Karunya Rasa came to Krsna consciousness in 1976 in Chicago and began raising her two children in Krsna consciousness. Her youngest child, Vyasadeva grew up for a time in the temple community in Evanston, Illinois, then went on to be educated in the many US Gurukulas at the time including Murari Sevaka, New Dvaraka, New Vrndavan and Lake Huntington. At the age of 11 he was sent to the Vrndavan Gurukula in India where he studied for a year. He was later transferred to the Mayapura Gurukula, then under the direction of "Gurukula Maharaja", and remained there for the following 15 years. In addition to secular studies he learned to read and write Sanskrit, became fluent in Bengali and completed
