age, Eva is not able to take the
omeprazole as a tablet or capsule.
The Solution: The Omeprazole & SyrSpend® SF Alka pack has
excellent taste-masking properties and a neutral flavour.
The Cure: Every day her parents give her a fitted dose of the
omeprazole suspension. Dosing and administration are facilitated by
