PTFE seats and encapsulated discs are molded from pure virgin PTFE material
(thickness 3mm) providing optimum protection against permeation of the line media
and excellent corrosion resistance.

Figure 07. BFV-74T3 Cross-sectional
DISC:
The PTFE lining disc has 3 mm minimum
thickness of pure, virgin PTFE encapsulated
over Stainless Steel.
SEAT DESIGN:
The seat design reduces seating unseating
torque-and minimizes wear on the contacting
parts. Curvatures machined into the inner
seat area minimize contact forces between
the disc and seat as the disc approaches, or
opens from, the closed position. This unique
seat geometry permits lower torques and
reduces seat wear.
FLANGE LOCATING HOLES:
Locating holes in the wafer version provide
quick and precise alignment during valve
installation eliminating disc interference with
adjacent pipe I.D.
BODY:
2-pc wafer design or lug style; epoxy coated.
NECK:
An extended neck design in all valve sizes
allows 2” of piping insulation and provides
easy access for mounting actuators.
TOP STEM BUSHING:
A top stem bushing, retained by a stainless steel
ring, is provided to absorb actuator side thrusts
and is acetal as standard or PTFE as an option.
The bushing assures the correct interaction
between the upper shaft and the lower shaft
while ensures the smooth running of the shaft.
SEAL CAPSULE(SECONDARY SEAL):
This seal capsule fully isolates the valve body and
stem from the line media. The Seal Capsule is made
of a virgin PTFE enclosing the internal energizer.
The capsule fits into grooves machined in the upper
and lower disc hubs. When compressed between the
disc and seat during assembly, the capsule becomes
energized, exerting both upward and downward
pressure on disc and seat surfaces.
PRIMARY SEAL:
The primary seal is achieved by an interference fit
between the extra wide disc hubs and contoured seat.
Disc spring, two sets for a group, is a state of
compressive deformation in the body. It will impose
elastic force on the press sleeve, compact the O-ring
and seat, improve axial sealing, then provided the
bearing stress for the seat and disc, to cover the
shortage of elasticity about PTFE seat.

around the seat, including the disc hub; and
provides uniform force sufficient for bubble
tight shut off.

STEP 01
CLEAN FACES!
Must make sure the pipe flange faces
are clean. Any foreign material such
as scars, welding slag, metal chips,
etc., can damage the seat or disc
and make disc blocked.
www.terofox.com27 28
Figure 11. Disc Position
Figure 10. Flanges Distance
Figure 12. Bolts Tighten Sequence
STEP 02
LEAVE ENOUGH SPACE!
Leave a space between flanges so that
valve can be easily inserted or removed,
and avoiding damaging the seat.
STEP 03
OPEN COMPLETELY!
Place the valve between the flanges and
center it, and then span the valve body
with all flange bolts, but do not tighten
the bolts. Carefully open the disc to the
full open position, making sure the disc
does not hit the pipe.
Assembling the butterfly vales in closed
position would deform the seat.
STEP 04
TIGHTEN BOLTS EQUALLY!
Tighten bolts gradually till flanges are in
contact with valve body, and must tighten
equally in sequence as Figure 21.
Installation & Maintenance
Terofox butterfly valves allow installation at any angle on the pipeline.
Installation Precaution
1.The valve shall be installed in proper position to ensure convenient operation, maintenance, and
replacement
2.In case of negligence in medium flow direction in pipe line, valve design allows installation in
double way.
3.Before/OFF installation, the butterfly valve should be stored in warehouse. Proper storage prevents
the valve from moisture while stored; the disc is suggested to be kept open at an angle of 15 degree.
4.Prior to installation, the following processes should be completed:
(1)Pay extra attention to check if the valve operation condition is in line with the technical
specification and requirements.
(2)Clean the disc sealing area and body sealing thoroughly. Disc should remain closed before
cleaning.
(3)Make sure the handle is firmly connected to the flange and stem.
5.As mounting the butterfly valve on pipeline, the load for tightening connection bolts should be
uniformed.
6.After installation, the disc must be opened in the case of the in-line strength pressure test being
carried out.
7.After commissioning, the valve should be examined regularly. Suggested regular checkups:
(1)Whether the valve seat and ‘O’ sealing ring have been damaged.
(2)Check the sealing effects of the disc sealing area.
(3)After the valve was examined and assembled, no scuffing happens at the time of on-off rotation.
(4)After the valve was examined and assembled, the sealing test should be carried out as the
introduction.
(5)After each examination, detailed records should be filed for future reference.

