everyday life in the past – could
you always flush a toilet? When
things were invented? Would you
be able to survive without the
modern appliances we have
today? Wastefulness - in past
versus now.
Art and Design for these weeks

Can you invent something use
inspiration from the past,
present or future that will help
future civilisations. This will
include group work planning and
designing 1 product, making the
product and then presenting it.

and Future
9. LO: To be able to design a product using recyclable
material.
Introduction: 5/10mins (carpet whole class)
Recap over the science museum trip (inspiration) – do a
mind map of children’s ideas about inventions that they
saw. Then give children box of recycled materials that they
can use and tell them to make a brainstorm of their
inventions in relation to their materials.
Main Activity: 30 minutes
Get children to start designing their product on paper –
ensure that each child has a role in the group.
Plenary:
Get a child from each group to summarize their idea so far
and how they attempt to make it. Explain what they think
will be challenging about making their invention and how
they will deal with it.
