Feedback from Jobseekers
“Salaries and benefits are changing in relation to oil industry movements, however certain stagnation in rises have
been seen over past several years. Currently, as market is improving, salary and benefits are also going up several
percent. it's always good seeing an increase.”
“Sufficient benefits should be paid because of the risks attached with this profession.”
“Salary should be incorporated with the currency exchange rate. Life insurance & medical benefits are very important
as we’re working in a hazardous environment most of the time as well as frequently travelling internationally.”
“Salary level to be based on experience, knowledge and performance rather than Nationality of employee. Newly
promoted officer with zero experience in rank can earn up to 30% more than one with 10 years’ experience.”
“Pension and Healthcare benefits are most important.”
“A seafarer should be given all the allowance which is essential as for other industries where he is leaving his family
and working in very remote locations at times , hence he should be provided a little more salary compare to others
who work onshore.”
Feedback from Jobseekers
“Higher salaries make happy employees, competency increases, thus avoiding the idea of leaving the company, thus
saving the company a great deal of time and effort to look for and train new employees which will then stay for a
short time only because other companies offer a much bigger compensation.”
“Pay should reflect experience as well as rank.”
“As some of the most highly qualified people on board the ship, Marine officers salary should at least be in line with
the likes of ROV, and Construction personnel. In order to attain the required qualifications takes at least 3-4 years,
before even starting to get a chance of DP time. There are virtually no other positions on board that requires this level
of commitment and length of study in order to start.”
“The Benefits could be more flexible.”
“Salary is important but based on my own present experience the most important thing is to get the chance to move
forward in offshore sector = stable and permanent employment. Nowadays every employer is looking for candidates
with huge experience and in the meantime there are no opportunities to gain it as no appropriate vacancies. In such
situation I have doubts if there is future in marine sector for newcomers.”

  • 18. Feedback from Jobseekers “Salaries and benefits are changing in relation to oil industry movements, however certain stagnation in rises have been seen over past several years. Currently, as market is improving, salary and benefits are also going up several percent. it's always good seeing an increase.” “Sufficient benefits should be paid because of the risks attached with this profession.” “Salary should be incorporated with the currency exchange rate. Life insurance & medical benefits are very important as we’re working in a hazardous environment most of the time as well as frequently travelling internationally.” “Salary level to be based on experience, knowledge and performance rather than Nationality of employee. Newly promoted officer with zero experience in rank can earn up to 30% more than one with 10 years’ experience.” “Pension and Healthcare benefits are most important.” “A seafarer should be given all the allowance which is essential as for other industries where he is leaving his family and working in very remote locations at times , hence he should be provided a little more salary compare to others who work onshore.”
  • 19. Feedback from Jobseekers “Higher salaries make happy employees, competency increases, thus avoiding the idea of leaving the company, thus saving the company a great deal of time and effort to look for and train new employees which will then stay for a short time only because other companies offer a much bigger compensation.” “Pay should reflect experience as well as rank.” “As some of the most highly qualified people on board the ship, Marine officers salary should at least be in line with the likes of ROV, and Construction personnel. In order to attain the required qualifications takes at least 3-4 years, before even starting to get a chance of DP time. There are virtually no other positions on board that requires this level of commitment and length of study in order to start.” “The Benefits could be more flexible.” “Salary is important but based on my own present experience the most important thing is to get the chance to move forward in offshore sector = stable and permanent employment. Nowadays every employer is looking for candidates with huge experience and in the meantime there are no opportunities to gain it as no appropriate vacancies. In such situation I have doubts if there is future in marine sector for newcomers.”