Figure 13. Incorrectiy Welding
Figure 15. Flange Rating
NOTE
WELDING BEFORE INSTALLED!
Do not weld flanges near by the installed
butterfly valve, so that must weld the pipe
before installation or remove the valve
before welding. Lastly must clean carefully
the welding slag to avoid damaging the
seat.
NOTE
DO NOT USE GASKETS!
The installation of a gasket between the
flange and the sleeve results in an
excessive deformation of the latter; this
has the effect of preventing the closure
of the disc, or block if it is already in the
closed position.
NOTE
DO NOT USE UNSUITABLE FLANGES!
The installation of unsuitable flanges
would jam the disc or create turbulences
in the pipe.

Figure 17. Without Flange in the End Figure 18. With A Flange in the End
NOTE
HORIZONTAL AXIS INSTALLATION!
It would be better to install big size
butterfly valve with the stem horizontally.
In case of used in services with powders
or muddy fluids, valve must be installed
with the stem in horizontal position to
allow sediments to flow easily at opening.
NOTE
END PIPING INSTALLATION !
When valve installed at the end of piping:
Normally for
Dovetailseat type
and Vulcanized
seat type, we can
installing without
end flange.
Installing with a
blind flange in the
end to secure
tightness at max
pressure ( 16 bar )
and all types
butterfly valves.
Vertical axis installing
for general installation.
Horizontal axis installing
for particular fluids or
big size valves.

1. Before the maintenance, always advise the maintenance personnel that the proper eye, head and whole
body protection always be utilized.
2. Before the maintenance, always make sure the pressure is released safely by partly opening the valve.
3. Prior to the maintenance, flush the butterfly valves and the pipe lines attached and make sure that no
(dangerous) residues are left.
4. Ensure that the installation, together with pressure containing parts in depressurized and secured.
5. It is impossible to predict the frequency of the maintenance interval. The maintenance interval is dependent
upon several factors which are not foreseeable by the manufacturer.
6. Operate the valve from fully open to fully close to assure its operation. Or always check the direction mark
on the lever or gear box operation.
7. Check flange bolting for any evidence of loose and make adjustment if necessary.
8. Inspect the valve and the surrounding area for previous or existing leakage at flange faces or shaft
connections.
9. Check piping and/or wiring to actuators and related equipment for looseness and correct as needed.
The following periodic preventative maintenance practices are recommended
for all center line butterfly valves.

Check whether the seats are damaged.
Find if the stem O-rings are damaged.
Check whether any deviation between the valve and the pipe flange.
Check whether the disc can open and close fully.
Check whether the operator and the disc act synchronously.
If you suspect any damage to disc or seat, disassemble the valve. Visually
check disc and seat for damages, and replace them if any damage is found.
Check the air pressure supplied to the valve and the condition of the filter regulator.
Check the operations of accessories such as solenoid valve and air operated valve.
Disassemble the valve and check whether there are any foreign obstructions in disc
and seat.
Check the design temperature and actual line temperature.
Remove the actuator and try to operate the actuator only.
Check the air pressure supplied to the valve.
Check the voltage of the solenoid valve.
Apply the correct air pressure to the actuator to see whether it works properly or
leaks. (If it leaks, fasten the cylinder cover bolts.)
Disassemble the valve and check whether there are any foreign obstructions,
and remove them if found.
Clean and grease actuator if actuator parts are corroded.
Check whether there are any foreign obstruction in the upstream pipe.
Check whether the valve operates with the maximum stroke.
