2. What is Malaria?
• It is a kind of,
• Fever with or without chills.
• Fever comes in alternate days,
• Then it is called Suspected Malaria.
• Caused by the plasmodium parasite enter
body by bite of Female Mosquito Anopheles.

4. Symptoms of Malaria?
• 1st sign & symptom of Malaria:
• Suddenly excessive shivering occur
• Chills usually happen
• High fever above 103F.
• Excessive sweating after 2-3 hours & then
temperature turns to normal and it mostly
happen at night on alternate days.
• Dry Cough
5. Later Symptoms of Malaria
• Headache
• Muscular Fatigue and pain
• Back pain
• Spleen Enlarge
• Nausea & Vomiting

7. Plasmodium falciparum Malaria
Symptoms
• also called Cerebral or Brain malaria.
• In this condition patient start to show severe
neurological complication and therefore also
have certain epileptic attacks.
• Also has systemic fever occur.

9. Cause of Malaria?
• Malaria is of different kinds and each type is
caused by the different type of Plasmodium
parasite. i.e
• 1. P. Vivax
• 2. P. falciparum
• 3. P. Malariae
• 4. P. Ovale

11. Diagnosis of Malaria
• Malaria can be diagnose by several test i.e,
• 1. Peripheral Blood smear test
• 2. Rapid malaria kit test
Physical Examination:
• Patient liver & spleen size enlarge during
examination
• Patient is also anemic if malaria is not treated
for long time.
12. • Suspected malaria confirm by Lab test:
• Rapid malaria kit test is mostly use b/c it give
result in 20mins to diagnose whether it is,
• 1. Plasmodium vivax
• 2. plasmodium falciparum OR
• 3. Mix malaria

14. Treatment of Malaria
• Plasmodium treatment depend upon the fact
that patient have which type of plasmodium.
P.vivax & P.falciparum is in India, pakistan and
Bangladesh
• While
• P.Malaria & P.Ovale is mostly in other
countries.
15. Malaria Types
on basis of Symptoms
• 1. Uncomplicated Malaria:
• Moderate symptoms
• 2. Complicated (Severe) Malaria:
• Severe symptoms
17. • Do not give Chloroquine tab in case of
P.falciparum malaria because they are resistant
to Chloroquine.
• And
• Do Not give primaquine in
• Infants
• Pregnant females and
• G6PD deficiency disorder patients (anemic
symptom).

20. Other symptomatic treatment
• If you have Fever:
• Paracetamol 500mg after breakfast , lunch and dinner
for about 3- 4 days.
• To treat Vomiting and Nausea:
• Domperidone 10mg (motilium) + pantoprazol 40mg
with empty stomach daily one time in 24hrs for about 7- 10
days.
• If Nausea and Vomiting not treat from above medicine then
take.
• Ondensetron 2mg/1ml IV or IM
when vomiting or nausea (Onden inj)

22. Plasmodium Falciparum Treatment
• Arceva tab oral:
• It contains (Artemether 80mg and Lumefantrine 480mg)
• 1st Day:
• 1st Dose: Take 1 Tab orally in the morning during breakfast
with milk.
• 2nd Dose: After 1st Dose take other 1 tab after 8 hours with
milk.
• 2nd Day:
• Then next 1-1 tab two times a day up to 2 days.
• Primaquine tab 0.75mg/kg orally as single dose.
• Take this tablet with Milk b/c patient do vomit if take with
water in 80- 90% cases.

25. If Arceva Tab is not available
• Then take Fansidar in place of Arceva tab.
• Malarest OR Fansidar:
• Sulphadoxine 500mg and Pyrimethamine 25mg (3
tabs) 20 : 1)
• If patient is Above 18 years then, Dose for Malaria:
{Sulphadoxine 500mg and Pyrimethamine 25mg(3
tabs)} Take 3 tabs in one day at same time.
• Also take,
• Artisunate tab 100mg once time in a day,
up to 3 days with it.
30. Plasmodium vivax During pregnancy
• Then Chloroquine (Rosechin) is safe in all
trimesters But,
• Primaquine is not safe so patient have to
complete this course after pregnancy and
• Must take Primaquine 0.25mg/kg orally up to
14days to complete eradicate the malaria.
31. Plasmodium falciparum During
pregnancy
• If patient is in 1st trimester then can be given
quinine tablet but
• if patient in 2nd or 3rd trimester then can be
given
• Artisunate and combination of
• Sulphadoxine and pyrimethamine tab
(Fansidar) orally.

33. Mix Malaria patient
• In case of Mix malaria,
• 1st treat Plasmodium falsicaprum malaria
and then
• Treat Plasmodium vivax Malaria with
• Primaquine 0.25mg/kg
for 14days
34. Remember this
• In case of P.Vivax Malaria
• Dose of Primaquine is 0.25mg/kg for 14days.
• And
• In case of P.falciparum Malaria
• Dose of Primaquine is 0.75mg/kg orally as
single dose at 2nd day of treatment.
