Interview
1. Interview with a
graduate student who
has just completed her
forth year and is looking
for a job after her
internship
2. SAY
I’m an electronics and communication student who is currently looking
for a job after my internship gets over.
I want to pursue a job right now. No, I have not thought about studying
further in any field whatsoever.
I have tried to apply for a job from my college and also checked sites on
the internet regarding the same .
My classmates with a CGPA of 6/7 have got a job from the college but
even after having a CGPA of 9.4 I’m unable to do so .
Both my internships were in the instrumentation sector so now people
tell me that my field is instrumentation and not my branch and I should
pursue my career in it
I’m not really sure what I want to do and thus I am trying to find the
requirements of different fields for job.
I’m also looking for a job in the company that I recently interned for.
I thought my interviews went well (till the GD or interview) but I was not
selected.
I don’t think they see qualifications over your work experience and the
quality of the work you have done in the past also matters.
I’m not sure whether my CVs fail to impress them or is it some other
reason
3. SAY
Maybe contacts also matter in the industry
I've only applied in the place where I live for a job or around it .
Interviews of different companies varied from taking aptitude
test, checking technical knowledge, creativity , and ability to handle
the task at hand .
I am not sure if my college has been able to teach me the skills
required to adapt to this ever changing industry .
I myself should have applied more time and energy in learning
about the company I wanted to work for or have at least discovered
my area of interest .
I don’t know if I feel ready enough to handle an actual job.
4. DO
Consults internet for finding herself a job or tries to find a job
through college.
Currently she is finishing her internship.
Talking to people to find about different areas in which she can
work and checking what she need to do for it or if she is already
qualified for the job
She is submitting her CV in different companies and giving
interviews.
Studying for aptitude test and technical knowledge for the
interviews
Taking advice from friends and family and looking for support.
Looking to do things to enhance her CV
5. THINK
She thinks there should have been more industrial exposure
from her college .
It would have been better if her internships actually taught
her a lot rather than a little about the industry as her mentor
thought she was too young and inexperienced for giving her
very important work.
she would have liked to develop more soft skills and given
thought to what she really liked.
There is no specific set of skills needed ,it totally depends
upon the job they were hiring .
You need connections
Lucks plays a huge role.
6. FEEL
Confused about what to do in life
Insecure that people with lesser CGPA got a job and she
couldn't.
Is unsure if she used the chance to discover herself and her
interests in college properly.
Felt no reservations in discussing her situation.
Open to advice of others.
Discouraged about not being able to find a job.
Fear of not getting a good job.
Feels that it would have been better if she could have got an
internship in her subject.
Connections are very important .
For personality is probably is the first thing a company judges
you by.
7. INSIGHTS
A. Students don’t necessarily gain the skills from college about what a companies
needs from an employee.
B. There are not enough internships offered in the background of one’s major.
C. Contacts play an important role in which job and internship one would land with.
D. Colleges should teach about the importance of soft skills and emphasis should be
laid on the ever changing market scenario and the need to adapt with it.
E. Students don’t necessarily choose the major according to the job prospective.
Moreover the need of the market may change by the time the student
graduates.
F. Students are not taught to experiment in their lives. They have no idea how and
when to take calculated risks.
G. Students think education is enough to land them with a job but its not true.
Employers check whether your personality fits the bill of the job.
H. To be applicable for any company extra courses that are not covered in the
school curriculum are need, for which money is required. This may cause
financial difficulties.
